Review Vietnam Restaurant - Adelaide

Sirirat Wiriyakiat
First time visit, recommended by friend but far our house. Lucky went early and got a table. Very friendly staff and service was great. Big portions and ended takeaway home. Definitely will go back again.

We had an amazing night, there is a reason this place is busy, amazing staff and amazing food. The menu can be a maze to start with but try a few entree including the Vietnamese parcels. For the mains if it's a hot night sit out the front and enjoy making your own cold rolls. Dont be afriad, if you need they will guide you so you'll be rolling like a pro in no time. Even if you're bad they will still taste amazing with that secret sauce they make. We ordered the quail and for a first time quail person the char and spice was epic. We will be back and we will continue to try the rest of the amazing dishes we saw coming through the restaurant. There should be 6 stars for this place.

A great dining experience. We went for dinner in the evening, recommended to make a reservation in advance. The meal was delicious, traditional Vietnamese, and the service was great!

Excellent service here! They brought us napkins and change hot water bowl before we asked. Everyone has such good attitude and warm hearts here. They really care about customers. Food is very authentic and delicious! A must try in Adelaide!

This place is like an institution has being around for years, they have a wide variety if typical dishes had the quails which were great and as usual so many dishes are ordered they were great too. Advise to go early they get busy and once you order it can takes some time to get to the table. If you like this review please like and share.

Authentic Vietnamese food. Staff are friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced. Recommend the Soft Shell Crabs. Make sure you book ahead.

Nice restaurant to experience Vietnamese food. Very friendly staff and good variety of choices for drinks and food. Fresh and tasty food ( except for the oyster which was not very fresh and clean). The best dishes were fried eggplants and the savoury roasted quail which was perfectly cooked and balanced. The desert was very nice as well but of course was more of an Italian than Vietnamese. Nice experience in general. Next time i am planing to try other dishes

This place was incredible , I can’t fault the food or the service . Going to be a regular place to dine at. Gotta try the cheese burger spring rolls if you go and the make your own cold rolls

Great food...wonderful staff. Can’t do enough for you. Salt and pepper eggplant...amazing! Vietnamese rolls...yum! Wish I had a bigger stomach to fit more in! Thank you to the owners and the amazing staff!

What a restaurant! Lovely friendly effecient staff. Maria made myself and my colleague very welcome. The food is brilliant and price very reasonable. I highly recommend Vietnamese food fans give this place a go. Try the pork ball cold rolls and the crispy squid.

This Restaurant has great food but the service is bordering on incompetent, on 3 separate occasions we have ordered meals that have not been forthcoming, on the last occasion i asked a waitress to check the meal & never heard from her again. Surly it better to limit your customers to a level your staff can handle. For me never ever again!
Amy Godfrey
Several times ive eaten here with friends and each time it doesnt disappoint! The food is so fresh and delicious. The service always with a smile, even when i try and order hoisin with my cold rolls and are very quickly told "no! You must have the special sauce!" . Do not leave without ordering the salt and pepper eggplant (oh em gee), the seafood glass noodle salad and the sugar cane prawn cold rolls. Be back soon!!!

Stopped in for lunch today,it was so busy we asked to sit outside expecting a wait but no the staff were excellent icy cold beer immediately and then cold flannels. The meal was faultless we will definitely be back cheers guys

too crowded. even though we booked they didn't have enough seats. we had two separate round tables so couldn't sit together. The children ordered noodles but were last to be fed. the wait staff were busy and didn't return with drinks until being asked twice. the food was really nice but my crispy ginger and chilli pork was dry and no sauce.
Marion Skarstrom
A very welcoming restaurant, we didn't book but they found us a table, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and didn't take long to come out. The prices were very reasonable and the amount of food was great, we couldn't eat it all so we took a doggie bag home with us. We will most defiantly gbe going there again.

Great place. The best food 🥘 and friendly staff

Food was fantastic as usual. As a regular customer I would like to compliment all staff on the care and attention on display. Maria reminded me of a conductor leading her orchestra as they smoothly deal with the needs of all. The best service, teamwork personified and a pleasure to witness. Thanks Maria for always being great x

This is one of the best Vietnamese food restaurant you can find in Adelaide. The BBQ quail is one of the must-try. I also love their hot and sour soup here. Overall, the food is prepared fresh and served hot. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. if you're coming at around 6-8pm, remember to book prior to coming, since they can get busy. Will DEFINITELY come and enjoy their food again!

Quail n roasted meatballs to die for. The best Vietnamese I have had in a very long time . Adelaide peeps if you have not been .. gotta go

Pick up Order was incorrect food was cold even though we picked it up 5 minutes early. One dish was so horrible no one would eat it
Davide Stella
Came to Vietnam restaurant many times, food is good but service is always very disappointing. We just got some takeaway and after repeating the order 3 times over the phone they still managed to get the order wrong. When we pointed out that the order was wrong the lady at the counter said she wasn’t sure about what we ordered so she just decided for us. We won’t be back as we have reached our limit..at some point you need to feel like a valued customer.

Always a pleasure to share the dinning experience with various people all of whom have nothing but the best to say about the food and the service...Dinh and his family continue to make this one of if not the best Vietnamese restaurant in Adelaide.

Awesome place. My favourite place of all time.
The Vietnam is an iconic restaurant that has been around for many years. The food is great, no fuss and plenty of options for all tastes. The business is family run so staff are super friendly and polite. Prices are good and if you get the chance to book in for Vietnamese new year you should do so as it’s a great night. Banquets are a great option if you don’t know what to choose off the menu but the quails are a must. Sometimes it can be a bit tight for space but that because it’s so popular with everyone. Go there, you won’t regret it.

Great local place that been here for years.
The food and atmosphere are very quaint and bookings a much.
Very popular with the Vietnamese community.
My family and I were visiting Adelaide, and came here for dinner after getting recommendations from a friend. We arrived around 8pm on a weekday, and was able to get a table for 5pax despite just walking in without a booking(booking definitely recommend!!).
We ordered the warm seafood salad, crispy soft shell crab, salt n pepper eggplant, combination hotpot rice, BBQ lemongrass chicken and the sugarcane prawns vermicelli noodles.
All the dishes were really tasty and it didn't take too long for the dishes to come. Service could be improved..but otherwise the food is great!
I would come back if I visited Adelaide again.

A mate of mine and I just rocked up one night before a movie. We had not booked and there were no free tables. Seen as it was just the 2 of us they asked if we were just just having mains and knew what we wanted. We said yes. So they were grabbed a table from a big reserved table that had not yet arrived just for us and took our order. 5 minutes later we had our meals. Then as we left the table we had used went back on the long reserved row just as the new diners arrived. We were in and out in 20 minutes, but even during that time the owner had the time to stop by and welcome us and make sure we were happy... the meals were great. A place that will accommodate you if they can. But I strongly recommend booking like I have done so since. It's worth it.

Fantastic food ! We had the sizzling peanut steak and honey chicken, fried rice and the beef Satay for entree was the best we've ever had. Service was super quick and the young waitresses and waiter were extremely helpful and polite, the older ones not so much but whatever the food was great! It was packed to the rafters but we were in and out within an hour! Vietnamese coffee to finish was excellent.

Famous Vietnam restaurant in Adelaide, everyone goes there, great food, love the pork and prawn rolls and quails. Need to book ahead as seats go fast.

The food is always tasty, the menu is diverse and the staff are friendly. But things are always the same, this is not necessarily a bad thing, but creativity and innovation is also not a bad thing. The prices aren’t the cheapest, this pushes the value down! Good but not the best anymore.

Have to admit that this is the best taste Vietnamese food I ever had!!! From the drink and entrées to main dishes, everything taste amazing!! I highly recommend all the food i try and no one should miss that coconut juice, you won't find the same thing in other restaurants.
This restaurant is very busy so you have to book in advance!!! We have book a time from 5:30-7:00 (yes, it has time limits) and the restaurant is always full and crowded during our eating.
The reason why I give 4 is that it seems the waitress will always hard sell something. The eggplant is the one recommended by the waitress, although it really taste good but one of my friend is allege to it. We agree to order but just 1 min later we remind this fact and ask another waitress to cancel this dish, but after 10mins the eggplant still comes and we still have to pay for it.
Must be the best food I ate in Adelaide!
Perry Zhao
really bad service this time. I was a loyalty customer of this restaurant but this time here really disappointed me. 1. the manager compels us to order what she wants us to order then changed an inpatient face cause we ordered something else.2 the food quality is not what it should be. We ordered two beef noodle., but they only give us one serve of vegetable and one chili sauce, and said two serves are together? What?? You know how small the dish is ? Only one basil on the top of bean sprout!!!
Asha
A Vietnamese icon in Adelaide since the 1980s! Amazing cheap Vietnamese food.... their pork meatballs and sugarcane prawns are the best I've ever had... their bbq Quail is an experience .... service can vary depending on how busy they are but the food is definitely worth a try

First time to dine at Vietnam Restaurant for dinner service. Decor basic. Service prompt and friendly. Had seafood salad, cold roll diy platter, quail, and combination pork rice also coconut juice. All ingredients fresh and full of flavour. Overall a great experience and will definitely come back again.

I've visited this establishment 3 times and I live in Sydney. I would visit with my partners' mother and she would take me here every second trip I'm down to visit.

She always knows what to order, and on occasion, the staff would provide suggestions from the new menu items.

Food would arrive promptly and great as we always order food to feast upon like a banquet. I've always enjoyed their fried rice, salt and pepper calamari. Recently tried their salt and pepper eggplant and would not have expected how much I'd like it.

Their dessert menu is limited but I've always enjoyed the different treats they have.

I'm sure to visit them for the rest of my life and I cannot see how they can do any wrong.
Michael N.
Arguably the best Vietnamese restaurant in Adelaide. Most dishes are done well, tasty and authentic. The fact the place is packed most nights is a testament to the quality of their food. My only complaint is that their tables for two are small so cannot order too many dishes at a time.
Sabrina
All foods are delicious and I will be back when I come here again. Staffs served well even everyone was very busy. Overall, this is one of the best Vietnamese restaurant ever in Adelaide.

I have heard soooo much about Vietnam Restaurant and I finally I had the opportunity to try it out. We were lucky to walk in and get a table for 2, for an hr, on a Tuesday night the restaurant was fully booked out. The dishes were tasty but I guess with all the hype I was expecting more..
Danguglielmucci
Best Vietnamese in Adelaide. You HAVE to book, it's always booked out. Highlights are the beef satay (coming from someone who hates beef satay, I can't stress how delicious they are), the quail, the prawn and sugarcane skewers, the soft shell crab, the pho and the coconut juice. I love everything on the menu.
Tcardone66
Bad food. Bad service. Very disappointing. Meals came out 1 hour apart. Excuse given was that different sections of the kitchen cook different meals so it's hard to coordinate timing. Also, people that came in after us received their meals before us. It's hard to argue with someone who doesn't think they are wrong.
Ben
I didn't even think to reserve a table before We came tonight since it is a quiet suburb. The restaurant was packed before 7pm on sat night.
Inside dining layout is overcrowded and noisy, I think it would be nicer to sit outdoor area if not too cold.

The food was great and remarkable. The kitchen work fast to push out all our food in half hr after we ordered. Specially, the restaurant was already busy and jam packed.

Waitress MARIA was the highlight of the night.
She breakdown the menu, explains the dishes and takes care of the whole table. She recommends their signature dishes for our first visit sake. The success of restaurant greatly results from her hospitality (if she is actually the owner)

Probably one of the best Vietnamese food I have ever had. Had the quail, seafood salad and the cold roll combination. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cold rolls are a must try because the peanut sauce is amazing.

Alright, it's so hard for me to review this restaurant because this is one of my favourite places and its because their food were actually amazing and the people were so lovely.

However, we went here to celebrate my parent's wedding anniversary. We've ordered a few main dishes and they were all amazing. Every bits of it were
Super delicious!! In fact I was so happy, all the food that we ordered were amazing and appetising.

Tho the issue was they all came out separately. The crispy soft shell crabs and salt and pepper squid came out 15 mints after ordering. Followed by the fried rice 20 minutes later. Then followed by the rest of the dishes. Everything went cold and we couldn't really enjoy it because the main dishes came out 20 mins before the fried rice and others. It was such a disappointment. Tho the manager realised that we were a bit upset and told us that next time tell them to take all the dishes (main, appetisers etc.) out at the same time and she was so apologetic. The experience was almost perfect I was gonna give them a 5 because their food was the best! The best ever ! So sorry for now but I have to review my entire experience and not just the food !

Vietnam restaurant is really popular. It is one of me and my friends' favourite place to dine. I brought my parents to Vietnam restaurant on a weekday after 8pm and it was still packed. I really love their make your own sugar cane prawns and pork balls cold roll. Not to mention their quails which are amazing as well.
Tiges
We arrived for our 7:45 booking and were immediately seated. Staff were friendly and helpful. We possibly over ordered as we were all hungry but also wanted to try so much. The make your own cold rolls are a nice social element to the meal and the pork balls were delicious. The quail was also delicious. My favourite main would have been the clay pot but I suggest getting a side of veg with it as the flavour is strong and it needs some balance.
Will certainly go back if we visit Adelaide again. It's certainly worth the drive too (we drive from Belair).
Vivi Wulansari
Visited this restaurant by a friend's recommendation and it was sooo good!!! Food was delicious, good portion, reasonably price and friendly service. It was packed at 5pm, a sign of a good restaurant! Everyone in Adelaide or visiting Adelaide must try and book before you go. We were lucky to get a table because we came early on our way to the airport.
David Russell
Made a booking for Valentine's Day and arrived 5 minutes before that time. We were told it would be "a few minutes". We waited for 40 minutes before being told that there were no tables. There were also 10 other people who had bookings and were also waiting. Letting us know upfront when we arrived would have been polite so at least everyone could have made there way to another restaurant before places shut for the night. We won't be trying again and urge others be aware that a booking means nothing at The Vietnam Restaurant.

This place is always busy but it doesn't mean you have to be rude to your customers. The older lady was very rude and the food was ok, batter on the prawns tastes floury and not crispy
Meitakyorke
Being served by one the most annoying waitress... being pushed to order at least four times in 10 mins and hard sell all the dishes we weren't not interned in. I don't think that lady is an asset for your business as I wound not go back to this restaurant simply because of her.

Food quality had also gone down...the famous hot pot rice is tasteless and we had to ask extra sauce for it.
Caroline Clarke
Food was lovely but don't go there if you don't want indigestion as you are rushed out the door so they can get in the people that are waiting outside. All our banquet meals came one after the other with no break in between even when we specifically asked them to slow them down. We were given the bill without asking for it and when they collected it we were told "people are waiting"
Phyllis
Will not return to this restaurant. Cashier is rude and has an attitude problem. Waited to use the eftpos machine for 10 minutes, yet she did not even bother to explain it is down. She then put someone else's card payment before mine. Avoid this place if you are Asian, the Caucasian customers clearly get better service.
Chewi
Food was delicious! I recommend the bbq quail and the cold roll with pork. The combination rice (medium) was nice and can feed 3-4 people.

Usually jam-packed to capacity during Friday and Saturday nights, this small and crowded restaurant is one of the more reputable Vietnamese people talk about in Adelaide. Over the few times we have been to this place we have found that the food can sometimes get a bit too salty and we are left feeling thirsty after our meals. Too much MSG? And as pointed out by others the service here can be quite unsatisfactory. If you're planning to have dinner here on a Friday or Saturday a booking on the day itself won't get you in, unless you're happy to have dinner at something like 5pm and be prepared to leave by 6pm, which strangely, is what they always suggest, and unfortunately the food is not good enough for me to compromise for. In summary, I find the food to be only slightly above average. Even if the food does live up to it's reputation the service here will usually ruin the experience. So we won't be rushing to go back anytime soon. Recommended dishes if you do visit: Vietnamese cold roll combination platter, fried quails and the coconut drink.
Coffee Beans
Food was good but I did notice portion size is a lot smaller then before. Which I wasn't too fussed about as I understand everything goes up in price with living expenses and sky rocketing taxes etc.. My friends and I found the service is very poor when they are busy.. If a popular place knows they are busy they should just hire more staff on. They got our order mixed up which caused us having to wait even longer. Won't be coming back any time soon.

Been visiting Vietnam for the last few years. Delicious pho for lunch and very reasonable prices. But took my partner Ali there for valentines day dinner and it was excellent. $30 for one of the banquets which is a bargain. Their famous quails, roll your own cold rolls, combination rice hot pot, salt and pepper prawns and sweet onion chicken cooked on the bone. All delicious and we couldn't finish it all despite my epic appetite. Highly recommended
Naban
One of the best authentic Vietnamese restaurant I've been in the area ...friendly
Staff good menu had cold rolls (which make yourself at table) which I thought was a good idea ,I always try the Vietnamese Coffee ☕ soo sweet 😁 ,quails are worth trying aswell
Ali
My first experience of Vietnam Restaurant was for Valentine's Day dinner with my partner. We were seated near a wall littered with framed news articles and accolades awarded to the restaurant over it's past 31 impressive years of operation. It didn't take us long to discover why this restaurant has been operating nearly as many years as my partner and I have been gracing the Earth. We had the V2 banquet, $29 pp. First up, BBQ quail. The lemongrass chilli flavours in the quail were fantastic, I only wish it was big bird I was eating, not a little quail, but granted, there was actually a decent amount of meat on those little suckers. Next, we ordered a serve of Vietnamese spring rolls (because I saw them being delivered to another table and couldn't help myself); although tasty pieces of heaven, this was clearly a rookie move on my part from a stomach space conservation perspective. Next was the cold rolls with pork skewers which were delicious, followed by the salt n pepper king prawns, hot pot main and chicken main. We are not ones to shy away from a decent sized feed, but by the time the mains came to our table we were holding a white flag in the form of two takeaway containers. The amount of food garnished for $29 pp was a bargain. The staff were very attentive and the food just kept on coming with minimal wait time, despite a busy service. Will visit again soon, but next time I'll just stick to ordering a main...and maybe an entree. And another spring roll 😉

Had a last minute idea to eat here on a Wednesday night. Didn't make a booking so had to wait for a table. No issue with that. Seated at the time they stated they would and prompt drink food orders taken. Ordered the 2 person banquet (version 2). The food was beautiful. Quail, Pork Cold Roll, Mixed Hot Pot Rice, Soy Crispy Chicken and Prawns. Plenty of food $29.50 each! Will be back, and ensure we book! ☺
Deb
Excellent food with chilli dishes having a good kick. All dishes were delicious for our table of four. Service very good too. Very generous serving sizes for very reasonable prices. We did BYO wine but they do serve wine and beer. VERY VERY popular. We had a booking for 6:30pm and from then on there was a wait for everyone who followed. Make the effort - it's worth it. Some open windows would be good on a warm night.

Dine here last Saturday and the service was so bad. We booked a table at 7 a week in advanced but table was currently being used when we got there and no one apologized. We left and went to the Chinese restaurant 2 mins up the road. the waitress there greeted as at the door promptly and the service was great. We got to know the waitress on a personal level. The food was fantastic and fresh. The food came out fast and we didn't have too long. It tasted just as good as Vietnam for half the price!!!!!!!!!!!!

As part of our trip to Adelaide, we were recommended to visit one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in town - aptly known as Vietnam restaurant. Interestingly, this restaurant wasn't located in the well known inner city foodie streets such as Gouger or Peel, but a 20 minute drive towards Port Adelaide. Basically located on a suburban street, parking is easy to find in the adjacent side streets.

What to say?
Rude service, cheap quality viet food, they just put pressure on you to finish and have you out for next seating.
Personally never again
Melissa M
Very poor service on the Saturday night we went. Had a booking for 7.30 and had to wait outside (in the freezing cold) until 8 before we were seated, without any apology for the wait/inconvenience. Then when we were finally seated and about to order, we were asked to move tables. Food was good but experience let down by the service. Definitely won't return on a Saturday night.
J.YeePP
This is one of the most popular and well known Vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide. It has been always the pick from the crowd so please make sure you secure your booking early especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Menu hasn't really change in all these years - serving traditional authentic Vietnamese food which is what I like. Food service is fast and good. Couple of must try dishes are quails, make your own roll with crispy pork and the hot pot chicken rice. The sauce for making your own rolls has an additional cost now if you want to top up which I think it's slightly ridiculous, it cost $2 for about half a bowl (staff stated that's one serve). The service the staffs provide there can be here and there. Some are good and some are just really arrogant. I might just do takeaway next time instead of dining in. Beverages - If you can tolerate caffeine, have the Vietnamese coffee which is brew to perfection. They also serve coconut juice but sometimes it is served while it is still frozen. Overall not too bad, services from staffs has a big margin of improvement.
Onegreedygirl
There is a LOT on the menu here, including a few nice vego options. The Char kway teow is certainly a standout.

It's not as world-rockingly good as I was lead to believe, but still very good and a nice surprise on Addison Rd.

Beware, it gets real busy so book and then eat quickly, lest you be swept out the door by some lovely young staff who are obviously under the pump to get people in and out ASAP. Not a place for dawdlers.
Indrajit Majumder
When I think about Vietnamese food, this place comes to my mind first. Everytime I have visited this place, they have amazed me with their food, with their hospitality and warmth. Just a bit of advice for those who don't know yet, if you are planning to go there, DO NOT even think about rocking up without making a reservation. Yes, even in a Tuesday evening- otherwise you will be really disappointed.
My all time favourites over there are- Char-grilled Quail, Soft Shell crab and oh yes! The DIY rolls. Make your own rolls and show off your mates who's the master in making the best roll in the table.
Also, don't miss out the fresh seafood salad- you won't get any fresher anywhere else with the secret dressing that lifts the salad in a different height.
Everytime I have been there I have ordered so many amazing entrees that I couldn't get a chance to order mains. Well, it all about exploration and I guess, I will get there soon :)

Been here a few times, never found anything to be raved on other than expensive. All i like is that BBQ quails were well-seasoned. It's always a packed & busy restaurant but I'm surprised that they haven't worked out the busy period to increase staffing after all these years. We went in a group of 7 for dinner. The staff was really good at promoting the dishes but hardly paid any attention after. None of them offered us any drink or even water. When they do, they brought us 5 glasses and never came back for another 2. I had to bring the jug to the bar for refill and asked for extra glasses. Then they forgot to bring us the rice and rice papers, needing me to remind them twice. When the rice came, we're halfway through the mains and hardly touched the rice after. The vege dish came out and it was ridiculously small dish, like it was served for 2-3 people.

Bbq quail is a winner. And the combination steamboat. Haven't had a dish here I haven't liked. Very well priced. Very busy and noisy. Dont go here if you're with family / more than 4 people and want a decent chat.
MalaysianFoodie
I used to love this place. Not anymore. I bought their signature dishes takeaway. When I got home, and started dishing out the food, the food smelt so bad. Like old rags. I thought this can't be, and we had it anyways. We had the worst food poisoning ever. I am never going back there again.

So with all the hype about this restaurant I had to come in and try it, firstly we were sat down at our table (it was an extremely) busy night .
Got our menus about 10 minutes later.. For drinks we ordered the coconut that was very nice and tasty..
Ok so for entree we ordered the famous quail (how could we not) and the Vietnam crisp parcels. For main the Wonton soup, Seafood rice hot pot and Pippies (clams) with vermicelli noodles.
As we were waiting for our entree the clams come out. We tell the waitress that we haven't got our entrees yet. The manager tells across the room NO THAT IS ENTREE. Then she came across and explained to us it is recommended that we get that first. Jeez would of been nice to know that before hand.. Anyways it wasn't what we were expecting. It was like a basket made out of crispy noodles with the clams in it. Was expecting it to be a noodle stir fry, for $26 wasn't expecting that. I have attached a photo of what it looks like.

So when we finished that the crisp parcels came out. They were nice. Then half an hour later came out the quail.. The quail was very nice and spicy I can see why it's so famous here. It had lots of flavor and spice. The table behind us ordered the quail as well but 15 min after we ordered. But they got there's first. Quite annoying.

About 20 min later came out our mains. The seafood rice hotpot was barely any seafood. It had a few shrimps in there, baby squid and jellyfish I think. Definitely not worth getting again.

The wonton was nice although I didn't get a soup spoon about halfway when I was finished. The wonton in the soup was made from processed pork meat. But the soup was nice with lots of flavor.

It was hard to get anyone's attention when it was busy, although when we did I would like to give a special mention to Amy and Brenden. They were the highlight of our night, not so much the old lady Linda. By god she is the most miserable woman I've seen in my whole entire life.!!

Wasn't to impressed with out visit here. Definitely won't be returning

Felt like like going to a servo where they like too 'upsell' when paying for fuel. Ordered a large pho to share for three...out came three serves. Asked for a serve of quail and put came a gaggle of nine pieces. No water to wash our fingers or to drink. Waitress' not contrite and wanted to charge for 3takeaway containers. Felt like a once icon on a downward spiral.

It has been a dogs age since I last visited this restaurant. Nothing has changed, excellent food & great service. The restaurant was only half full for lunch which made a change from the Sunday lunch trade, which is usually bustling & noisy. Will definitely be back. Perhaps the mud crab will be available next time.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED!

SERVICE – Needs improving!

We have been many times and enjoyed it, but last week was the last time.

We booked, arrived early, and they sat us beside the door, it was a pretty cold night and we asked if we could sit further in, "no sorry, these tables are booked". No one was there yet but they wouldn't let us move, not sure if when booking a table you can actually reserve a specific table! I asked for a bottle of tap water, she brought out an opened bottle of water in a plastic container, I didn't realise it was mineral water, however they charged me $6 for this, a small bottle of plain water, I told them I only wanted tap water, the waitress hardly understood me and said "sorry, must be mix up", but still charged me.

THE FOOD - not impressed! - Large fried rice was only 2 cups, no exaggeration! It was the smallest serving, unless they stuffed up our order again, and gave us a small serve instead, but like the water, they charge us for a large rice! Mixed vegetables, again very small portion and no flavour. We wanted prawns and the waitress told us 'you should try our special, prawns stuffed in squid". Well we tried her recommendation and what a regret. It was gross, tasted too fishy, pungent and cold, with the heads and tails on and bits of shell throughout the food. We love seafood but this was not great.

Not sure if there is new chef but our table will not go back, it was just disappointing, service was not great and they charge you for things you didn't order. There are so many better Vietnamese restaurants around the place. Yes they may have won many awards years ago, but things change and this place certainly has. I dislike being so negative, but it was a really disappointing dinner. Not going back!

Anyone visiting Adelaide needs to put this restaurant on their list of go-to places. Their popular dishes are the bbq quail, seafood salad and prawn and pork cold rolls. So good.

The only good thing is the food. Expensive, cramped tables and a rushed experience with staff eager for a quick turnover of diners. Typical busy Saturday night
Cheeky Diner
As far as the food goes, this place is well worth the trip out to Pennington. One of the best Vietnamese restaurant's in Adelaide. The Quail, pork skewers and hot pot deserve special mentions. This place however is very very busy, so not exactly conducive for a relaxing atmosphere. The last time I was there with three others, while the food was great and serving lady nice. We did feel cramped and rushed to leave, so other awaiting diners could take our place. Ok for a informal evening for two. Not a place to go in a large group. Booking is essential.

The Vietnam Restaurant is well worth the trip out to Pennington. The banquet with bbq quail, pork ball cold rolls and hot pot is what brings me back time after time. Make sure you book as this place is full every night of the week.

Vietnam Restaurant.....way too crowded.. Just TOO crowded. We were 11 and a high chair crammed around a table fit for 8 at the most. Crammed against a wall, no air con, certainly not an enjoyable meal. We were not sharing main courses yet the main meals came out bit by bit. I would suggest not to go there in a big group...though 11 is not a big group. Such a shame because the food was pretty good.

Yeah. Live just around the corner and I'm sad to see vietnam go slowly downhill over the last 5 years ...

Used to love going for the quality food, now it's over priced and nothing special...

Really hope they pick up their game again and get back to the glory days! Until then it's Viet hoa and nnq for us.
Darren.robinson10
6 of us had the $60 banquet. It was a coagulated mess. There was some sort of processed meat that was supposed to be pork spare ribs. The lobster dish was disgusting and there was a couple of other dishes that were bland and indescribable. The bill was $500. The meal was less than $50 in quality. Sorry credit where due the quail was nice, although it was close to over cooked and the staff very nice.

THE FOOD DISGUSTING.

Good service, average food but fun experience. Ordered entree of make-your-own rice paper rolls, bbq quail, mains of soft shell crab, roast pork, sizzling steak and clay pot rice. Fun experience for the kids to roll their own rolls, however food was rather average Vietnamese. Service very good for an Asian restaurant!
Ralph
Great. Have been going for over 20 years, food and service great, just a little noisy if anything.
Miriam Wallman
It pains me to post a negative review about this acclaimed restaurant but for the second time in as many months we have been served substandard takeaway from an establishment around the corner from our house. Cold soup and dry chicken is just not on for the self proclaimed gold standard of vietnamese cuisine in Adelaide. Pick up your game people or get out of the business
Tonytrannnn
The greatest vietnamese cuisine. Out of all the vietnamese resturaunts i have been to, i felt welcomed by the staff and lived the food.
Tommo23
Best vietnamese food!!. Been here a few times, best is sitting outside in summer. Food and service is excellent. Awesome quail and soft shell crab. Also get the cold rolls and steam boat.
Ymmas
Grilled quail. I came here for the quail, which was perfectly grilled and full of flavour. Bad service, our coconut juice took an hour to perpare. Staff never refill the tea pot, we had to ask serveral time. I also ordered hot and sour soup which was full of MSG, I had to drink lots of water after the meal. I took two hours to finish the meal, as the dishes came out so slow. For this price, I could get better food and service at the other vietnamese restaurant.
Julz
The food tasted great, service was good. But for the price - ridiculous for Vietnamese food. Can get the same quality of food for a fraction of what this restaurant charges. Give it a go, but don't forget your credit card.

Up-selling the food?. My wife and I invite friends from different backgrounds to celebrate an asian dinner night here. We ordered some vietnamese rolls and other main dishes and it was quite enough food considering the number of people. When we ordered the food, the waitress kept asking whether we needed more dishes. We said that we were fine. She flipped the menu book and indicated another side dishes that we really did not need. Again we said that we were good. Lastly she sighed a bit and asked us weather we needed any entrees.

WHAT WAS THAT?

Are we supposed to order the foods that we really did not intend to have? We ordered quite enough food for dinner. Additionally asking for the additional foods for three time seemed like quiet rude and my wife and I were embarrassed in front of my friends.

Lastly when we paid for the bill, the casher did not ask us whether we had a good time and even worse, she threw the coin on my hand without saying a simple word of 'thank you'. I was trying to say something but I did not have time to say a word as she turned her back quickly to do something.

I have never been treated like this before in any of vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide. It was the worse memory I have this year and I will never drive for that restaurant to taste the vietnamese. There are several place to have the vietnamese with my hard earned money. Shame on you who treated us like that.

Booking beware?. We decided to book 3 weeks ahead for a large group of 17 for two large round tables away from the front door on a Saturday. Our booking was first in the book. We arrived on the night and our tables were not available, they put others over our booking. A joke! We left in disgust. It was no point in making the booking in the first place if they cannot guarantee appropriate seating.

Most disgusting asian takeway food we have ever had. Have been driving past this restaurant for years, is always packed with people, have always thought of visiting but never had the idle time, thought takeaway might be an option so we tried it tonight 14th September .
After reading reviews on this site i felt a tad uneasy but kept thinking all those people sitting in there it cant be that bad, well guess what they where right ,the most disgusting Asian takeaway food that we as a family have ever tasted and we like a lot of people respect Asian food, i'm so stunned at the lack a quality and the presentation of the food for a restaurant of this supposed quality, for a $95 dollar order for three adults it deserved more, i should have gone to my local on Fletcher road at Largs Bay for a far superior meal at half the cost Never Ever again i am now taking the meal back just to give them and the manager the opportunity to throw their food in their garbage bin where it belongs.

Flocky. Great food serving the best food from Vietnam in Adelaide, try the cold rolls, quail and sizzling steak all fantastic.

We have been going there for years and have never been disappointed, be sure to book ahead and expect a busy restaurant.

Great food. The food is great here. Highly recommend the quail and soft shell crab! A very busy place but we feel this adds to the experience, make sure to book ahead!
Nina
Great food! Quail is superb. Rice hot pot is amazing too. Lots of great things to choose. Tasty tasty tasty. Yes the restaurant is busy... But do you want to eat in a place that is empty?? Can't wait to go back again ....!
Stella
Although the decor is outdated you won't care once the food comes to the table. Loved everything we ordered from the young coconut juice, the rice hotpot, salt and pepper eggplant and scallops - everything was delicious! Definitely worth a visit or more!
Alyy Bama
Average. We went here about a year ago and from what I can remember the food was alright, but as a dining experience I do not recommend! As you can tell when you drive past its always very very busy. You cant walk or talk to each other without yelling. We also had the table next to the kitchen door which was annoying and when I asked if they could put a doorstopper to keep the door from swinging constantly, I got a reply of 'NO' and they walked away. Service was also slow. Recommended for take away only!!
Wendy Northey-Birks
The service was amazing but I thought the food was more like Chinese take away food.

Still excellent after 25 years. I have been eating at Vietnam for over 25 years and it is my favourite Adelaide restaurant.
After several years away I booked a table to return.
Having read some of the bad reviews on these pages I was worried that it had dropped standard
I am happy to say that it is still excellent in both food and service
It is a very popular and busy spot so expect hustle and bustle, but the staff were excellent, efficient, attentive and very friendly
It is still my favourite restaurant in Adelaide
Do yourself a favour and judge it for yourself
Danielle Christine
Made a booking for this evening, had to wait 10minutes until a table became available. Packed restaurant, very popular until late. Service is 'get em in, get em out' but can't fault the food! Amazing pork and beef dishes, definitely go the gourmet fried rice! Little gem in the western suburbs.

BUYER BEWARE TERRIBLE!. I was very excited to try this Vietnamese restaurant given the awards it has received and the place being packed. But honestly it was the worst Vietnamese take away experience I've ever had. To start with I asked specifically for no nuts, but sure enough when I arrive home, there are NUTS! Lucky for them I'm not allergic eh? I ordered my favorite take away dish Bun Bo Xao, it was practically inedible. Its a beef noodle salad, that I couldn't stomach the beef in. It was gelatinous and thick, rather than the marinated thinly shaved beef it should be traditionally. And to top it off, in order to reach the necessary $20 eftpos minimum I asked for a bag of prawn chips and a 300ml bottle of coke. The price suddenly jumped $8. $5.20 for a 300ml coke!!! HIghway robbery...so dissapointed,,,I really wanted to love this place, lucky I have some prawn chips to eat tonight because I certainly can't eat the main meal. Ripped off!
Peter
A pleasant experience. We went there today's lunch for the first time and it was busy. However, service was nice, staffs were friendly and very helpful. He helped us ordering some of the restaurant's signature dishes and they were yummy! I did read some of the reviews but found the lady behind the counter was polite and friendly. Will definitely be back soon.

I should have listened to the last few poor reviews. I made the mistake of going there despite the poor reviews and wasted mine and my friends' money on an unpleasant Saturday lunch experience all thanks to the bland food, rude front manager and uninterested floor staff member. Being a front manager also does not give you the right to raise your voice at a customer because you got an order wrong. Your trade is hospitality, so learn it. The trainee staff were the nicer part of the dining experience. I am sorry "Vietnam" , but you really should do your business a favour and take a leaf out of NNQ's and Pho Baria 2's ( on Hanson road) book on running a great restaurant business. Will not be back.

Workplace party. I am very disappointed with the resturant frontline managment, the staff were good, chef was reasonable but the rudness and aggressive behaviour of the front manager has made my decision to exercise never going to the resturant again, this was also the opinion of my collegues as well. We did not have the choice to pay individually causing her to become the workplace bully towards us as very high paying customers. Very disgruntled customer

Poor service, cramped and rude~!. Went with work group, poor service, no room to eat, rude staff and manager. Will not return. shame

Bit out of the way if you don't live in the area but definitely worth the drive. Customer service was flawless! The food was delicious and we particularly enjoyed the DIY cold rolls. The meals were reasonably priced and seriously make a booking this place was packed out. Just shows how far delicious food and great customer service gets you. Definitely recommend!

Not perfect, but we keep coming back. Been here many times over the last 16 years. What they do well is the benchmark for Vietnamese food- BBQ quails, roll your own cold rolls with sugar cane prawns and Pork balls, Claypot rice, sorry can't remember correct name. Anytime I've strayed off the menu, even on the same day as the yummy regular stuff eg seafood salad - bland, seafood noodles - tough squid, I've been disappointed. Going there again with my folks tonight, stick to the signature dishes! Friendly but harried wait staff, always crowded and tables too small, yet my family find fault with the other Vietnamese places we go to, so we'll be back, despite the criticisms.
Nganlam0707
Seriously if you think this restaurant offers the best vietnamese food in town... please do think again! To me they are only average! The menu is a bit more chinese/thai! Not so authentic! Nothing special bout this restaurant
Kitty
Bland and tasteless. I can't get over how bad this meal was, I ordered take away steak and black bean, it was so tasteless and bland I had to add hoisin sauce to it. uhg total waste of money and time.
Joy
Shockingly bad. I have been dining at Vietnam since it opened in the 80's. it used to be wonderful food fesh, tasty and cheap. Not now! The standard of the food has dropped through the floor while the prices are continuing to rise. The cold rolls are rubbery, the dipping sauce bland and the soup like dishwater. The female staff member who served me tonight for a take away was ignorant and rude. Out of nostalgia I have continued to dine there but tonight was the last. Goodbye Vietnam .
Q
Despite my vote, I have mixed feelings for this restaurant. Its ALWAYS packed first & foremost and you WILL be rushed. The arrangement of the table tells you abit about how they run the business. Everyone is crammed in & there is barely any room to move. As for the food, I personally enjoy their "entrees", which is all I order. Vietnamese rolls (pork ball or prawn), seafood salad, roasted pigeon & their steamed scallops! Don't really fancy their other mains although they're not too bad. So if you don't mind being cramped and having a rushed meal, have a go at the dishes I've mentioned above.
Sludin
Was served 2 wrong dishes and then charged for them too and when confronted about it, they made us pay for the dishes though they wrote it down wrong and said that was what we ordered. We did not eat 1 of the dishes too as I have food allergies. Difference was only $2.60 and we were poorly served after the confrontation and made our dinner experience a night to not remember. Food was still good even with the mixup.

Slow service dampened the mood. Serving sizes are smaller than the average chinese/vietnamese restaurants. Food is nice and authentic. Staff are friendly, however the restaurant gets so busy that service lacks tremendously. Food takes a very long time to come out. My partner and I ordered 2 mains and got them one after the other (so we were basically eating 1 main at a time). We asked for the bill which took 30 mins (whilst we asked 3 different waiters), only to end up being asked to come to the front to pay (and they even asked us what we ate so they could find our bill). Very slow and disorganised. A packed night shouldn't be an excuse for slow service. Half an hour to get our bill... really?
Jessamy
After 10 years....still love it. You don't go for the ambience or even the service.....you go for the food. It's squishy, rushed and noisy, but despite this it has as special atmosphere of it's own. I am lucky enough to live only a 10min drive away, so it is one of my favourite take always.
The sugar cane skewered mince prawns are consistently fabulous. The serves are generous and quality always high. Their salads are divine and Thehot pots are filling and flavoursome.

Being a fame of Vietnamese food I have dined at many restaurants around Adelaide...I always come back to Vietnam.

Good Quality, very busy restaurant.. Been there twice in one week recently. Very busy, we were lucky to get a table for 6 on a week night without booking. Food were good as always. Paid $120 including sweet & sour chicken soup, soft shell crabs, hot pot rice, half a dozen oysters (not my taste), large rice roll with combinations of pork & sugar cane prawn, excellent value I'd say. Will be back again.

One hour wait. We go to Vietnam Restaurant a few times a year and its one of our favourite eats, when we have family down from overseas it's usually to this place.
Service is usually great with some fantastic food. However our last visit was unacceptable. We sat down for dinner to a half full restaurant, ordered our food and 35 minutes later still no food. We then asked several staff to check the kitchen to see what the hold up is. They would then walk away to take a look and we would not hear back with an update. 15 to 20 minutes later we got sick of waiting and walked out.
I had a talk with one of the staff on the way out who seemed apologetic however this is still unacceptable.
I can understand that sometimes there are mistakes made in hospitality however how the situation was dealt with when we asked what's going on with the wait is not acceptable.
I will try this place again as we have had good experiences in the past however the last experience justified a bad review.

Good food, appalling service. I've been to Vietnam quite a few times and am always happy with the food. It's fresh, flavoursome and generally consistent. However, the service is terrible. They either need to hire some more waiters or decrease the amount of tables they have in their space. Every time I've been there we have had to ask more than twice for some items e.g. the hot water and rice paper for the namneung, or a drink and even the bill. One time our table had to wait almost half an hour for the bill despite asking for it repeatedly. We were near the counter and were watching the lady give various other customers the bill first since they came up to the counter.

Food looks and tastes like food in Vietnam. Always excellent.
If you don't like it probably stick to fasta pasta and KFC, it's probably more your scene.
Nuggie123
Undecided.. My partner and i visited Vietnam with very high expectations. Every one had talked it up and said that this was the best in town! I have to say i am a little undecided as to whether i liked it or not. The service was great, a little squishy inside which was okay, and the food came out quickly. I have to say i didnt love the selection of food - i dont know whether it was our bad choices or not? I do want to go back, try new dishes and give this place another go.

The best of Vietnamese. Went to the Vietnam last year & enjoyed the couple of dishes we shared. The decour is a bit dated & could do with a refresh but the service & staff were polite. We had some pawn cold rolls to start with which were delicious with the dipping sauce. We had a combination soup to share & that was pretty tastey & hot which I like in my meals. For our main we had peppered king prawns and pork hot pot, again very hot & the highlight of our meal, absolutely amazing flavours. I plan on heading back very soon.

Worst experience. Went to this restaurant with my partners family who came over from Hong Kong, wanted to treat them to what was supposed to be a nice and friendly restaurant. Instead even when booking the table, were spoken to very rudely and as if we were bothering them by even calling.

Upon arrival, we find out that the table we had booked was given to somebody else and we had to sit on another table that was small and in a very uncomfortable area. After placing the order, we requested some water and tea for the table, after about 10 minutes nothing had come so we requested it again and was told it would be organised, this repeated in total 4 times before we finally received what we requested.

Overall a terrible experience and will NEVER visit this place again. Never have I seen service this rude before.
Tony
Great food, great service. Recommend booking ahead to guarantee a table. The pork skewers or prawn skewers is my favourite dish. The owner came over as a refugee with nothing after the Vietnam War and has worked hard to keep his restaurant one of the best in SA. This family deserves our business not only for this reason but because of their good food and service too.
Master Diner
Superb! Service was personal and particular. Peter took his time (despite having a busy restaurant) to go through the finer details of making a cold roll. Food was fresh and plentiful. The wine list was unusually comprehensive for this style of restaurant. It's a reassuring sign to see the locals coming in, in droves. We would absolutely not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return. Tip for next time - book - we were very lucky to get a table.
Little Red-Haired Girl
Best Shared. I went with some friends who opted to order individual meals. I ordered the Sizzling Steak which came with cold roll materials. It was nice but after the fifth self-made cold roll I was a bit bored. I definitely think that a banquet or individual meals to share with a group is the way to go.

We had the quails to start and while they were great, they were messy to eat. I don't recommend if you don't like using your hands to eat your food.

Consistently awesome.... Having been to the Vietnam over a number of years, it was time to write review. What can one say but that this place is CONSISTENTLY brilliant with its food. That it is pretty much full every night of the week says something about its popularity.

I only ever order its signature dishes of prawn and pork balls, warm seafood salad, hot pot combination rice, quail and soft shell crab. Other items on the menu can be had elsewhere. No other Vietnamese restaurant can touch these guys on their signature dishes.
Riggsy
A deserved reputation. Went for lunch with my Vietnamese colleague, which is always handy for ordering. Had a great meal but making those cold rolls is harder than it looks! His "expert" opinion is that the style is only slightly westernized traditional Vietnamese cooking and was very happy (he is quite fussy). We all thought that the food and service certainly lived up to the reputation - and good value as well.

What Happened?. Somethings changed, wether it's the cook or the ingredients it's not as good as it was.
Went there for lunch and most of the dishes were overcooked or reheated in a microwave.
Previously went there 3 months back and all was great.
Need to get that fresh, great taste back in the kithchen and redo the decore.
Happy Mama
Over rated?. It was ok. i guess back in the 80s there weren't so many dining choices but fast forward to now and we're spoilt for choice in this (and most) cuisines so it really didn't live up to its reputation for me. It was certainly ok and decent enough but there's better closer to home.

Should have gone last week. Arrived with excitement having heard good reviews .Stuck outside on a hot night with warm water and lack lustre service.Salads were warm and overpowered by excess lemon grass and tasted the same. mains were bland .Night
ended poorly following argument over the drinks bill ....$8 a bottle for warm tap water served in a mineral water bottle...I dont think so ! Must have been good once ....manager needs to work for a phone company not a restaurant.

Best Quails. The tastiest quails ever... finger licking good.

Great food. Delicious Vietnamese food at reasonable prices. The sugar cane skewered king prawns were the highlight of the meal. Highly recommended.

I just been there recently 10 July and the menu has changed also the price gone up . I had sugarcane prawn and noodle soup . I had it many times when we were here. Surprisingly only few tables not as busy as we used to see. After we had the food and left for a few hours. I was so thirsty with dry mouth, I guess they put too much MSG in the food. Although I had Asia cuisine before but I considered this over MSG . I was glad I only had two dishes. I may need to look for new one.

Tasty special dishes. Whenever we come here, we always order their specialties - quails, cold rolls (prawn skewers or pork) and seafood salad - which are done fresh and very well. We always recommend these dishes to our guests. Their other dishes are otherwise standard Vietnamese/Chinese fare you could find in any Asian restaurants.
World In A Bite
The food was yummy especially nam neung! The service was ok. The staff kept giving us the bill pretending to ask if we asked for the bill -_-

The reputation of this restaurant has exceeded its food quality. Foods are below average and decor is barely minimum or non-existent. Service is bad and unprofessional. I hope they will fix those problems before customers start leaving.

Let's get two things out of the way: 1) The Viet food here is GREAT & 2) Do not order from the Chinese side of the menu. As much as it pains me to say this, it is only a little better than what you would get in a food court.

Okay now that we've got that out of the way lets discuss service. Do not go here if you 1) want to leisurely sit and enjoy your meal or 2) have a problem with waiting to be seated. My dinning group of 5 were left to wait outside in the cold and spitting rain for close to 45 minutes before we were shown to a table. Admittedly we were 15 minutes early on our booking but it didn't help that other patrons who had been waiting for less were shown in before us. Once you're seated though, the table service is speedy and attentive. This may seem like a quite a change of manners after your curt waiting experience but I guess this is what you have to accept when you go to a long established and renowned eatery. My suggestion if you are planning on going here is to have one person come early for the wait and tell the rest of your party to come 15-30 minutes later. It appears to be what the regulars do. Alternatively get the earliest booking of the night then you won't have to wait. Unfortunately like some other popular restaurants in Adelaide, the waiting and ambience situation is never going to get any better. Particularly with Asian eateries, they will be too paranoid of affecting the Feng Shui of a place to update it. My party found the food worth the wait, but I understand it may be a deal breaker for others. Particularly the hungry!

Vietnam had me at the rare beef salad. Vietnam was packed so we knew we were in for some good food. The cold rolls were delicious but the rare beef salad was amazing - a huge pile of tender beef, bean sprouts and coriander leaves - it was fresh and crunchy with a perfectly balanced dressing. The beef pho was excellent as was the fish and pork hotpot (weird combo but worked well). Without thinking I ordered a "white coffee" and ended up with a cup of Nescafe or something similar - I should have checked that they had an expresso machine and when they didn't I should have gone for a Vietnamese coffee - will know for next time! Even though it was busy the service was fine - we were looked after and food was out in a reasonable manner.

Location location location.... I know people rave about this joint as being one of Adelaide's "hidden secrets", and hey, it was alright, but certainly not worth a subtstantial drive for me, into Adelaide's blessed Heroin Heartlands.
The place is PACKED on a weeknight, so fortunately we had booked a week in advance, and I doubt that you could expect to get in without a booking. The make-your-own cold rolls were a lovely bit of gimmiky fun and the manufacturing process was enjoyed by all. As was the eating of same. As for th other meals, definitely have had better quail, soft shell crab and duck elsewhere. Pretty cheap though...we had a mountain of food for $35 per head inc booze. Staff were plesant and helpful, despite being rushed of their feet. I liked it, but there is no return trip envisaged.

My family's favourite. Can't believe my family and I have only discovered this wonderful gem. We love Vietnamese food and have been too many but Vietnam is now our favourite place to eat. The food is just amazing, the kids love going there and the service is great. The menu is overwhelming at first but thank you to the wonderful staff and Manager Ben for looking after us so well. Will be bringing all our friends there so they can try the best Cold rolls, quails and Soft shell crabs in the world. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
Ilovegoodfood
Good food always.... Everyone raves on about how great the make-your-own cold rolls are, and yes, it is worth raving on about. If you dine here, it is a must try. Their noodle soups are good and pretty much everything I've tried here is good. It is always busy so make sure you make a booking to avoid disappointment.

Great food always worth the long at times wait. The cold rolls, the soft shell crab and the BBQ quail are awesome!

Went here for the first time last night and had a great meal with the exception of a few tiny things. We ordered 3 mains from the special menu after ordering 2 entrees and asked whether it was too much, and the waitress said she always orders heaps. Little did we know we had ordered a whole deep fried fish, deep fried egg plant and soft shell crab, also deep fried. We just hadn't expected everything to be deep fried or a whole fish to be presented. Although, we did eat most of the food as it tasted great. Finally, the bill was a slight shock, which was probably our fault for not enquiring about the specials prices before ordering. But the specials were considerably more than the regular menu - up to $37, for the fish, and $30 for the crab. All in all, it was a good meal and we're keen to go back and try something that isn't deep fried from the normal menu. The entrees of quail and the prawn cold rolls are knockouts!

Nice food and very good service. My family and I came here last Sunday afternoon and I must say we had a very good time on Father's Day. Food was very nice but what I remember most was the service and a waiter named Daniel. He took a really good care of us from the beginning to the end with a big smile. When the restaurant was busy, he still delivered everything we asked with smile and even talked to us a little bit with a sense of humour. Thank you Vietnam restaurant for giving us a memorable Father's Day and we will definitely come back.

Totally agreed with the others about the service. Before I write my review, I read the recent ones. Well, not surprising that I am not the only one to feel the service is not up to standard. We had lunch there on a Sat afternoon. There were 4-5 tables. However, we felt pressured to order rather than to be served. Since it's lunch, we didnt want to order lots of food. We ordered one main and one starter and 2 young coconut juice for 2 adults and 1 child to share. The waiter straight away said "it's not enough food for you". We said "we will see how it goes". He still said it's not enough. What's the point?!!! We are the customers. We know how much we can eat and DO NOT want to waste food. We liked our food - the quails, the cold rolls and the young coconut juice BUT definitely not the service. We saw the owner talking to some customers. Obviously, he still cares. In that case, they'd better "re-train" the staff or hire new ones. Otherwise they are sending their customers away!!!

Had lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Three of us ordered from the lunch menu. A good ten minutes between each of the three meals being delivered. After the second lunch was delivered a staff member asked us how our lunch was, we said it'd be good if we all had it. Food was pretty bland and boring. Everything tasted overpoweringly of lemon grass. Upon going to pay the bill was told it was $60. After questioning the amount ($9 lunch specials x 3, drinks $5 x 3) was informed that one of the dishes had been served as a main size not a lunch size. All had come on the same size plates & looked similar to us. So because we had eaten it we had to pay for it even though it was their mistake. How ridiculous. Average, over priced food. Sounds like it used to be good, but obviously not anymore.

Bad service, told them that I was allergic to prawns, my dish came out with them in it. When staff were told, took plate away and returned in 5 mintues. I started to eat and under the top cm's of my dish there was prawns. They must have hand picked the top prawns off and returned it to me. Luckly I was ok, But if they had done that with someone else who was highly allgeric, hospital trip here they come. When we confronted staff they didn't care and wasn't sorry at all

I don't get it.... The service here is really bad, the food is just ok and you're squeezed in like sardines. But most people like it...?
I feel like I'm on crazy pills!
Rogie
Great tasty dishes and quality food but very squishy premises. We ordered one of their awesome banquets. Recommend attending for Sunday lunch as it's less busy. Will go back again for more!

Saturday night fever. This was my first journey to Vietnam on a Saturday night and although my previous visits were faultless I have to say this night the service was terrible. The food was delicious as always but the order it arrived in was altered due to the kitchen running out of some items. Tables that arrived after us were served before us too.
We brought along 2 wines for the 4 of us to consume and it took half an hour for wine glasses to arrive at the table and they did not offer to refrigerate the other wine on a warm evening. The wines glasses were not changed for the second wine and corkage was $15 per bottle which in my view was a little steep in such a situation. We also had to ask for our main course plates to be removed. My advice is DO NOT go on a Saturday night. Needless to say my friends were bitterly disappointed.

Food was ok. not traditional viet food. also the price was a little crazy as they give small serves then lots of rice to fill you up. u end up at home hungry. better viet on Hanson rd.

Do I need a passport ?. No you don't cause it is right here in Adelaide. We were there at 05:30pm sitting ( one of 2 sittings for the evening ) and had to be out by 07:30pm. No problems , food came out thick and fast. This place is incredible, food delicious.
We had the usual golden standard meal as shown in the pics, only drawback - I think some of the food had MSG cause we came back feeling rather thirsty
Lemongrass
Original and the best. Quite simply it's the best vietnamese meal in SA. Go there and order: the quails, roll your own cold rolls with both pork balls and sugarcane prawn, the amazing seafood salad and salt and pepper eggplant. You will walk out already planning your next visit back. For a quick lunch just ask for the wonton soup. Be prepared to be amazed.

Just Fantastic!. We loved it

Yes it's crowded (that's a good sign right?) and the decor is old... get over it! You're here for fantastic Vietnamese food! And you will surely get it.

The real highlight for me was building our own cold rolls. We asked for a lot of advice, and were steered into some delicious directions. Thumbs up from me for the service.

Look forward to a return trip, we were very impressed.

Great!. Gotta agree with Sarah's review below - excellent food, not overly battered or greasy. Wicked meals, worth paying the extra for. Fantastically sweet/caffeinated vietnamese coffee to finish.

Man I Love this place!!! Best Asian food in Adelaide!!! Keep up the good work guys!

Just Incredible. After months of being hassled from friends that I should try this Vietnamese Restaurant down Addison Road, I decided to dine in at the Vietnam tonight, first time I've been here seeing that it is a bit out of the way but let me say it was worth the drive.
They insist I step out of the boundary of normal Asian cuisine and must try their specialties, My girlfriends and I decided to go with make your own cold rolls, bit of getting used to but was very delicious I must say and the quails are absolutely superb. Oh the soft shell crab was a delight with the rice in clay pot but I would of like to taste some sort of traditional desert though.
The service was extremely well considering it was very busy, Most enjoyable night, Will definitely be back soon!!

Really don't see what the fuss is about. Sure the food is acceptable but if you add in the non exisistant service, the fact you are sitting on top of each other..... It all adds up to a pretty ordinary night out

Pretty Good. Good food & good prices
Packed in like sardines so a bit uncomfortable

They offer both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes that everyone loves. A must have dish in this restaurant is the BBQ Quail, one of the Vietnam Restaurant’s signature dishes. Quail marinated in lemongrass and chilli and char grilled to perfection served with salt & pepper lemon dressing. It was sweet, salty, spicy (I don’t really like spicy food, but I don’t mind having this dish) and the aroma of char grilled makes it all perfect. Another signature dish of this restaurant is Sugar Cane Skewered Minced King Prawn. Hot

Vietnam Restaurant is another one of those places that doesn't need much of an introduction. Arguably one of Adelaide's best Vietnamese establishments, I'm ashamed of myself that it has taken this long to finally post a review to spread the good word. Since having kids, I usually get takeaway and rarely come here for a sit down meal, simply because eating the kind of food you are about to see below requires both hands, full concentration and the slower you are, someone else will surely snag the last meatball or delicious BBQ quails. Seriously, this is one of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide, not only because the food is second to none, but it is also amazingly priced for the amount of food you get.

We had stir fried beans with beef slices, slow cooked duck, fish in tamarind, and beancurd in Vietnamese tomato sauce (fave out of the lot!). We also ordered rice for 4, and was given enough rice to probably feed 6. The covered pot in the picture above was what the rice was served in… we were given 2 of those. I thought rice was going to start flowing out of my nose.

Overall, fast service, large portions although abit more expensive and a great place to bring large groups of people as most of the dishes have fairly generous helpings:)
The Hungry Excavator
The DIY rice paper rolls is a must. Fun to make, delicious to eat. Grilled quails is famous here but I prefer the one from Mabrown in Melbourne. A new thing we tried was the seafood salad, which was awesome!

What an amazing meal. Thank you Vietnam Restaurant for an amazing meal! It was definitely worth the travel.

Wall of awards, accolades and published articles Readers, I can finally say that I have now dined at the super popular and famous ‘Vietnam Restaurant’. The family owned business is a longstanding establishment of Vietnamese food in the western suburbs and has been running for almost 30 years (now that is a mean feat)!

I know it's a pretty sweeping statement given that I only visit for one week each year, but generally speaking I don't think much of the Asian restaurants in Adelaide. I tend to visit only the better known ones but even these are on the poor side, or at best mediocre. That's not to say there aren't any places that I like, and one thing these have in common is they tend to be popular but not the most popular places in Adelaide. The exception to this is Vietnam. Vietnam certainly is popular. We got there pretty early before most people arrived, but both seatings were booked out on the Sunday night we visited. While it seemed pretty cramped to me Hungry Pete indicated that on Saturdays they try to cram even more diners in. Hungry Pete and Ruby's young coconut juice was served in the shell, which was pretty cute. I on the other hand made the mistake of ordering the pineapple juice, which was obviously not fresh. In fact it was a pretty good example of a bad canned or bottled pineapple juic
