Review Gyoza Gyoza - Adelaide

Kai C D (Kevin)
Service is a bit slow. large restaurant but not enough staff serving customers. Great place to grab a quick bite and hang out with friends. They have a lot of drinks and small Japanese dishes. Enjoyed their desserts. The iced hojicha and soft serve taste amazing. Really nice and friendly service. Will be visiting again to try more dishes.

Fantastic Japanese cousins and very reasonable prices. There is so much variation to choose from. From all meats seafood vegetarian options to satisfy just about anyone. The cocktail jugs are fantastic to share and so delicately balanced. Highly recommended

A pleasant meal in nice surroundings, with fair service and very reasonable price (At a time when there were no other diners.) The pork and garlic Gyoza were enjoyable, with a generous garlic kick I was looking for…. the amount of filling was on the light side. Chicken Karaage portions were large, nicely spiced coating that combined very well with the mayo; and the ebi was in a light tempura batter and accompanied by a tasty dipping sauce. Japanese (genuine) wait staff were helpful, suggesting that an order of 10 Gyoza might be too much (& she was right)…. Clean and contemporary Japanese inspired decor. There’s a lot to like …. Particularly if your looking for a genuine Japanese restaurant…. It just doesn’t quite hit a wow moment, though the price is very reasonable.

Food was excellent. Drinks were highly concentrated with alcohol. Service was absolutely terrible. Generous serving sizes, cheers for the take home doggy box - will work well for lunch tomorrow. Shoutout to the brunette with eyelash extensions who moped around like we were a burden on her. Respect that she remembered our order though. Editor’s notes: To our shock horror, we were charged a whole extra $1 for the takeaway box - so order with caution!!

I enjoyed their desserts, namely, the Japanese Style Parfait. The strawberry and traditional parfaits are my favourites. Personally an 8/10 place for desserts in Chinatown.

Incredibly huge menu, all food was amazing. Try the sushimi, it's absolutely fresh and delicious!

Nice restaurant .good service .lot of different varieties.

This place has been having understaffing issue for a long time. We were sitting at the table for nearly 25 minutes to be finally served. And further waiting for the food to come out. We saw a couple walked out after waiting too long for their food and we nearly did too. My son was insisting on eating there and that’s why we stayed. It was busy with one big group of people being the reason of all the delay, but as a restaurant on a Friday night, they were not prepared and understaffed. We have been to another restaurant a couple of weeks ago with full booking (so full that they had to turn a few customers away), only one floor staff and ONE chef in the kitchen. We were served and received our food within half an hour! We had 5 people and ordered a lot of food including a live lobster! All food were served within 45 minutes. Goyoza should really consider their staffing problem and put more people on for the price they charge. Food was not cheap but the service was.

This may be the best Japanese restaruant in Adelaide. I have spent a significant amount of time in Japan and tasted traditional Japanese cuisine. Gyoza gyoza is as good as it gets. In addition the staff are super friendly and mostly of Japanese origin which just adds to the experience. The drinks menu is huge! With many Japanese sake and whisky to taste as well as 1litre jug options of beer cider mocktail and cocktails. My favourite place in Adelaide, highly recommend.

Shame because I really like this place but I’ve given it numerous chances and I’ve just been let down every single time. Last night was probably the worst service I’ve had in a long time, we were waiting so long for dishes that we were there for a total of almost 2 and a half hours. Staff walked past our table numerous times, or even served us dishes, only to ignore the empty plates. Then there was this one waitress who would stand there awkwardly with a dish and expect us to put the dirty dishes on her tray? She even brought us dishes that weren’t ours and was just completely clueless.... not to mention an extreme lack of customer service skills. We ordered dessert before our last dish arrived and for some sorbet and soft serve icecream which didn’t even come out together. My boyfriend had to awkwardly sit there watching me eat mine after he had finished his... 15 mins before I got mine. A 40 minute wait for some icecream is unacceptable. The only person who bothered to come round and check on us was the manager, but I filled out a feedback form and all I got was an apology, no discount or anything for the poor service. Extremely disappointed and not coming back!!!!!

This place deserves an ironic 5. The service was so deplorable that we're still laughing over how bad our eperience was. The experience started off pretty strong with polite staff and a lovely atmoshpere. After 15 minutes our drinks order was taken and confirmed by 3 other people confusedly. The food order was another 10 minutes later and had to be confirmed twice. It was humouring it was almost like opening night with new staff. They were the definition of incompetent, even though lovely. The food come out staggered but it tasted alright. The order come to 91 dollars for about 6 plates. They said there would be a 1% surcharge but the order come to about 95 dollars. Making about a 7% surcharge.... If anyone else wants to go out for gyoza id recommend this place for the flim flamming experience! Or realistically go to kintaro for about 85 gyoza pieces for the same price.

Have been here four times in the last couple of months because I actually really like the food however the service is pretty laughable. The first time I went the lady serving us said “f**k” under her breath as she put our plates out. Every time iv been iv been charged more than the advertised price. And the price of the matcha soft serve has gone up every time iv returned. As well as having to pay $1.5 for a cardboard doggy bag. On Saturday night, they messed up or drinks and then returned with the proper ones only to get our drinks only half full?

Gyoza Gyoza is based on a Japanese Izakaya bar which is not too dissimilar to a Spanish Tapas and Cerveza bar. Both places have small portions of inexpensive food to be eaten with what may end up being copious amounts of alcohol. I don't drink alcohol so a Coke was fine with me, the other half of course does but we were here for the food. If you are looking for a meal where you eat an entree, main and dessert, then you walked into the wrong place. While you're here, sit down, order a drink and some food. You won't be disappointed. We started with Tilapia Sashimi. I'd never had Tilapia before, my friends in America have told me about Tilapia but I've never tried it. As soon as I saw Tilapia sashimi, I had to have it. It was divine. The Tilapia itself was fresh and the flavour delicate. When married with a little wasabi and dipping sauce, it was sensational. Under the Tilapia was grated daikon radish which lifted the flavour and changed it once more. Abalone Salad with fried wontons skins, now that was beyond sensational. The abalone alone was superb. When the abalone and fried wanton were introduced to my taste buds, they did a little dance and I swear I heard a sigh from them. Okonomiyaki is seriously delicious. The gyoza, bite sized pieces of heaven. Tori No Karaage is what I call Japanese KFC but crunchier. Kids love karaage. I need to mention the staff last night were brilliant. We were very well looked after. Thank you Lok for making me feel welcome while waiting for my husband.

The food was nice and even though the $6.80 for every plate deal seemed good, as a vegetarian I found it a bit disappointing. Fair enough for meat and seafood, but c'mon, $6.80 for a small handful of spinach stalks is a bit ridiculous. On a positive note: the soy green tea soft serve is SO DARN GOOD!

The food is amazing. Fantastic menu options. Great cocktail selection. And the place looks warm and inviting. Highly recommended.

Gyoza Gyoza is a fabulous place to eat! Delicious food and boasts an amazing drinks menu! The staff are friendly and were more than willing to assist us during the evening. This is our new favourite restaurant in Adelaide. This was our second visit and definitely not the last 😍.

Service was a little bit of a miss the night we went, with nearly 10 minutes just waiting for a menu. The menu is comprehensive which was exciting, though didn’t live up to expectation. The signature gyoza was cold and undercooked, and octopus was soggy from what tasted like overused oil. It was busy and it seems the loads of little serves racing around the restaurant saw a dip in the expected quality. All and all edible and the flavors were there, though not rave worthy in this visit! We may try again at a quieter time because it was a cool place with more to offer than what we experienced on this occasion.
F4fitfunfoodfly
We had soft shell crab burgers, sashimi, fried chicken, lotus chips, scallops, tofu, potato croquets, edamame, oysters, 2 lots of gyozas all for 3 people. Fast service. Polite staff. Quite corner for us to chat about Adelaide. Worth coming back!
Burgers Of Melbourne
Just like Melbourne, Gyoza Gyoza is doing a fantastic job. I came to Adelaide for a work trip and recognised the brand. The quality of food is amazing and consistency is on point, no matter which store you visit. Highly recommend, at $6.8 per dish, value is amazing!

We went here last night, the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced.. we ordered drinks and waited half an hour for one drink to be served and had to remind the waitress of the other 4 drinks we were waiting on.. still waited a while for those drinks to be served. When the food started coming out we had to ask which dumplings were what as we were served we just got told “here are your dumplings” we ordered 3 different flavours I think it’s pretty average to have to ask which ones were what. The food service was also very slow - we asked to add something as we were still hungry .. half an hour went by and didn’t receive any food so we asked for the bill and to not worry about the extra meal ordered to which the response was “oh we didn’t have that written down”

We left unsatisfied and still hungry.. you know it’s not a good time if you have to stop by and get a burger on the way home.

Great decor and friendly staff. The food was excellent and it was nice to have a number of small plates to share. We will definitely go back. Prices are comparable with yum cha

Had a wonderful night! Tasty food with amazing and super helpful staff, the menu is easy to navigate and is diverse with food to fit everyone. The staff are happy to help if you have any questions, the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Perfect for groups or even if you just want a snack by yourself.

Had an amazing time here today. The food was amazing and a really friendly staff. Would not be able to pick a fave for sure.
Will definitely come again for the food and location.

Amazing service and soft shell crab burger 🍔. Spicy miso gyoza and okonomiyaki were well presented and tasted amazing. Recommend this place for a late night eatery.

great plum wine LOVE IT!The most popular thing in here is the matcha ice cream. The dumplings are awesome and servied with a uniq styling plate. It‘s a really good place to enjoy some time with friends.
Annie Kins
Lovely lunch with friends. Our favourites are the agedashi tofu, karage chicken with sweet chilli sauce, pork and garlic gyoza and hot soba!
We definitely recommend :)
Louise
I really liked the onions in the sizzling pork belly and the spicy fried chicken was really good~ I will definitely come back because the prices are so cheap
Zilin Peng
Very good food. Friendly staff!!!!!!! The matcha ice cream is amazing, and cheap!! Why the review has to be over 140 characters, way too long.
Amanda
Great service, delicious food. Would definitely recommend. All the dishes were full of flavour and cooked well. Will be coming back again soon! I especially love how the meals come in small portions, so you can get a variety of different dishes to share around.
Kwin Phan
The restaurant has a really good selection of fresh food. The mini burgers and cocktails are great to try. Very nice customer service and fast serving!
Monica Lee
My partner and I started coming to GyozaGyoza for their soy soft serve ice cream. Love the classic Matcha flavour and also tried Hoicha and Sakura&Lychee mixes.
The texture and flavour&sweetness is perfect and I admit it is one of the best soft ice cream we had so far.
Today we came to try their food menu and the atmosphere and tapas style menus make this place great to have drinks with friends to share small nibbles and bites.
We were disappointed with their Gyoza. It seemed to have been steamed then very lightly pan fried on one side so it lacked the crunchy texture and left the flavour very bland.
Other menus we tried were Udon, Takoyaki, Scampi sashimi, Salmon Tataki salad, Tori Karaage, Crab Cream Croquette. All were enjoyable.
Service and staffs are all quite friendly every time we visited. I would highly recommend this place for soft serve ice creams and to enjoy cold Japanese tap beer with friends on hot summer days.

Nice dessert. Chilling and cool atmosphere. My favourite is always mix soft serve ice cream. This is always our favourite to place for a night out.
Angel Cheung
Food quality and service was really good! The fried and soup gyoza is tasty. The overall serving size is quite small - which is expected from Japanese cuisine - but larger serving size would be nice.

Friend recommend this lovely Japanese restaurant. There are several Japanese restaurants in Adelaide. But this one is special. It serve plates of small portion food range from 6-8$. Good varieties of dishes suit for every taste, good presentation and flavors as well. Recommended! If you think you tried every Japanese restaurants in Adelaide.

Amazing selection of food at a great price. Service and selection of alcohol is extraordinarily. We have been here a number of times now and highly recommend it!
Chelsea
The staff at Gyoza Gyoza were very friendly and quick to seat us. Gyoza Gyoza has a nice atmosphere, however the food was just alright - gyoza was small and octopus tentacle was tough. Takoyaki also lacked filling and pork belly wasn't sizzling and hot...
Jannii Xue
Great customer service. Authentic food! Nice environment. Really enjoyed our dining experience here at Gyoza Gyoza. Highly recommend the Scallop sushi, lotus root chips and the lobster slider.
Brenda Evelyn

Service was excellent, everyone was so polite and helpful, the food is affordable and well worth it! We loved every dish — so much so we had to take a flat lay photo haha!

We could tell there was care and thought and love put into the food, delicious! We'll be back again!

This restaurant offers really good Japanese food. Burgers were very delicious and it is a place to go with friends. There were some rice as well.
Bobbi Lena
Really delicious food! I had the iced matcha soft serve drink and it comes with soy milk not regular, my lactose intolerance didn’t stop my ice cream cravings for once! The ice cream was honestly the best matcha ice cream I’ve had before too, so happy, will return again
Charlotte Tian
Love the food here and all of the staff is friendly!! We really enjoy the moment when we are here! And the song is pretty beautiful by the way!

It's a great place, the food and drink are both very good. l love the Mocha draft Beer! The taste of the mocha draft beer is great. The Calpico grape shochu cocktail is tasty as well, lovely pink color and great grape flavor, drink not like shochu, more like grape soda, girl's favorite! the Mocha ice cream is wonderful, really recommended that one!

Absolutely amazing culinary delights at gyoza gyoza, beautiful friendly staff and even better food... Absolutely recommend this restaurant for an amazing experience
Joanna Tao
Great food! Great atmosphere! Great service! What more do you want? They also have a loooooooong list of drinks. Everyone loved the Yukke (raw beef salad) and also the stir fry spicy pork belly.
Ally
Great and delicious Japanese tapas food and selections at reasonable price. Gyoza, the wagyu beef sushi and the sashimi were great. Will recommend this place to friends and family
Sherrietang07
Nice food. Nice staff. Nice playlist. The best Matcha and Hojicha dessert we’ve ever tried. The atmosphere is nice and chill. Highly recommended.
Jason Kimber
This is the best Japanese restaurant in Adelaide. Huge menu selection. Very generous size dishes. Delicious food and very reasonable prices.
Matt Phelan
Always love coming here! Great vibe and great food!

Definitely recommend trying a variety of different dishes when you come - the food is consistently quality/10
Gyoza Gyoza has a friendly staff and food at reasonable prices. My friends and I would always hang out here as they have upbeat music that are relatable and it gives you happiness when you are stressed out. In addition, it has both light and heavy food for lunch or Dinner and their Soft serve is tastes so good specially on a hot day.
Gary
Friendly Staff, great environment and excellent food. Great service. People who have a genuine care for their job. I like entering and not being judged. I like the non stereotypical people who work there.
Kevin Fernandes
Polite staff who guide you through the options from the Japanese cuisine. a must try is the asahi black beer which I had for the first time and loved it with the food
Rasha Kardo
The food is amazing! Always love eating here. I have never had a bad meal here. The service is great, very polite employees. The location and the setting of this establishment is great.

Have been to this place multiple times and tried nearly all its dishes. Most of them are decently priced and tasty. Beverages are fantastic. Friendly and polite staff, varies of food to select from. The Gyoza for $4.8 is a must try!
Sean8911
Nice environment and good variety of food choices. Vegetarian friendly as well. The traditional pan fried pork and garlic gyoza is amazing and only $4.8 for 5 pieces.
Phil
Food was good value, taste was simple and letting the food speak for it self.
Staff was friendly and attentive.
Highly recommend the Duck Giblets, Yukka, Takoyaki, Grilled ox heart, Octopus tentacles
Lau Changwei
Food is great and have variety choices of selection . Service is excellent. Environment is marvellous! Highly recommended! It is a place to bring your friends and have a great moment!

We came here Friday night for dinner. The service is good, food is served quickly, food is nice, will definitely come back. Lot of choices to choose from.
Fit & Fed Foodie
This used to be 5 stars when it opened, I’ve come here quite a few times but in the last year, the few times I’ve come they’ve been off their game. The sashimi options aren’t fresh, I had some inedible cuts of tuna, was just so chewy and not right. I told staff and still got charged for it even though it was basically untouched and attempted to be chewed. This has put me off. Apart from that some of the usual small dishes like pictured were still nice, but when they stop doing fresh sashimi that’s a BIG problem and wouldn’t take responsibility for poor performance I have to draw the line. Regular customer lost.
Matty K
Food was great but the portions weren't filling enough for the price. The layout was nice but could have done with some more room. But id definitely go again
Yolanda Qian
Ridiculously overpriced, small proportions.
Their sashimi was supposed to feed 3 people, could barely satisfy one. Guess the price of it: $60
Lucia Guo
Very friendly staff and tasty food. Perfect for a light dinner. The wague beef and the miso eggplant were the best. You can find most of the Japanese food here in small portion.

The fresh food was not fresh. Sashimi was frozen and some of it stale. The manager couldn't tell us what the different fish were on the sashimi plate. The salmon belly was all salmon fat. No one cared about any of this when they were informed as the meal progressed. All we got told by the waitress who brought the bill out was 'Don't put this review online'. Thanks.

Came here by recommendation from some of my group since they had a good experience last time. Decor and ambience is very nice, I was impressed. They have an extensive menu

I didn't enjoy the food too much though. We ordered a lot of dishes, only some pictured. Can't believe I'm complaining about too much sauce but there really was too much on some of the dishes. The problem was it was overly salty so it wasn't that pleasant to eat. I was told it wasn't this salty last time they went so it could be a one off.
I did enjoy the soft shell crab salad and salmon tataki salad.

The large deluxe sashimi plate was fresh and had a good assortment. The Salmon yukke in it was initially very nice but the large amount of salty dressing made it hard to finish

If you don't know what an izakaya is, its a type of pub that offer small / appetizer meals at a cheap price. Its a place to eat, drinking and be loud. Its Japan's answer to what we call 'happy hour' after work.

All the plates are indeed $6.80, some portions are either bigger or smaller depending what you have.

The food came out at a reasonable time. We had nothing to do, so we just took our time and relaxed. The only bad thing was the crab croquette was not fried enough as the inside was still a bit cold. I would like the Hojicha with green tea ice-cream to come in a litre size glass and that would be perfect.

This place have seem to turn an izakaya into a higher market / classier place. Which there is nothing wrong with it but it would be better if they experiment different flavour combination and add more variety to their menu. To me it feels like I'm eating simple but overly priced Japanese food in a fancy place. A+ for the drinks menu though.

A real izakaya is a place to go to when you feel peckish and need a few drinks to wind yourself down after a long day. Its not a place to go have dinner or you'll become poor pretty fast.

Don't be turned off by the low rating, just give it a try. Its my second time and I will definitely go back..

Unfortunately Gyoza Gyoza has deteriorated since my last visit. It needs a good clean. The service was friendly but slow and the gyozas were not good.
Socheath Meach
Wasn't the best but moderately priced . Can't say I'd be in a rush to come back anytime soon . Lots of other Japanese places close by but was the only one opened at the time

Wandering up and down Gouger Street looking for just the right place for lunch, we spotted the All Dishes $6.80 sign, noticed the cuisine was Japanese and thought, well, this is worth a shot!

We entered this fairly nice establishment and noticed the nice dining cubicles facing us along the wall, this is where we wanted to sit, but no! We were not allowed to sit there! We were ushered to another table with a couple right next to us and we actually had to state that we did not want to be seated there and why could we not sit in the booth? These booths were in the same room as other diners! Go figure? I could not see any plausible reason for not being able to sit there. That was the start to our experience.

Finally seated next to another couple, where you can clearly hear their conversation even though the music was super loud, (waaaay too loud for a restaurant), we were handed our menus for perusal. As we were perusing away, I was feeling really cold, it was a pretty nice wintery day and yet no heating was on and it wasn’t going to be switched on either, so I was told! (this is the 3rd restaurant in a couple of weeks that I have been to where there is simply no heating, I really despise that owners are more worried about the power bill than their own customers and for this reason I will not return to these particular establishments!

So peeps, there we have it so far, cold, loud music, seating that sucks and we haven’t got to the food yet!

We ordered Black Truffle Tamamo Yaki, spicy pork belly, panfried duck & eggplant gyoza, Yakatori with truffle salt, fried quail. There was quite a lot on the menu, so it was a little difficult to choose, they also have all the normal Japanese staples.

The Tamamo (egg dish) was served cold, too cold actually, was okay, they were serving this dish warm at the Tsukiji markets in Tokyo when I was there and no comparison really. Pork belly nice charred flavour but super slim slices and not really spiced. Gyoza had a really nice thin skin but very little filling. Yakatori was nice enough, but tiny. Quail was tender and not too dry, but again very small. I understand why everything is $6.80, the servings are very quaint, so if you are really hungry, you would need to order quite a bit!

Would I return? Probably not, it’s just so difficult to get really good Japanese food in Adelaide (exceptions, Takumi and Wasai) and when you have been to Japan and devoured your way around this mecca of fabulous food, well you just compare everything!!

Came back here a second time after a wonderful first experience. However, the second time dining here made me a little disappointed as the food was not how I remembered it. Some of dishes the food was bland and the wafu beef was very chewy and I could not even take a bite from it. The staff were super friendly though so the service was great. Just a little disappointed on the food side of things. The drinks we had were awesome though!!
Dstuart36
Went here for lunch, service was very poor. Even though there were only three tables with diners and four waitstaff walking around, it took 20 minutes to get our order taken and another 40 minutes to get our food. This is crazy since we were only ordering fried gyoza and yakatori. Food was tasty, however.
Harper
Food portions were really small and felt more like an appetiser, although it was fair as it was 6.80. Had the burger myself and there was barely any lobster and a ton of veggies. Also laced with wasabi, which I was definitely not expecting. Would be nice to have a heads up and if I'd known, would not have ordered.

Matcha soft serve was delicious though, and was definitely worth the $$.

As we were looking for some place to eat at on a cold Friday night. We have stumbled upon this restaurant across the china town. We were looking at their menu and one of their waiters approached us and welcomed is properly. He also knew that we were new to the place so he immediately said " all dishes are $6.80". Well yep that got us immediately, who could say no to a Japanese place that offers 6.80 price for all of their dishes ?

We've ordered the deep friend oysters, tori chicken Karaage, stir fried pork belly, ebi Panko, and Yakitori chicken skewers with truffle salt.

Alright they food was okay tho I know why it's only 6.80 each. The plates and the dishes were like appetisers. Small plates, not so generous servings and slightly above average taste.

Will we come back? Well that depends. The restaurant's waitress and waiters were pretty slow and unprofessional. We had to wait for at least 15 minutes to order our food. Might as well go to a decent Japanese restaurant with decent and appetising main dishes.
Shenny Chiang
The environment is better than food.
Good customer service.
All dishes are 6.8 but just enough for 2 girls.
It's fine generally :) I enjoyed.
Level-headed
Dined here a few times. Food is nice. Tonight we asked to sit in a booth and were told they were all booked. We had to sit on the other side of the restaurant which has a very different, cheap feel. Not one single group sat at a booth for the whole night. I can't support a restaurant that puts its priorities of not getting certain tables dirty ahead of its customers. I'm not coming back.

Now.. where to start on this horrid place. My husband and friend came in here on a Friday night, place was packed. Not sure why lol. Anyways the staff are never around to help and when waved down to be helped they purposely ignore you. We were sitting at the table for 20 min before we received our menus We had to get up and find someone and even then the menus still somehow took so long to arrive. Okay now the food!!! WAS APPALLING. The chicken wings were bland, the salt and pepper squid was small tentacles that had been coated the shit out of in batter and deep fried (super oily). The seaweed was bland with no flavour. The quail was also battered and deep fried oh gosh that was so oily and not edible yuck!!!! Oh and stuff was missing that we ordered - no apology whatsoever. We ordered a beer and that also never came out.. I wonder how long this place will last and I really think the positive reviews on here are fake from the owners or something because the food and service is out of this world. One other thing that I'd have to say about this place is the green tea ice cream. Now THATS the bomb. Amazing I recommend getting the soft serve from there.

Ordered the Beef Tataki Salad, Chef Special Pan-Fried Gyoza and a Lemongrass and honey T2 tea and paid $20. The food was average with not much on the plate and it was different to what was presented on their menu. I've been curious to try the food, and I'm glad I went but I don't be visiting again.
Dieter
Food: it's good, but a little slow getting out. Big selection (for Adelaide) of sake and plum wine.
Service: Friendly enough but not that attentive
Ambience: it's a nice place to hang out, presentation is excellent

It makes me so happy that one of my Melbourne faves has a franchise here in Adelaide! Such an extensive menu of Japanese bar style 'tapas' @ $6.80 a plate. Brilliant for sharing. My personal favourites include the crab balls, soft shell crab salad 🦀, okonomiyaki. The signature gyoza lovely as a soup! However I can't fault any of it! Not quite as funky decor wise as the Melbourne one but it's still a gem! I'll be here over and over again!!
Jeremy
Terrible service- 1 hour wait after asking 4 times what happened to our order. Never to return. I took a feiend for his birthday but was embarassed to have recommended this place. Lots of apologies but no service or food. The only ok was the asahi.
Kathryn Cerchez
Waited 40 minutes to discover they had not placed our order in their system, then was charged $4.90 for a single soft drink! Left, paying this ridiculous price hungry and annoyed.
Geogiefoodie
Pretty average food for the price you pay.
Might as well go sushi train or genki.
Some of the dishes has no seasoning or flavour.
Miso soup was too salty.
Green tea soft serve was good though.
Chris Pen
Slow service, slow food. Miso soup too salty and too much miso and it was cold. Gyoza and beef salad was decent. The rest of the food lacked flavour, overall pretty average. Not worth the price you pay.
Lauren Hokulani
The iced drinks caught our eyes! So we went in. There were little to no prices listed which worried us. It was very reasonably priced. Each dish is set priced. My husband got a strong tea with green tea ice cream and I got the peach tea with the green tea ice cream on the side as the sorbet that was orginally suppose to be on top was out of stock.
The food was perfection! No complaints! Perfectly portioned and cooked. We could have passed on the steak, but still worth the try.
Worth every penny!
Food: amazing!
Drinks: great, but i could leave it.
Parking: theres some.
Price: very reasonable!!
Service: decent/good, but it was hot. So no complaints there.

I haven't had a lot of Japanese but this was a great restaurant to try different dishes. I liked how we could order tapas. I would be happy to try again.

First impression....Japanese fusion...quite impressed with the artistry of the food and interior design. The attention to detail on how the food look and taste. Harmonious balance of ingredients. Good taste, surprisingly unique and fresh. Good price, location and staff. Two thumbs up!

I really like the soft serve matcha ice cream 😊. Everytime I go to chinatown, i make it a point i visit the shop. 😀. The staff are friendly and nice.

Good selection of tapas style Japanese food and a wide selection of drinks, however I have had better Japanese in Adelaide and would rather go to Wasai or Himeji nearby. The service was not fantastic - the waitresses had a hard time understanding us trying to order some sauce and then we were told we were to be charged if we order more. Drinks took a long time to come out and eventually got them halfway through the meal. We also ordered some extra pickled ginger (no one mentioned an additional cost) to add to our plates which came out at the end of our meals and we were charged for it when the bill came out! Average food and service, will not be back for a while.

Izukaya bars are getting more and more popular in Adelaide. For those of you that are not familiar with the term 'Izukaya' it basically refers to Japanese bar that offers a bar for casual drinks and also sit down dining. The location of this bar is on the busy Gouger Street surrounded by many eateries. It was once the Celsius bar. The decor hasn't changed much at all, it offers booths and communal seating, more of a contemporary dining setting. With over 80 popular Japanese tapas to choose from, it will definitely take you some time to look through the menu. The good thing about it is everything on the menu is $6.80.

One of my favourite japanese establishments in Adelaide, the food is traditional mixed with modern, the Saki and Umesu collection is to die for, I highly recommend this place for Japanese food novices and professionals.

Nice environment but standard service. I would recommend their gyoza but honestly their steaks are always overcooked although they claim their steaks can only be medium rare. All in all, a nice place to try something new and different but not exactly a good place to visit regularly. By the way, if you are paying on card and it's under $15 dollars they charge you $1 surcharge, but they won't tell you when you are ordering and it's not on their menu.

Food are excellent! The service is good! The view is good for communication and enjoy the moment. We always come to find Riho who is the one beautiful and perfect waitress 😍!

Brilliant Japanese tapas a diamond in the rough from all the average asain food on gouger street. Atmosphere was extremely beautiful and modern

A lovely place open till very late which makes it a very attractive option for that late-night snack! All plates are $6.80 and there's quite an extensive alcohol menu as well.

The service is great and the people are lovely.

I've had the apple green tea and mango colada. Absolutely loved the mango colado.
In terms of food I've had the grilled ribs, steak, takoyaki, salmon tataki, dumplings (the pork ones and the kimchi ones), teriyaki chicken, sweet and sour pork, udon in soup, baked scallops and fried oysters. Generally everything is pretty good.

I however very much recommend the ribs and the dumplings. I also really liked the udon in soup but be warned its only udon in soup, you'll have to order extra dishes if you want to eat your udon with anything.

My SO and I really like this place so definitely will be back!
This was my first time here. The food here is really good. Service was great and we hardly had to wait long for our food to come out. Feeling very full after an enjoyable meal. Would come again.

Delicious and authentic Japanese food. Love the decor and ambience. Staff friendly and helpful. Great selection of food. Would definitely recommend. Been 3 times in 4 months and has been consistently great!

Food here is delicious! This is my third time here since we discovered it in August. I don't live any where near the city but it is worth the trip every time.

What a funky place! Excellent friendly and efficient service...happy waitresses!! Broad menu of tapas style Japanese food... about $6.80 per plate... they tell u plates r very small but having a gastric sleeve I found 1 dish sufficient... so hubby was very happy as he had the rest... salmon sashimi was sliced thickly... I prefer thin slices...wasabi wasn't hot but all the food was fresh, beautifully presented and very delicious! Drink and wine menu extensive and good prices... fried rice was excellent and my daughter who doesn't like anything too adventurous loved the chicken skewers and chicken terriyaki. I didn't tell her the fried root veg wasn't potatoe chips but she liked that too.... we will b back!!

Many reviews talk about bad customer service.. however my experience was very different, very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff.
The food is delicious, but yes it does come out staggered, so if that bothers you then perhaps its not the place to come. Price wise, i feel it was pretty reasonable.
The waitress warned that the servings are small so i ordered 4-5 however 3 would have been plenty.

The food here is good and delicious! 😋 It's really a nice place having lunch and dinner with friends (and drink some beer or sake😍). I'm willing to gyoza gyoza again;)

Have been here a few times, in terms of the service I would say it's a bit hit and miss, it's all just depending who's serving you on the day.

The price may sound quite cheap but the serving size is actually fairly small. You'll end up spending $$$ to be filling and satisfied.

Anyhow the reasons I keep going back there are the variety of the food and the food themselves are quite yummy.

The place is beautiful, very good and organized, the food was good, the best the chicken teriyaki but the service was bad. The food was in different times, several waiters, we ordered some dishes when we finished but they forget about our order. Maybe was better if you go with no many people. I am not sure if I want to go there again!

Great setting. A lot of cash has gone into the fit out of the place here.

The idea is that you order small plates of food to share with each other. Dare I use the dreaded T word and say Japanese Tapas? No? Then I won't mention it.

The price structure is simple - all plates are $6.80. Now there are signs up saying that this price is an "opening special" so I'm not sure just how permanent that structure is. But on the other hand they've been open for a couple of months now and those opening specials are still going so maybe it's a long term thing.

There were three of us and we ordered seven plates between us: seaweed salad; duck and miso gyoza in sho-yu soup; teriyaki chicken; grilled salmon belly; pork and garlic gyoza; vegetable fritters and sweet and sour pork.

To me the seaweed salad tasted exactly like it sounds: like a mouth full of seawater. But one member decided it was delicious and ate the lot.

The duck and miso gyoza had less flavour than you might expect hearing those ingredients. The soup was tasty though.

The chicken had good flavour but was excessively oily - even greasy.

The grilled salmon was odd. Two pieces of salmon. The first piece was full of large bones and the second was completely boneless. Flavour was good, but pulling bones like sewing needles out of your mouth while eating wasn't pleasant.

In the menu photo (the menu is one of those big glossy numbers where every candidate gets a to be styled and photographed beautifully) the pork gyoza were fried. When they arrived they were steamed. They really needed to be fried to give them some interest. The filling was bland and the steamed casing made them a bit like ravioli without the sauce.

The vegetable fritters had taste but needed a few more minutes in the deep fryer. Once again, what was pictured in the menu and what arrived on the plate didn't match. In the menu the thing was golden brown and looked crispy and crunchy. What arrived was beige and a bit doughy.

Finally the sweet and sour was overpoweringly vinegary. Less "sweet and sour" more "SOUR and ... oh yes.... sweetish".

Look nothing was really terrible, we came out full of food and while those $6.80 plates are on the menu you can't complain about the value.

But I can't help feeling that a five minute walk across Morphett Street to Genki Sushi Bar would see you spending less money for better food. Or a walk around the corner to Wasai would see you spending a bit more, but eating much much better.

Was it all right? Sure. Will I race back again. Probably not.
Laura
While the set-up is impressive, the food isn't. The vegetable dumplings were so bland and filled with processed, sloppy potato mash and a few small pieces of frozen peas & carrot... Don't bother.

New Japanese tapas style restaurant from Melbourne has taken up precedence on Gouger Street in place of the once high end Celsius Restaurant. Most of the decor has been left intact so you’ll be treated to a rather slick, modern and contemporary looking Japanese eatery serving over 80 different tapas style dishes, all priced at $6.80 each!

Came back here about a week later and either the food is very inconsistent or quality took a dive real quick. Proceed with caution.

---

Unfortunately never made it to Celsius, but I suspect a lot of the grandeur of this space was inherited from it. Walking along the corridors to the stark and monochromatic toilets, I can't imagine that the previous tenants would have stored their cartons of drinks haphazardly as Gyoza Gyoza have. Nevermind, it's still an impressive space that is modern, casual and now, tastefully Japanese. The food is pretty good too and definitely designed for sharing. We enjoyed everything save for the karage which was unfortunately more on the dessicated end of the scale. Worth noting is their collection of saki and shochu. I don't drink, but my friend who is an avid lover of saki was pleasantly surprised by their range. Not a place to go to to get full on food - a place to go to to have snacks, drinks and good conversation. Expect to pay about $20-$30 per person.

Poppy did the quick pop in to Gyoza Gyoza for lunch one day during the week. The brand new fitout was quite contemporary and sleek, I liked it. Plenty of room and many tables. We ordered a few different types of Gyoza with various fillings such as prawn, chicken, pork, spring onion, shallots and beef. They are quite reasonably priced and service was cheerful. I entered conversation with the owner/manager about his new venture and how much work it took to realise. The Gyoza were cooked perfectly and quite delicious. Extremely moorish. Will definitely be back for a nice romantic dinner in future as the fitout is fitting for a dinner date or a catch up with friends. Thumb up, worth an eat.

***Revised review
Average to say the least. Went for lunch on a public holiday and service was poor. Dishes were also not up to scratch. Didn't taste fresh or like there was much love in them. The Gyoza are extremely bland and taste like ones from the frozen packet at the supermarket. Won't be coming back.

Friends told me about this place and I just had to give it a go. It was quite a good deal we thought for $6.80 per plate! There were many options eg. steak, sashimi, gyoza, noodles, etc to choose from. And to top it off, green tea soft serve at a mere $2.80! We had a great night!
Anna Lam
Nice Japanese restaurant with some decent food. It was more like a tapas sort of thing rather than full meals so people need to be prepared for that instead of assuming for 6.80 you would get big full meals. Interior designing was very nicely set out.

I attended gyoza gyoza with my husband and children. It was a lovely experience for all of us. Staff were friendly and interior is well decorated with hints of the buildings previous life as a high end restaurant left as well. I love this. I am impressed with the owners decision to incorporate elements of the previous design into their own. It appeals to my eco-friendly nature. Now, for the food! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The dishes were all the same price and all were beautifully presented and well prepared. There use of local produce and fresh ingredients was evident by the flavors and crispness of the salad ingredients. Some is street food, other dishes more up market. We loved it all, with something for everyone. As for drinks my children loved the Japanese style lemonade etc, with the marble in the bottle, I had a cider that was crisp, cool and very refreshing. Others at the table had sake and said it was great. As for service, the staff were warm and friendly. Speaking with the owners, they expressed their enjoyment of Japanese cuisine and also apologized if there was a delay in our food arriving as they had only been open three weeks at the time of our visit. To be honest, we had not noticed any! It takes time for any new business and staff to become a well oiled machine but these guys will do so because their heart is in it. Their enjoyment of Japanese food is their inspiration and their desire for all the customers to enjoy the experience is evident. A really great place to take the family for a relaxed and interesting dining experience. We will be back!

This is my new favourite place and I can't wait to bring all my friends here! If you love places like Sushi train (where you pick loads of little dishes and make them into one big meal) you'll love Gyoza Gyoza. Basically you order a bunch of small plates and share them amongst your friends. All the dishes I tried were delicious, and they give you all the ingredients to make your own Gyoza sauce, which is really fun (and tasty). The atmosphere is nice, the servers are all friendly and there's a really great selection to try out, as well as an interesting drinks menu featuring lots of imported Japanese drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. There are also loads of vegetarian options as well. They tend to bring the dishes one by one (or two by two) almost like starters, but you can also request them all at once. Give it a go and try the steak and the karaage chicken!

A Japanese style bar and tapas franchise from Melbourne. I have no idea how it's like there but I can assure you that the establishment that took over what once used to be the Celsius restaurant on Gouger street, is disgustingly far from your standard Japanese tapas sake bar culture. Pitiful in terms of food quality, gyoza that is obviously bought off the frozen aisles of Asian groceries in Chinatown, service being incredibly slow (forgetting orders within minutes of just getting them) et cetera. Needless to say, gyoza gyoza Adelaide is only a temporary parasite taking its place in the empty shell that was once Celsius (literally the interior decor is the same). I will not be returning ever.
