Amazing food.. I think this is the best I’ve ver had in Adelaide!! I was on the edge of thinking there aren’t good restaurants in Adelaide. I actually had as room service at the Mayfair hotel, but the food quality was amazing, good portion and it was really tasty!! I’m happy that I was lazy to go out🤣 The ocean trout was cook just perfectly. Beautiful crisp skin and so pink and juicy inside the meat. Chips were tasty and crunchy. Salad was referencing. But the presentation was a bit.. maybe it looks different if it weren’t for room service .
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could book a table on the day of (the last time I tried to book a table for a Saturday a week out and they were all booked out). Although it being a Wednesday night might have made a difference.
We ordered the salmon rose, steak tartae, the snails, the mushroom pastry and the charcuterie board. Every single one of those items was a ten out of ten. Everything had intense flavours and the food just melted in your mouth. The charcuterie board probably could have been improved by substituting the sour dough bread out for biscuits instead.
For mains we got the steak on a bone, the lobster bisque (the whole lobster grilled was sold out unfortunately) the salmon pie special and a crab pasta.
While delicious, the mains weren't as fantastic as the entrees. The pasta in my crab pasta was a tiny bit overcooked while the salmon pie was a little dry.
The dessert cart was very special. There were so many choices. I got myself the panacotta, while others on my table got the swan choux pastry, fruit salad and some sort of chocolate dessert. All very delicious and again, ten out of tens.
Overall a great night and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back.
Also, it's not often I'm impressed by toilets, but the toilets here were clean and very impressive.
We dined here for dinner on sat night. We were running late, and informed the staff of our arrival time of 830. We were told 845 was the last sitting, and kitchen was open to 9. We were staying in the hotel and attended the restaurant reception at 836. After standing there for a few mins we were sat down. We were told we could no longer order entrees and we could only order mains due to the kitchen closing? As I write this I still don’t understand. So if I wanted the cold Caesar salad I would not be allowed it? We ordered the lamb Wellington and chicken cordon Bleu. Both were generous sized. Perfectly cooked and served with delicious sauces. We were also given a free piece of Sacher torte as it was my birthday, complete with candle which was special. Prices are standard approx $36, but on generous size. The restaurant, is in the basement, with lovely decor, comfortable bench seating with lovely cushions, and if you are seating the right way you see into the wine room. There is a dessert trolley, which is not my cup of tea, but it is in keeping with the old building, white table cloths and traditional food. Service was a tiny bit lacking. Our water glasses were not refilled once, and were empty by dessert. The couple behind us had their finished plates sitting with them for over 20 mins. Overall it was a pleasant experience with tasty food.
Loved it here!!! The food was amazing and my favourite part was when they brought around the huge selection of desserts in a cart. The atmosphere is relaxing and be sure to check out the Hennessy Bar on the top floor. Also the pastry pic is the lobster soup! So yummy!
Absolutely amazing. Best French food I've had in years. The service was amazing. Reminds me of food when I was an apprentice. Thank you so much
I was lucky enough to go to the Mayflower for dinner on New Year's Eve. The menu was a set menu with a cocktail upon arrival and smoked salmon hors d'oeuvres. There was a choice for entree and main and a selection of desserts available. We were promptly seated and our order for our cocktail was taken but we then unfortunately had to wait for over 1/2 an hour until we informed one of the wait staff that we had been seated but no one had taken our food orders or further drink orders, nor had we received a wine list. We knew they had forgotten about us as tables that arrived later had their orders taken and had received food and drinks. Our wine order was taken as was our food order but we again had to wait again until we actually received any wine or food. The supervisor then arrived with our entree and she seemed to pick up that we were a little disappointed with the start to the night. She ensured that things were no longer overlooked for the rest of the night.
I ordered the oysters with a champagne vinigarette which were fresh and creamy and just delicious. My husband ordered the vol au vent with chicken, pea fricassee, abalone mushroom and leek. It was so tasty and was a generous portion size. The pastry was so flaky and crisp and buttery.
For main we both ordered the fillet mignon which was served on a bed of mash with roast carrot and bernaise sauce. We were also given to share triple cooked hand cut chips and an apple and slaw salad. The main was so delicious, perfectly cooked and very tasty. We were so full we needed to have a break between main and dessert.
The dessert options were something dreams are made of. If you haven't been before they have a dessert trolley where you can select the dessert of your choice from a selection of about 8 different options. I had the religieuse which is their specialty and came recommended. A definite hit for the chocolate fan. My husband had the orange and almond cake but her was so full he had a couple of bites and couldn't eat any more.
All in all it was a lovely experience but we would have appreciated slightly prompter service upon arrival. We can't fault the food and think that when we go back next time it will be less hectic for the wait staff so service will be faultless. I have to go back, how can I resist that dessert trolley!
There is nothing I can say about Bethany Finn's latest venture that adequately describes how beautiful this place and her food is.
The restaurant is opulent and comfortable. The service slick and perfect.
The food to die for.
I love steak tartare and it didn't disappoint.
Go there for a special birthday or anniversary or just because you want to be looked after by the best in the business.

Call me old fashioned, call me fancy... but I (Amanda) enjoy partaking in an afternoon of high tea as a lovely way to spend time with my girlfriends. After visiting Sean's Kitchen for high tea (review here), the Mayflower was next on my list to try. I was even a little more excited than usual as I had previously dined at the Mayflower for their first birthday celebrations (review here) and knew of the quality and elegance I was in for.
Incredible quality. Well balanced flavours, very well thought out textures and what a dream of a setting. The chairs are lush, and comfort is always key when you're in for a long and enjoyable dinner.
I started with the seafood bouillabaisse. Seriously gentle saffron flavour, seafood only just just cooked so very tender. Served with a pastry hat it was almost a bit 80s. The pastry was buttery and brown though hadn't puffed to full effect, and a little soggy in part. If I had to eat it every single day of my life though I wouldn't complain. Absolutely delicious.
I followed with the prawn, basil and tomato pasta. They were Asian noodles rather than Italian pasta, but that's not a complaint. I cannot fault this dish. Absolutely incredible.
The rest of the party were also blown away by entrees and mains, and desserts- I couldn't fit any in but the dessert trolley is an absolute spectacle.
The asparagus side is also well worth it. Buttery and covered in slivered almonds it was a meal in itself.
5 star food and service experience! I started with some fresh bread which had clearly been baked that day and was delicious. For entree I had a classic seafood cocktail. The waitress explained that the chef's was inspired by the 80's with this dish. Well, I remember it from the 70's and it consisted of many tiny prawns arranged around the edge of a stainless steel bowl filled with shredded iceberg lettuce and served with a delicious cocktail sauce. The only difference with the Mayflower's version was that they were large, plump prawns and there was only three of them. It was delicious but over fairly quickly.
For mains I ordered the ricotta gnocchi with peas, fava beans, goats' curd and pea tendrils. This was a delicious meal. The flavours were gentle and the gnocchi was light - nothing like the heavier potato version.
Unable to squeeze in dessert I sipped on some wine before heading off very satisfied.
My mum and I had breakfast this morning here as part of our overnight stay at the Mayfair. Very posh looking inside with lovely decor. The breakfast was buffet style and the food I chose was delightful, very tasty. Lovely place to eat.
We sat in the casual area of ‘The Den’ for coffee and delicious sweet treats. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The piano music playing in the background was lovely.
Excellent dining experience here. Foods are so yummy, seafood platter so fresh. Hi I love the Beef Wellington and traditional garlic bread. Atmosphere and service was perfect too.
We had high tea for Mum's birthday here and we couldn't fault it. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was beautiful. It was really good value for money, too, especially considering others we've tried. The staff even gave Mum an extra sweet with a happy birthday message which was a nice thoughtful touch, she was delighted. Will definitely be back.
A high tea for something different. Highly recommend. With a glass of bubbly to start and so many yummy treats both sweet and savoury. Top class service.
Its certainly not cheap but everything was top class. The ambience was excellent, food very good to excellent and wines were great. Our waiter was a bit of a character but made the night all the more enjoyable. Not a fan of the booking process through Fork
We went to High Tea at the Mayflower Hotel yesterday and it was perfect in every way.
The room is beautifully set out with plenty of space between booths and tables.
Upon arrival we were escorted to our table. We had table water and then of glass of Mumm Champagne.
The food was delicious and there was a good balance of savoury and sweet food. We both loved the sausage rolls, as well as the corn beef and poached chicken sandwiches. My wife loved the chocolate cake with Passionfruit fruit icing, macrons and the chocolate dipped strawberries.
The tea was served in a beautiful china teapot and a lovely cup and saucer.
The service was excellent. Our person explained the food and was very attentive and efficient.
My wife had such a lovely time that she indulged in another glass of Mumm as well as coffee!
High tea was recommended to us and it certainly did not disappoint in anyway, we loved every minute !
