Review Little Nnq - Adelaide

Michelle Lam
Had a delicious sour fish soup. The service was attentive even though we were sitting outside, but not overbearing. I would love to see more vegetarian options on the menu.

We ordered Pho HotPot and that was the best decision. We just loved that! Other dishes were nice too. We came 2 3 times and haven’t been disappointed so far. You must try.

Went with a group of 12 and the overall consensus was the food was pretty average. Some dishes were great and some not. All beautifully presented though. Service was super slow, we had to ask twice for water and even drinks ordered took over an hour. Long waits even between dishes coming out (some people were finished before others had received their meal). When dessert was served there was no cutlery. I personally have allergies and was concerned when I had to explain what dairy was… if I weren’t there for a friend I don’t think I would have risked eating there. Staff were friendly. Bathrooms were not well maintained, no soap and bins overflowing.

Moist pork belly. Stir fry noodles is very Asian. Pho is tasty.
Merci on Tour
We had a wonderful time. Food was delicious and a wonderful service.
Higgy Somerhalder
Food is nice big portions. However, the service and hospitality can be better.

We had an absolutely awful experience. So disappointing because we had heard really amazing things. We booked a table (not a walk in) - ordered several entrees to share, an hour and 15 minutes after waiting (while watching all the tables around us- who ordered after us - get their food) we were then told they had “run out” of what we ordered. Also took 30 minutes, each time, to get the two drinks we had. We were then charged a 15% surcharge for eating one entree between 4 people and left with zero acknowledgment or apology. Oh and .. they forgot to take all the food we didn’t get, off our bill.

Great value for money dishes! Food was very fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly! Well done NNQ you've done it again!

Things are not what they were. We have followed nnq since ferryden park. The city didnt have drinks or meals we wanted thst were on the menu. Disappointing when it was a bday dinner for someone.

The best Asian meal I have ever had, this coupled with excellent service makes this restaurant a"must go again soon"venue.
Annie Geale
The flavours of the 5 dishes we ordered were very different, menu didn't explain exactly wat vegetables u were being served. Their pho soup wasn't as hot as u would like and As i had to buy 2 as they only do little ones the second was totally cold by the time I was ready for it, would love if they put on their menu for large bowls sold b so much better and we might come back, first timers so would b nice to try other things on their menu.
Imogen
There was actually a hair in food but I’m sure it was a rare occurrence for them and they gave me a discount because of it. Overall this place is amazing and all the food is great. Really good vibes.
Kenny Mac
A terrible place that promotes discrimination against disabled people. Should update your policies and educate your staff better. Totally unacceptable

Vegetarian boring and expensive for something with so few cheap ingredients.<br/><br/>Other dishes have all that Viet mix of bright flavours, colours fresh herbs custom sauces. And value for money<br/><br/>Vegetarian beef salad is colourless and narrow flavours.<br/><br/>And expensive for a few slices of fried tofu and shredded vegetables.

Was recommended to try the ones in Woodville but because the hotel we stayed is in the city we decided to try this one. <br/><br/>The only food we like is the fried chicken. <br/><br/>The pork was dry and tough, the fish soup was overly sweet, the pancake pretty much tasteless and way too thick. <br/><br/>Judging from the rating here we would like to think that we have ordered the wrong food. <br/><br/>Service was so so.. and the place was so bloody hot. I also find that the restaurant is too dark can hardly see the food.

I hadn't been back to this place in 3-4 years but had a hankering for vietnamese one warm night. Little NNQ is always a reliable, cheap and quick option in C/Town. Two entrees (banh mi, mini beef noodle soup), two large mains (fried chicken, slow-cooked duck), rice, two non-alcoholic drinks came swiftly and all up was under $80.
Jimmi Mao
waited for nearly 50 minutes for a dish which forgotten by the chef or waitress. Food is normal, certainly overrated. Waste time and quite expensive.
Suraksha Mattoo
Quick service and good food. We ordered few starters and a main which was enough for 2 of us. Prefer dining in or user eats - it is worth a try.

A friend referred us to little NNQ and I was a lil hesitant to go thinking it would be very fine dine and little did we know that the food is not only good but affordable as well. Not only taste but quantity to every dish was also good. Staff was courteous and prompt. Tried one of the cocktails also and was good too.

Just not as good as I expected. Had heard amazing things about the original NNQ in woodville but went here as im close to the city. Food was just all covered in sauce and abit sloppy. Some dishes were great but a a majority i wasn't too impressed. And out table was covered in a slippery greasy type coating which was literally wetting our clothes and when mentioned they did nothing. Will try the original place next time I hear it's better
XiaoHui Teo
Definitely one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide. Been to their original restaurant in woodville and I have to say this branch does live up to the their standard. Definitely go for their sugar cane prawn cold roll on your visit here.
Tasty-treats
Went here last night with a bunch of friends of varying dietary needs including a vegan and one who has never ventured further than pub meals. We loved the food and also had an extra member and this was no problem. <br/>I had the beef noodle soup and sugar prawn cold rolls both *Delicious*. The boy had the fried chicken (of course) with satay sauce LOVED IT!!! Other dishes were salt and pepper eggplant, Nasi Goreng, tofu with tomatoes and the beef salad. Everyone was impressed with the flavour and portion size. Great location warm and busy so you can relax and have a great bite. <br/>The staff could be a bit nicer but not a massive problem as the food was great!! Definitely going back.
Sam Lee
The original NNQ is way much better than this. Staff with limited English and were confused when we wanted to substitute spring rolls with grilled meatballs. I think they did not understand what "grilled" meant. Not only did they not apologise for stuffing up our orders, the waitress who took our order came out to emphasise that it was our fault for not telling her that we actually wanted "grilled pork" instead of the Pho beef balls. Anyways, I'm glad it was my last time dining there. We still apologised to the waitress for our "alleged mistake" just in case one of them would spit in our food!
BRUTAL
Just like the bigger NNQ in Woodville only smaller e.g. smaller premises and smaller menu.<br/><br/>Still plenty of tasty items to order, generally good value for money.<br/>Consistently good all round.<br/>Very friendly service and generally busy so arrive early as they don`t take bookings
Global Gastronomista
This one seems to be hit or miss. I have been here a few times with groups of friends and the offering hasn’t lived up to expectations. The servings were considerably smaller than I was expecting. The service hasn’t ever been as good as the original NNQ in Woodville, this may be due to the size of the restaurant and the amount of people squeezed in. Mistakes with orders, drinks gone missing and slow service. Make the effort to drive to the NNQ in Woodville, give this one a miss.
Fitmar
Quality fresh great Vietnamese food. Much smaller then the Woodville location hence the name however the decor and set up in the inside is beautiful. I had a noodle bowl and it was so fresh! I loved every minute of it. My friend is a vegan and she has ease finding meals to suit her needs and the waiter was very helpful to reassure the ingredients. Awesome time, awesome meal

Fresh, fast and tasty roll your own rice paper rolls! Definitely my go to when I come here! Full of flavour and cane out so fast! The back area was nice and quiet, and the staff were lovely
Chef On The Run!!
I ordered for asian platter which had springrolls,ricerolls,satays!!<br/>Food was pretty good, beef rolls were lil dry though!!<br/>Staff was attentive but were not aware about the menu, when asked any questions about it.<br/>

All time favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Adelaide. Absolutely love all their dishes. Must try if you're in the city. Service is good & the ambience is great.
Always Hungry
Love this place, can’t fault it. I go almost every month and it’s always good. Only thing I can fault is that you can’t book. Also not good for first dates or meetings as it’s very loud. Try the Pork Belly Clay Pot with eggs it’s amazing

After many times visiting NNQ Woodville I thought I'd try out Little NNQ for a quick work lunch. The menu was much smaller but still a good selection to choose from. Welcoming staff, dishes came out reasonably quick and tasty. Although lovely I have to say I my fave is still the Woodville restaurant.

awesome lunch menu, tasted delicious, came out very quickly and great service. will be coming back on a regular basis. keep up the good work!
Can't Be Bothered To Cook
It's taken me a little while to write this review as our experience was so mixed. This seems to reflect other experiences on this site. Some dishes were very nice - pork belly - some were distinctly ordinary - soups tasty but full of noodles and little else, meat fatty, salads ditto and noodles and not much else and too many hot dishes arriving at the table tepid at best.<br/>Place wasn't busy and service fine .... but barely eaten dishes removed without query or comment ... if they don't really care if you enjoyed their food why care to return <br/>There are lots of lovely Vietnamese and other Asian food opportunities on Gouger St and nearby - I'll try those next time
Tram Nguyen
Good vietnamese food. We ordered few different dishes and all were really delicious 😋 happy to visit here again. Recommend for anyone looking for Vietnamese restaurant

Little NNQ is a place we’ve passed many times and it always looks full. An offshoot of the original Nghi Ngan Quan in Woodville, this place has fast become a popular dining spot the restaurants filled Gouger Street. Everytime I think of having Vietnamese food I only ever seek out Pho or Bun Bo Hue so it was a bit different ordering dishes that night.
Victor Reddington
The food was nice enough but the serving sizes were very, very small and the restaurant was extremely crowded. All in all it was okay. Would I return? If someone else had planned a gathering yeah. But I wouldn't come on my own given the number of high quality restaurants on gouger street<br/>

Bad !! Bad !! Never ever go back again! It was the worst ever! We paid over $50 and only had a couple of mouthfuls!! We asked if we could change the meal as the soft shell crab was nothing but just all batter and no actual meat but the waiter only gave us the option to order more! Are you guys for real??? They offered us to put in a doggy bag but seriously I wouldn't even give it to my dog !!! <br/>Thanks for a waste of money, time and effort!

The food was a joke. Such a disappointment. The dishes were tasteless...presentation was plain. We ordered Tamarind soft shell crab...it was all flour and oil...there's not even a trace a tamarind. The salt and pepper mushroom was mediocre. The whole experience was pitiful. The staff are rude and racists. If it's any consolation for those who still think of eating there, the ambiance is ok, I guess. But for those who have any sense, don't. You are better off spending money somewhere that serves tasty dishes and worthwhile experience.

Fantastic food at low prices, lovely staff and quick food service. Highly recommend this restaurant. We had a group of 13 and they were very accommodating
Mary
Went here last night after 6pm and it was quiet. When we were seated the waiter asked if we'd be done by 7.30pm, which we said that we would be.  Slowly our entree came out but then our mains took a long time about after 7.10pm, considering that we had to be done by 7.30pm!  The waiter hadn't said anything to us by the time it was 7.30pm so we thought that he had moved the previous booking to another table. NO! the other couple arrived and we overheard the waiter pointing at us saying to them "that was your table but those girls are taking too long!" and tried to find them another seat. Um excuse me! Who even says/ does that!? You could've shown us a table outside or somewhere else as there was plenty of seating with no reserved signs on them AND you could've bought all our food together or not so late! rude service and hard to get the attention of anyone. We also noticed that he had a go at another group for not asking to be seated on a table outside. It definitely ruined the night and NEVER going back there and will be letting others know.

A great vietnamese restaurant. Sometime the service isnt up to scratch but other times its great.<br/><br/>I love the menu and how everything can be shared easily.<br/><br/>

Little NNQ is pretty close to my place so I'm a regular customer. Nice environment and atmosphere. All dishes are decent, especially the quail, they also have some nice noodle soup. However, their soft drinks, not so much.
D.Dalbz
Good little vietnamese restaurant, fast service food is tasty the lunch menu was extremely cheap and the viet ca-fę is really good, kept me buzzing for the rest of the arvo.
TPD
Too sweet for my taste. The pork belly was too dry and the sauce just sugar syrup. Also the fish cutlets weren't cooked for hours to develop the flavours as the traditional dish should be. Being vietnamese, I guess I expected things to be close to my mum's home cooking. The water spinach were good though.
Marcus
The best restaurant I've been to in the last 2 years. Awesome atmosphere and interior design to go along with beautiful food, so tasty, authentic and the value for money is absolutely fantastic. Couldn't recommend it enough. Make sure to book, however, it is very full at prime time.
Samantha
Had a really delicious dinner here! We sat on the balcony upstairs which was well heated and comfortable. Doesnt quite compare to the old place in woodville but still good flavours and service.
Peter Zeus
Pho is a little oily but nice. Spring rolls are amazing. Service is good and friendly. Easy to find. Finding a car park is a little awkward but being on Hinley Street is understandable. Overall no major complaints. Happy to go back again.

Little NNQ seems a little out-of-place on Gouger Street. With its wood paneling, more exposed brick and Thomas Edison light bulb pendants, its décor is very modern, very typically now. The Vietnamese restaurant would seemingly be more at home on uber cool Peel Street than amongst the stalwarts of Gouger Street.<br/><br/>However, the food is right at home on the Asian eat street, and being the offspring of Ferryden Park’s popular Vietnamese restaurant, Nghi Ngan Quan, I would expect so. In fact, our spring rolls, salt and pepper oyster mushrooms, and stuffed squid with tomato sugo were so good my eating partner Alison nearly ate it all while I was telling a big long, overinflated story. Stop talking! More eating!<br/><br/>For me, Little NNQ (which is not so little, with a front courtyard, back courtyard, upstairs and downstairs) is a very welcome face alongside my Gouger Street favourites. You just might need to remind the waiter that water is a handy commodity, as is an ice bucket for our Fiano left sitting to warm on the table.

Third time here for dinner. On a Wednesday night at 6.30pm the place was packed with punters and the atmosphere was buzzing. Seated at the back with no reservation, we got lucky. As I walked passed the kitchen I noticed the army of people in there working away in unison. Usually there are around 3 or 4 chefs/cooks in a Asian restaurant but there seemed to be at least 10 in there ! Our food and the food of the surrounding tables came out within minutes of ordering. Perhaps If you're looking for a slow romantic dinner, this is not the place. But this pace suited us fine. There was sharp piece of plastic in one of the cold rolls around the size of 5c coin. A bit of a nasty surprise. Made no fuss and told the waiter who quickly apologised and took the entree of the bill. <br/>The pork belly never fails. Massive almost fist size chunks of melt in the mouth pork belly. Fried snapper wasn't what we expected. Very chewy. Nice flavours and big portion. Exotic rice at $15 could of been a tiny bit more. Delicious though. The small hipster jam jars for your water is a little yesterday, I would of preferred a normal glass. The water is flavoured with cumbers which is nice. I will return. Stella our waitress was ... Stella !
Andrew Millard
The food was nicely flavored. My pork serving included a slab of fat (not crackling) of about 100g. Extremely staggered serve times such that the 1st main to last main was served over 25 minutes (table of 6). I'd heard good things about this place so was disappointed.
EMEL
After 25 minutes of dining, we were told that we had to finish in 10 minutes because there are people waiting. This has never happened to us anywhere. Used to be our favourite restaurant but because of them trying to get a lot of customers in and thus they make hurried tasted meals due to the overbooking they have been doing, I think I have to re-review them again if I think I want to re-evaluate them again.
The Munchkin
Its a nice place, good ambience. service was good and hardly waited 5 minutes for the food to arrive. There is a different set of menu , lunch and dinner which serves different items. Hence, had the combination rice with the pork chop which was crispy and moist. Also greatly recommend the vermicelli salad with the combination of spring rolls, beef, Sugar cane prawn and grilled pork balls. All the individual components were done well and the meat was marinated well. Would definitely return again for more.
Emma Henderson
Massive and delicious servings! Staff were happy enough to let me take my food home in a doggy bag, as there was so much! For $25 I got 3 amazing spring rolls, a mini Bahn mi and a giant combination noodle salad! Incredibly low prices, and delicious and large servings of food! Will definitely be back.
Rachel
Banquet with a large group of people. Great and friendly service. Great variety of food, all fresh and a little different to your standard vietnamese restaurant. The vietnamese expresso martini is a must.
Hil
Had the salt and pepper mushrooms and prawns with veggies. Really tasty. Everything was fresh and service was fast and friendly. Definitely will return here.
Alice Jeffrey
The combination vermicelli salad is hands down one of the best lunches I've ever had. The portion size is outrageous and the flavours and array of ingredients is phenomenal.
Mark Anthony
I love this place the food and service is great. The fresh make yourself rice paper rolls are delist. We also had pho, special rice, salt pepper squid, chicken curry and the fillet steak. The steak is the best. Will return next time I'm Adelaide

We had a late lunch on Friday arvo. The restaurant was not busy when we walked in but many people followed after. There was only one staff present hence it took him a while to bring the menus. I ordered the vegetarian spring rolls for appetisers. The homemade lemonade was good and complemented our meals. I ordered the caramelised prawns and salt and pepper squid with steam rice. The prawns were bug snd tasty and enjoyed the sauce. The salt and pepper squid was yummy too. Great meal and were glad to have eaten here!

Just stopped in for a quick lunch in this little homely feeling place and the quick stop was treated with very fast service. I choose the traditional huè spiced beef/pork noodle soup and it was fantastic. Not normally a dish I would go for, but glad I did. Luck I only had the 1 dish as it was huge, tasty and authentic. Would like to try more of the menu another day👏. 👍😀

Went here, again because of the mention in the 2016 restaurant guide from a travelling gourmet magazine. We ushered upstairs to a very unappealing area (wine boxes and storage area were next to the eating area) but were not disappointed once the food arrived. We had the chicken curry (a more subtle and flavoursome version of a green curry) absolutely delicious, we were even savouring the broth and working out the spices used. The silken tofu was silken (often tofu is lumpy/solid) - delightful and the tomato sauce was nice but the tomato flavour was subdued. The chilli salt squid (aka calamari rings) was nice and spicy - though a little chewy ( was unable to tell if it was fresh (eg fish markets) or frozen/commercially supplied. The exotic rice was a very welcome change from 'special fried rice.'The service was friendly, helpful and very professional. An unexpected delight/pleasure was found here. My experience of Vietnamese is usually local Pho restaurants so this was my first venture to a more formal Vietnamese restaurant and we were definitely not disappointed. It made for a wonderful dinner for our last night in Adelaide.Would highly recommend Little NNQ for anyone looking for a great dining experience on Gouger Street or in the CBD area.

I really want to come back to little NNQ. I think what I ate was good but didn't tap into their full potential- I know this because I went with a group of friends and half the table ordered things to share and the other half ordered differently- the envy running through my veins at what the other half had ordered was immense.<br/><br/>Shared the cold rolls first and what a way to start- huge size and a great talking point and I really think people love getting involved in experiences when out together.<br/>The salt and pepper mushrooms were fab- like nothing I've ever tried and a texture not dissimilar to squid.<br/>The noodles of course were a knockout and I could eat them alone every day for the rest of forever.<br/>So the silken tofu was in a sugo that I think was too sweet and seemed a bit artificially thickened.<br/><br/>Down the other end of the table the duck and banana blossom salad, pork belly and curry were all calling my name so I'll have to come back to try those because the smells were so amazing.<br/>Great service<br/>Great night.
Sarah Oh
I have been here multiple times, and have always been impressed with my meal. The food is always really tasty and has that lovely fresh, clean and wholesome feel about it.
Gastro Junkie
I believe the hype! No wonder you have to book to get into this place. Every one of us loved our dishes, loved our drinks and the atmosphere is excellent. I couldn't possibly pick on anything. Prices are ridiculously cheap for the quality and quantity of food!
Kittie
Best spring rolls in town!<br/>I have been here twice now and both times were amazing! It's a busy little place, but definitely worth it!<br/>Authentic flavours with a modern twist, and reasonably priced.<br/>Everything we ordered at our table was delicious. Really loved the salt & pepper oyster mushrooms, and of course those crispy spring rolls! Another fave was the caramelized pork belly, not sure what the eggs were coated in but they were absolutely AMAZING! Can't wait to try the whole menu!
Chips Before Dips
Very busy restaurant, and once you try it you'll see why. Reasonably priced, moorish and fresh flavoursome food, and delicious cocktails. Great night out!
MeetAdelaide
This place has been on my list of places to try for a long time, so I was very excited to finally make it here and first impressions didn’t disappoint. Decked out with wood, exposed brick and funky newspaper wallpaper, it is upmarket and funky but in a bustling and cosy sort of way. While Little NNQ is, as the name implies, little, they do have seating space outside plus a second upstairs area plus balcony.
Angie-Marie Piantadosi
we were lucky enough to walk in and get a table on a super busy Saturday night and we are so glad we did! we went with the waiters recommendations and ordered what they had suggested and everything was AMAZING! the exotic fried rice is to die for and was my favorite dish of the night! the wait staff were really nice and insightful teaching us how to eat certain dishes.
Blackcherriess
You might want to make a reservation if you're heading over during peak hours. I have been here for a few dinners ever since its opening and each time, I was very satisfied. Love the idea of making your own cold rolls and the options available were delicious~ banana blossom salad was eye opening and the jellyfish salad was really fresh. Definitely worth going back again AND again!
ForkInGoodFood
One of the best things to ever happen to Adelaide, Little NNQ!!! If you havn't been here before then it is a MUST. If you've been there 10 times before then go 10 more. The food & atmosphere is great. The Oyster Mushrooms are to die for!
The Streets Of Adelaide
I love Little NNQ. It's super fresh Vietnamese food. The soft shell crab is so delicious and tangy. Love the wanton soup entree as well. The duck salad is also one of my favourites. It's relatively new compared to a lot of places on Gouger but it's one of my favourites. I also like the fried rice, it could be a meal in itself as it is so packed with meat. Be sure to book though as it's super popular.

Suddenly got the crave for some bun bo hue, so I decided to pop over to Little NNQ. First thing that strikes me was the brilliant interior of Little NNQ, it was poppy and had a modern feel. The food came out quite quickly and staff was extremely helpful and attentive. The bun bo hue, i got to say is one of the best i've eaten in Adelaide. It was bursting with flavour and the striking red colour of the broth showed how naturally spicy it is. Really great food for any occassion.
Lemongrass
Is it just me or do you also find that when you have a favourite restaurant for a particular cuisine you sometimes can't help but compare everything back to what you feel is the benchmark. <br/><br/>This is the predicament I found myself in with Little NNQ. Every dish I ate I was automatically (and perhaps unfairly) being mentally compared back to my favourite Vietnamese haunt in the Western suburbs. Every dish I ate went something like this: "it's good but it not as good as...."<br/><br/>So, if you have never had the Viet foodie experience before Little NNQ will comfortably tick the box. Everything is tasty and fresh. It's good. For me though, I won't be rushing back simply because I think there is better quality, more legit / authentic and better value venues doing this food only 15 min drive out of the city. <br/><br/>Before I depart I must share a foodie first for me. When I walked in and asked for a table for four the young waiter guy behind the counter got out a pen and a scrap of paper and wrote me a little note. With his smiling face he held it up for me to read " I have lost my voice. Someone will come soon" ha, voiceless waiters. Not ideal but pretty funny. <br/><br/>Worth a visit if you are not in a position to travel down to that otherworld that is Hanson road to get your Viet foodie fix.
Laura
Excellent modern Vietnamese in a beautiful restaurant. I could go here just for the salt & pepper oyster mushrooms and morning glory! The salads are great, too. But damn those mushrooms are amazing!! The staff are really friendly, too. Excellent wine list.
Eating Adelaide
I'm always intrigued by the menu at Little NNQ, they've got some interesting things that you wouldn't normally see in addition to the classics. It's always so busy but the service is always above average and they get meals out reasonably quickly. Yum!
David Chatty Chatwin
If you love good fusion, then Little NNQ is a must do. Great service, great service and excellent prices. <br/><br/>The staff here understand gluten free and they even have gluten free spring rolls - something we haven't been able to find any where else. <br/><br/>The wine list could be better, but the food makes up for the brevity of the stone list.<br/><br/>Highly recommended.

My wife and I went in for a late dinner one night and were quickly seated and served.  Food was tasty and service was good without any delays.  Highly recommended.

Three letters - MSG. I have been looking forward to this eatery, which is the offspring of the parent restaurant Nghi Ngan Quan in Ferryden Park hoping it would be an improvement. The interior is modern and has good ambiance lighting. They have two menus; one for lunch and one for dinner. We were there for dinner on a Saturday evening. I found the options to be limited, but what they do have is not too bad, however, the use of MSG is very evident throughout all dishes. <br/><br/>Despite all that, I believe it will be very popular amongst those who aren't Vietnamese food purists. The price is higher, but understandable considering its prime location. Service was ok, not bad, not great. Averaging at $30 per head.<br/><br/>Note: table water can have a hint of mandarin, orange or celery, so if you don't like that, ask for tap water.
Love Goodfood
Amazing quality for money!. Open for Saturday lunch we stumbled on NNQ and were delighted we did. Looking around at all the abundant and colourful dishes coming out before we ordered, was amazed to see the prices on the lunch menu. $11 for a good sized meal! The food was way above average for Gouger St. Delicious & had interesting complex flavours. So pleased there is a good Vietnamese on Gouger now. Cocktail & coconut creme caramel also delicious, creative & cheap! Deserts were $4-$7. I thought decore was funky & not sterile like many of Gouger St's Asian restaurants & it has an airy upstairs area & balcony. Excellent value & classy!
Sammi_jdm
Don't bother. Overly sweet, westernised dishes that gave me the insulin spike of a 7 year old on sherbet.

I'm sure this is the hipster in me, but I actually loathe this place. Yes I want Vietnamese food to be celebrated, but I have such a problem with the idiotic interior design and styling of this place. The mason jars are infuriating and the space is so dark and awkward. As for the food itself, it's okaaaay. I guess there is a bit of a gap in the city when it comes to good Viet dinner options, but this just seems like a wasted opportunity. I wanted this place to be so much better damn it!
FoodBean
Excellent. Good food, quick service, excellent little restaurant. Glad we tried it - we had lots to choose from!

Disappointed as a return customer. I remember I went with few friends during hot summer time, it was such a great visit! We sat upstairs, the service staffs were so friendly and attentive! Food and cocktail was good. So I was so keen to go back...But...It was really disappointed, sat downstairs, noisy and also the staffs seems like they are so sick of their job, the face were so black. Understand they might be tired ,don't expect them to smile but at least as a customer, we would like to feel being welcomed? Food was also very average. Hope you guys can keep the consistency in your standard.

I ABSOLUTLEY LOVED IT!. Have been there twice so far within two weeks time and that certainly proves my love for little NNQ! Food is phenomenal ( I eat out on Gouger street all the time and food here certainly raise the standards!!) The portion here is massive compared to other asian restaurants in Chinatown neighbourhood. The first time we went there was for a 21st bday so the focus on that night was not so much about the food but the second time we went back just for the exceptional food indeed!! It was four of us and we ordered the spring rolls for starters and the duck banana salad (this dish stands out just BANG BANG and it's unbelievably yummy, I will strongly recommend this gorgeous dish to anyone who wants to visit little NNQ in the future), Chicken curry( it's pretty damn good as one of us is a huge curry fan and she loved it but it's really not part of the Vietnamese cuisine after all), Fried silken tofu with tomato sugo (OMG this is the paradise for gluten free slash vegetarians! I didn't expect it to be so splendid until I had the first bite on the silken tofu, IT'S DEVINE), Slow cooked caramelised pork belly with eggs ( pork belly nearly melted in my mouth and guess that's a good sign hey!). From I can recall at our first visit, we had this beautiful cocktail in a jar and tastes like pho, its a go-for drink if u fancy pho and alcohol just as much as I do :) Service is pretty prompt but kinda lack of a little bit enthusiasm, overall it was a pleasant trip down Gouger street on a Thursday night. <br/><br/>I never really wrote reviews for any of my dining out experience but this time I was so pumped to do so just for little NNQ. I am going to book a table for me and my bestie tonight and hope little NNQ will keep up the good work and spoil me with its marvellous food!
Pear
Currently my favourite!. This place is currently my favourite restaurant - I'm also not so into the jam jars for drinking, but the food is absolutely divine so I couldn't care less about what I'm drinking from.<br/><br/>The tamarind soft shell crab is delicious. I think it's great value for money, I've always been impressed with very friendly, smiley service. Have chosen Little NNQ for (roughly) 10 of the last 12 times we'v eaten out. Can't get enough!!

Check your bill. My husband and kids had the pork belly, and it was served not fresh and way too fat. We believed they were prepared days in advance and to heat up from the freezer(?) to serve. The waitress, chubby Asian girl, was very unfriendly and rude when we asked for extra sauce. She didn't serve us the extra sauce but it was charged to our table. So it's worth to double check your bill before you pay. Room to improve? Yes, friendly smile needed especially with the price you pay to get served.

Too busy, too noisy and I don't like drinking out of jam jars. Mains very so so

OMG best spring rolls ever!!! And I don't even like spring rolls!
TJ
Wonderful restaurant that is suffering from the relocation of its manager jennifer, being left in the hands of an incapable, incompetant, unknowledgable sexist idiot with terrible people and fashion skills.

Food came out really fast which was great. Looked and tasted very fresh. Had the chilli squid-yum, spring rolls, slow cooked beef stew, chicken curry and the lemongrass pork belly. I have to say that most dishes were nice and flavorsome and well proportioned but the chicken curry was quite bland and the pork belly was overcooked. <br/>We did have to chase our bottle of wine that we ordered a couple of times and I do agree with the other review on here... Why are we drinking out of old jam jars? Trendy...? Perhaps. Practical...? No.

Fabulous every time!. We come here every time we are in Adelaide and have never been disappointed! It's well priced and always delivers, on both food and service! Love, love, love it!!

Jam jars for glasses?????. Not impressed with this latest craze of Jam Jars, uncomfortable to drink from. We arrived early and the service was great, but the food was a bit disappointing, we chose the Lobster with noodles special, when it arrived it looked like it was overcooked, when tasted it was overcooked and very tasteless. The menu is different to NNQ and I must admit I prefer their selection.
Helen
Have been wanting to try the younger Little NNQ for a while. Not disappointed at all. Service was a little slow to start but once we we ordered the food came thick and fast. Sugar cane prawn cold rolls with spicy dip.....yum! Duck and banana blossom salad....yum! Fresh and aromatic ingredients. Pork belly great and stuffed squid quite good. We left full and satisfied with a very reasonable bill. Thanks Jennifer and crew!

Best dining experience. Cannot believe that this place has 78% and not atleast 90%! I came here for dinner last week with 2 friends and I can honestly say that it was one of the best dining experiences I have ever come across. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was unreal. Cold rolls are exceptionally fresh & beautifully presented, followed by a delicious duck salad, chicken curry, water spinach and amazing chilli squid! Will definitely be returning here, 10/10!

Uberlicious...... We just love this place and the original NNQ. The service was exceptional and super friendly, they really care about their customer feedback, which seems to be lacking at many establishments in Adelaide these days. The food was just fantastic, especially the sticky rice with sausage, great mouth feel! There have been a few restaurants in this particular space and I have been to every one of them, even back in the days of L' Guillotine (an old favourite). I hope to see this Little NNQ stay put for a while........
FYI
Brilliant!. Great atmosphere, cheap, quick service, delicious meals, not your typical cheap Asian restaurant like many others on Gouger Street. Book cause it gets busy. Loved it!
Vickothefoodo
Food was very flavour some and cetainly not lacking any flavour. The spring rolls were a little spicy for me although my partner liked them. The NNQ rice was amazing on the tastebuds. We finished off our meal with homemade lemonade which was refreshing. Service was great and very quick! Would go back.

Awesome. Great food and awesome service. Very friendly staff and great prices. Highly recommended.

Excellent. Called in late Sunday, Food was excellent as was the service though could of got away with a dish less than what we ordered. very well priced for the quality of cooking. Good beer & wine list. Will be back.

We were so thoroughly impressed with our Little NNQ experience the food was amazing, loved all the dishes we tried so hearty. The waitresses were so lovely especially Jen who welcomed us in, arranged a table for us without a booking on a very busy Friday night & checked on us a number of times, def shout out to her! Not only was the food, drinks & staff great but so were the prices. Priced so reasonably well, affordable for any types of ppl... Keep rocking it... We'll definitely be back!!!
Caro
Ordinary. In a nutshell. Great spring rolls. Impressive wine list - looks as though they have had someone in who knows what they are doing. Service ok. Maybe a little clumsy but they try. Curry really ordinary - watery and tough. I would like to think there are better around so I won't be back.

Food ok.. Had dinner here recently, the venue was very busy which was a good sign, good atmosphere, nice surroundings & friendly staff. We ordered our food & literally the 1st two items come out within 5 mins! the 3rd was a little while later, the soft shell crab was a little bit 'mushy', so was the stir fry water spinach. The food was ok, but just felt like they lacked a little flavour. We were happy with our meal, but next time will maybe order something other.

Great lunch menu!. Simple, delicious, friendly, good value. I had the combination vermicelli salad which was fresh but could do with a bit more sauce. Highly recommended.
Hungry In Hawthorn
Wonderful. Dined a couple of weeks ago and shared the sugar cane prawn roll your own cold rolls. Delicious and would have been plenty for me but my husband wanted more. Had slow cooked pork and egg which had amazing flavours and green veg in garlic sauce which was delicious. Friendly service and a great spot in the window.

Ms Metts. Absolutely loved it. The staff are friendly and humorous. Beautiful decor and the food is amazing. What else could you ask for? Totally recommend

Tasty!. Tasty pho and rolls! Will return!

Great for lunch, not recommended for dinner. They have a great lunch menu of noodle soups, vietnamese salads, DIY cold rolls etc. But the dinner menu is completely different. You can't get the noodle soups or salads for dinner; instead they have a strange mishmash of items that don't seem to work. I've tried 4 items from the dinner menu - the stuffed squid (which actually has chicken in it, despite no mention of it on the menu), the tamarind barramundi, the mushrooms and the soft shell crab. Noneof them were particularly nice. They were covered in a sickly sweet sauce that just overwhelmed everything else on the plate. I will go back for lunch, but not for dinner.

Fresh fast and delicious. Trendy new restaurant with fabulous menu and wonderful food. Still finding their feet at busy times but friendly welcoming staff and fast service. Special fried rice and salt n pepper squid were highlights. Good selection of craft beers.

Simple vietnamese food pretending to be expensive.. A far cry from the real NNQ in ferryden park. The real NNQ serves large, generous delicious portions, little NNQ is a waste of money and time. Convenient location but i won't go back.

Penny Pincher. 24 bucks or something for 4 prawns. Yeah, ok.... Vietnamese food without the Generousity. I payed 120 for dinner, left hungry. Come on seriously... 4 prawns. <br/><br/>I go to gin long, pay 120 leave feeling full.
Kai
Fabulous food and service just like the original restaurant, my only complaint would be the 5$ I was charged for "home made" cordial that came out in a jar. <br/><br/>Strike 2 - jars, not glasses. I didn't come to hang out at a Melbourne hipsters house. When I sip my drink I prefer that it doesn't dribble all over my chi

Looking outward. If you potter on down to Pennington or Rosewater or Ferryden Park and go to the Than Nu Y or the Nghi Ngan Quan or the Vietnam or one of the multitude of Vietnamese eateries there what you see, it seems to me, it the Vietnamese community cooking for the community. Good honest food cooked by people who know just what it tasted like back home for people who expect it to taste like it tasted back home.<br/><br/>Sure those of us who aren't a part of the community are welcome to go along and join in and thank God for it because now we know about Pho and Broken Rice and Sugar cane prawns and we've made our own cold rolls and it's great and we're come to love it.<br/><br/>But really, if we didn't go along to the Than Nu Y or the Nghi Ngan Quan it'd be more our loss than theirs because they seem to have such a loyal following amongst the Vietnamese community that they'd still be making a dollar and doing gangbusters business without us.<br/><br/>This is especially noticeable at somewhere like the Vietral at Virginia, where Vietnamese cooks are cooking serious Vietnamese food for Vietnamese market gardeners who come in for lunch and probably couldn't give a damn about how it's "plated up" or new tastes or the cutting edge - they want hearty food that tastes like what they like and at a decent price.<br/><br/>And aren't we richer for it?<br/><br/>But if the Big NNQ is the community cooking for itself, then the Little NNQ is something quite different. <br/><br/>For a start the place is run by the children of the people at the original. And it seems to me that if the original is the community's own restaurant then Liitle NNQ is the next generation of the community spreading their wings and bringing the community's food into the wider community.<br/><br/>It's still rich and authentic and delicious but has a level of sophistication and even elegance than you probably don't associate with those Pennington gems. It's like its heart is in Ridley Grove and its head is in Hutt Street.<br/><br/>Take the Pho for instance. Have it out at Grand Junction Road and you can get beef, offal, tendons, meatballs and just about anything else you like, with rice noodles, a forest of herbs and mix your own chilli sauce and all sorts of goodies. It usually comes in a bowl the size of a bucket and it's a great experience.<br/><br/>At Little NNQ it comes as a single entree sized bowl with rare beef and a couple of meatballs. But it still tastes delicious and it tastes like pho - just pho in western clothes I guess.<br/><br/>The menu is full of good things - delicious spring rolls wrapped in rice paper and deep fried; a duck and banana blossom salad that's fantastic; a beef salad that is better than any salad you've ever had; a slow cooked beef stew that like the beef stew you wished your Nanna made; a caramelised pork belly that's outstanding; a range of make your own cold rolls that are delicious; and the water spinach with garlic is a treat.<br/><br/>The setting is really cosy and comfortable, the service is impeccable and the whole experience is really memorable.<br/><br/>Is it the same experience as what you get at Ferryden Park? No, not at all and if you go along there and expect it to be the same then you'll be very confused and probably disappointed. <br/><br/>But go along and see what the kids can do. They're doing Vietnamese, but they're all grown up and doing it in their own grown up way.

No proper Pho????. Very disappointed at this restaurant which is obviously targetted at pocketing $$ from wealthy western customers with a range of high priced dishes with fancy names and such.<br/><br/>Compared with their store at Ferryden Park, this has a been a major letdown.<br/>The small Entree of Rare Beef Pho (which is the only pho you get offered here) was so small and salty for $5, it is not even 1/4 of the $10 same Pho dish you get at the original NNQ! <br/>At NNQ you could just get a huge bowl of a variety of different Pho's while here you are basically forced into main course meals that begin with a price of $15+<br/><br/>Won't be recommending this place to friends, better stick with the proper NNQ which is priced fairly for what it's worth or going to the Yen Linh nearby which actually serves good Pho nearby.

"Exotic fruit dessert". I bought a dessert from little nnq called "exotic fruit dessert". <br/><br/>What I received was some canned lychee in a cup of sugar water and ice.<br/><br/>Not impressed. Absolutely cheap and nasty.

They must use a lot of MSG...was so thirsty afterwards. Small portions compared to the ferryden park restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant. Food is amazing, staff are very efficient & very knowlegable and the restaurant has a great ambience. I've been twice now and will definitely be back. Great to see a bit more diversity in Gouger!!
AH
A warm inviting addition to Gouger Street. We are HUGE fans of LIttle NNQ's sister restaurant, Nghi Ngan Quan, and thought this couldn't be as good. But it is just as good but also completely different. Little NNQ is a sophiscated take on modern Vietnamese Food- my dishes were very reminiscent of the flavours of Hanoi. So yummy! Perhaps the best part of Little NNQ is its warm inviting ambiance and the fantasitc service. Our waiter knew the menu and was able to make recommendations. While we will still visit Nghi Ngan Quan we will also come back here again and again.

Great Food, BUT.... Great food. BUT I had to drink my water our of a threaded jar. WTF. Okay so hipster cafe's try and serve juices in jars, but (1) they don't use jars with threaded lids and (2) this is a Vietnamese restaurant - i.e. not hipster <br/><br/>I wonder if the wine comes in a jam jar?<br/><br/>Management, do yourself a favour and get rod of the tacky jars. Everything else is fine.
Jack
Very average food. Food was below average. Everything seems so sweeeeeeeeet...I mean sugary sweet in the food. Scotch fillet was tough, ate 3 pieces only but still charged FULL. Service also average. Won't be back.
Danielle
Dont bother!. Little nnq is a little joke! If you've been to the one in ferrydon park then dont come here cos you'll just be disappointed. Servings are extremely little, waiting staff know very little. Squid was so overcooked I wouldn't have fed it to an animal

Was so happy when I found this little place. It's so refreshing to have a Asian resturant on gouger street that's fresh and modern with some nice service. <br/>The food was amazing. Fantastic chicken curry ! Il be back very soon

There was nothing to dislike about Little NNQ, good service, good ambience, good food. For all the raving reviews I was almost expecting more of Little NNQ, as the food was good- but not exceptional!!! I would definitely recommend the grilled king prawns, such a well balanced dish!

UK Traveller. Recently visited Little NNQ in Adelaide City centre whilst touring Australia with my wife & family. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anybody. We took the opportunity to experiment and try food that was new to us all. The flavours were fantastic and we all really enjoyed our Vietnamese dining experience. The quality of our meals was superb. Service was efficient & very polite. Atmosphere very warming and vibrant. The wine list was as good as any I have ever seen - the variety of great beers on offer too was a bonus ! Overall we had a wonderful evening and will deffinately be going back on our next visit to Adelaide.

Amazing restaurent.. Service was great and so was the food.

Delicious food and fantastic service to match, not to mention a fantastic atmosphere! The wonton soup is to die for, as is the king prawns and wagu stew.. Will definitely be back for round 2

We normally go to the original shop at Regency but since they open in the city so save time and petrol .<br/> We ordered sugarcane prawn, Pho small one coz they don't have big one even we asked for it. The third dish is beef wrap in leave . <br/> The sugarcane prawn was two pieces instead if three that we used to get at the original shop. Noodle for wrap was dry. The beef noodle soup was hardly noodle in the bowl and very small size for $5 . Overall was ok but we would rather go back to the original shop as we enjoyed it more.
Johnny
Good but not great yet. Overall everything was good, ordered pho and the beef ball was cool might just stick with the original nnq for that

The food is amazing! Salt and pepper mushroom was to die for and the slow cooked pork belly with egg was delish. The homemade lemonade was so tasty, couldn't get enough. Great, friendly, service to boot. Will be going back for sure.

Fabulous!. The best beef noodle soup and wine list in the city! can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Fab opening night at Little NNQ. Went to Little NNQ last Thursday for their first night after being a regular at their original restaurant at Ferryden Park - Nghi Ngan Quan. Beautiful interior and absolutely excellent food. Definately give this a try and order the water spinach with garlic, the beef salad, chargrilled prawns and Vietnamese chicken curry. Some of the best Asian flavours my group of people had ever eaten - and we hardly ever eat at home! Heading back as soon as I can manage it. :-)
Adventures In Winterland
Meeting up with friends for a Gouger St dinner in Adelaide, I picked the new kid on the block – Little NNQ, the outpost of Nghi Ngan Quan. The menu is full of exciting-sounding things: DIY cold rolls, curries, and soups. I ordered the entree sized pho as a starter, which was more like a small main when it came out, full of rare beef, beef balls, onion and noodles. The broth was fabulous and not overly salty, and I was well on my way to full after drinking every last drop. I had the grilled scallops with ginger as...

If you're a fan of Vietnamese food in Adelaide, it's more than likely that you've been to NNQ before. Little NNQ is the newly opened daughter restaurant of NNQ, run by the children of the owners of the original one. The decor is lovely, beautiful wallpapers, adorable jars for drinks and glasshouse candles in the scent 'Saigon'. Certainly a step up from the typical family run Vietnamese restaurant which pays no attention whatsoever to furnishings. The menu is also very different from a typical Vietnamese restaurant. Their only offer of pho was an entree size, and the typical menu of noodle soups and vermicelli salads was completely absent. Instead there was a selection of smaller dishes for entrees, and large (mostly meat based) dishes for mains, likely designed for sharing. The dishes were very out of the ordinary too, combining interesting flavours. I opted for a classic though, sugarcane prawn cold rolls. Although this looks like a lot, I was slightly disappointed with the serving si

“NNQ” stands for “Nghi Ngan Quan” which is the name of the successful parent restaurant in Ferryden Park. With separate lunch time and dinner menus, this place offers all your classic Vietnamese dishes.

What better location can there be than on Gouger Street in Chinatown?  From what I can recall, there had been several restaurants that had opened and closed in this particular location.
