Review Louca's Seafood Restaurant - Adelaide

Either we’ve forgotten what it was like , or it’s under new management cause presentation of food seemed improved. Very helpful staff recommending combination of seafood platter cooked in various styles - it was not known when you first look at the menu. Only criticism…. Print on menu was so small !! Nice restaurant with a light modern almost Scandinavian feel. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was decent but not as punchy in flavours as I would have liked but overall very good

A very nice environment and extremely helpful and friendly staff, especially the young bloke, who knows absolutely everything about the food and the wine. The food was absolutely sublime! We had all the specials from the entrées - kingfish and oysters (natural and Kilpatrick) - to the two mains - flounder and flathead . Even the Greek salad had a special touch to it... it was delicious! The only downside was that the food eventually ended... haha Wish we lived closer!

Such delicious food, it has been two days and we can't stop talking about it! The atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice and the staff were very friendly. Looking forward to visiting again!

First time at Louca's. Seafood and meat platters were delicious and good value for money. The service was above satisfactory. Ambience and setting very comfortable. We would suggest food menus to be reprinted in larger print as colour and font both hard to read. Overall wonderful dining experience.

The seafood platter was cooked supremely. For a dining out experience it didn't have that wow factor though. Sauces for the dishes appeared to be out of a bottle from an average store. It was good, but lacked that next level for the price.

‘You get what you pay for’ truly applies at Louca’s. All 6 at our table could not fault any aspect of the dishes we were served and in good time after our orders were placed. The grilled KG whiting I had was simply magnificent! Similar sentiments were expressed by my family, too. Your staff were brilliant, too. Friendly, helpful and so professional. Guarantee we will be back on another special family occasion. Thanks!

The quality of the food is definitely worth the money. The calamari and prawns were fresh and cooked to perfection. Cindy was an amazing waiter as well and she helped us out a lot with recommendations. The place is busy however so book a table in advance.

Had dinner here in Feb 2017 and absolutely loved it! The starter of pita bread and trio of dips was the perfect way to start the night. The surf and turf platter for 2 was to die for! The smoky, grilled seafood melted in the mouth and the meat was cooked to perfection. There was nothing I could fault on the plate. Service was wonderful, all the staff were really lovely. Highly recommend this to all lovers of seafood and just all-around delicious food!

Excellent staff, excellent service but most of all excellent food. I have had barramundi in Darwin and thought that was the best until today when my barramundi steak special was to die for, absolutely melted in your mouth. Have to be the best seafood restaurant in town. Highly recommend going!

I really enjoyed my meal here this evening. Fabulous food, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. I would however recommend that the chef reconsiders the use of frozen chips on the menu. A menu of this quality deserves hand cut chips and using the mass produced variety does deter from the overall experience. I will be back, but will not have chips.

The only place for high quality seafood in the city. I would suggest sharing a seafood platter. They're generous and good value for money.
Christine Barnes
Great food, wine and lovely friendly efficient staff. If you love seafood I highly recommend it.

Best Seafood Restaurant in Adelaide. Sensational mouth watering food and wonderful service. Great place to impress your business clients.

Centrally located in the city with good parking. It is nice to have anther good seafood restaurant in Adelaide. Decor is nice and bright with lots of natural light. We had a wonderful prawn entree. Table service was okay.

Louca's serve really nice seafood dishes but they are pricey and service sometimes can be below the mark .... But they do make good seafood so if you're in the mood for seafood ..

Took the fam out for a seafood dinner during the week and were met with smiles and great hospitality as soon as we entered. Our waiter was great, not too overbearing but with the right amount of attention. We ordered the dips ( really nice pita bread) panko crumbed platter and chargrilled octopus. The dips were good, the platter slightly better than average with the octopus a let down. All in all a “pleasant” evening. Great service, ok food but a little on the expensive side.

Soooo busy on a Saturday night! We were seated at the bar and waited for about 30 mins for a free table. They gave us some complimentary garlic bread while we waited and kept apologising about the wait! <br/>When we were finally seated, and was ready to order we found out they had no oysters left!! The waitress quickly recommended the scallops they had on special -one was cooked with sage and butter while the other was a bacon crumbed. We ordered half a dozen each and was not disappointed! We also ordered the seafood chowder as an entree and the size of it was really big! Honestly after having the scallops and the seafood chowder I was full already! <br/>For mains I had the chargrilled scallops and calamari and my partner had the lamb fillet. The calamari was cooked to perfection! So much flavour and so tender! The only thing about it would be I’d appreciate if the salads were just a bit bigger in portion! My partner really enjoyed lamb as well. It was lovely cooked and pink. <br/>A Saturday night well spent! Also need to mention the waiters and waitresses very really friendly and attentive! <br/>Prices were acceptable so will return!

Louca's was the worst hospitality experience I've ever had. From the second we walked in and shown to our table there was a bad vibe from the staff, some of which were not adequately trained. We waited over an hour for 3 main courses and two orders came out different to what we had ordered. The serving and quality of food was quite average and over priced. When trying to explain our disappointment to the manager/ owner they turned a blind eye and rudely shrugged their shoulders implying there is nothing they could do and did not offer any apologies or admit room for improvement.

Arranging a Saturday night dinner out with the girls, found me (Amanda) making a booking at Louca's Seafood Restaurant.  I had not visited Louca's previously but from some google research, Louca's looked like a nice venue that offered just what we were looking for... simple seafood and meat dishes. With history in the seafood hospitality industry dating all the way back to 1853, when the Louca family opened The Parade Fish Cafe, you just know you are going to be in very safe and experienced hands.

As others have mentioned, we had the "get out by 7.30pm or else" deal. The entrees were nice. The main courses took too long at over forty minutes and the food was too oily. Portions were small. Overpriced for what it is and not fresh, head to Glenelg if you want nice seafood. Head to the local pub if you want the same as this but much cheaper.

Absolutely loved our dinner here!! We booked for 2 on a busy Friday night! The service was great and the ambiance and decor are lovely! We shared a salt and pepper calamari for entree, I had a barramundi steak on a Mediterranean chickpea salad, my partner had the seafood linguini. We couldn't fault the food and thought it was delicious. We will definitely be back!!

Had to try the new place which had taken the place of the iconic Adelaide Alphutte... Greek basis with seafood... warm welcome - excellent service and competent staff... good seafood menu with variety. I ordered calamari with Panko crumb which was served with normal crumb ... given that we were entertaining guests I chose not to complain and just made mention... but not happy Loucas about your slackness on this point.... good wine list and reasonable prices... was it anything special... nope. Was it good quality food and decent service with nice surrounds - yep. Would I go back - yes probably... in a while....

Only tried this restaurant recently after their move to Wakefield but heard many good things despite the unassuming set-up they had on hutt street.  Needed to be in and out within 45 minutes because we were walk-ins and they did a good job bringing the entrees and mains out at a good pace.  Didn't feel rushed at all.  Had the creamy garlic prawns which probably needed another thirty seconds on the pan but overall the experience made me want to return soon to try other things on the menu.

Made a booking for 6pm last Saturday and it was quiet with a few diners. Previous thought was a shabby looking restaurant like of a beach house style but was very surprised to see a modern interior/exterior exhibiting the traits of a fine dining restaurant. Once again I read the reviews so I had a high expectation of the food I was going to order; Chargrilled Australian Seafood Platter ($55 pp). When it arrived on the table, I noticed that it was of a good portion for two people and the smell was amazing! I must say, I was a little disappointed though because the garfish had a pungent taste and the chips weren't as hot or crunchy. But overall, the taste of the seafood was divine and the octopus skewer was delicious; so flavoursome and succulent!

Came here with a few friends on Saturday night with a reservation. Food was OK. Being seafood I was expecting fresh and clean flavors, I love seafood. But the mixed platter was very heavy and all meats on the platter tasted the same as I assume the chef used the same seasoning for everything? The service was excellent! but it is not a place to be dining out late which just means you have to dine in early.

Great atmosphere and friendly service, Louca's continued our level of expectations for Adelaide food. I had the 'Jewels of the sea' and chose a combination of scallops, calamari and prawns. The seafood was cooked beautifully with the opportunity to choose the cooking style, an extra treat! It's no surprise this restaurant fills up quickly so expect a teasing delay for food as the smell of the sea fills the air!

We have eaten here once before & enjoyed the Greek-themed seafood menu. It has a lot of choices plus vegetarian options.<br/><br/>Being on popular foodie strip Hutt Street, we parked at the far end of Gilles Street & enjoyed the walk due to the warm night.<br/><br/>When my husband rang to book a table for Saturday night he was advised that there are two sittings; one at 5.30pm & another at 7.30pm. If you choose the early sitting, you have to be out by the next one. We chose 7.30 and arrived a couple of minutes early and the busy staff pointed out our table at the back with a bench seat. Then another staff member escorted us halfway to our table.<br/><br/>It was a warm night & the floor length side windows were open, rendering the air conditioning ineffective so I immediately took off my cardigan.<br/><br/>There are a couple of spelling errors on the menu (trip of dips & calamai) which in my opinion make it look unprofessional.<br/><br/>The service was pretty good except for when we finished our aperitifs & were left empty-glassed until the entree was brought out & we could order another drink.<br/><br/>The wine is served in informal stemless glasses (tumblers) which warm the chilled wine when being held.<br/><br/>There were very noisy Chinese New Year celebrations next door & it seemed to take a long time before a staff member closed the door to cut out the loud drumming filling the room.<br/><br/>The oysters mornay entree were only lukewarm but were still tasty. My husband had the seafood linguine main course which had a generous amount of seafood in it & he enjoyed it, however, two of the mussels still had their beards on. I had ocean catch of grilled prawns & scallops on skewers which were so delicious that they didn’t need the homemade tartare sauce. The accompanying chips were also good, however the garnish was limp.<br/><br/>We were too full to eat a dessert & enquired about getting one takeaway to eat later but this was not an option.<br/><br/>We are not big eaters & didn’t order bread or salad to accompany our meals but the final bill was higher than I expected. <br/><br/>Having said all this, I would return when I want to eat quality seafood.

Starter platter was lovely. Prawns, home made pitta bread, whitebait and calamari (yumm!). I can recommend starter. It was very filling if ur after a good sharing plate.<br/><br/>Crab linguine was out of this world! 5* to chef. They really know pasta.<br/><br/>Didnt go much for flavoured oysters. If they were natural prob better choice. The mornay could have been more creamy. Lovely cheese on top but not much thickness/creaminess for bechamel inside with oyster itself on the mornay. Kilpatric lovely flavour but that awful cheap cubed bacon really spoiled it for me. Seemed like bacon baked as it was not at all crispy. Or maybe chef was under the pump as it was a busy Sat"d night. They are a busy establishment ill give them that. <br/><br/>Wine was lovely. Service exceptional. Waiting staff very friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>The place has great ambience. We will go there again but if i need my oyster hit i will be going to my regular place. <br/><br/>I would go back for the paster and to try some of the other delectables offered. They have some good offerings on the menu id like to try.

Louca's seafood is divine. We come back time and again to experience how beautifully they cook. Wait staff are attentive and serving sizes are enormous. It's the quality of the food that keeps us coming back and that extends to the meat and the desserts.

We walked in and were greeted with "do you have a reservation" no hello! We said no but do you have a table for 2 - reply "yes but you have to be gone by 7.30" - then a table was pointed to and again it was repeated "you need to be gone by 7.30" to which we relied yes we heard that already. Great start! <br/>Shortly after a shout from the kitchen "no I told you not this one that one " - woops. <br/>Food ok.. $35 for a whole flounder ... Very small and salad lettuce leaves, capsicum and red onion... Chilli barumundi good but just served with white rice - no salad also $35<br/>Not impressed - won't be back!

Overpriced.... Service was really good however food let it down a bit. The platter was a bit bland and overpriced. .. However the Baileys ice cream affogato was delicious. ... if I went back I would prob just order a meal not the platters...

Loucas serves nice food however it is nothing spectacular and way over priced. One share plate (for 2) cost $98 that was just one 'share platter', it lacked flavour and we had to ask for lemon and dipping sauce. Not happy at all with the price for the food we received . Service was also very average, we had to remind waitress to bring our beverages. Will not be returning.

First time coming here as a family wanted seafood and this place is a must for seafood lovers. The seafood is very fresh and service is AAA++

Disappointed. Went to Louca's Seafood Grill for my mum's birthday and was thoroughly disappointed. The waitress was rude however I understand people have bad days and didn't think anything of it to begin with, but then it was obvious they just wanted us to eat and leave. The rest of the staff ended up being just as rude and provided very poor service. Food was average and overpriced. Will not return

Seafood lovers take note - this place serves up very nice seafood dishes and there is more on offer than boring old crumbed and battered recipes. It's fresh and tasty and well worth a visit!

Always great fish. The fish is always fresh and cooked to perfection. Try the combination seafood feast with a portion of fish on the side as a shared meal. We had grilled scallops, salt n pepper squid, crumbed prawns with beer battered flathead on the side. Tasty as ever.

If you are full say so!! It.... If you are full say so!!<br/>It is not pleasant sitting outside in the cold (with rain, smokers, traffic) and long waits. The food is average (by Perth standards anyway), waitstaff friendly but not enough of them. Those sitting outside in the cold should get quicker service.

Hot night in Adelaide. Arrived without a reservation on a Tuesday night and was accommodated with a minimum of fuss. Oysters for entree an absolute delight. Followed up with a mix of prawn calamari and scollops, well the taste buds were saying have you taken me to heaven. Really enjoyed the very attentive and polite young staff members. An absolute gem.<br/>Rick

Lovely. Fresh tasting food, very attentive staff. Really pleasant experience over-all

Fast Fried Fish. Squeezed in on a Saturday night, dips tasted like they came from the supermarket, main course was fried fish and chips, very oily and bloody expensive..<br/><br/>Go to your local fish and chip shop and save a fortune, wait a minute isnt that where the owner came from!

Adelaide's best seafood. My husband and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here a few days early as we usually miss out on an anniversary dinner due to the fact we married on his birthday and we celebrate that with friends every year.<br/>When ordering drinks we decided on our favourite Pinot and when it came the owner offered it complimentary for this occasion. The food was delicious, generous serves and we couldn't fault the service. Charming waiters, we'll be back

Fantastic. My Chinese guests requested to eat Australian Sea Food, so I brought them here. We were not disappointed...<br/>High quality eating, reasonably priced (for sea food) comfortable, quiet atmosphere. Excellent.

Walking down Hutt St on a chilly Friday night and wandered past Louca's. I love seafood, and have heard many great things so popped inside. It was busy, but they happily found us a table anyway. I've worked in hospitality for 10 years- I appreciate how difficult this can be and they were excellent about getting us a table. Extensive menu and wine list, all very well priced and great drops. Ordered Jewels of the Sea cooked in a combination of ways as recommended by my very kind and professional waitress- crumbed prawns, salt and pepper calamari and grilled scallops. My hubby is a Coeliac and they made a GF batter just for him! Chips are already GF and most things can be tailored to suit. Everything was cooked to perfection, including our entree of creamy mustard Hervey Bay scallops, and our waitress even recommended a cafe to us that does 99% of it's menu GF. So professional, loved it!

Great for a casual business lunch. Chianti's further up Hutt Street has for many years the lunch spot of choice for many in the property industry.<br/><br/>It was accordingly a surprise today to find that some well known identities have now discovered Louca's.<br/><br/>Very much brasserie in style, the fish is fresh and the choice broad. Flathead, Whiting, Garfish are all there with prawns, scallops and Calamari.<br/><br/>Louca's is a pleasant eatery for a balmy autumn afternoon and boasts a small but well chosen list of complementary wines.<br/><br/>I'll be back.

Prawns: mediocre Soft shell.... Prawns: mediocre<br/>Soft shell crab: not even cooked!<br/>Octopus: tasty but rubbery<br/>Garfish: pretty good<br/>Scallops: delicious <br/>Squid: reasonable<br/><br/>...it's probably not a great sign when the tastiest part of a $90 meal is the chips. Sorry, but we won't be back.

Had the chargrilled seafood platter and was really impressed. Was a great night topped off by tasty almond ice cream and decadent chocolate cake. Can't fault the food, may be nice to have some music in the background for some added ambiance.

After reading some bad reviews, I was a bit pensive about going to Louca's.<br/>Maybe they've lifted their game, but either way I couldn't fault their Chargrilled Seafood Platter for quality, taste or value.<br/>Service isn't the greatest - nor is their any ambience that you might expect from Hutt St dining, but in a city with very limited choice for quality seafood dining, definitely give Louca's a go.
Karen
Uninspiring. Dropped in on a cool Friday night and was pleased to get a table without a booking, unfortunately it was a very cool and windy night and the windows could not keep the wind out so it was noisy and cool. The food was pleasant and fresh but nothing extraordinary. We had to ask three times for water. The ambiance is not great, it is not a place I will return to, nothing glaringly wrong just nothing special or worth returning for

Unexciting. My husband and I went on a date there recently. Unfortunately I can't say that it I enjoyed it.<br/>The acoustics were overbearing, it was hard to have a conversation. The service was friendly enough. The menu wasn't very exciting; a list of common-place fish, squid and scallops (scallops were not fresh, had roe), either crumbed, beer battered or grilled, minimal flavour - all dishes served with a large serving of chips, an undressed mundane "salad" (lettuce and onion in the corner of the plate) and a tartare sauce - very uninventive, unexciting and unappetising. Pub food really - which is fine, just not what I enjoy. The fish was cooked nicely. The squid and scallops were neither here nor there, certainly no great textures or flavours.<br/>We had a dozen oysters for entree, there was a lot of grit and it was cooked with a creamy, too spicy (mouths on fire - and we're no strangers to spice) nacho-tasting sauce on top - wierd. Probably the least enjoyable oysters I've ever had.<br/>Most dishes were served with a garnish of curly leaf parsley - retro.<br/>I think this restaurant would appeal to many people - they do good fish and chips. I won't go again.

Mmmmmm,. Our dining experience at Louca's was excellent, we enjoyed the Johann Oysters and the chargrilled platter. The oysters were magnificent and we would go back just to have them. The chargrilled platter was fantastic and trust me everything was edible. The desert was magnificent - my husband couldn't decide what he wanted so let our waiter (Andrew) decide what to have and he certainly didn't disappoint, with a magnificent Creme Caramel. The staff were great and I certainly would have no hesitation in returning. The food was not only edible it was delicious. Oh and there was lemon on the platter!!
JoeBlow
Without question one of the worst dining experiences.<br/><br/>Where to begin, let's start with order being taken - no offer of water, waiter lacked personality and re-affirmed our order 4 times.<br/><br/>Entree was fine. Once we were nearly finished waiter asks if we were done and whether to call for mains. We said no as still grazing. Within 15min, mains arrive?!? <br/><br/>Scallops inedible, prawns inedible, no lemon on chargrilled seafood platter?<br/><br/>When second waitress takes platter away, with 65% remaining, no question if everything was alright. Requested bill and received an arrogant reply. Wine glass never refilled (had to do it ourselves).<br/><br/>All in all, glorified fish and chip shop, without quality food. <br/><br/>Score 0/10.

Fantastic Food. Came from Sydney and dined at loucas seafood and grill best food I have tasted in a long time. The staff are extremely friendly the atmosphere is really good, and would recommend it to anyone wanting great food.

Time to hit the Hutt. :)<br/><br/>Haven't been particularly impressed on my previous visits to Louca's, but I'm giving them another try. :)
The Feed Report
While this place is in Urbanspoon’s “$$$” category, a lot of the dishes are fairly pedestrian. The presence of chips is a good indicator that a restaurant isn’t fancy. The waitress is very tolerant of my pickiness.
The Feed Report
That lamb was good. It’s not technically “seafood”, however. The chips were actually surprisingly good. They were kinda zingy.

I love seafood and there is only a handful of seafood restaurants in Adelaide.  Well at least ones that I have been to.  I have been meaning to try this restaurant for a long time.  Lucky I did as I had an absolutely wonderful time.
