Review Tony Tomatoes - Adelaide

Alex Lefevre
Great vibe. Fantastic for pizza. And priced well. Would say the pasta and parmi etc are good but not fantastic. But the pizza is fantastic. Can be a little slow. And allergy wasn't clear had to ask a few times each different answer. Overall I'd recommend!

Ordered the rib ravioli which cost $25.90 and only received 12 pieces of ravioli with very little sauce. When questioned they said that’s how it is . because ravioli has meat in it.Very little flavour Never in my life have a had an Italian meal and left hungry Pizza was sloppy with wet dough and falling apart. First and last time there.

Pretty good experience all round, pizzas are tasty and good sizing. I can recommend to try a starter too! Service is pretty good & indoor setting is nice. Drinks are on the expensive side but overall walked away pretty happy with a good feed with good people.

I took my mum there for a dinner on Sunday and I couldn't fault it if I tried. They followed our seating requests to accommodate her disability and were nice enough to accommodate a small change to a cocktail ingredient to suit my preference. The staff were absolutely lovely and tentative. The food was absolutely amazing, honestly I couldn't fault it. Definitely recommend the chocolate fondant dessert, it was to die for!

Lively vibe and can get quite busy during peak hours. The pizzas are typical Italian style, thin and soft dough with just enough toppings. The truffle pizza was the best one. Was recommended to try beef cheeks next time. Pasta was so soft and very skillfully hand made. Gnocchi was tasty. Ravioli sauce was bit too sour. Dessert was delicious. The chocolate felt like it was molten lava, so smooth and creamy and rich in flavour, great for chocolate lovers. Doughnut was crunchy with some custard on top.

I like the resotto ball, margarita pizza, and the pink mojito. It's delicious. The chicken parmigiana for me too much tomatoes 😅 as I like a more cheesy chicken parmigiana with less tomato. So it's a matter of personal preferences. In general, you should try this.

The entre prosciutto platter was nice specially with the bread they served it with. And the olives they give you once you sit down are so fresh and refreshing. Margarita pizza was delish as well. The ravioli average. It would be great if they had a greater range of pasta. Only four pastas on an italian restaurant menu is weird.

Ordered 4 pizzas take away, they were all ready in time for pick up (frustrating when arriving at places for pick up and they haven’t started making it yet…) and overall a good meal shared by all.

I had heard great things about this place only to be utterly disappointed. The staff are super nice but there’s no menu and they refuse to tell you the price of anything or the options. You end up being forced to order the sharing plate and the dessert dish as well. At the time my partner and I were vegetarian so we asked for no meat - they however, didn’t accommodate the size of the veggie portion to match no longer having meat on the platter. The sweet bread dessert is really quite horrible, suitable only for a 6yr olds tastebuds. At the end of the meal we left hungry and disappointed and a lot poorer. If I’m paying that kind of money I would expect a drink and a choice. Never coming back.

Service and atmosphere was good. I arrived with friends and we immediately felt welcomed. Waiter assisted with any menu questions. Order did not take too long to come out. Food was outstanding! Definitely satisfied the taste buds. Thank you for a great experience. Will recommend others to try!

Great busy atmosphere, especially for a Sunday night however the food and service was lacking. Our Mr Pig pizza was delicious however that’s where the good food stopped for us. The Eggplant Parmigiana was very disappointing and probably the worst I’ve ever had. Not baked, under seasoned and just eggplant piled on a plate with some melted mozzarella and covered in a tasteless Napoli sauce. The whole dish was barely warm. The Veal & Pork Rib Ravioli was firstly only a tiny serve, entree at best, and generally tasteless. The ravioli could have been filled with anything. Serving staff weren’t particularly friendly nor did they seem to know what was going on. We’d go back for a quick pizza in the future but nothing more.

Honest review here.
Firstly, great atmosphere, decor, location. Really busy Saturday night dinner. Felt great. That's about all the praise I can give this place.
When your 14 year old son who lives, breathes, sleeps Pizza says he's had better frozen pizza - it's not good. I think its a slight exaggeration.
The drinks - very watered down - which you get with most other trendy joints as well, but I thought this would rise above that. Not to be. So if you're ordering cocktails - they will taste just like lemonade or whatever the mixer is.
Entree's - probably the only decent feed we had. The calamari fritti was nice, not anything special, just your stock standard fried squid. Same with the salad.
Now the mains. My sons ravioli - I counted 12 of them. Now i understand they are handmade and they tasted fabulous - but don't call it a main when you can probably have 5 plates of them. He ended up eating that in one minute flat, plus the balance of our 2 pizzas.
Now the pizzas. We paid $30 each for these, and for a normal hungry bloke you'd need 2. Probably 3 if you were really hungry. Firstly, my wife's pepperoni - the only thing we could taste on it was the pepperoni. We've had better Domino's pizza. Then my Gambereti. BIG LET DOWN. You know it's CRAP when they put those shredded pieces of prawn SPARSELY on the pizza. Honestly, ANY CAFE PIZZA does better. The dough was dry, the zucchinin strips on it were almost dried up completely, and maybe the kitchen ran out of things like ginger, basil, oregano or other spices like that.
All in all, $165 for 2 pizzas, 4 drinks, a ravioli main, an entree and a salad - and we're now at home HEATING UP LAST NIGHT'S LEFTOVERS lol.
Finally- I only went here based on a mate's recommendation. He went last week and said it was awesome. What the??? I will be telling him he was dreaming.

Waiter spilt entire jug of water on our table, said all good and walked away. Didn’t even offer to clean it up then a different waiter dropped off a handful of napkins and made us clean it ourselves.

All round family confirmation- best pizza (gluten free and normal) pizza we have ever had! Yummy! Thank you.

The pizza was absolutely divine and the toppings were great, the Eat my breast pizza has to be my favorite with the beautiful pesto and the succulent chicken i would 100% go back there! :)

We have been coming here several times now for their pizza which we thought were tasty. Wish they could put more toppings on their pizza. The ambience was nice and staff were friendly as well.

Pizza pizza pizza it’s a lotsa lotsa fun! Tony Tomatoes is a restaurant you can go to with anyone from your grandma to your coworkers and still have a good time. The menu ranges from tried and true Italian to more funky-town flavours that all just work. It is always busy here so book ahead!
Marianna Tuccia
I always rate a pizza by the crust and the pizza that I ordered had a good crust. I would like to go back and try some of the other food on the menu. #pizzeria #pizzatime #adelaideeats #prawnpizza

What's there not to like about tony tomatoes?

Ambience:
A romantic-esque and always busy environment. Staff are always on their feet and the kitchen and bar are never left to rest. Make sure to book in advanced because this place is always booked out. It's a great place to go for dinner with friends and family and does well with small to big groups.

Food:
Favourite pizza in Adelaide. Nothing beats the homemade fresh dough that tony tomato delivers. I'm normally a deep crust kinda girl but here at Tony's it's a big thin slightly toasty and a nice chew to the dough. The crust isn't heavy as it's very airy but filling. Top three choices would be the veg patch for a great vego option, fun guy for mushroom lovers, and prosciutto for that protein pack. The simpler the better as you get to taste all the different bold flavours that come together to make a pizza at Tony's. If you're not feeling pizza (oddly at a pizza place - but each to their own hehe) the zucchini e calamari fritti is a must recommend. Never would I think to try zucchini fries but this dish will revolutionise everything.

Service:
Staff on most basis are quit friendly. Under the pressure they can sometimes forget simple things but they go above and beyond to deliver the service you deserve and always tend to their tables to make sure that everyone is happy.

Overall a great place for good quality authentic pizza and is perfect for big groups or small intimate outings.
Alexandra Matterson
Best food in Adelaide; which is a big call as everything in Adelaide is perfect. Eaten here 3 out of the four last nights we’ve been in Adelaide.
Global Gastronomista
Had takeaway pizza from here. It was so good, took my wife here for a date night before a fringe show. The pizza is amazing. We have had Mr Pig, Tony Pepperoni, Marghareta and the Salame pizza. All amazing but the Mr Pig was the stand out for us. The Arancini balls are a great way to start we had both the raddish and asparagus ones both were delicious. Make sure you fit in a Aperol Spritz at the start or the middle or even at the end!

Tony and tomatoes... can it get any more Italian? Let me tell you a short story... The first time I went I thought I'd never go back - yes I had a bad experience. But then I was convinced otherwise by a friend the second time around... and WOWEE let me tell you, my taste buds were blown away by the Tony Pepperoni (add anchovies please), Contadino (truffle or nothing) AND last but definitely not least *DRUM ROLL PLEASE* the beloved Nerina (who knew charcoal pizza tasted so good to the point I could cry tears of happiness - seriously get this one). The base which is thin but not too thin, gets a big fat tick - not one that makes you feel severely heavy and comatose, toppings just complement and the service puts the icing on the cake! Need I say more? Pick up the phone, hit up the digits and make a booking - you'll be in for a great time!

Food 4/5
Service 4/5
Serving size (of pizza) 5/5
Atmosphere 5/5

Ps, don't forget to ask and/or say YES to the chilli oil.. put those little chillies sparingly on your pizza with a few drops of oil here and there. Thank me later!
Asha
Perfect place for dining if you have a group of friends and want somewhere casual for dinner. . Yummy pizzas for sure ! They can get quite busy so booking is recommend
James Warner
Went there for the first time Friday night and let me tell you they delivered. Both pizzas tasted amazing. The fact that you can see the pizzas being made from scratch just shows how much care and thought is put in to each pizza. The only downside is that they don't do garlic bread. Apart from that, I would definitely go again
Evil
Very good authentic fare, flavours are varied and subtle , light crispy pizzas def not stodgy. Spelt salad was great also Attentive service as well.
Would recommend.

Busy setting. Service was delightful. Food came out promptly and the pizza was good. Passatta was lacking a tomato punch. House wines were very good.

The staff were very kind and gave great service with attention to detail. The pizzas were amazing!!!!! I have never had such a light and fluffy gluten free pizza. It was so delicious. The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend going. But do book before like we did as such a great place gets busy quickly! A beautiful place to eat in Adelaide and yes we will be back!
SmolGal
Great pizza that caters for all
I screwed up my booking and they still accommodated me for a table of 8, the staff are seriously so lovely!
Pizza is delicious and caters for all diets, gluten free, vego, vegan, Jewish!
So lovely
Stella
Great atmosphere and even better food. The pizzas are authentic Italian with gourmet toppings and amazing flavours, I'm really fussy about pizza bases and Tony Tomatoes do them perfectly! The service is attentive and friendly and they are willing to change dishes at your request. Definitely my fave pizza place now. Only down side were the desserts but that's not why you go there.

I’m married to an Italian. I eat regularly in Melbourne at 400 Gradi, D.O.C, Kaprika and La Teatro. The pizza at Tony Tomatoes’ is just as good. Thin, crispy crust; just the right amount of topping; buffalo mozzarella; perfect sugo. The affogato was nice too, but not to the same standard: too much ice cream and not straight vanilla.
Andrew Potaczek
Amazing pizza! Full and flavour and not heavy on topping very traditional how i like it. Had 3 pizzas. Pasta. Rice balls and veg. Recommend all of it. Service and staff were nice to also waiting time wasnt not bad even being busy. We were lucky to get in without a booking. Best pizza ive had in a long time.

Paid $47.90 for 2 margarita pizzas, one without sauce (due to an allergy) and one with vegan cheese. The pizzas had barely a scatter of cheese and 3 basil leaves on each, that's it. The taste of what was there was below average. Rip off is an understatement. Go to Aussie pizza house instead.
Jane
I love Tony Tomatoes ..... go regularly as a local and it is consistently good food and great friendly service. Great pizzas , pasta, salad , wine list ...all presented by happy smiling staff that aren't precious.. what more could you want from a trattoria.

Best affogato I have ever had! It's a given that the pizzas are amazing here. Crispy thin bases topped with fresh quality ingredients. We tried the fun guy, tony 3 times and eat my breast and all were delicious!! I really enjoyed the combo of the warm pizza topped with the fresh salad, yumm....We tried the wholemeal base and it was really nice, super crunchy! It is always a pain parking in Nth Adelaide but Tony Tomatoes is totally worth it!
Karylle
One of my favourite pizza places! Tony Tomatoes offers great and interesting flavour combinations with the perfect amount of toppings - my favourites are the 'Contadino' (mushroom, truffle paste, prosciutto and basil) and 'Tony 3 Times' (ham, salami and speck). I'm a fan of the thin pizza bases here because they offer a wholemeal option which always makes me feel better about eating a pizza but it's also still tasty. The pizzas are cut into uneven slices which makes it interesting to eat and keep track of how any slices you've had (keep in mind one pizza is perfect for one). I like dining in in the cool vibe of the restaurant or grabbing takeway because it's always ready so quickly. Service is also friendly and prompt.

Tony Tony Tony!

Id say this dining experience deserves what it is currently rated at; a 4. The food at Tony Tomatoes is good but not amazing. They are serving typical Italian food.
The pizza, although not wood fired, was fairly tasty. We ordered the prosciutto pizza.

Radicchio arancini and cannelloni bianchi were the highlights. Desserts were also pretty amazing- chocolate fondant- rich but yum and the semifredo with pistachios was creamy, sweet and nutty.

The restaurant has a great ambience and most of the staff are Italian. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgable.

If you are looking for some traditional Italian food then give this place a go. Worth a shot at least once. 😊

One thing I'd like to point out about this place is that they don't charge you an extra $5 just because you want buffalo mozzarella like many other Italian restaurants when ordering pizza. Their contadino pizza while not traditional is magnificent. This is the place to go if you want simple but delicious pizza. Perfect thin crust. I'm not much of a dessert person usually but I keep coming back for their AFFOGATO! 😎
Ross Bee
I can probably say it's the best pizza I've ever had!!
The staff were very helpful and I think the meals are priced correctly for the standard they are offering.

I have been there probably 5-6 times and order something different every time. Amazing food, amazing service. Would recommend to everyone for a great day/night out.
Ethical Hedonist
Perhaps my favourite pizza place in Adelaide. The atmosphere is lively, the service is quick (considering how busy it always is), and the pizza is authentic and delicious. I also enjoy the humour integrated into their menu and the unique options available.
SallyOrange
Been here a couple times for pizza and pasta! Great cocktail selection, the olives on arrival were a nice touch and the banquet menu is a great option for groups of four or more. Will definitely be back again. 😁

This place is awesome. We have been there 3 times now and was excellent everytime. Waiting staff are attentive (you dont sit for long with and empty drink) and food is delicious. We had the banquet with a group of people which is great value and tasty AF. Other favourites include the rib ravioli, risotto nero and the 'jenny craig special' (4 cheese pizza). Drinks menu is also very nice with a range of italian spritzes/cocktails. Would recommend strongly.

Very busy on Saturday night with my husband & sister, thank goodness we booked - however, we could only get in for an early dinner.
There is an awkward bottleneck point at the door where you wait to be seated while wait staff are going in & out to the outside tables, as well as patrons.
We were given a demitasse of fat, green olives to nibble on while perusing the menu.
Husband & sis both ordered the scotch fillet which was delivered quickly, cooked to their liking & delicious. It is served with a roasted tomato (yum), a salad plus strangely thin, tiny chips which are difficult to manage with a fork - you have to use your fingers to get a decent mouthful. I had some of each item & thought the salad was a bit over oiled.
I ordered the tuna pizza on the specials board. It was a good size but cut into only 4 pieces. I tried picking up a slice to eat it traditionally but the pointy end was very floppy so I used my cutlery. On request, we were given a dish of mayo (my sister is a big fan) & a dish of tomato sauce which was very salsa-like, not the ketchup variety, which I enjoyed very much.
I paced my eating, not finishing my pizza to 'save room' because I was determined to order the chocolate fondant off the specials board, to share with my blister. After waiting for a while, the waitress explained that there was a glitch with our order not printing out in the kitchen & she gave us two serves at no charge. I was very impressed. The fondant was HEAVEN, chocolatey & goopy inside, served with cream & berry coulis. I ate it slowly to savour every mouthful. This dessert should be a regular offering.

Went for dinner here while visiting Adelaide. Would definitely recommend! Delicious pizza, and plenty of vegetarian options. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the service was very quick in regards to food arriving.

Finally made it to Tony tomatoes. This has been the only restaurant people have recommended me to go to this past month. The staff here were very nice and attentive, they give you free green olives in a little cup which is a nice touch. My partner and I weren't overly hungry so we ordered the Aranchini balls and two pizzas the Aranchini balls were okay the rice was very fine so a bit mushy, my margarita pizza was delicious with perfect topping and the base was crisp. The pepperoni pizza however was very disappointing, the pepperoni tasted off, and the toppings looked not fresh, a bit can food like.

In conclusion I would go back there for the margarita pizza and the service.

I came here on my birthday, no complaints in regards to the food however upon return to the table about 2 and half pizzas were thrown away without us being informed or asked... not to mention close to $500 was spent that night here. My friend had approached the waiter and discussed this with her and in return we had received complimentary vouchers. A week later we had returned to claim the complimentary pizzas but were rudely told the vouchers were only valid in store with 1 per customer, when the voucher had no terms and conditions and nothing stipulated just 'enjoy a free pizza on us next time' there was 2 of us and nothing stated with the pizzas already made and we were given refusal that the vouchers were non applicable to it being takeaway with absolutely nothing stated on the voucher itself in which is illegal if you don't state details on how to claim it or fine print - we were made to feel highly uncomfortable as we originally enjoyed the first experience but not sure if I would go back after dealing with such rudeness.. not to mention they hid my friends review and mine (on facebook) with no apology after belittling us in front of dining customers. Won't be returning again, I've never encountered such rudeness from a business before until now !
ADL_FOODIE
I very much enjoyed my visit at tony tomatoes. All the pizzas were delicious, my favourite however was definitely the prosciutto - it was superb! We had some dessert also, boys had mini ice-cream cones, which although were slightly pricey, were well-liked. Us girls shared Zeppole, which were quite nice, but not as good as homemade (can you ever really top homemade though?!). The service was great, staff were prompt and very friendly! I would happily return and certainly recommend to family & friends!
BRUTAL
Usually have a Big Fun Take away pizza once a week.
Great flavors and excellent value $45 easily feeds 4 people.
Haven`t had a bad one yet and cooked through like a pizza should be (not soggy)
Famished
I liked everything about my visit to Tony Tomatoes, except for the choice of topping! It was a pity, because their bases are terrific, but 'Veg Patch' was an unusual combination of flavours that I didn't enjoy together. Having said that, the arancini was good, as was the service and venue itself. I'll be back to try another pizza.
Poppie
Poppie finally ate at Tony Tomatoes. He's been meaning to get here for a while after reading some great reviews and seeing very delicious photos. Eager would be an understatement for Poppie. First of all the table service is fantastic, very polite and full of energy. We started off with delicious asapagus and radicchio Arancini. Let Poppie tell you these were magnificent. He could eat them all day, order both, I can't split them taste wise. Then out came the pizzas which are quite delicious despite not being cooked in a wood oven. The Tony 3 times, Contadino and Margherita were stars of the show. Love the outside dining atmosphere and inside fit-out looked great too. This place definitely didn't let Poppie down. Fantastic all around, definitely worth an eat and will be back soon for sure 👍

Tony Tomatoes delivers yet again. My last visit was well over a year ago, and it left a great impression. This time we came on a busy Friday evening for a work Christmas dinner. Absolute praise all round! The pizzas and a couple of lasagnas looked and from what I've been told, were delicious. Great atmosphere as well and very efficient service.
Highly recommended!

Best Pizza in Adelaide by far! Have come on my occasions and it never disappoints. Overall nothing cannot be faulted, Great Food, Great Coffee!
_foodiej
Absolutely enjoyed my time here with friends for dinner! The waiter was really friendly and offered to do his best for a group of 14 diners, and took everyone's order with precision and a lot of attentive listening. Now to the pizzas - tasty and delicious. Every pizza was full of flavour but I found the base to be a bit too thin for my liking. The pricing could have also been lower considering it wasn't filling, nevertheless, this is great for big groups and for those of you who don't eat much.
Nina Zivanic
Tony Tomatoes never disappoints! Their pizzas are every food lovers heaven, thin/crispy crust, fresh and delicious toppings and amazing wood oven flavour and for the pasta lovers their cannelloni is to die for. Annnd to top it off their staff is great always attentive and super friendly. Overall a great dinning experience! Keep up the good work guys.
Udiberi
Definitely worth going. I love this place. Yum food and does not disappoint. Good service. And good flavours. Pasta was a little too acidic for me one time but the pizzas are great. But I will be back.
TPD
We tried 3 different type of pizzas: all have beautifully thin and crispy crust. The flavours were really nice with fresh ingredients. The price was on the high side compared to portions. We had to order 3 pizzas for 2 adults, the children shared their own.
Aaron Smith
One of my absolute favourite places to eat in Adelaide! We normally lob here after a few post work week drinks and never have a problem getting a table even when they are heaving. As soon as you walk in you get a sense of a family run business with very service focused staff and owners! Mum behind the bar gives us a smile and nod as if to say nice to see you again, which we love! They have high tables and regular tables inside or street side dining with cover and screens to block some of the noise from O'Connell st and gas heaters for the cooler months.

On this night we had the asparagus aranchini balls which were lightly crumbed and crunchy with smooth pearly rice in the middle with a hint of sharp cheese inside. For mains we shared a PSSS pizza and their version of a caprese salad which is served deconstructed with lovely ripe tomatoes and gooey burrato mozzarella. The pizza's are large with thin crusts and good quality produce on top. We had a bottle of local Pinot Grigio and the house made tiramisu for dessert and a coffee for $110. Tony's insnt really a cheap and cheerful Italian place for a cabonara and garlic bread, rather a genuine Italian family restaurant and well worth the visit.
The Munchkin
Great selection of pizza and drinks list. Had 2 pizzaa to share between 3 people and could not even finish it. Must get the chilli oil and flakes for extra spice. And must book ahead as gets very crowded. Pizza didnt take that long to arrive maybe 10 to 15 minutes
AdelaideDiner
This place has fantastic pizza, and the other items on the menu aren't bad either... that's if you get around to trying them!! The Italian "Fish & Chips" were a real hit at our table, and the zeppole dessert was heavenly. Busy and bustling as any good pizza place should be the only thing about this place is it can get quite loud.
Rosie
Delicious. Perfectly cooked. Authentic Italian pizza. We had Mr Pig which was just gorgeous. Good quality Gorgonzola and my favourite - rabe! YUM! We also had a prosciutto which was delicious of course, the Sugo was so rich and yum. Unfortunately for us we had to leave half way through due to a tired bub but a great experience. Looking around all the dishes looked amazing. The interior was stunning and romantic. LOVE
Ivastic
Have been here 5 times over the last year, the pizzas are the best I have had in Adelaide, the service is always good, although maybe a little too enthusiastic (often asked the same question but 3 or 4 different wait staff) great beer menu, although could have more local craft beer, and the wine list is fantastic. I recommend the arancini as a starter and the Jenny Craig special all cheese pizza pie the veg patch - the smoked corn on this pizza is incredible.
FoodCritiq
I had highly anticipated this visit and I think expectations set too high. The atmosphere was cold and uninviting, the service average and food even more so. There were barely 5 tables seated and we had to ask for an extra table since there was barely room for 4 adults to have antipasto and drinks. By the time mains came out the waiter finally saw the struggle and obliged our request to add the empty table next to us so we could eat. Although I couldn't fault the freshness it was all a bit of a mish mash of flavours - somewhat Italian inspired but not cohesive. From the pasta special, to the pizzas to simple sides nothing overtly excited us. The dessert was probably the most enjoyable. Overall a pretty 'meh' sitting for a 'wowser' bill!!
Young
Probably one of the best pizza places in adelaide! Pizzas are nice: i also love the spelt salad and aranchini balls. Oh and do ask for chilli oil, it goes very nicely with the pizza!!! Its always busy at Tony tomatoes so do book before heading there.
Paris Johnson
I love everything about this place. Especially the healthy options available. To the old school people who enjoy thick crusted pizza, big enormous plates of pasta and lost of bread and butter, this isn't for them. This a modern, healthy take on Italian cuisine. I have always found staff and the owner very friendly and accommodating and everytime I have gone there the food has been exceptional! And unless you are dining at pizza hutt or your local pizzeria where the Hawian is on special, the standard price for a decent Italian style pizza nation wide, is now anywhere between $19-$24.
Jordy Partington
This is my third time eating at Tony Tomatoes and all three times, the food has been nothing short of delicious. I love to share dishes, to get a taste of everything. My friend and I ordered the asparagus arancini as a starter – the small serve was quite generous, with large sized arancini balls. They were subtle, yet tasty! We then shared the rib ravioli and the stracciatella pizza, which are both regular specials. For the pasta lovers, I would definitely recommend the rib ravioli. The combination of pork and veal is wonderful, with the delicious tomato sugo topping it off. The pizza was also delightful, with generous amounts of prosciutto
and the cream of mozzarella adding another level of flavour. We enjoyed the meals with the Tony’s Vino Rosso.

The service was great, providing us with olives upon arrival. The ambience was also fantastic – we sat on the high table with a lot of space in the cosiness of the restaurant, unaware of the wintery night outside.

One of the best restaurants in Adelaide. Service and quality of food always brilliant!!! Pasta and pizzas are amazing. Recommend this place very highly and always go back. Each time we go back it gets better and better. Well done staff!!! Keep up the good work.

Amazing pizzas! Tonight we tried the Flying Anchovies and Contidina (not sure of spelling) pizza. We are always happy with their customer service as well :)
Sandra
Eh... Gluten free base needs serious work. My jaw actually hurt from chewing so much 😳 it tasted like the base was overly worked/cooked and toppings lacked so much volume and "oomph." Expected a lot more. Plus we waited 40 minutes for a bottle of wine that we found out was never ordered. Eh.

Amazing experience!!

My husband and I recently dined at Tony Tomatoes as we had been hearing rave reviews. We are very happy to report that this gem in North Adelaide completely lived up to our expectations. The food was sensational and the service was outstanding.
Definitely be back and highly recommend.
KnifeAndFork
After hearing such great things about this place, how disappointing! After ordering 2 garlic breads we received only one, then the pizzas came....the salami and pepperonis were ok, the chicken and the pork (mr pig) so disappointing and missed the mark. Not sure what the big deal was.
Peckish
Tony Tomatoes from the outside looks so appealing. Great decor and ambience, it's a shame their "specialty" in pizza making is so lack lustre.
What an overpriced waste of money. A group of friends and I ordered 6 different pizzas all averaging around the $24 mark. This place is like a try hard gourmet pizza place without the good toppings. There is little to no sauce or flavour, the Mr Pig while looking delicious was tasteless, as was the eat my breast. When you're asking for $25 a pizza I would expect flavour city a la the Pizza Society. In this case, we could have saved our money and had better pizza at Australia's Pizza House. What a stinker.
Tige
Tony Tomatoes is a great place if you want a good feed at reasonable prices. We've had work functions here and I've also been here with my husband too for a quick bite to eat. The pizzas are well made, thinly rolled with a crispy crust. The flavours are fairly traditional and the pizzas are really tasty. They have options for sharing plates and salads if that's what you prefer. If you do go with a big group of friends the banquet offers fantastic value for money. Drink selections are good and the cocktails are delicious, Aperol spritzers are a must! Give it a go next time you're in that part of the city.
Nomadic Envy
I can think of at least couple of restaurants when it comes to finding good pizza places in Adelaide. My current favourite wood-fired pizza place in Adelaide would have to be Tony Tomatoes. I have been there numerous times (mostly for their pizzas and small sharing plates) and I found them consistently incredibly delicious every time! Located on O’Connell St in North Adelaide, this is a quite popular spot. We got lucky and managed to walk in on a Friday evening as we got there little early, but by the time we left there was a long line up.

The venue is well-decorated with modern-rustic decorations, with lots festive colours. There are enough space to accommodate large groups but at the same time feels quite cozy, making this place a great choice for a date night venue.

I had Contadino this time, which was a simple and beautiful pizza made with fresh prosciutto, truffle paste, mozzarella, mushroom, and basil. This is probably why my husband and I weren't too impressed with the pizzas we had in Italy in few months back. This is the Adelaide's the best pizza place!

This time we decided to also try one of their sharing plates. Pork rib eye Tagliata was also incredibly delicious. The pork was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and juicy meat. Along with it came the sweet apricot and mango chutney, mustard, and parmesan and pecorino crisp, which really complemented the pork.

Definitely has the potential to be an amazing eatery and don't get me wrong it is great, we went back a second time just for the Tony Pepperoni pizza, unfortunately although the other pizzas are good (we tried 5 in total) they don't come close to the Pepperoni. I feel it was because of the red sauce they put on the Pepperoni, none of the others had the red sauce and although they were good, they lacked flavour. The red sauce pasta was devine, the arancini balls were a bit bland. Go for the Tony Pepperoni. Service was nice and attentive.
P
good pizza but it doesn't quite live up to the hype, not the "best pizza in Adelaide"

I can see why TT's has good reputation.
The pizzas were great and of the thin base variety with just enough toppingWe had Tony Pepperoni & Tony 3 times plus the Breast on a decent gluten-free base
so good for the GF's
The entrees are v. good too.
The service was friendly from our waiter friend, ex St Tropez !

I don’t mean to make comparisons, but I only make comparisons because people tend to have particular preferences towards pizzas. There are people who love Dominos classic range for what it is and good for them, I love it too. This place does wood-oven pizzas, and they do them very well. You have the option of selecting three different types of bases, I chose the white base the night I was eating, and had the Salame and Margharrita.

That being said their pizzas are certainly better than MELT pizzeria tapas bar. The base tastes better here. I felt that Melt’s pizza base had poorer texture than the top pizza places (Tony Tomatoes being one of them). The white dough bases were soft, and well-cooked at Tony Tomatos compared to, what felt to be, the harder, chewier (in a personally undesirable way). Again I don’t mean to knock Melt, it’s a good place to eat, I would go there again for the Tapas, but I’m doing my best to describe what I believe seperates Tony Tomatoes from the good to the excellent.

The Marghartia had this amazing cheese and my Salame pizza had delicious salami. The waiter offered this chilli oil and chilli flakes to go with my pizza and it just made it ascend to the next level. The sauce used in both pizzas was very delicious.

You can tell they want this place to be a great place as smiles were all around. Walking in and out of the restaurant, you’ll be treated with friendly smiles and happy voices.

Now is this place better than my favourite Pizza E Mozzerella? Has Tony Tomatoes become my new favourite? At this point in time it’s difficult to say convincingly which one is better. I LOVED my time at both places, and they were good value for money. With that being said, Pizza E Mozzerella edges slightly because from what I remember I feel that I can taste each individual ingredient more. You can’t go wrong by going to this place for your and your friend’s gourmet pizza needs. Tony Tomatoes is one of the best pizza restaurants I’ve been to and I need to come back here again, that’s for sure.

Good atmosphere with a nice range of pizzas to choose from. Food and service is always at a good standard. Manager is very friendly. Only mark down was some of the pizza bases I didn't enjoy as much due to thickness. But all in all very good place to dine.

Came here for Valentine's dinner without a booking. The waitress was lovely and accommodating. The overall service actually was very nice, pleasant and not overbearing.

We ordered the garlic pizza, ravioli (pasta special) and the pork and veal poplettes.
The pizza was quite crispy but generally average. The poplettes (like meatballs) were good. The ravioli however was my favourite. Beautiful, big sized with a generous yummy filling!

Had the contadina (sp?) pizza for main and asparagus arancini for starter. Food comes out quickly, and service is top-notch. Wish the pizzas came in smaller sizes for small eaters.

Seriously the best pizza in adelaide , the state and possibly the country. Great service which tends to slow down when they are booked out. Most of the staff seem to be young European backpackers who bring their relaxed nature and enthusiasm to the table. We will always go back. A little tip; the cannelloni are amazing and extremely reasonably priced! So is the lentil salad which was dense enough to have as a whole meal ;)

After hearing great things about Tony Tomatoes my partner and I, lovers of pizza that we are, decided to check this place out.

The restaurant is quite spacious and interior is done well with low and high tables, as well as a bar in the centre. We were greeted and seated by who I believe was the owner of the establishment, an older man with an Italian accent. The menu was interesting to read, with diverse and interesting pizza flavour combos.

We decided to try the Italian fish and chips (deep fried calamari and zucchini strips). The calamari was nice but the zucchini lacked flavour or salt and tasted heavily of fried oil. This was not as enjoyable.

Onto mains, we both got a pizza each. My partner ordered the all meat pizza which loved and it was quite tasty. And I ordered the special on the board, a pizza that came with pickled artichoke, mascarpone cream, cheese and meat. This was an interesting combo and actually tasted quite good, albeit quite oily and fatty. The pizzas took about 30min to come out.

We also decided to try the Italian desserts. To our disappointment the zeppole was dry and dense, and my semifredo was frozen solid with strong fridge taste (the kind of taste your food acquires after being left uncovered in the fridge - not particularly appealing). Both dishes were left uneaten.

Although the service was great and the pizzas delicious, I can't say this place was amazing. I would go back again to try their other pizzas but nothing else.

I liked the athmosphere there, very nice staff and the food was ok, electric oven for pizza not a great idea, good place for families with kids or groups
Gus' Gastro Review
This troublesome little lease spot on O'Connell St. must have an element of bad luck or curse upon it. A restaurant to have leased this shop has ever managed well to remain open very long. Tony opened a little while ago but I was lucky enough to have it suggested to me last week. A table booked for 8 the day before proved no issue, but I'm glad we did. It was full, buzzing and brimming with clientele.
A nice selection of Italian grape varieties and boutique Italian beers grace the menu so indulge your pallet along side a pizza worthy of the slight premium. Staff, knowledgeable and friendly made our stay comfortable, complimentary olives a bonus. Pizzas came out relatively inconsistently, with half our table not receiving their meals until we'd nearly completed ours. Not to be disheartened, there were 2 tables of 20, and only so much room in the ovens.
Recommended! You won't eat pizza anywhere else on O'Connell.
Consistent business, on a Thursday like this should see good fortune come Tony's way. Congrats on a nice joint, I'll be back. If it weren't for the convenience of home delivery, I'd be there more so.

Nice pizzas, nice atmosphere amd efficient service. The only downside will probably be the sizes of the portions compared to the price. Still, I'll come back!

Really awesome dinner 4 one
Great food
Extends the Ruby Red franchise in a great way
Sunday evening and the place is packed
That says it all
How this place gets a 3.6 is a surprise to me. Absolutely awesome! From the service, to the value, to the food and quality of the produce - all were A1. We had a few entrees/sides and 4 different pizzas and could fault any of them. Highly recommended and I'm struggling to think why this isn't the best pizza I've ever had. I believe in giving credit where it's due and this place deserves every bit of the credit they get. Well done.

Consistently excellent pizza, sides and service! Would definitely recommend the prosciutto plate, italian fish and chips and the tony pepperoni pizza. The perfect amount of food for two hungry diners!

I've been to Tony Tomatoes 4 times over the past year and each time they've been consistently top notch. I'm pretty sure they're managed by the same guys that run Ruby Red Flamingo, and Tony Tomatoes is similarly a really cool casual pizza joint with an open layout where you can see the kitchen in the back where the pizzas are being made, and a nice bar to one side.

On their menu they've got a range of italian sharing plates such as arancini (raddichio >> asparagus), cured meat plates, and salads, but their pizzas is where the money is at. I gotta say my usual favourite is the Tony 3 Times with salami, ham and barossa speck, but I just tried one of their specials, the Strachateli, with mozzarella, prosciutto and cream of mozzarella. Drizzle some chilli oil on the pizzas and it's all over. Definitely gotta try it. I'm not a huge fan of tiramisu, but my mates say it's first class. I'm personally really keen on the zeppoles.

Service is great here, they're always attentive, happy to explain the menu and lots of smiles the way it should be when you're eating pizza. It's not my favourite place for pizza in Adelaide, but it's definitely up there and the pizza place I've been to most this year! Will definitely keep coming back.

I think I have found another favourite pizza joint. Tony Tomatoes is located near the end of O'Connell Street if you are travelling from the city. With the warmer weather, there is definitely a lot of people eating out. All along O'Connell Street, you can see the eateries setting up outdoor seating. Tony Tomatoes is no exception.

great little pizza place! we went there for the first time when we couldn't get a seat into their other restaurant and we're glad we did they make authentic wood oven pizzas and arancini balls to die for! I would book before hand because it does get quite busy.

Everything we ordered was incredible! (We got the aranchini balls, cannelloni, breast pizza, semifreddo) Service was fantastic and very quick

Absolutely loved this restaurant. We had 4 pizzas and a homemade pasta dish. Loved the base and the great variety of toppings and that they were not the 'standard' but catered for new and exciting possibilities. Generous portions. Pasta tasty and soft, delicious. We are new to the area went for a walk and decided on the restaurant based on the fact that it was packed. Always a great sign. It was our daughters birthday and staff went out of their way to make her feel special with extra dessert on the house. (chocolate fondant - to die for :)) Highly recommend and first time writing a food review, but so impressed we felt we needed to share. Thank you for making our night so special.

Great atmosphere, good service. But appalling pizzas. Why bother? Surely the cost of ingredients is negligible. Excellent pizza crust but miserable topping.

I absolutely love the pizzas here. Service is always friendly and prompt and the wholemeal based are crispy and thin. Every pizza wether meaty or just cheesy is excellent. Had the ravioli Of the day which was supple and thin homemade pasta with a tasty pork veal filling. A pity the sugo was too salty and maybe a little bland, tomatoey goodness but just not rich enough to be satisfying. Would stick with the pizzas.
Wine choice is great.

BEST PIZZA IN ADELAIDE!

PROS
- The pizza. I'm not kidding this place has the most amazing pizzas you will ever have. All the flavours on the pizza work so so well, especially on the "Psss" pizza, my favourite!
- Service: majority of the times I've been there the service has been great, but sometimes it feels like you've been forgotten, but it doesn't take long to get a waiters attention.

CONS
None!
Peperoncino
Finding a good Italian pizzeria that is open during the day is not that easy in Adelaide with most places only serving meals during lunch time and then later in the evening. I was super hungry without any proper breakfast so guess I was lucky ending up at Tony's just when they opened at 5:30.
The place is modern but cosy and spacious with a good vibe and Tony the owner is pretty much everywhere and so is his Italian speaking staff.
Although the company logo and name would rather suit an American style take-away pizzeria this place serves proper Italian food.
The menu is medium size and the chef rings his bell pretty often even in a crowded environment so you will not have to wait long.
I ordered a Salame pizza which arrived in less than 10 minutes and the first impression was very good. I also got fresh olives, olive oil and home made excellent chili olive oil. The salami and mozzarella and practically all ingredients were all top notch and likely imported Italian. The dough was paper thin dry on the bottom and moist on top and the crust was not bad. Both of my pizzas had a similar crust with average thickness but it did have spots raised better. I prefer my Italian crust somewhat thicker but lighter so it was either an issue with the wood fired oven or not enough yeast in the dough as the crust was just not perfect. My second pizza was the Fun Guy with mushroom, rocket, pear and nuts with a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar and was a super nice and uncommon combination of ingredients. I can highly recommend this invention.
I also had a nice macchiato and delicious semifreddo which was a generous and heavy portion with honey caramelized pistachio sprinkle. A wow factor for me!
So in summary a nice place with friendly staff and great food. Everybody should find something suitable for their taste buds

I really like the feel of this place, lighting is nice, decor is nice, staff are fabulous! This is always a good start to the night. Everything that we ate here was just delicious! This is how I like my pizza, fresh toppings, not too heavy and a great base and that is exactly what was delivered! We have since been back, the food and service has remained consistent. This is so important in keeping those doors open and we would like the doors to remain open! Good work guys, see you again soon!

I had big expectations of this place, and I must say I was pretty disappointed with the quality of food. The Service was great, and credit to the restaurant, they did not charge us for the pizza. I dont mind paying big dollars for a meal, however the quality of the food served up to us was terrible. Sorry I will not be going back.

Only upside is the Pizzas anything else don't bother. Pizzas are perfectly done thin crust and full of flavour is the only reason I be back in.

Fathers Day Lunch today for 5. The hustle and bustle and general vibe of the place good. Starters (Aranchini Balls and Calamari & Zucchini) average & had to ask for parmesan cheese twice. Food delivered promptly but drinks were slower. Pizzas were good size and tasty with a lovely thin crust. Could have done with more toppings...
Overall a pleasant experience, but wont rush back there... Will add that we wernt informed by any of the staff of daily specials, which I personally found annoying. Did not like the oversize food menu and separate drink menu. Much prefer a smaller more concise menu containing Daily Specials, Food & Drinks... ..."Eating Our Way Around Adelaide.!!!"

Been to tony tomatoes a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. Fairly priced pizzas with a good range of toppings and great service. Would recommend

Another nice place to add on the list at o'connell street. Nicely spaced restaurant but can gets fairly noisy and crowded. Recommends booking if group bigger than 5. On Friday and Saturday nights, book regardless. There's 9 of us so v decided to go with the banquet... Beautiful and very tasty pizza. Banquet of $40 you get to choose 4 different pizza. The chillie oil and free chillie served with it is absolutely gorgeous. Pizza base is thin and crispy. Not too doughy or heavy. We then have spatchcock, pork and beef. There's two plates of spatchcock. One of those were slightly undercook - slight blood present. But the other bird was cook to perfection. Flavour was beautiful - there's cappers which I love. The combination flavour served on the plate of pork was weird but works very very well. I give them the credits of creativity. We have pork with mango chutney (surprisingly it works really well tgt). Beef was one of the best cook medium rare. To seal the night we have some fantastic tiramisu, as one of our ladies cannot have tiramisu, she was served chocolate lava cake which was equally as good!!!! Tony tomatoes has make our night fairly good except for the slight under spatchcock. Staffs were very friendly - I'll definitely be back again.
