Long time fan of the coffee here but have also had breakfast and lunch here. The food is consistently good and there are always interesting menu items but of course, the "go to" items are the house made pastries. Now open after work for drinks I had a chance to experience after work life at HD Eatery. The cocktails were excellent. Fantastic staff.
Flavour, flavour, flavour! Incredible venue that warrants your attention when you visit Adelaide - a little off the beaten track, you'll need to keep your eyes open to find this hidden gem in the side-streets (labelled "H D Eatery" at the door). Well worth the search for terrific coffee and amazing main courses - kudos to the staff for being able to flexibly satisfy a hungry man's appetite during the half-hour switch-over between breakfast and lunch menus - a sincere thank you!
Had brekky there last week with my hubby and it was amazing. Love the coffee and food. Burger tasted very unique and the yogurt with nuts was nice and filling. Was too full to get pastry and desert but definitely will be on my list next time I visit!

I think I just stumbled across my new favourite city lunch eatery, off the beaten track, the food is sublime. Can't wait to try everything else.
We’re from Melbourne. We stumbled upon this place looking fir interesting places to brunch over Easter when much if the cafes were closed. And boy were we pleased we took the effort to find this place. the outside of the cafe was rather uninspired and so we were unsure of stepping in. There was also no signage at the time. But Once you stepped into this warm space, all apprehensions melted away. The welcome was warm and friendly, a little quirky. It was difficult to choose from the menu, as there were many we wanted to try. But what we ordered, we loved. The food was spot on. Interesting use of ingredients on a plate, fresh, colourful, unapologetic in serving up food that they really loved to eat. Modern, fresh, healthy. Cakes looked so very tempting. And the coffee, the coffee was to DIE for! only suggestion would be to possibly have a high chair? But this really depends on their regular clientele.
A real hidden gem in the heart of Adelaide city. The breakfast, pastries and coffee here are simply delightful. Of all the breakfast dishes we’ve ordered, the one which hit all the senses and was beautifully done is the Smashing Pumpkins. Totally recommend it. Another tip is if you can, walk there. Parking can be tricky as most of the street parking nearby is 1 hour or 30 minutes parks. Note: I have attached the updated menu here as the one on Zomato seems outdated.
We enjoyed the ambience of the cafe. it’s cosy and relaxing to stay for a cop of nice coffee. I tried the bread with curry sauce, it was nice ! I will come back for croissants next time :)
Generous serving sizes. I had the green machine. It was nice, but there was too much of a spice added to the spinach which was too overpowering.Small menu if you don't want the stock standard bacon and eggs. They also make their own tarts and pastries on site. Coffee was served with a honey sachet rather than sugar, I had never seen this before, and loved this quirk.
A top notch coffee shop in the city centre, hidden down a laneway it was a great find! Small cosy interior comprised of bar tables and stools. Will come again.
It is easy to found this place on Zomato but not so easy to find it especially on a Saturday morning when all the shops around it are closed. We almost gave up but I decided to have one more try. Nice environment nice food!
Hidden away down a side street, this cafe is worth the effort to find! What a great atmosphere with funky fittings, glass shop front, fantastic company and friendly service. Highly recommend the hummus on toast - basic but so damn good! A huge range of baked savoury and sweet treats. Of course I also had to have a croissant - so good!
Handsome and the Duchess have been long time favourites for coffee, pastries and recently breakfast.
The Husband and Wife duo are two of the most sweetest people I've come by. Their hard work, passion efforts is represented in the quality coffee and pastries.
I went to check it out (Handsome and The Duchess), it’s one of the few cafes that are opened on a Saturday which makes it really good for kick ons after a big night out.
They brew beans from Monastery Coffee, like Argo. I was skeptical about their coffee, but when they served my latte in a glass cup instead of a mug I knew I was in for a treat, and it was a treat; their coffee is tasty, I rate it a lot.
Excellent service, due to Carona virus and limitations were very apologetic about reduced menu and waiting on stock delivery. There was no need as the breakfast they made was 1st class and service was friendly. Have been stuck in SA for nine weeks ans wish I found this place earlier. Support your local cafes.
This is one of those little out of the place cafes you kind of have to be in the know to even know of its existence. The cafe itself is very small and cosy and normally quite busy which just shows you how popular it is and can get loud very fast. The coffee is perfect and there is a great selection of cakes and croissants, I ordered the Pink Lady for breakfast and admittedly it is the best French Toast I have ever had, covered with pears, almonds and a sprinkling of pomegranate even the lemon cream was one of those things you just can't get enough of, it is one of those breakfasts you'll be dreaming about for days. Definitely recommend and I'll be back again!
Wafting from behind an eclectic jumble of vintage kitchen gadgets is the sweet caramelly aroma of pastries baking. Mix that with freshly ground quality Elementary coffee beans and you know you’re already onto a winner. Scotty on the tools is a rare artisan who seamlessly churns out flawless coffee. And he’s as quiet as a mouse! The volume he’s burning through is impressive for such unannounced consistent perfection.
This place is a hidden gem. You won’t regret it.
After hearing good things and not to mention the numerous rave reviews I thought it was high time I gave this cafe a crack. The place was rocking when I ordered my coffee. It has that industrial feel to it which I rather like. The service was good (if a little slow) and the coffee wasn't bad. The lad who brought it over noticed he'd spilt coffee into the saucer and offered to make a new coffee for me which was a nice touch but I'm not that precious :) I'd certainly visit again and judging by the number of punters a lot of others already do!
Great little spot, exquisite quick lunches, e.g. this delicious vegetable sandwich full of delectable relish, beetroot, roasted capsicum, sprouts and mayonnaise
