Review The Kentish - Adelaide

Overall was excellent, staff were great, perfect breeze outside and surprisingly first ever time out at a restaurant with a blackout for a short time. Food was great and first restaurant non Asian that can make dumplings well. Keep up the good work.. :)

Great pub in North Adelaide serving up a menu relevant to the seasons and pub favourites. Outside dining is perfect for yourself and your 4 legged friend. Casual and formal dining available inside. Great local crowd.

My daughter and I went there on a Saturday for Lunch, there wasn't a lot of people inside, but a fair few seated outside, I haven't been here for years and it has changed sooo much. It's not a cheap place to eat by any means, but well worth it. The food is absolutely fabulous. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is muted and serene in the dining area where we ate. I loved it.

Ambience excellent. Sat in the wine shed section. Excellent social distancing, cool, quiet, service attentive and friendly. Food very good. Portion size a bit large but that's easily remedied. There is a bites section of the menu that delivers entree or snack sized portions.

Had lunch here and food was reasonably good. My partner and I both had burgers but both came to the same conclusion - while tasty they were a little unbalanced. The meat was too large in proportion to the other ingredients. I had the grilled chicken burger and it had what seemed to be a whole chicken breast in the burger. Whilst this justified the price ($25), I personally feel a smaller piece of chicken would have made a more balanced burger. Drinks were expensive.

The burger not to miss! After not eating burgers for more than a decade, this burger changed my whole perspective on the 'what a real burger should be like' and I have been fortunate enough to find plenty of other places serving a burger the way it should be served. So tasteful, well presented, and more than enough to fill me up and get me going. Great place with a great atmosphere and a great and very attentive and friendly staff.

Great value for money with big servings of main meals and delicious healthy sides like charred brocolini with almonds and garlic. They even have yummy vegan options like the fried tofu burger. Fantastic wine selection. I also enjoyed a yummy mojito with my burger this time. The staff were friendly and gave us great customer service will definitely eat their again.

Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining, and they do different deals on different nights so it’s worth checking them out before you book. Highly recommended.

Great fitout..love the new wine room extension The complimentary fish bites went down a treat Inturn we decided to stay on as we appreciated the complimentary gesture and ordered more wines at our table of 9 But it was a very disappointing and somewhat limited bar snack menu especially when we all wanted something straight after work. We had to ask for cutlery napkins and side plates for our shared dishes so maybe a bit more staff training needed for those running out the food as we all dont eat with fingers even if it is shared nachos etc The live music was a nice touch too creating a superb atmosphere A really nice wine menu helped by a barperson who was very knowledgeable and suggested an excellent dry French Rose wine so good we had to go back and reorder to make sure the second bottle was as good Staff overall all very friendly A great spot looking forward to trying the main restaurant next time

We held our daughters engagement party in the wine room a week ago. The night was everything we planned and more. Fantastic service from the first contact with Alya to the night. Highly recommend The Kentish. Staff, food drinks and service outstanding.

We had our wedding at The Kentish in the wine shed this May and it was the most amazing night! The character and charm of the area is just beautiful. Ayla was amazing to deal with, she made us feel so at ease and was so helpful!!! The food was delicious too Can't wait to come back for our anniversary!

Had a great group dinner at the Kentish, with multiple courses and matching wines for each. The staff were great in helping to set the night up and did a fantastic job looking after us during the evening. Every course got rave reviews and the lamb was the best I’ve had in a long time. Given the quality of the food, wine and service, and how easy the staff made it all, I think I need to make it a regular event!

We love going to the Kentish, the food is always creative and super tasty, not your average pub food. The bar staff are really friendly and helpful, it's just a beautiful old adelaide pub with a chilled vibe.

I absolutely loved our function experience. We held our engagement party a few nights ago and the quality of the venue capped off an already lovely and special night. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, the space is gorgeous and needed nothing from us, and the food was amazing!! People were raving about the food on the night and have brought the topic up since, and that's pretty awesome for large group catering. Fantastic service, tempted to come back for the wedding!! Thank you so much :D xx

Great food and even better staff! Loved our night here for dinner and special mention to the tall blonde girl in the bar! What great service, will definitely be back

We started our evening as a table of 14 for an a la carte dinner. Food and service fabulous. We then moved on into the function area with finger foods for a 50th Birthday function, equally as fabulous as the earlier dinner! Thanks to all staff, including those back of house!
Jake Rollins
Definitely my favourite pub. Great food, beer and wine with friendly staff.

Took too long with courses and some of the food was tasteless. The steaks were inconsistent with the menu saying medium rare. Only got dessert 4pm! Supposed to get bread roll and salads but there were none.

Thank you for helping make Jess & Lachy's wedding such a special day. The place was decorated to look amazing, the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Thank you for helping us make unforgettable memories

Delicious meal with 12 friends. Lovely room to ourselves. Friendly staff and good service. We were able to use Entertainment book vouchers which was a bonus.

We like this pub but our experience was just ok. Took a while to work out if we could be seated in the dining room proper but eventually were. Our meals were forgotten but to their credit we were offered a compensatory bottle of wine or cocktail. So ok but a bit disappointing.

Great night at The Ferrari Show on Thursday night! Sensational food, excellent staff and the function room was an absolute treat!! Well done.

Nice atmosphere private function and staff were very friendly, to be criticle mash on plate with the fillet was stone cold but the steak was perfect MR and well seasoned , rabbit gnocchi was awesome... but seriously when you pay what we did for our meals is it that hard to include a bread roll or slice of Turkish bread, and why did you keep running out of every bottle of red wine we ordered.... or did you use us to clean out the ones that wouldn't sell as every time we liked one there was never another and we had to keep changing brand.but all in all a great night...(bread roll😀😀😂😂)

Came here because it was in the entertainment booklet. Very nice plating and balanced flavours for my dish. Wish it was a bit bigger for $35, but since I got 25% off it was more worth it. My friends got the steak and schnitzel and it was a normal big portion, so the portion sizes depend on the meal you choose. Food didn't take too long to arrive and the decor of the wine shed has a great ambience. Not big on wine so can't comment on the extensive wine menu. Would come back but only with entertainment book voucher.

Fantastic venue with beautiful views of Stanley St!! <br/>Great food with a little twist on the usual pub food ❤️ <br/>Staff were extremely friendly & knowledgeable

Often go here for a classic pub meal which is often hit and miss ... Portions sizes vary along with inconsistent service. <br/><br/>It's in a good location with easy parking for after work drinks. But nothing special that's for sure

Poor service.<br/><br/>If you go here remembering a good pub you will be disappointed.<br/><br/>Rude manager who took complaints from us as aggression and whose answer to the complaints was 'this is the first I know about it so what could I do.' <br/><br/>We waited an hour and a half for food. One person ordered an entree size meal that came out well before the other meals even though we requested our meals come at the same time.<br/><br/>Then there was schnitzel. The big wait was for tacos - three corn tortillas topped with a bit of beef and salad. 1 1/2 hours???<br/><br/>The pub was not near full (less than 20% of tables being used) although the manager claimed they were very busy. We were not told there would be a long wait when we ordered. <br/><br/>The coke mix was mostly water so the person having a mixed drink needed to buy bottled coke.<br/><br/>We asked after our food three times.<br/><br/>The manager was not at all apologetic for a 1 1/2 hour wait, but rather just seemed annoyed at us for complaining about it.

Really nice welcoming friendly place <br/>Have had bar food a few times and always consistent <br/>The shared platters are amazing and look forward to going for dinner <br/>

I had the fish and chip. All I can say is seriously oily food. The drinks were nice. It has nice decor. Service was average. It a decent local pub. But there are amazing places in Adelaide now for some good fish and chips.

This pub is just off Melbourne St if u didn't know it was there you'd miss it! It's an old place, but elegant. The dining room is a quaint and cosy area, though there is a spacious outside dining area too. The service was fantastic and food the same- I don't do lamb shanks, but these were recommended and rightly so! Creme Brulee was also a knockout dessert. Very enjoyable evening indeed. 😊

The Kentish is a favourite of hours. Tucked behind the main drag of Melbourne street on quiet leafy Stanley street, it has a relaxed atmosphere, good wine selection, multiple in and out seating options and the kitchen punches way above its weight. It's a big call but the Kentish burger is one of the best burgers in Adelaide. We are yet to try anything else on the well ranged menu we didn't enjoy.

I haven't been here for years and was pleased that it still had a comfortable vibe when I walked in. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed so we started in the front bar for a drink while we perused the menu. By the time we'd decided what we wanted the dining room was still full so we took a table in the function area which was very pleasant. The starter of olives was a generous serve and the chilli, feta and lemon flatbread was crispy and yummy. My steak was cooked as requested and came with a good serve of chunky chips as did the schnitzel which, pleasingly, was more meat than crumbs. We were well looked after by the staff all night.

Oh. My. 10/10 for exceptional service, atmosphere and food. On the 16th January, we arrived late for dinner and were gratefully served even though the kitchen was just about to close. What the staff didn't know was we were out for a quick meal while a family member was in palliative care at a nearby hospital. It was bitter sweet. Here we were enjoying one of the best meals we had ever had (reminding us what life is all about) and yet our situation was devastating to say the least. My hubby who orders a Chicken Parmigina at 'every opportunity' said it was one of the best he had ever had. Giving it a 10/10 and even making the effort to personally thank the chef (I think even surprising the chef with his thanks!). My Lamb backstrap topped any 5 star meal that I have ever had. Something about the fresh mix of flavours that I just couldn't get enough of and the lamb cooked to absolute perfection. Sarah who served us at the bar was an absolute gem in service and personality. Sarah even went out of her way to help me choose a nice glass of wine, offering a tasting to help with my choice. What we know could of been an extremely stressful evening out, was rewarded with such bestowing hospitality.

No apology from serving mold cheddar cheese. Took an hour to get the main course. Unfriendly waitress, never seen smile on her face. Great food, poor service

The food here is good but the service was unbelievably poor! Nobody comes to the table to see if you need anything. Waited 30 mins before someone came to our table. I have had two different meals here. Both good which makes up for the service, but only just.
Family Friendly
Have read other reviews saying it has gone downhill but didn't believe it as of the 7 or 8 times we have been here in the past year have been great. The rack of lamb for $38 was tasty but tiny and the eggplant parmigiana was inedible. Will think twice about coming back for a while.

A great little pub, nestled in the perfect location. The Food was great although it was let down by the service, waited over an hour to get our table cleared, and it wasn't even busy! They either need two waitresses on or a stronger waitress, very poor service.

We come here every week for pub quiz, however feel we may need to relocate. Although it has a good vibe and atmosphere, the food disappoints. Would recommend a revamp of the menu with more variety. In particular, the chips here sub par.
Cherie
Bitterly disappointing, will not go back. Very rude waitress, no manners or a smile, long wait times, burnt meals and no apology. Disgusted

This once quiet, hidden gem of a pub is transforming into a busy bar with a packed dining room. Unless you want bar dining, you need to book. The food is great and friendly staff.

Absolutely delicious chicken parmy for Sunday lunch. Best I've had in a long time. Super wine list.

Great sit-down meal. Came here on a public holiday for a family lunch, we were seated inside which was a bit too loud and made hard for conversation, however the menu items listed all sounded great. <br/><br/>We ordered the tasting platter, which had pita bread, hummus dip, beetroot dip, olives, fresh salad, falafels, white dipping bread with olive oil and balsamic, and dukah. These platters were amazing, so fresh, so much food and variety and so very tasty. <br/><br/>Then after a while, a long while...our mains came, I had the chicken parmy, which while was big and cheesy, didn't actually have any distinct taste, it was rather bland. The only thing I liked about the dish were the big cut chips. My boyfriend had the angus beef burger (which they forgot to make and bring out with the rest of the orders), resulting in a big hot burger that was too hot to eat, the burger was actually not bad, it had a good meat patty and sauce. The rest of the family enjoyed their chicken breast salad and veal shnitty - which was as long as an arm but still quite enjoyable.<br/><br/>Overall, a good place to come with a group of people to enjoy some nice food on a relaxing day.

Vegetarians be warned. If you're a vegetarian, avoid this place like the plague. Their only vegetarian main is a pumpkin wedge, which is what it sounds like - just a honking great slab of pumpkin. And some green bits, whatever. The thing about vegetarians is that they're basically normal people, except that they don't eat meat. So when they go to a pub, they're probably looking for normal pub-type food - just without meat. So a veggie burger, or a pizza, or some pasta, maybe an eggplant schnitty. Normal pub food that a person would eat. If there's anyone out there who thinks a pumpkin wedge is a thing that you eat for dinner, they're probably a serial killer.

Well worth a visit and easy parking....a great menu in the dining room and jugs of Pimms are perfect on a Sunday afternoon in the Beer Garden.

Friendly efficient service. Interesting presentation of food. Nice Meze platter. Excellent fish and chips. Real chips!

This is a great little pub in the back streets of North Adelaide. The menu offers good choice and we saw some lovely meals come out. Both the fish and chips and the salmon were excellent. There was live music in the beer garden on Sunday afternoon and it would be nice if the owners made this a non-smoking area.

What a great hidden gem! With pleasant surroundings and enthusiastic new management they can't lose. Let's hope more people support this wonderful old pub. Great food too.

Keep an eye out for this hidden gem, just off Melbourne St. The old 'Kentish Arms' has changed name and management. The food is delicious and the service is great.

I heard Clark Kent goes here. :)
