Review Regent Thai Restaurant - Adelaide

john masci
O'Connell Street in North Adelaide has many delights. Just getting into Adelaide from Melbourne, we were spoilt for choice. Finally deciding on Regent Thai, we were not disappointed. Pandam chicken for entree with a sweet yet salty sauce followed by Basil Chicken in a sweet chilli jam and Red Beef Curry for mains which were extremely generous. Accompanied by steamed jasmine rice and servings of roti. Meals were excellent and service was quick and sharp. It hard to provide a review based on a first visit but it was really good. Just so tempted to score them 5 stars!! There seemed to be quite a few regulars present and the food that went back to the kitchen went home with customers. Excellent.

The food was AMAZING ❣️ little swift with the clean up of cups and sharing of wine bottles but otherwise fantastic food

Excellent service. Very polite and accommodating. We loved to see service dog and patron allowed with a big smile and respect. Kudos. Food quality Excellent. Generous portion sizes and caters chillies to your taste. I asked for hot and I was not disappointed. Highly recommended. Tip: Book in advance- specially on weekends.

Never disappoints us. I recommend you guys to make a booking in advance because it’s easier for them to deliver the service to you. Staff were very friendly and the foods are the reason why I kept coming back (6 times now) delicious Always busy restaurants but very well organised. I really recommend Regent Thai! Best Thai Restaurant I know so far in Adelaide.

Without a doubt one of the nicest meals I have had anywhere. I have always thought it was hard to get Thai wrong, but these guys take it to a whole new level. Good value, super tasty, good portion sizes and exceptional service.

Brilliant restaurant, great staff and even better food. Came to this lovely little place on Monday night with work and was delighted. Food was exceptionally good, we had a number of dishes all as good as one another. Staff we very friendly and brought our food out in good time. Would highly recommend!

Oh wow!!!! The best authentic Thai food in Adelaide. Every dish we ordered was just amazing. The atmosphere is 5 star, the food is 5 star and the staff are so friendly and professional. The owner Mr T is such a beautiful kind soul who takes alot of pride in the dishes he serves. This is a must try restaurant, believe me you won't be disappointed. I will definately be going back and letting all my friends and family know about this amazing place... Thankyou Mr T and your amazing staff

The restaurant is located in North Adelaide. There are lots of restaurants are around. The restaurant was clean but very old and dated in terms of decor and look. The plates and cutleries were old and unfortunately not very clean a clear sign for a slow business and not very enthusiastic manager and staff. We ordered pat-Thai. Beef curry, salt and pepper crab and jasmine rice. Beef curry was at least two to three days old and the meat was dry!! So surprising to have dry over cooked in a slow cooked dish! The crab tasted fresh but deep fried in small pieces. Pat-Thai was the best dish of all. The place needs a change in almost every aspect.

Exceptional meal!! We believe this to be best Asian restaurant in Adelaide and continues to deliver fabulous food and great service. Thank you Regent Thai.

This has to be our most favorite restaurant of all time. We have been there many times and introduced a number of friends to the great food and people. The good is delicious , fresh and reasonably priced. We have just been there this Saturday and Sunday nights for tea with family and friends

Some of the most enjoyable Thai food found in Adelaide

Went here for dinner with my family of 4 & it took a total of 2 hours to have our main served. We ordered the choo chee prawns which was 20+ dollars and when it finally arrived it had 6 prawns total served with what I would call curry paste not creamy choo chee curry sauce (no coconut cream was used). The sauce was so strong, salty and was stingy. Secondly the barramundi sauce was the same and very bland. The pad Thai however was delish but all.in all it was a crazy long wait to only receive quite disappointing food. Bill was not worth it in the end. <br/>Star of Siam, eighty two Thai eatery are amazing Thai restaurants if you are looking for quality food and price.

Best Pad Thai I've had in Adelaide .... If you love chilli just get them to make it spicy and wow- that's one tasty pad thai! The garlic pork and green curry is also good but the pad thai was the winner for me

Affordable and delicious Thai food. I often bring my friends and family here because I know it won't disappoint! Very quick service too!<br/><br/>It is a busy and crowded place - I think it's good for catch-ups and celebrations, but not so much for romatic dates (probably too busy and loud for that). That is if you're looking where to eat on Friday/Saturday night (it might be quiter on week nights). Neverthless, good food at good price!

My favorite Thai restaurant in Adelaide. The food is always perfect and service too. Love the curries and chicken larp. Wine list is great too, can't fault it.

Have been going here for almost 10 years and has always been excellent in the past but the last two times we have had the food it has been excessively sweet. Not sure if this is due to a different chef but the balance that is so important to Thai food is not living up to the usual standard in our opinion.
Crab Cakes
My family has been going here for years and it has been consistently excellent. The owner, Te, is very friendly and always makes a point of greeting his customers. I can't recommend anything specific because it is all amazing. A must-visit.

Seriously this place can do no wrong.  Whatever you pick, you will not be disappointed, Always busy, make sure you book.  Waitresses lovely and always around making sure you are happy.  Cant wait to go back

Always consistent and reasonably priced.<br/>Love the chicken satay and pad Thai.<br/>Usually quick and friendly service. <br/>Bookings recommended as it is usually fairly busy.
The Munchkin
Really enjoyed my experience at this Thai restaurant. The food was great and the service was on point. The food came within 10 minutes of ordering. The price was fairly average like any other thai restaurants. Had the pad thai , fish and red duck curry which was good. We were surpised to see so many of the tables booked ahead on a weekday night and was lucky enough to get a last table that night.

We cannot highly recommend this one enough despite so many terrible parking experiences in North Adelaide. We loved every dish we chose and they don't lose comparing to the average ones in Thailand.

We went to regent thai couple days ago for dinner. The restaurant was pack. We just wait for 10 min and got the table. All staff are friendly and helpful. We had quail and moneybag. It's average to be frankly. For maincourse we had whole barramundi with chilli curry on top. Overall it's good but I just don't feel the spicy authentic taste.

My daughter had the squid salad on the 7/12/15 and must have enjoyed it. However it wasn't so enjoyable at 3.00am when the,, vomiting and diarrhoea started.

Some of the best food in North Adelaide and one of the best Thai restaurants in the state. Owner, Te, is a passionate and friendly person with an incredible life story (he's even written a book about it).<br/><br/>Food:<br/>I have visited several times and never been let down by a dish here. Last night we visited with 12 people and in glorious fashion we tried almost half the menu.<br/>Tom yum soup, satay beef, pandan chicken, spring rolls & money bags started us off. All delicious and cooked well. The soup and pandan chicken were awesome, and I particularly enjoyed that the fried items were not at all oily. We then worked our way through massaman beef curries, thai green chicken curries, red chicken, talay prik thai orn, lemon salmon, chicken cashew nut, pud thai & mixed vegetables. All of the dishes are packed full of flavour and good kicks of heat, but the usual dishes really stood out for me - pud thai, thai green & the massaman. The talay prik thai orn (prawns, squid, mussel and scallop cooked with blended chilli, garlic and peppercorn finished with basil) was also one of the most enjoyable dishes. On previous visits the duck curries have also been amazing.<br/><br/>Service:<br/>The service here seems very accommodating. Most of the staff are Thai and so they know what they're talking about, however that means that communications can every now and then take a little bit of effort - exactly how it should be really. If you ever get the chance to stay late and listen to Te's stories he is a fascinating character. <br/><br/>Ambience:<br/>The decor hasn't changed for a long time and you might call it old school, but this is a part of it's charm. It lets the food do the talking. On a busy night with a full house it can get a little loud in there, but not intolerably. Although I don't think I've ever driven past and seen more than a couple of empty tables so you might just have to deal with it's popularity.<br/><br/>Dish to look out for:<br/>There are so many fantastic dishes that it's ridiculous to pick one, but if I went by myself and could only order one thing it would probably be the red duck curry.

been here a few times and each time I haven't been disappointed! it's a good place to get some yummy Thai food if you don't want to head all the way into the city and the place is nice and the staff are very friendly.
Gus' Gastro Review
A little heavier handed with the chili here. I like it.Similar to 3 Monkey's Thai, this place does the simple things well. Not pretentious, not awkward, not rude, not expensive, not boring. I mean, I've had better - but it's Thai food... It's surely hard to do badly. There are so many Thai joints in North Adelaide, competition is fierce but if these guys are still floating around in that sort of market then they're doing it right and doing it well. You won't go wrong dining here. It's nice but without the charm, warmth and coziness that you have at Amarin or 3 Monkey's.<br/>Went here again last night - still really good. Tuesday night and it was packed so reservations recommended!

The food are not as good as before, and the waitress is really rude! Five of us went there on Friday night, they served us a beef dish by mistake and forced us to pay for it!
Shannynmcgrice
Delicious. We found the service good and the food great. The salmon entrée with green apple was one of the most flavorsome dishes I have ever had! My friend's stir fry was a little bland but everyone else's was delicious.

Great food, terrible service - never again. My husband and I have been going to the restaurant for 20 years until recently. The food is excellent, best Pad Thai I've ever had, though the service is appalling. The bookings frequently get messed up or not booked at all. This has happened on important occasions, including wedding anniversaries and milestone birthdays. The owner and serving staff are rude and could do with a course in customer service 101. No matter how the good the food, there are dozens of Thai quality restaurants where you can get excellent food and service. Never again. Big fail Regent Thai.

Horrible Food and Bad Service. I have been here last night with my friend and Thai was our favourite cuisine.<br/>We ordered Satay Chicken for Entree which tasted average though the presentation was very good.<br/>While ordering mains I asked the waitress if red curry is spicy. She said it would be very mild and I told her to make it moderately spicy. We ordered Red curry chicken and Regent Thai fried rice for mains. When we had 2 spoons of fried rice , we almost cried because it is very spicy with heaps of red chillies just dumped into it. Fried rice was red in colour and untolerably spicy. Even the red curry tasted the same with heaps of oil just poured into it. When we asked the waitress about it she replied those dishes would be like that only and just went away. We were shocked with their reply.<br/>I have been to many thai restaurants before and never ever had worst experience like this. I always admired their style of cooking which is delicious to taste. But the food we ate here is just like street food and not even close to authentic thai taste. <br/>Finally, we regret that we paid so much for the street food which they named Thai cuisine :(<br/>And the service was disgusting.

Mai dee. The older lady that served us wasn't friendly at all, I've been speaking Thai for nearly ten years now after doing a year long language course in the Defense force, having been used as a linguist on few occasions I'm pretty sure I can order something to eat in Thai<br/>The older lady that served us pretended not to understand when I spoke to her, she also refused to smile, instead she looked down her nose at me<br/>We ordered green curry chicken, a dish I've eaten many times, I wasn't impressed, there was a lot of oil in it instead of coconut milk, the rice was soggy also<br/>I definitely won't be going back
Notadumbblonde
The best choo chee prawns in Adelaide?. I've ordered choo chee prawns in multiple Thai restaurants around Adelaide and I rate Regent Thai's as the best!
David Lasame
I am not sure why someone rated Good service to them, we feel poor service and main course are over priced.
Stella
I'm very fussy about Thai food so it was great to find a place that was true to the authentic flavours. Have been back several times and am never disappointed.

Absolutely impressed with this place. Loved it!. This was my first dining experience at Regent Thai and I have to say I'm impressed. Impressed enough to take time out of my busy schedule and write a review. My whole family and I went there to celebrate my sister’s birthday and we loved the service, the food, the atmosphere (it was PACKED on Monday night!) ...basically everything. We all ordered different dishes, from duck red curry to chicken stir fries and seafood. Without a doubt, the standout dish...wait for it...was fried rice! It’s a side dish that accompanies your main meal yet that was the standout “meal”. I don’t know what they put in that rice but it was delicious. Yummy! All in all, I highly recommend this place if you want authentic, high quality, delicious Thai food. I know I will be back.

First Timers. This restaurant was recommended to us by friends. We are regular visitors to Thailand and love authentic Thai. This restaurant completely met our expectations. The red curry prawns were delicious, although the serves were a bit on the small side. The customer service was great and we would certainly go back again.

My Favourite Thai restaurant. Red duck curry is highly recommended. Well worth your money!

Not bad!. Rating this restaurant on its Thai food i wouldn't score it with the best, but the presentation & freshness of the food was very high. Although the food was cooked beautifully, it lacked that true Thai flavour, I will return to try some other menu items maybe i might get some kick that i'm looking for! also, if you book for 6 & only 3 turn up! expect to be seated at 1 table, Mallory!

Best thai food. Best thai food in adelaide..service is great.. love the sticky rice

Birthday Party. Sat10th Aug.<br/>Party of 18 guests including vegans and vegetarians.<br/>The food was delicious and plentiful. The entrees the best i've ever had from a Banquet menu and guest with special dietery needs were catered for without a problem. The staff were helpful, attentive and friendly.<br/>A night to remember. I would highly recommend the Regent Thai

Service was poor. Early in the night our party was REPRIMANDED very rudely for having three less people than we had booked for (they cancelled on us with short notice) and we were asked to move ourselves onto one table rather than the two we had been seated across. The manager's (?) attitude toward us at this point put a bad taste in our mouth for the rest of the evening. Waiting staff were confusing and disorganised, only taking drink orders for half the table, not supplying enough cutlery or glasses, forgetting a meal and placing the egg-free vegetarian request in front of the wrong diner. They also tried to charge us for more rice than we had been given. The food was quite good, though presentation could have been improved. We're not going back.

Wonderful service and lovely atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful food!

Lovely food and attentive service. Have been going here for many years and our most recent visit was as good as ever.

Amazing Thai!. Dined here last night for my husbands birthday. We had the fried vegetables to start, really great selection of vegetables (no capsicum and onion fillers here) very yummy! We both had the red curry vegetables with tofu. Seriously the best red curry I have had, very flavoursome, perfect amount of spice, nice creaminess and yummy tofu and veggies. Fantastic service too. We had a really lovely evening thank you.
MR T
Yum. Grabbed some takeaway tonight and it was great . Fried rice and red curry was yummy!

Highly recommended. Ate here tonight whilst on holiday from Brisbane. Found no negatives at all. Nice modern decor and staff were lovely - very efficient, accommodating and attentive. Seemed to second-guess what we wanted and even brought water to the table without us asking. It is not BYO but we found the wines to be very reasonably priced. The Pirramimma Shiraz is a stand-out at $28 bottle. As for the food, this was easily one of the best Thai restaurants we have experienced. Started with the money bags and prawn spring rolls which were both excellent. For Mains we shared two dishes - the Pepper Pork and the Basil Chicken. Both were beautifully cooked and very very nice. Paid $88 for the meal and drinks (including 4 x glasses wine and a soft drink). Great value - we will be back next time we are in Adelaide.

Consistently good. Can feel so comfortable recommending this restaurant - everyone I've told to go comes back singing its praises as well.

Nicely cooked and well presented Thai food. Service was okay.
David John Mallett
As regular customers we love the food and our only concern is that the customer service from some staff is a little to be desired.

The best of the Thai. I've only been once to Regent Thai but this place sets the Thai restaurants apart, its decour & atmosphere is brilliant. We went for the banquet of chicken, pork, seafood, beef cooked in an amazing array of spices (I like my dishes hot which was perfect) & mixed vegetables & jasmin rice. I've been to other Thai eateries but this place is the most authentic Thai food I've had and the next time I go I will try one their curries or stir fried dishes as they smelt & looked delicious.

If you want Thai come here!. Food is always fantastic! We have never been dissapointed. Great serves, authentic flavours and always fresh. Won't go anywhere else for Thai. We have brought friends here on several occassions and even they were impressed and said they will come back again very soon.

We regularly get takeaway food from regent, went dined on Monday for a b'day, the staff were very helpful as we had a double pram, the food was excellent as per usual, all went down beautifully with a couple bottles on Bent Creek Sauvignon Blanc.

I don't understand the bad reviews on here, as I have been to Regent Thai on numerous occasions and it is always amazing. By far the best red duck curry in Adelaide. Salads are to die for, as are the entrees. We have always had excellent service with staff attentive and helpful. This is the only place to go to for authentic Thai in Adelaide. I've recommended it to so many of my friends and they are all converts!!
Nathalia
Friendly service. I like thai food so i tried here with my friend. The waitresses were friendly and the food was nice.
Redhots_rule
Best Thai in Adelaide! I have been there twice and the red duck curry is absolutely to die for! The duck is tender and most importantly boneless, and the flavors were sweet with lychee and pineapple yet with the authentic Thai spice. <br/><br/>The money bags and and pad Thai are a must have staple.<br/>So far have not had a bad experience, definitely our go to Thai restaurant.
FantastischMsFox
Tick. Steamed Salmon & stirfry greens last nite.<br/>Same same tonite. Loads of garlic, chilli, lime & coriander for a supersize fillet only just a little overcooked.<br/>But i will overlook for a little overcook.<br/>Greens again a generous serve. <br/>Had a dining companion with me last nite who thoroughly enjoyed his beef curry & I was well ambitious by ordering an entree of salmon pieces fried buried within a shredded apple salad.<br/>Backed off tonite by suggesting I would only require 1/2 the size of greens as I'd been presented with last nite - but again was negated by the largesse of my fillet.<br/>Now I'm bragging.<br/>Love the staff.<br/>Be sure to book. Tables fill really quickly after 7pm, even on a school nite.

My favourite thai restaurant!. Great food and wine menu, best thai food(fresh and delicious!) Highly recommended

Expensive but yummy beef massaman and pad thai - reviewed by Thai person :)

Average thai. The restaurant won best thai food in Adelaide, and although it's been ok on the few times i've been I wouldn't rave about it. Service is friendly enough, but staff don't know much about menu. The food is average Thai at it's best.
Nancy
RUDE STAFF. Food was good but one of the staffs was so RUDE!!! Does not worth going there since she can ruin your dinner.
Catherine
We often visit this restaurant <br/>however maybe not again!<br/>I made a booking at 4.15 for 7.30 and when we arrived at 7.25 there was no evidence of a booking .very disappointing i know mistakes can happen but manager said cant do anything about it, didnt even seem apologetic.

Always RIGHT. Been to this place since many years ago. they have never changed in their flavour, which is great. dont really know much about Thai food. but this place is always great. try the paper pork.<br/>they are busy, so no worry about the turn over of the kitchen stock and food.
Marky Mark
One of the best Thai restaurants in Adelaide. Great food at reasonable prices. Best red duck curry around!

Favourite Thai Restaurant in Adelaide. Have been coming here for the last 6 years and have not had a bad meal yet. <br/>Staff are friendly enough and level of service has been consistent every time we've been.<br/>Food - authentic and reasonably priced - green curry chicken is to die for.<br/>Also young coconut juice is served beautifully in the shell

I don't really have a lot to say about this place except I found the staff to be so RUDE!!! will not go there again for that reason

Went on weekday after spotting the big winner of eat Thai sign on front window. Well average at best entree money bags just mixed corn and carrot. Mains prawn cho chee , prawns weren't the nicest and sauce gritty needed more coconut milk. Peppered pork plain, over the top with basil.

Adelaide's best Thai....just brilliant all the time. Crispy Salmon entree to die for, red duck curry divine. Whether dine in or takeaway this is a once a week indulgence.
Sam
Best in adelaide. This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always spectacular and matched only by the level of service. Try the prawn in betel nut and pandan chicken entrees, outta this world!

Love the Pla rad prik. Tasty food.
Casual SA Diner
Super tasty food. Excellent service. A bit pricey. Very noisy.
Tasahe
Tasahe. We had a fabulous meal here last night. We couldn't decide from the big menu. We had 8 entrees to share - all fantastic. Oysters with a great coriander sauce;prawns wrapped in a betel (?) leaf with a yummy nutty topping;crispy skin Salmon with mango/apple salad;beef salad ;and various other things. All were fresh, tasty and excellent. The service was efficient. Its a big dining room without a whole lot of atmosphere, but it is always full and I have never had anything that was less than excellent.

It's Good. Oh my goodness, where have you been, this place is a real gem. loved it . so far been there twice and the whole family enjoyed it. only think with thai food it tends to be rather sweet.
David Brewster
Excellent food. North Adelaide was a revelation to this Melbourne boy, and Regent Thai a gem within it. Busy on a Tuesday night - a good sign - the service was friendly and the food full of flavour. Good servings too: more than two blokes could eat.
RangiJones
Excellence / traditional style. Probably best Thai in Adelaide. Excellent service, taste bud sensation and suprisingly good wine menu - even has Basket Press!..... Hoping one day we get a Longrain Sydney - modern Thai/Australian fusion in this town.<br/>Highly recommend.

The usual staples are the on menu and serve as my measures of judgement: - Tom Kar Prawn (prawn in coconut milk flavoured with chilli, lemon, galangal, mushroom) - Red Duck Curry (red curry, chilli, basil) - Chilli Fish (deep fried barramundi topped with chilli sauce & basil) - Regent Fried Rice (rice, prawn, chicken stirfried with chilli, garlic & basil) I have recurring themes for my preferred classic Thai flavours - coconut milk, galangal, red curry and basil. The place was decorated nicely and the staff were friendly and inviting. One thing I wasn’t impressed with was the seating arrangements.

Thai food strangely reminds me of Malaysian food, especially when identical spices are utilized in the dishes. Having said that, there are still so many culinary areas to explore as each region boasts about their own signature meal which many differ from other regions in Thailand. I may not be able to recall every single detail about my Thailand trip back when I was little, but I sure do know where can you go to satisfy your inner Thai cravings. If you're looking for authentic and unpretentious Thai food, pop by Regent Thai on O'Connell Street! I have been here since 2008 and always look forward to dropping by whenever I am in the mood for a pinch of spice, acid and maybe a herb-y affair? Regent Fried Rice~ This is a must have on my list when I do visit. I love the wonderfully cooked rice which encompasses a nice range of aromatics to keep it interesting! If you prefer your fried rice to be chilli hot or mild and subtle, do let the waitress know as they can accommodate your palate. Tal

Well it really wasnt bad at all! Love gravy laden rice and the portions were just nice. They were also pretty generous with the ingredients in the soup as well Good impulsive decision made after all.

It’s been a while since I’ve had good Thai food, but then again, I’ve yet to find a place in Adelaide that does great Thai food. The hunt is still on, so send your suggestions this way! Word on the street is that Regent Thai serves a good Thai meal so a small get together was arranged. All but one (me, ha!) on the night have recently returned from an Asia trip earlier in the year so their standards for authentic Thai food is at an all time high. Larb gai: minced chicken with aromatic Thai herbs, fresh chilli and lemon juice (hot); $8.50 Battered salmon pieces with apple salad Crispy chicken One of my favourites dishes at Thai restaurants is their battered fish (usually barramundi) with either the apple or green mango salad! This one was tasty at first bite but the longer it sat there, the crispy batter coating the salmon pieces got soggy from the salad dressing. The apple salad was refreshing and tangy but I would’ve preferred the apple pieces to be chopped up in batons as opposed to b
