Review Le Carpe Diem - Adelaide

Friendly service, tasty crepe. The small crepe was big enough to cover the plate - see attached photo. Good coffee too. Thumbs up. Went back for another breakfast.. great coffee, croissant with Brie, walnuts and honey, and apple pastry. Another 5/5!

Fabulous! Busy downstairs and lovely and peaceful upstairs, why don’t more people sit up there? Arrived on a packed Sunday morning to find upstairs could be all to myself. Traditional bucket-wheat crepes are amazing, lovely and light, crispy on the sides. Fresh juice was also amazing. I got a coffee to go on the way out and some of their canales which were equally amazing.

The smell the second you walk through the door makes your mouth water. We were warmly greeted and shown the menu within moments and the great service continued until we left. The choice on the menu was quite varied and it was almost impossible to make a decision! I chose from the sweet menu and was not disappointed with my choice. I will be back for sure to try from the savoury side.

A lovely French experience! French Crêperie & even French Cider on the menu. Prices are reasonable & location is great - closer to East End. The staff are friendly & have cute accents so it feels like you’re worlds away.

After having some fine tapas, I had a hankering for some crepe. This is probably the best place for crepe in Adelaide. All they do is crepe, and that specialization shows. I like sweets so I had their salted caramel crepe, which is divine as far as crepe goes. They also have savory crepes too, if that's your thing. So yeah, come here for the best crepes. You won't be disappointed.

Crepes were delicious! Personally I prefer the savoury ones. I took the egg ham n cheese, loved it! Coffee was good, and staff was efficient and courteous!

Friendly service. Quaint and authentic continental French atmosphere. Absolutely delicious sweet and savoury crepes. And gluten free too!

This is where I would take my family and friends to experience an amazing breakfast or lunch. The galette was the best I have tried so far. Dessert and coffee are also very good coupled with good service. Definitely will be back again!

Very French feel to the place with French staff, music and fitout. Very nicely done. Crepes were delicious. They even had a candle for a birthday surprise cannelle. Nice coffee too and well all reasonably priced. $4 for a double shot flat white. Nice staff that went out of their way to make it a great meal and experience! Thanks!

Very nice! Our goal is to try every crepe on the menu. So far, so good!

amazing coffee, best in Adelaide for sure and fantastic croissants and crepes.

love the atmosphere and friendly staff.

returned this morning before open for a croissant and coffee and the staff happily obliged once machines were ready.

i love this place, definitely come here if you are nearby

A great little place for a Sunday brekkie! Very popular destination for large gatherings, as well as singles and intimate couples, this venue has plenty to impress with an extensive range of sweet and savoury crepes to satisfy any taste. Service is extremely friendly and impressive, especially considering how busy the establishment was, and speed to delivery of food was quite good (although the crepe itself was interestingly cooler than expected).

I personally enjoyed the Camembert crepe, which was a delightful infusion of apple, walnut and Camembert in the crepe, served with a generous side salad. A decent mug of chai latte complemented the meal perfectly (excellent level of sweetness).

Ambience of the venue is amazing, with lots of French decor and flair, and I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the venue was considering how many people were present inside. People were able to carry on conversations very easily without having to yell over each other.

Highly recommended to visit, and I can't wait to return to try out their sweet crepes at some stage. 🙂 The special 'Cappucine' crepe on the board sounds amazing!

Went here with the partner for Sunday brunch.

To wet our taste buds, we ordered freshly baked pain au chocolate and cannelles, as well as a well-made cappuccino. We then ordered the specials-of-the-day, which included: "Avignon" - a delicious savoury galette with goat's curd, jamon serrano, fresh figs, walnut and rocket salad, and the "Flavie" - a not-too-sweet but scrumptious crepe with fresh grapes, dark chocolate, salted caramel and vanilla ice cream.

Service was friendly and efficient. Casual, cute decor and ambience. Reasonable prices.

Overall, fantastic selections of authentic French crepes and galettes.

I’m a stickler for perfection when a food is part of the places name and the crepes have been on point every time I’ve come here. Great place to come for dessert with a wide selection of teas also. Love it and all the French accents that come with it.

Oh la vache! What a lovely creperie! I've been both with friends and also alone, where I'll grab one of the books about Bordeaux and watch the eyes of young children light up as the waiter or waitress approaches with their food. There are both sweet crepes and savoury galettes to choose from. Although everything I have tried is divine, I'd highly recommend Reinette for those who have a sweet tooth. The crepes always arrive hot, fresh and not too crispy or dense. The portions are large so unless you're starving or sharing, go with La Simple.

Nice and a friendly space with a calming ambience. Made in a typically French style with Eiffel towers on each table and french colours. They serve French Crepes and French Desserts. The crepes are made fresh with a variety of toppings. We tried the-
Lemon Butter Sugar
Maple and Honey
Salted Caramel
Nutella
Roasted Almonds.
All of these were lovely. Out of all, I loved the salted caramel ones the most. Bang on flavours! The lemon butter sugar was a bit too sour for me. Others were delicious too. Since they are made fresh they’re warm and taste quite good. The toppings, whipped cream and ice cream is a quite generous portion with the crepes. Loved this place! Will definitely visit again.

This place was super warm and cozy with a lovey ambiance! They had many French lollies , cakes and pastries as well as crepes! I got the salted caramel crepe and it was delicious! The sauce was homemade and buttery, I bought a hot chocolate but it was a little watery. Overall so many options of different crepes , drinks, main meals and sweets! Would recommend visiting!

Delicious food, excellent coffee, magnificent French vibes and friendly staff.
Regular customer for 3 years, love everything about Le Carpe Diem.
Food - 5/5
Vibes - 5/5

Excellent coffee and crêpe. I had the maple syrup crêpe with extra butter - it was very well made, thin and delicious.

Service was friendly and the French vibe natural and not forced.

The combo menu (lunch specials) includes a savoury galette & a sweet crepe for $15. The traditional galette with egg, ham & Swiss cheese was good. Regular Camembert galette with green apple & salad, was also nice. Coffees were lovely.
(Food - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3/5)

Favourite place for a girls night out! Yummy crepes, coffee, gorgeous decor. Feel like I'm back in Paris! The savory buckwheat crepes are delicious but sometimes, just sometimes, the sweet are a little lacking a homemade flavor .

Been back 6 times now... the chocolate viennois is my only let down, thinking it's going to be some rich creamy thick drink but every time it's been a fairly lukewarm average if not less chocolaty than average hot choc... anyway that's literally the only thing wrong! Always love everything else. Their cheese crepe is divine.
Sophie Isabella Travers
Absolutely beautiful and delicious crepes, that are also very traditional!!!! There was a good selection of savoury and sweet crepes which were both delightful!!! Would definitely recommend and go here again!!!

Ordered Reinette , La rochelle and Honfleur ( left to right) it was uhmayzing !!!!! It was a really an authentic crêpes place ! Even the staffs speak French too !

I have not been here yet, but plan to visit this October. The rating, before the fact, is mostly based on reading other reviews. The photos are making my mouth water.

We liked the $15 lunch deal, the Saint Amour, the Reinette, the Margaux and the Brigitte. They serve real French cider in a pichet/jug and you can choose brut/dry or doux/sweet. The place gets me straight back to France and the selection of classic french pastries ranges from croissant to cannelés de Bordeaux. Recommended.

Elegant, oh so French and delicious! You will feel you are sitting in a little cafe in France whilst dining at Le Carpe Diem, the smells, the decor and the sounds of staff speaking French. I opted for the savoury option this time but will be trying their amazingly delicious looking sweet crepes next visit...

Bonjour!

Instantly transported to chic hipster French Café! Gorgeous place, friendly staff that even speak French! Lots of laptops, tablets in sight, shame on you peeps, you should be soaking up the surroundings!
We only had moccachino, coffee, crepe for two with figs, fig jam, maple syrup, walnuts, ice cream. We found the crepes to be a bit on the rubbery side, almost as if they had been reheated (not sure on this but just tasted that way) and the ice cream wasn’t the creamiest, but still quite sweet and tasty!

I would like to return to try the savoury side of the menu and I highly recommend a visit without your laptop!
Michèle Bode
Wonderful atmosphere and decor paired with delicious reliable food. Opt for the savoury crêpes alongside a delicate tart. A good pastry chef has been utilised well in this small evocative kitchen. A good escape from the standard hipster esque thrum of the city. Bring a well plumped wallet.
The Current Munchie
We had a nice sleep in, before spending some time again on Zomato, to find our little venue for breakfast. Apparently RB had been wanting to come to La Carpe Diem since working in and out of Adelaide for a good 6 months – I’m glad she got to tick one more place off her wish list!. We took our own menus and perused (for a longer time than usual) before deciding on the following:
Rachel Heysen
I've been craving a crepe for the last 4 months and this most certainly satisfied those cravings, absolutely delicious meal. Perfect serving size for sharing a dessert with a friend or a partner.

Went there today and really enjoyed the whole experience.

Thanks!

Absolutely delicious crepes! Great atmosphere, friendly and prompt service. The range of French pastries makes it hard to choose. I'm already planning my next visit!

After my lunch at Adelaide Pho I was needing a caffeine hit and something sweet to finish off my meal. We were in the CBD already so Master N and I went to Le Carpe Diem to satisfy our sweet tooths. Le Carpe Diem is a small and cosy, beautiful chic little French cafe located on the east end of the CBD. They specialise in crepes, galettes and other French delicacies.
Phantom
Great crepes, cute setting, nice atmosphere, worth a visit if your in Adelaide. The only thing I don't like is having to order at the counter
Phyllis
Fantastic place! Friendly staff and delicious crepes. Ordered the Jasmine, La Rochelle, and Saint Malo. Everything was delicious and surprisingly not overly sweet. Highly recommended!
Tige
What a cute little cafe for a late night sweet treat on the weekend. You almost feel like you're in Paris on a winter's night as you sit with your hot chocolate and delicious crepes watching the night go by. I love the cosy atmosphere and the food is delicious. Give them a go, you won't be disappointed.
Famished
Cosy little store with extensive selection of sweet and savoury crepes.

My friends and I loved watching the inviting staff make crepes at the counter in front of us. We drooled over tarts and cronuts while waiting to order, then headed upstairs to escape the bustling crowd at ground level. Everybody enjoyed their beautifully presented, moreish morsels. Juices and iced chocolates also hit the spot. I'm already planning a return visit.

This place is just so cute. It is a small slice of downtown Paris in The East End of Adelaide. The moment you walk in the door the aroma off the coffee and food takes you back to Paris. The coffee and hot chocolate is devine. The La Rochelle is a masterpiece. The presentation of the cafe and food is stunning. Table service is excellent. A must visit.

And just like that, summer is over for another year. That doesn’t mean one can’t still enjoy some sweet and cold treats whilst the heat is still lingering around. Head to the east side in the city for some authentic crepes at the cute French creperie that goes by the name of Le Carpe Diem Cafe, carpe diem translating to ‘seize the day‘. Crepes is their specialty, both of the sweet and savoury variety (goes by the name of galettes), however there are also other French pastries, cakes and tarts which can be found in the front counter in the cafe.
Vivienne
This is a fantastic place in the city to get a casual coffee with friends or a delicious late night dessert. The crepes are delicious and there are some absolutely gorgeous hot/iced chocolates and coffees to try, as well as pastries and little cakes and tarts. Went there tonight for the first time and can't wait to come back! Highly, highly recommend!
Gemma Scannell
Ah Oui Oui, the crepes here are delicious, amazing choice of sweet or savoury. Always busy busy on weekends but didn't wait long for service. Staff are very friendly, clean and efficient.
Azza Johnston
i thought le carpe diem was a really cute little cafe in the city. it took a little while for the crepe but that didn't really bother my friend and i, we sat upstairs against the window. one thing that could be managed better would be the table sizes haha. the prices were a bit hefty but take that away and the crepes were absolutely delicious. I've been there twice and both times have had the jasmine double haha. a really nice little cafe
Diar Riyanti
A very nice French creperie! All I can say is that if I live in Adelaide, I will probably go and grab their crepes every once in a forthnight! I only try the Jasmine crepes which was recommended by the chef. And it was awesome! Delicious! The strawberry was sweet and no sour at all!

They speak French, so if you wanna practice your French, come there and try speak with them!!!
J.YeePP
Very nice French cafe. The staffs there has French accent which makes me feel like I'm actually at France. They are very helpful and friendly too. Absolutely love the food there - buckwheat crepe in particular. Presentation might not be the best but the taste is really good. It is really yummy. Coffee is good too. Crepes are very soft - usually savoury has cheese melt in between. After savoury crepes, you can also have sweet crepes but if you already have enough of crepes there's also some other dessert at the glass cabinet near the entrance. A must go place if you are around the town.
Miss T
Coffee was great, crepes took nearly 50 minutes to arrive on our table!!!!!!!
Was at the point of asking for our monies back. Guy making crepes not so well organised, (was watching him). Half a time he didn't have anything (crepe mixture) on at least one of the hotplates. Then someone complained about long wait to older lady who was making coffee, and I couldn't believe it, she was not apologetic but arguing with the customers that they can't go ay faster!!! Obviously need more staff or better crepe maker. To be honest food of was ok but nothing to write about (one crepe with little bit of topping on it is not worth over $15-$18), not worth the $$$$$ they charge. All in all very disappointing experience considering that it looks like a such a cute, charming place. We walked out of there still hungry regreting our decision to eat there. If you want coffee and french pastry ONLY then you may be satisfied. Will not go back.

So... 40 minutes later and still no crepe... Seriously they just came and said 10 more minutes. The staff are horrendous, the food is average and the reality is that this place is not worth the effort for the overpriced food.

Too bad, they had a good thing going but at the end of the day if your employees sit behind the counter on their phones and not actually making the food then your business will suffer.

Stay far far away. Owner owes me $20 for food never delivered. Consider it a standing debt.
Michelle
The cafe itself is very nicely set up but I'm not a big fan of the savory crepes which felt quite ordinary. The sweet crepes were better

Darren
Love the menu; with sweet and savoury widely covered there's something for everyone. The hardest part is working out what to order! They also sell French cider and have done a great job creating an authentic atmosphere. Definitely one of the best creperies in Adelaide.

I visited Le Carpe Diem on a Sunday night recently. It was lovely sitting snug in a cafe as the weather was grey and miserable. We warmed ourselves up with hot chocolates and delicately flavoured, lovingly presented crepes. The only let down was that my salted caramel hot chocolate lacked a salted caramel flavour. It was still a perfectly acceptable hot chocolate, though.

I would love to go back and try more crepes - next time I'm in Adelaide!
But I'm Hungry Now
This is a lovely little place. I was greeted by a friendly girl with a French accent. After a short wait, I was served with the Josephine crepe with pear, chocolate, almond filling and vanilla ice cream which was beautifully presented. The hint of what I think was creme fraiche off-set what would have otherwise been a very sweet dish.

Surprised by many negative comments here, as if they went to a different place. We had breakfast here and shared both savoury and sweet crepes. Both were delicious and more-ish. Coffee was good, service was very friendly, nice ambience. This is really a lovely place!

Le Carpe Diem is a fantastic little French dessert café. Came here with my study group for lunch on a Wednesday and it was a pleasant petite surprise! Our food arrived within 15 minutes and service was incredible. Do check this place out - It turns out an impressive range of crepes, both savoury and sweet. Coffee, particularly the latte macchiato is also a treat and the assortment of French sweets and pastures is second to none. Must visit!

They lost our order. We had a large group of eight so we did not expect our food at the same time as we ordered in three lots.
The first three came out very fast and then we waited and waited and waited, half an hour later two more came out. 45 mins later we asked about the other three orders. We were told they were next. One came out then we waited and waited and waited. After seeing more crepes go out to other tables we asked again, by this stage it was an hour. We were told that that people had ordered before us...that was simply not true as a girl on our table ordered after those two still waiting for food. Eventually it turns out that they have lost this ordered...weird as we got one of the crepes on this order first. I asked if they would then be free, we were offered some free cider instead. An hour and 15 mins after ordering the crepes arrived. The food is nothing special, definitely not worth waiting an hour for, and way overpriced.

Here we go again, we revisited Le Carpe Diem Creperie on Grenfell Street. Not much has changed. The cafe still looked similar to when it was first opened. The cafe was jam packed with customers this time.

It was an Autumn's evening and we had just tasted the best yiros in Adelaide. Walking back to our car we passed this charming créperie that literally spelled seize the day. Seize the day we did and went in for dessert. The place was packed, there were people waiting for tables, some just getting pastries to go, a lovely vibrant atmosphere in this cafe that transports you to Paris. The decor is very Parisian, with lovely table and dinnerware. I liked the plates and mugs very much, somehow made me feel like I was dining in the French countryside. We ordered our coffees and I picked a lemon tart from their selection of pastries. Lemon Tart It was a lovely citrus tart, tangy and light. The filling is very smooth while the tart case is just how I like it, not overly sweet. Meanwhile, Mr. Foodie was deciding over which Crépe to have.

Best crepes in town!. Delicious Camembert Gallette and strawberry with chocolate crepe.
Excellent service. Who needs Paris?
Karen

Like but wouldn't rave about it. Slooooooow, so ever slooooooow! When we crave the crepe and can't be bothered making at home we head to Carpe but seriously I question why every time. Having Breton influence my expectations are high, i've had some of the best crepes over there, been taught by the best to make them and seriously if you can't churn out more than 2 in 5 minutes something isn't working. The layout is quite awkward even though the product itself is good - service is sooooo slow, the place can get cramped and uncomfortable to eat if more than 2 at the table. Over priced for what it is - but I gather thats more to do with the overstaffed fancy east end location than anything else.

Had the Crepe Margeux, delish. Coffee not so good. Service was lovely.

Love. Savoury, and sweet crepes: each bite is one to be savoured, they put just the right amount of topping with each component delicately pronounced it's just what crepes should be!
Nice atmosphere and staff, and I have always had long blacks here which I find to be lovely
Fish
Bustling little French cafe that turn out an impressive range of crepes. Both savoury and sweet are delicious. Coffee is also a treat and the assortment of French sweets and pastures is second to none. You must visit

Nice family run place. The atmosphere is not really attractive but the food and the service was really good. Too pricy though for the portions offered

AMAZING ! Sensationnelle !. I am french and on holiday for 2 months in adelaide ao I decided to check our this little french Creperie ! The food and atmosphere was excellent and lovely! I can't believe I see comments about how cheap the food is and that it is not quality ! This is not the truth ! You cannot judge a restaurant on a couple of mistakes they make because everyone does ! I have been there at least 10 times and it has always been excellent food with short waiting times ! I have lived my whole life in France and I have been to many creperies in France ! It is normal to wait 15-20 minutes for a crepe as it is made on the spot! Anyway all my visits at the Carpe Diem have been fabulous and I can't wait to tell all friends in France and Australia to come and visit this place!
Ally Sinclair
C'est fantastique. Sorry about the French but it just felt right. This place is truely authentic. It's a nice little piece of France in the middle of adelaide. It's an absolutely must try. The food was very nice and the juices even better. However if cheese is not your thing the savoury crepes are very rich in it so stick to the desert options. In short, it's got a great atmosphere, good food, and lovely staff that are more then happy to help you.

Joy ride with business ethics. Been here 3 times in a very short time. the food and drinks are all good. but how is everything put together, the service, waiting time, decor, staffs training and benefits, all made the place below average but paying at premium price. business owner took customers and staffs for a joy ride.
1st time, it wasnt that busy, so everything spot on, didnt even realised there is an upstair seating.
2nd time, quite a busy morning. 4 of us waited for food, came in different time, long time gap, self serve cutleries (is ok, no big deal). one of the creape has a whole piece of plastic wrap stucked in it, raised the issue to one of the staffs, she just went, "Oh, OK!" ... obvious these waiting staffs has no idea about servicing industry, no appologise, no intentions to do anything. for us, is ok. no big deal, we didnt expect anything anyway, but didnt expect this at all.
3rd time, another busy morning, 3 of us, waited, time gap .... food came, one of them has few pieces of chunky yellow hard plastic, raised the issue to one of the floor girl, same reactions with the previous girl "oh OK", then nothing. i actually saw a YELLOW, the ONLY Yellow colour hard plastic thing in the kitchen, appart than the dish washer rack, there is a broken dust pan next to the sink. suspecting the yellow plastic is part of the dust pan. really hoping the dust pan is for FLOUR purposes, like in many bakeries, but not for the FLOOR.
this is a very cheap product to make, with really high profit margin. which only run by 3-4 round hot plate to feed the whole restaurant. each take about 4 minutes to make. during busy time, this is a killing working area for the staff. if 5 of us show up, there will be at least 1 of us will need to wait up to 15 minutes. that is why every review is complaining about the waiting time.
they are in the business to make money, but if one in a business to make money with wrong business ethic, i think is quite wrong. low food cost, high margin, staffs with no service idea, cheap decor to setup (which is very cleaver), big seating capacity in ratio with the kitchen capacity..... while the business owner is hapily working close to the cash register collecting cash, while customers waiting for long time, problems with food and services... no one care, but the cash register. this is how i felt with this place. or else, what kind of retail business that is not interested to know how their customers and staffs felt and nothing get changed? at least cut down the seating capacity to solve the waiting time, or add few more hot plate. but hot plate cost, cutting down seating capacity cost money too. ignorance, doesnt cost anything and not many customers will see it anyway.
i believe there are lots more hard working, honest business people out there needed to be supported. is sad to see good product like this with wrong etchics.
Jonathan Vdk
The food is really good. Crepes and pastries are lovely and the coffee is not too bad.
HOWEVER.... the waiting time almost ruined the dining experience. The staff are friendly but just not quick or efficient. No water in the water jugs, coffees came after the crepes arrived, and for some reason the sugar bowls are HUGE. (That's nitpicking a little I know!)
Anyway, we'd probably come again but the service needs to be stepped up.
Molly King
C'est Bonne. Le Carpe Diem is a fantastic little French dessert café.
Came here with my boyfriend at lunchtime on a Wednesday and it was a pleasant petite surprise!

Contrary to a few reviews on here already our food arrived promptly within about 10-15 mins

My 'Jasmine' crepe filled with Nutella and topped with fresh strawberries and some yummy Icecream was amazing!
I was also able to try out a little French I'd learnt in my high school years of language studies.

Definitely check this place out!
10/10

Don't come here if you want to eat any time soon. I just copy and pasted this from my facebook review as I felt I did not want to waste any more time with this restaurant.

Never ever should you have to wait an hour for a crepe.... That costs $16. As I write this I have been sitting here watching my boyfriend start and almost finish his crepe before mine has even arrived. Disgusting service. Got here at 9.35 for our reservation, that seemed they didn't have recorded, luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) they had a table upstairs available. We were told menus would be brought. After waiting over five minutes I went and quietly got them myself, she never came with the menus. We had to wait for your juices which thankfully came to prevent me from going into a coma due to lack of food. I am still waiting. I understand it is father's day but do not put more people into your restaurant than you can handle and learn to apologise for wait times. We were told the crepes would take thirty mins. Mine has just arrive after over and hour wait and my boyfriend is one bite away from finishing his. Awful awful service. Goodish food but not worth it. And this is coming from someone who loves everything French.

It is such a shame, as the ambience in this restaurant is beautiful, I love hearing the staff speak French with each other and I loved the actual sweet pancake I had, the service however completely lets everything and everyone down. They need to get more hot plates or cooks to fix this issue and then the place will be completely perfect.
Paula Arnold
The food is amazing - huge range beautifully presented and wonderful on the taste buds. But - the wait is terrible!!! One hour to get our meals!! Perhaps a warning on the wait would be appropriate?
Jane Robson
Fabulous combinations with the most delicate crepes. The authenticity stems from the French speaking staff through to great selection of savoury and sweet crepes. The coffee surpasses any I have had in France. We bought some French sweet delicacies to take away as well and they were sublime. Couldn't decide if we liked the lime or lemon tart better. Spoilt for choice in this great setting.
Mary Rast
It was the best crêpe have ever eaten in my life! Lovely atmosphere and amazing food! Would highly recommend!!
Bettyswalls
Abysmal Service. Ordered and proceeded to wait an hour before one of our crepes arrived - when enquiring politely about our order we were met with a blunt response and no sense of care for the customer whatsoever. Assuming the other crepe wasn't far behind we waited patiently for another twenty minutes when it was obvious they had forgotten it altogether. So a grand total of an hour and twenty five minutes later we walked out in utter disgust. Arrogant and aloof customer service makes it really quite an easy decision to never return to Le Carpe Diem.
Jenni Geranium
This is THE BEST creperie in Adelaide. I can't be more happy. Authentic crepes, the staff are actually from France, and the bulle rose is 10/10!
Honas
It just didn't leave loving the food. Friendly, hard working staff but my savory crepe wasn't nice to on the palet.
JR Roaming
Outstanding.. The service and demeanour of the staff is outstanding. The crepe, juices and coffee is reliably perfect, as is the decor and pricing.
Service With A Smile
Lack of customer service. We went here a few weeks ago. A cute little place. We ordered two crepes and an hour later my friend got hers. We asked the waiter about the second and were told they were very busy (perhaps an extra cook top or less tables). Half an hour later I went up to the counter to ask and was told we never ordered it. The waitress had misheard. But instead of trying to fix the problem or apologising we were meet with minutes of the being told we never ordered it.....wow. On mentioning that the wait at our table and other tables also gave the impression of being a little unorganised I was asked how that was my concern...when the tables next to you start asking how long you have been waiting it becomes your concern. With some organisation and perhaps a little change in staff attitude this could be a good place. The food seems to be good, but you don't only pay for the food and I think that is what has been forgotten here.
John
So slow!. Over 40 minutes for a crepe! Staff unable to cope. No apology. No warning when we paid. Utterly unacceptable. I would have dessert too, but no way now. Wish I'd seen the other bad review from today. Avoid.
Cgorgone
SLOWWWLLLLY. So SAD that everytime I have been..in the back of my mind I think HOW LONG is it going to take.... but this time will be FASTER..YEH right 40 min with the OWNER watching until HE realizes he should help the YOUNG WORKER in this KITCHEN??? buy then, me and my wife walk out didnt even want our money back..such a shame they can make good CREPES...
David Cann
Delicious!. I love this place. Friendly people, great food. I'm happy!!
Joe.hebditch
Awesome. Ist timer and I thought the food was fantastic. I had a Juliette crepe. Salted Caramel and the best Salted Caramel I had in ages with a crepe and just the right amount of cream. It was a fantastic end to a great night. I recommend this place for dessert so far anyway but will be returning for more for sure.
Jm
Have given this place two opportunities to change my thoughts on it and sadly they did my succeed. Every order has been over cooked with my crepe being hard and crisp instead of soft! The pears were very hard and not ready to eat. Not impressed for a place specialising in crepes! Then the lady tells me crepes are meant to be hard... and talks to me like I don't know what a crepe is. Will not recommend to people, nor will I return.
Pioria
Amazingly delicious savoury and sweet crepes combined with fantastic coffee make visiting Le Carpe Diem such a treat. Its a little taste of France right here in the middle of Adelaide. The service is friendly and efficient and it has a lovely atmosphere. And all for a very reasonable price. Am spreading the news...Le Carpet Diem is our favourite little cafe and soon it will be yours too.

This wonderfully quaint creperie is the perfect place for a quiet meal or snack, and the coffee is very good too! Inside is beautifully decorated in a French style and outside is shaded by trees. The staff are welcoming and all seem to speak French wonderfully well too which adds to the authenticity.

All in all a great place to meet friends and catchup! Highly recommended.

Customer service was very shocking. They stuffed up a group of friends meals didn't know who had what. Brought food to us that wasn't what we ordered and wouldn't remake what was ordered and got told you can eat it or I'll take it back. Refused to give our money back. Overwise looks like a great place and meals were nice but need improving

Nice quaint French cafe in the old market complex. Flat white was smooth and creamy, not amazing but not bitter. Unsure of what beans/blend they use though. Jamon and egg on a savoury crepe was delicious, not what I was expecting but simple and tasty.

Overall pleasant experience but nothing spectacular.

I recommend the desserts sold at the counter. Don't waste time on the crepes. Beautiful, unique, classic, and rich flavours that are a perfect balance. Not overly sweet at all. The crepes themselves are okay, but nothing to delight in for the prices being paid. Too expensive, not enough in quantity either to make up for its forgettable taste and quality. The cafe itself is a wonderful place, beautiful decor and lovely atmosphere. The staff are extremely kind and friendly, and always have time for a chat to give you a hand or ask about your experience no matter how busy it gets. Will be back for the desserts. At the counter.
The Toothpick
Meh.... First and last visit today. Firstly, the over priced tarts, etc were average to say the least. Took way too long for an iced coffee & iced chocolate to arrive, but they were the only highlight, small as they were, of the experience. The decor seemed almost desperate to appear French with tacky pictures of the Eiffel Tower and other knick knacks bought from some interior design shop in the burbs. Did not feel at all like France, as some reviewers have suggested. Completely underwhelmed by this cafe.

Ive eaten at this creperie abt 5-6 times and until my most recent visit, I thought the crepes were excellent. At my most recent visit on Tuesday morning, I was very disappointed to find that the standard of the crepes has gone down a lot. There were not many customers and the service was still quite slow. Normally I wouldn't have minded as I used to love the crepes here. On this occasion however, the savoury crepes were dark brown (burnt), had too much cheese and was salty. I did notice that someone different was cooking the crepes (on the occasions that I had gone when the crepes were good, the older gentleman was cooking). When I informed the waitress that I thought the crepes were burnt- she told me that it was supposed to be crispy??!! (crispy yes... Burnt... I don't think so). If the management wants to train new ppl to cook, they need to ensure that the standard of food that goes out is of a high quality. Would I go back? Probably not ...

Lovely crepes.... But give this place a miss on weekend mornings. Be prepared to wait forever, and that is if you even get a table. On a quiet weekday late morning or late afternoon, bliss.

Delicious crepes, many varieties and toppings to choose from, friendly staff, easy access to Rundle Mall and a beautiful cafe. I had the best time there catching up with friends whilst enjoying beautiful good.
Just Keep Eating
It appears, that like many others, I was also drawn in to this cafe by the beautiful decor and promise of authentic French crepes. Yet, again like many others, left feeling underwhelmed at best. If this is meant to be an accurate representation of traditional crepes, I very much doubt that they would have become as popular a dish as they have around the world. We tried a few different crepes, both sweet and savoury, and none were very good. By far the worst was the banana, Nutella, strawberry crepe. A teaspoons worth of Nutella, a few slices of banana and (wait for it...) fluorescent pink strawberry ice cream of the lowest quality. As others have said, fresh, quality ingredients are certainly not a priority here. I don't normally promote direct competitors with my reviews, but in this case such disappointment combined with a far superior and similar establishment, means that I feel I must suggest going to Creperie Bruxelles instead to any who may consider coming here.

I like the ambiance but agree that the galettes and crêpes are very disappointing in terms of flavours and texture. Please have fresh ingredients and not things such as tinned mushrooms.Had stale pastry when
visited a couple of months ago. They heated it in microwave and the waitress then tapped the top to show me how it was warm. As a francophile I want this place to do well so will. I will give it another try.

Overrated. Nice place, friendly staff but crepes just average. Definitely did not understand why the hype when everyone was talking about it.

Good all rounder. I like this cafe and keep going back, it is becoming a regular for me. I go on a Sunday mid-morning, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, light and airy setting, ease of getting a table and not being rushed by staff. I have tried the galette (buckwheat flour) with mushroom filling and the one with artichokes. Both have been a pretty good example of a proper galette, the size is sensible and the execution is significantly better than what I can achieve at home in terms of galette texture and nicely crisped edges !

There is always an irresistible selection of sweets in the cabinet at the front and I must always add something for my 'breakfast dessert'. Most recently I tried the eclair, which was tasty and a lovely treat but probably not quite as good as some other places around town that specialise more in that area.

The coffee is pretty good.

There are some less favourable reviews for this place, and I can see that this place may not be for you if you want your food to come out very quickly, if you are in a hurry, if you don't understand french service or that galettes are meant to be crispy and the eggs inside are meant to be runny. If that is you, then please stay away so that I can continue to enjoy the atmosphere and get a table on a Sunday morning !!

We loved this cafe. We shared a tradition galette and then the pear crepe. Just perfect. Would love to have a savoury wheat crepe too but not too big a deal :-)

Relaxing, Friendly, Delicious. I've been here 5 times in the last 3 weeks. I work near Rundle Mall and it just feels so peaceful when I arrive here. The staff are wonderful and greet you with a genuine smile a fabulous authentic Bon Jour and bit more too. The food is great. Have tried quite a few of their savoury crepes. Spoken to the owner/chef (well he makes the crepes anyway). Their French apple cider (dry) is my favourite. I love the decor too - a mix of "country feel and French decor". Really recommend this place if you just want to chill out, have some good food - it feels like you are eating in a good friend's kitchen. After an hour here I feel revived and ready to go back to a busy work...well perhaps not ready but certainly feel like I have had a good break. (I also like that it is away from the immediate city area :-)

Kitsch french. Never heard of this cafe previously and dropped in accidentally after visiting Tandanya and on the way to Ebenezer Place. The decor is cringeworthy. Embarrassingly kitsch posters of black and white views of the eiffel tower, Eeeeew!!!

This cafe has all the ingredients to be good but it has to decide whether it wants to be bogan french (b+w posters of the eiffel tower) or.... edgy.

Right now, its nothing but a generic westfield version of what a french cafe might be.

What a shame

Overhyped. Walking into Le Carpe Diem, you think you've walked into a cafe on a French mainstreet. It's cute and quaint, and superbly fit out. But that's where the excitement stops, in my opinion. I went here not long after it opened and I'm not rushing back. I went with a group of people (who all loved it, by the way) but I just wasn't that impressed. You go up to the counter to order, which is fine, but it gets a bit squishy at the front. My coffee was forgotten, even though my friend ordered one literally a minute before and hers came out promptly. And when I did receive the coffee after asking for it, I have to say it's probably one of the worst I've had in the CBD recently - the milk was so overheated and burnt that a skin was forming on top of the milk, the microfoam was too airy and bubbly and the coffee was weak to top it off. Onto the crepes - the crepe itself was really nice. I ordered a sweet one, being a sweet tooth, but it left a bit to be desired. I opted for nutella instead of melted chocolate as was included on the menu, but regretted this when I saw the tiny amount of nutella that had been smeared on the crepe. It just made the whole thing dry. And the scoop of ice-cream on top was tiny, and it wasn't even great icecream. And I reckon there would have been a teaspoon of nuts scattered on top. Not a great eating experience, because I could tell it would taste good, if only it wasn't so dry. It would have been amazing with hot, melted nutella poured over it, but this was lacking. And it was expensive for what it was. Given this seems to accord with most of the other reviews on here, I doubt I'll be returning by choice any time soon.

Comme ci comme ca. I have to be a bit generous when reviewing this place. After all, Adelaide doesn't exactly have a lot of French eateries. At the most rudimentry level, Le Carpe Diem is a nice place to have a coffee and pastry. The crepes however, are probably worth giving a miss. The nice set dressing persuade people otherwise.

Interesting concept but overated. Great little spot with friendly staff. I was there for a work meeting after a friend's recommendation and it was OK - nothing to rave on about. It's a nice idea to have the pancake style brekkie but the crepe dries out pretty quickly and you get bits of uninteresting dry patches in the ham and egg option.

coffee was good though - Im in no rush to go back.

First visit here. Great first impression had a very tasty "norbonne" galette for breakfast, with a really nice "le vert" juice and a coffee. Everything was really tasty. Great atmosphere, with French-speaking staff and French pop music on the background.

Slow. Too busy, too slow. Food took an hour to arrive at 3PM on a Sunday. Kitchen looked woefully inefficient. I saw people leaving after waiting over forty minutes for food. Buckwheat crepes were delicious but the salted caramel crepe had only a scrape of sauce.

Je t'aime Adelaide. Link to my Restaurant Junkie review on Radio Adelaide on Le Carpe Diem and other things French :)

https://radio.adelaide.edu.au/je-taime-adelaide/

Great ambience and decor, feels like we're in France. everyone speaks french. Loved the "nice" galette. Crepes are pretty authentic in texture, but salted caramel was a little too subtle in flavor. Apple pastry was pretty tasty - sweet and a touch salty. Be back to try more!

Can improve. Long wait times for food to arrive. Likely because there's only 3 crepe pans and 1 chef. Ordered the traditional complete with gruyere cheese and ham and enjoyed the flavours although the galette was slightly dry. The mushroom galette however was bland. The sweet crepes sounded good on paper but lacked in flavour. Would suggest that orders be taken at the table rather than the counter because the line at the counter itself is off-putting and obstructs the entrance.

Perfect for Sunday brunch. Found this place as i took a detour walking to work the other day, and i am so glad that i did. Two of us had one savoury and sweet crepe each. The savoury one with ham, cheese and egg with the wheat crepe was fantastic. Sweet one of chocolate and pear was yummy too. Big thump up for good coffee as well. Definitely will be back very soon!

Crunchy/Dry Crepes. I love the decor in this place, but overall, both my partner and I were disappointed with the food and drink. My crepe which had banana and maple syrup on it was dry and very crunchy - not at all what I was expecting. The coffee was unfortunately burnt.
It was quick service which is great, however, I felt like we were rushed through and they could have easily taken 5-10 minutes longer to ensure the product was of a better standard.
I have heard some good reports about this place, so I may return. But there are so many great cafes opening up around the area that I'd probably prefer to go back to them that risk a bad crepe again!

So disappointed. Organised 9 of my friend's to celebrate my 50th with a brunch here. Went in to book, was hoping to get a table upstairs but was told it would have to be confirmed by phone. Someone called to confirm we couldn't have the table upstairs but would be seated by the window. I arrived for my booking and was told they didn't have a booking for me and that they couldn't accommodate us. The woman behind the counter offered me a free gallette on my next visit and I took my party to Nano's who accommodated us immediately. I decided it was an honest mistake and I wanted to give them another chance. Two weeks later I made another booking, explained to the woman on the phone that I was offered a free gallette and would appreciate not having to explain the situation again on arrival. I ordered a coffee and gallette and was told that the coffee was complimentary. To add to my aggravation she went on to say that if we'd waited the previous time she could've seated our party. We went to Red Door Bakery to finish our breakfast that Le Carpe Diem failed to deliver on so many levels.

The cafe is quaint, especially upstairs. The mushroom and gruyere crepe was tasty. I'm a fairly big eater, so also ordered a croissant. Overall a great place to go if you don't have time constraints and are not after a huge meal.

Went for brunch with the missus on a Tue afternoon. Was actually looking forward to it. The shop has a very nice ambience to it with its French decoratives and natural lighting. We were seated fairly promptly and ordered at the counter shortly after. Drinks came fairly quickly as you'd expect. Enjoyed the fruit juice blend but the coffee was subpar for such an establishment. Our mains, we ordered 2 savoury crepes took AGES to arrive, must've been a good half hour at least from drinks. I was quite disappointed with the crepes. It was well cooked but the combination of ingredients lacked any excitement or oomph. What's more, the egg on both our crepes were terribly undercooked it was half raw. The long wait put us off from ordering the dessert crepes but I saw a flame crepe ordered by the next door table. It was abit crude to see the waiter lighting the alcohol with a lighter. So much for presentation. Overall, fairly disappointed. No real draw for me to go back. Unfortunate really because j do love my crepes.
Easily Pleased
Arrived with big expectations, left feeling really disappointed.. We are franco australians that were excited about the idea of an authentic creperie opening up in Adelaide. It mustn't haven been their day as we waited one and half hours for our galettes and they were overcooked. It wasn't overly busy so I'm guessing the chef chucked a sickie. Would have gladly eaten two + dessert had they arrived within a reasonable timeframe. Wont be returning in a hurry. Its a shame as we would have easily made this a regular outing. but wont take the risk next time.

Overrated. Coffee was too hot (burnt my tongue) and tasted terrible. Crepes were alright, but nothing to rave about. Worth a try at least once, but not any more than that I'm afraid!

We are now regulars.

Located on Grenfell Street, at the East Terrace end, is a new French creperie, Le Carpe Diem. Their food menu is basically made up of two main items, sweet crepes and savoury galettes.

My other friend and I both got the Salmon crepe, quite dissapointing for me really…was quite hungry after…presentation horrible…But what can we expect for a gluten free crepe I guess?? There was a very thin slice of smoked salmon with cheese and some cream cheese/dill on top…..
Food Fitness And Foucault
Having a friend visit from Perth provided me the perfect excuse to spend a beautifully sunny Saturday pursuing some my favourite food spots as well as the opportunity to explore a few new ones. The idea was for me to act as designated driver/host for the day so that she could experience some good wine and good food within the more central part of Adelaide. We started with a late brunch and ended with a dinner, and I must say every place we visited put out some great food :) Le Carpe Diem Our first stop was at Le Carpe Diem on Grenfell Street, this French inspired cafe serves traditional crepes, galettes and pastries. My friend is in love with all things French and has been learning how to speak the language so this seemed like the perfect place for breakfast. I had booked a table but when we arrived the girl seemed a bit confused and just sat us on the first empty table she found. Interestingly later on another girl placed a reserved sign on the table next to us with my name and number
Delicious Please
It was beautiful place to spend an afternoon albeit a bit expensive. You really do feel like you're in France somewhere since the waiters speak French to each other and to customers as well, and the background music is played from a French radio station. (We heard Dancing Queen by ABBA being sung in French. It was weird.)
RIP IT UP MAG
Le Carpe Diem’s menu gives you the choice of savoury or sweet (or both), and ordering gives you a good opportunity to brush up on your rusty high school French. Savoury crepes or ‘galette’ are made of buckwheat, making them gluten free. Named after regions of the country, the gallettes are filled with traditional ingredients with a few modern twists. There are plenty to choose from, but stand-outs include the ‘Camembert’ with camembert cheese, pine nuts, honey and garden salad ($14) and the ‘Nantes,’ filled to the brim with smoked salmon, cheese, crème fraiche and dill ($13.50). If you are usually a fan of the ‘lot’ then the Nice-hailing galette filled with all the good stuff is the one for you.
On The Chopping Board
After being introduced to Le Carpe Diem by one of our Twitter followers a few weeks ago, I decided that I would take the time to pay this beautiful French cafe a visit. Located at the East End of Grenfell Street, Le Carpe Diem is a small and cosy two story location. Greeted by French speaking wait staff I am promptly and kindly seated at my upstairs table where the menu is explained to me. Essentially, there are two main items on the menu - Crepes and Galettes. I always tend to think of crepes as being the sweet, skinnier French cousin of the pancakes with Galettes being the savoury version.

What a beautiful name that is for a new French cafe that recently established itself on Grenfell Street! Le Carpe Diem had us in awe just by its modern, chic interior design. Truly bringing a piece of France to the Adelaide CBD, it was obvious that the decor of the cafe was well thought out.
I Only Eat Desserts
A little slice of France in Adelaide has arrived but Le Carpe Diem left me angry and confused. Be warned about extra charges for sharing even if you’ve already brought something. Let’s establish the facts – 3 crepes were already brought yet an extra $1 was charged on top for our sweet crepe because we were sharing it between the 3 of us. I smell bullshit when I hear it especially when I see no signs around against sharing. Saint Malo – Mushrroms, Cheese, Egg and Tomatoes Savoury Crepe ($11.50) Being nearly lunch time us ladies decided to try the savoury crepes – too daring to just have a sweet one for lunch. The camembert I chose had melted camembert cheese, pine nuts and salad with honey drizzled on top of a savoury crepe. The crepe itself tasted like cereal – think ironman, weatbix the ones that are healthy for you but don’t taste great. The honey, salad and cheese combo tasted really strange – it won’t kill you to eat it but it wasn’t an enjoyable experience either. Camembert – Came

Been yolo-ing whenever I am in Adelaide, just to round up the weekend which gave me a good reason to indulge in sweets. And so, without further ado, here's yet another sweet post from yours truly:) This place had probably appeared in quite a few publications and conveniently located near Rundle Street, I did not see a reason to not pop by for afternoon tea. Yes, I have been growing fond of afternoon tea sessions aka a great pick me up moment. Menu wise, everything consisted of crepes (as indicated by the cafe's name) and diners have a choice of having two crepes or a single crepe with their choice of filling. Both sweet and savoury options are available and prices do vary. Oh, and there is also a selection of pastries and tarts sitting at the front counter, just to tease;) Lemon meringue tart ~ sufficiently tart to my liking although the bits of piped meringue were a bit err....whipped off? Nevermind that. Le Augustine aka crepe filled with nutella, banana, chocolate and topped with st

Ever had that urge to hop on a plane and go somewhere far far away… like say Paris? Yeah, me too but it ain’t happening anytime soon! Instead, the next best thing on where one can get authentic Parisian crepes is found on the East End of the city at the newly opened and highly popular, Le Carpe Diem Creperie on Grenfell Street a few doors down from East End Yiros . Front counter and cabinet display of French pastries and desserts The trio of us arrived to a packed cafe with no spare seats but we tried our luck and asked the waiter for a table for three expecting an estimated wait time. Instead, we were led upstairs (!) where they had more seating available. Who knew there was a hidden stair case behind the back – score! The cafe was decked out in old vintage looking clocks, lots of French-esque paintings, prints and artwork, French motifs such as the Eiffel Tower in forms of little statues and paintings, a variety of decorative lighting fixtures and a window bench seat with an array of

Carpe Diem was a Latin phrase used by Horace in about 23 BC meaning “Seize the day”. Here the phrase has been put amongst some French words to refer to a French crepe restaurant at 230 Grenfell Street. The restaurant features French-speaking waiting staff and a range of savoury and sweet crepes.
