Review Kutchi Deli Parwana - Adelaide

Bruce Trương
This is a lovely lunch spot in Ebenezer Place. We had not had a lot of Afghan food prior to visiting the establishment so all the dishes were new experiences for us. The menu is small, but all dishes are delicious (my kind of food place!). We had a lamb kebab, a serving of dumplings, and the famed eggplant curry, with iced chai and rose sharbat on the side. The dumplings remained crunchy, despite being drenched in extremely flavorful tomato sauce. The kebab was of course delicious; and the eggplant curry was a little sweeter than we had expected, but that was definitely a welcome surprised. We left full and satisfied, and without much of a dent in our wallet because everything was so reasonably priced!

This cafe is like a big warm hug. Home cooked simple food that's unpretentious. The rice is so fragrant and tasty, as was the curry. The dumplings were highly recommended by my friend. The rose syrup drink was refreshing. Highly recommended and will be back when we're next in Adelaide.

Very sweet and friendly service! The chicken curry with rice and salad was scrumptious! The rose flavoured cold drink is nothing special though.

Kutchi Deli is a great addition to the already impressive list of eateries along Ebenezer place. Adorned in groovy patterns and colours, marvel in the atmosphere while you decide on what to order. The entire menu is definitely worth a look. I was able to sample a few dishes with our party of four. Everything tasted great and an honorable mention on the iced chai. Whether it was brewed from tea leaves and spices or powder, I'll never know (I would if I asked...). The Chai was delicious and not overly sweet the way most cafe's make it.

Adelaide is on the up because of joints like Kutchi. Family Ayubi are changing our understanding of Middle Eastern cuisine with their traditional Afghan recipes. Everything on the menu is worth doing, but the eggplant, dumplings, and spiced chai are all time. Worth going back at least once a week. At least.

Love the lamb kebab! So juicy and full of flavour. Service is good and enjoyed the interior.

Great service, great price and great food. $20 for a choice of 3 different items on the menu. Will definitely go back. I told the lady it was my first time there and she took the time to go through the menu with me.

8seats inside, more tables outside, nice food, good portion, sweetness in chai latte is perfect, cute environment

This is hands down one of my top 3 favourite places in Adelaide. The food is incredible and unlike the previous review I'd add a star if I could for the fact that everything is made fresh rather than sitting around for hours. Hubby and I (and our 17 month old daughter) are never let down by the food or the service. Always delicious and always great service. Amazing every single time.
Dianne Williams
Friendly, casual, good service, great food and generous serve. The combo lunch plate $20 was delicious!

We ordered the eggplant and fried dumplings. The food was faultless as usual. I've only dropped a point off as it wasn't ready at the time we ordered. We were clearly the first order of the day yet had to wait 15 minutes for our food. If we'd been running to a work lunch timetable we'd have been in trouble. But as I said, we could not fault the food. Absolutely delicious.

Thank-you for catering at our wedding, your food is simply delicious and your staff are so accommodating and professional. All of our guests loved the banquet dinner and it made our wedding more sociable and memorable.

On the weekend I had the most AMAZING vegetarian dumplings that I have ever eaten at Kutchi Deli! And the place looks wonderful- such a quirky, cute hole in the wall. I couldn't recommend it more! Thanks :)

Lamb Bolani is delicious, food is excellent :) highly recommend it!

This place is absolutely beautiful! Just found this gem randomly today, and was so so good. Really lovely people and such excellent food with quality prices. Not to mention how amazing the place looks, definitely going back again soon :)
Kathy Low
Great food, good prices & fantastic friendly staff.

Fantastic, tasty food served with a smile. This little sister restaurant to Parwana in Torrensville is great place to pop in for lunch
Beth Mayfield
Amazing food loved the eggplant biryani and leek dumplings vegetarian and lamb burger. Incredibly tasty thank you made my day see you again soon

So great to have you guys at Flinders University! The eggplant curry is amazing, and it's always service with a smile :-)

I can't get over how delicious everything at Parwana is. The eggplant is one of my favourite things in the WORLD.

Had lunch here at bicycle swap meet. Food lived up to the hype. Venue even better : )

Looked promising, but a bit disappointed to be honest. For $14 I would expect more than three meatballs in the kofta. Likewise, my friend thought that for $14 your lamb chapli would have come with a side. With so many eateries nearby I don't think I will be back soon.
Prerna Ashok
Had yummy dumplings made fresh today! Such beautiful flavours; am recommending this place to everyone I know :-)

Kutchi Deli Parwana serves traditional Afghan food, which recipes have been handed down from generations to generations. As we were walking towards the restaurant, we could already smell the fragrant spices which made us very hungry. It was a small restaurant and one thing that stood out to us immediately was their colourful tiles and decorations! Read more about this restaurant on my blog!

I just had the most amazing meal I have ever eaten in Australia here. Not only were the ingredients fresh and tasty but the staff was kind and attentive to my allergies. I can’t wait to come back and eat here again!! :)

Delicious Afghan food at its finest! If you're looking for something quirky, and different for the palette, then you cannot miss this place! I mean seriously, look at the colourful decor and not to forget, the food!

The Afghani lamb dumplings are a must-try at this little eatery which is a riot of colour. The mantu (steamed dumplings stuffed with carrot and onion) are piled on a plate and topped with a flavoursome tomato sauce with lamb and yoghurt. Life is good when you can grab a table on the sidewalk with a plate of this deliciousness.

Had a fantastic lunch today at Kutchi Deli. Great food, nice staff and great spot. Super quick service and lots of fantastic options to choose from on the menu. Would highly recommend it!
Katrina Jorna
Neither of us could decide anything because every single thing on the menu sounded nice, so with the help of the very patient waitress we both got mixed plates where you can choose three items.

Its a cute little lunch spot. I have had the mantu and the chapli kebab and chicken burger. The mantu was okay, the meat sauce was a little too sour, but an overall okay dish. The chapli kebab, as a burger, was pretty good. It was a very big lamb patty with salad and a dressing. However it was a little under seasoned. They are very generous with the chicken as its over flowing in the naan! Same deal as the other one, came with salad and a dressing. It was seasonsed perfectly but was a little dry. Overall a good experience, and hoping to try more.

Has options for vegetarians and meat eaters-both equally delicious! Good food, generous serves and very reasonable pricing. We had the pan fried dumplings with the meat sauce, the steamed mantu with veg sauce and the lamb bolani with mint chutney- all highly recommended. We will be back to try other menu options!

Popped in for a quick lunch and we decided to share the mantu, the lamb curry and the Afghan "lamb burger". All were generous serves. The dumplings had a delicious filling with a meat sauce over the top. The lamb curry had a great taste and was really tender and the rice that accompanied it had a lovely flavour. The "lamb burger" was a large lamb patty with salad in a large bread. It was good. the bread was useful for sopping up the mantu meat sauce.

A lovely find!! Came here for lunch with the SO and was not disappointed!!!

We ordered the eggplant and some meat and dumplings.
Food was beautiful and tasted great. So many good options to choose from it can take awhile to pick your dish.
Service was alright, awkward when your food is sent to the wrong table (which was already full with food) despite you sitting I front of the waitress and she was the one who took your order.

Overall loved it here and will be back!!

Thank you for opening in the city. Love your style. Keep creating and sharing those sweet recipes.

Will return soon.

January 5, 2016 By She Said What in Food & Drink Tags: Adelaide, Afghan food, City, food, lunch, review Leave a comment. In a recent poll, Adelaidian’s were asked “what would you rather go without, Parwana Afghan Restaurant or sex?” An astounding 99.23% answered ‘sex’. Okay, okay, so that may be a statistic purely fabricated by me, but that doesn’t change the fact that we Adelaidian’s love our Parwana.

What an awesome cute place, serving real family feel Middle Eastern meals. Popped into town on boxing day (big big mistake!), couldn't get in anywhere to eat, found this place and they had a seat! So we scrambled across and hoovered up the seats! Ordered lamb curry and mantos, fried flatbread dish with lamb filling. Loved the lamb curry, tender and tasty. Mantos filled with leeks, the dumplings were deep fried with great pastry and delicious lamb chickpea sauce, would go back for this dish, really enjoyed it. The flatbread dish was a bit disappointing, same pastry and very little lamb filling with yoghurt dipping sauce and a little on the expensive side for what it was. Considering the curry and mantos were not expensive, it didn't quite balance out. Service was friendly enough, but I think a few more smiles and a little chattiness goes a long way. I love the floral plastic plates the food is served on as it really reflects the family style feel of this establishment. Great little on the run lunch spot!
Food Is Loved
Parwana, on Henley Beach Rd, is one of those rare food treasures. I love that the food is a representation of family, of culture and about bringing people together around the table. It's hard to choose just one favourite dish, everything is bursting with flavour. But I would return over and over again and never not order the mantu (dumplings), they are fantastic. Tonight I also really enjoyed the eggplant dish (Banjaan Borani) and Morgh Qormah (chicken).

A hidden gem down Ebenezer. Was tossing up between a burger at Burger Theory and trying Parwana a few doors down and thank God I chose to try something new. kutchi deli was fantastic just like their father Restaurant on Henley Beach Road. we had the Afghani chicken burger in a folder over Pita, it was fantastic and bursting with flavour. we also had the fried lamb dumplings which never disappoint and lastly ordered a tender lamb and rice dish which is a must. the staff were incredibly nice and Service was prompt. We just love the interior fit out at the tables outside. highly recommend you try this new eatery. Fantastic

Kutchi Deli Parwana is the sister store to Parwana Afghan Restaurant down Torrensville. This hole in the wall place is located down Ebenezer Place and has one of the most beautiful interiors I’ve seen in Adelaide. I’ve been a number of times and have nearly made my way through the whole menu. Sadly I was not carrying my camera (rookie mistake) so it’s taken me this long to finally write a review about this beautiful place.

Delicious, well presented food. Excellent friendly service, cute location in Ebenezer place, and well priced. We frequent here for lunch dates. Not a lot of seating so good for just small groups (4 people). Won't disappoint!

It's easy to see why people love it here. Great food and friendly staff. In fact the food is better than great - it's homely, fragrant, and tantalises the tastebuds.
But I'm Hungry Now
Colourful food and colourful premises. This little gem serves up tasty afghan dishes. I chose the Morgh Degee (chicken marinated with a blend of middle eastern spices) which came served with soft naan bread and an array of fresh salad veggies. A pleasant spicy aroma filled the premises as I waited for my meal.

Friendly staff and generous portions. I would like to try their lamb dumplings and kofta.

A little weekday lunch treat destination. You will be greeted with a warm smile and friendly service You can't go wrong whether you choose one of their Curries, Dumplings or the Chapli Kebab
Jgraham
Great little spot, excellent food!
Would have rated 5.0 but my lamb burger was served on diner-style wax paper so it got soggy and mixed with the mint sauce. Essentially I missed out on 4 pieces of cucumber, absolutely gutted.
LadyZombir
Wonderfully cheap yet filling and delicious, exactly more of what Adelaide needs. Dumplings are superb and the chicken with naan and chutney isn't bad either.

We can’t believe it’s taken us this long to check out Kutchi Deli Parwana on Ebenezer Place (opened early-mid 2014) after we had such a delicious, filling and homely meal at the mother restaurant, Parwana Afghan Kitchen in Torrensville. But hey, at least we finally made it to its second deli in the heart of the city. The hole in the wall, small sized deli is from Parwana owners children and partners, the place is colourful, bright and inviting with rich jewel coloured tiles with intricate patterns and details, bright coloured walls and ornaments and photo frames adorning the deli space.

Must try!. Kutchi Deli Parwana has such an amazing vibe, when you are there you feel as if you have transported to another world. The tables and chairs are set up so you are sitting next to strangers which just enhances the beautiful experience. You understand more that this particular restaurant is about sharing and having a great time with friends family, and people you are yet to meet.
The food is amazing and although I no longer live in Adelaide I make sure it is a trip I take when ever I am visiting.

Wow, the food is so delicious and tasty. I had the lamb mince Bolani which was full of flavour. Quick friendly service. I think this will be our new favourite lunch spot.

The hole in the wall, small sized deli is from Parwana owners children and partners, the place is colourful, bright and inviting with rich jewel coloured tiles with intricate patterns and details, bright coloured walls and ornaments and photo frames adorning the deli space. Proceed through the door on the right, place in an order, and grab a seat either by the window overlooking the hipster street of Ebenezer Place, or take a seat outside along the footpath. Our group of four snagged a sunny spot outside, had a gander at the short menu of Afghan style street food which was perched by the entrance door and completed our orders inside. Morgh degee; $14.00 Three out of four of us ordered the morgh degee, a generous open styled wrap with chicken pieces marinated in Afghan spices and yoghurt wrapped in a fluffy toasted flat bread with diced red onions, juicy tomatoes and refreshing cucumber chunks. Satisfying and delicious, a relatively cheap and filling lunch meal… although we’re not too sure how well it’d hold up if it was ordered as take away unless the wrap was wrapped tighter and more compact so it wouldn’t fall apart. Chickpea curry Our vegetarian friend opted for Kutchi Deli’s traditional chickpea curry sautéed in a garlic, onion and tomato sauce served on rice with a yoghurt dressing. A vibrant and bright plate was presented and we could only imagine how much flavour was packed into the plate from the colours alone. Mantu; $12.00 We also ordered an extra plate of food to share, a serving of their popular mantus (dumplings), the vegetarian version–steamed dumplings stuffed with sautéed onion and carrot topped with a split pea sauce. PS. the non-vegeta

If you haven't been here you are missing out. Finally made my way to this place to try the famous Mantu Lamb Dumplings. Yes. Loved them. Full of flavour. Everything I hoped they would be. The mix of the yoghurt based sauce, the flavour hit of middle eastern spices and the tender lamb encased in a juicy dumpling was fantastic. The service was friendly and the price I paid for the generous serving I recieved felt like pocket change. Will be back.

Delicious food in a sweet little spot. We had a mix of the grilled chicken, the kofta, potato and lamb turnovers, chickpea pack the dumplings and a round of chai. Everyone was unanimous in its deliciousness. The ice chai was less to my liking but at least it was legit tasting compared to the rubbish people try and pretend is chai.

Kutchi Deli is something else. Walking in off of Ebenezer Place, the vibrant colours and unique details of the shop front immediately transport you to another place. It isn't just the beautiful fit out which makes Kutchi so inviting, but the consistently friendly service and most importantly, the divine food.

Delicious. Food was delicious. staff and service awesome. loved it.
Lora McMillan
I absolutely loved everything about this place, the staff were all so lovely, the decor was so intriguing and unique, the food amazing and didn't take long. Phenomenal flavours and the dumplings lived up to the hype!

Outstanding cuisine, friendly service & fasanating interior makes a visit to Kutchi Deli well worth the effort. It's about time this part of the city has some interesting middle eastern food!

I thought I was somewhere in the Middle East. We went there for lunch on a Saturday. The decorations were so intriguing that we couldn't take our eyes off the colourful decorations & the design details. There were so many interesting things to catch our attention. Then, we studied the menu & finally ordered morgh degee (chicken marinated in Afghan spices with naan, salad & chutney), mantu (steamed dumplings, topped with a lamb mince & split pea sauce) & bolani (panfried turnovers stuffed with leek & feta). A mix of meat and vegetarian food. Since there were not many seats inside the cafe, we sat outside. I liked the long community table outside very much but it was quite cold. Our food came one by one. All dishes were full of flavour and lovely exotic spices. We liked bolani the best. The chicken was very tender, delicious but the naan was cold. It would have been perfect if the naan was toasted or served warm. After our meal in the cold, we were ordered the spiced honey milk tea which was beautiful. This meal was so inspiring that I would have to try making Afghan food at home.
Adventures In Winterland
A friend of mine introduced me to Parwana many years ago and I fell in love with their home-style Afghani food, so when I heard that they’d opened a deli outpost in the city I had to try it!...Both dishes were mind-blowingly good. And I mean, lick-the-bowl, write-home-about good. The mantu were soft and beautifully balanced – stuffed full of onion and carrot, coated in a tomato-based sauce with mince and lentils. The bolani , an Afghani flat-bread, was filled with mince and veggies, and came with a divine mint dipping sauce that brought the whole thing to life. Let me repeat: incredibly, incredibly good.
Adelaidefoodcentral
With street food being all the rage at the moment, the popular Parwana Afghan restaurant has opened a more casual version of it’s parent restaurant in the heart of the city. Located in the popular east end location of Ebeneezer Place, Kutchi Deli Parwana offers a selection of kebabs, curries, dumplings, bolani (flat bread with vegetable filling), vegetarian dishes and sweets.
Eat Study Work
It was great to try something different for lunch today, and I'm so glad I did because it was incredible. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!
On The Chopping Board
Unless you've been living in a far away land with no outside contact, you will have heard about the family owned and operated business increasing it's footprint from a modest shop on Henley Beach Rd to a cute Afghan street-food-inspired premise in Ebenezer Place. Don't go thinking these guys have made their way into the big smoke and compromised their food quality - in fact, it's quite the opposite.
