Review Chopstix On Rundle - Adelaide

Cheap lunch eats and very tasty. Friendly service and a large gluten free selection.

I don't understand these poor reviews but then happy customers normally don't write...human nature. I have been to nearly all reputable Thai/Asian restaurants in Adelaide and this one is amongst the best. Always fresh and good mix of vegetables and meats in mixed servings. Their sauces are subtle and not too sweet like Asian sauces can tend to be. Also not ridiculously priced and have half price stir fry specials for lunch. I recommend it to everyone

Vietnamese snacks <3 One of my favorite places to eat awesome Asian food. Roti bread for starters with wide range of drink + spicy rice / noodles makes this place great for dinner and lunch. Also, love the customer service. 😍😘

Have been here several times now. The food is always delicious. Really love the Vietnamese spring rolls. Prawn chips served with Satay sauce for dipping also delicious. Plenty of mains to choose from. Salt and Pepper Calamari, honey chicken, pud thai are amongst my favoutites. Have never had to wait long. Staff always helpful and pleasant.

Awesome! Fresh food and outstanding service. Good price for quality meals. Highly recommend to any lovers of Asian food. We'll be back with more people next time we're in Adelaide.

I found blonde hair in my Chicken Plate and my friend found a fly in her plate of prawn crackers. The waiter did not appear sincerely apologetic and I feel like we didn't need to pay for such an experience. It's unfortunate that I will not dine there anymore because it was my third visit and last.

The salt and pepper squid. The first thing I noticed was they had a heavy batter and were cut into squid rings, not the beautiful asian triangles. Secondly, they were very, very salty. They were lying on deep fried garlic and some shrimp/shrimp floss. The dish was very "heavy" and not particularly pleasant. The barramundi was generous and tasty but seriously heavy on the fish sauce and shrimp paste. The sauce was just too much and difficult to continue eating. The lemongrass beef was okay but a lot of it was filler vegetables (more on that later). This restaurant prides itself upon being chinese vietnamese thai. What is lacking here is the vietnamese/thai freshness (the lightness, the herbs) and the delicate balance between sweet/sour/salty in general. There is no fusion to this - it is just heavy handed interpretations. The two main dishes had a large amount of an asian "filler" trio of chinese cabbage, onion and carrot thrown in. Having to use a filler in every dish points to a lack of imagination and a lack of generosity or should I say cheap.

Great tasting food, delivered to the table quickly on a Saturday night. Used an Entertainment Book voucher which made it even cheaper. No need for a booking on this particular night.

Excellent value. It was a busy Wednesday night during Fringe and this place was packed and once the food arrived I realised why - huge serves at very reasonable prices. Even though it was busy we were served in no time and the food came out quickly. Great place for a casual meal.

Took a while for my lunch to come out, but damn son when it arrived, I definitely got more than what I bargained for! My chargrilled lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl ($13) could have very well fed two people considering it was plated to the max. Overall, waiter/owner was friendly, and the food was tasty but not wow.

We positively loved this place! Delicious food, excellent wine and great service too. Two dishes easily satisfied us and we even took a small container home. We'll definitely be going back and soon 🙂

Came here on a busy Friday fringe night. We were quickly seated inside the restaurant and the food came out really fast. Ordered the special fried rice, honey chicken and salt and pepper tofu. The rice and the chicken were quite average and the tofu was a bit dry and was lacking a bit of flavour. But it’s a good place to go to if you’re heading to the fringe and would like a quick bite before heading there.

I really like this place for a nice cheap lunch. Haven't been for dinner but the lunch specials are always great value and tasty. Can't go past a Vietnamese salad bowl!!

Salt & pepper crocodile, as entrée, looked very interesting. A signature roasted duck with duck & plum sauces, Singapore vermicelli noodles with duck, pho beef noodle soup, and BBQ crispy tofu, wouldn't seem to go wrong. However, anything could happen. Vermicelli noodles were too salty. Duck was terribly dry. Beef in noodle soup was in a mixture of minced beef ball & thin slices, but both were bland.
(Food - 2.5/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

Vietnamese is now my favourite cuisine after eating at chopstix. I have now been back twice and have loved both experiences. The food is fresh, fast and tasty. I would highly recommend the mango sauce dish.
They also offer half price lunch meals.

We went here for a quick lunch once and it was nothing but a wonderful experience. We had the salt and pepper Calamaris which I thought was good but really overpriced! We also had one of the lunch's specials which was the roast pork with rice and cabbage salad and that was fantastic! I really loved that dish and I thought that was a pretty well done. This place has a rich "fancy" atmosphere and that probably explains why the food are pricey. Their menu has a big range of options from seafoods to any types of meat. Good food but too pricey for me though it has great potential! ✅

Overpriced but good food and friendly service.
We ordered the garlic tofu which was $18 and satay beef which was $22 - the quality of the food was good, but not great so I think that the meals were slightly overpriced, especially when matching it with similar restaurants. The dining atmosphere was more on the casual side but clean (again an indication it was slightly overpriced)and the staff were very friendly and polite. While we were there they were actually sitting in the restaurant area splitting snow peas - we we can't say the food wasn't fresh. Overall a good experience but the restaurant would benefit from reducing pricing to make it more competitive.

So so so so so so gross.
AND after paying too much for a plate of disgustingness... the meal made both my friend and I really sick!!!!!
If you are ever tempted to eat at this expensive food pit of hell...Walk away...Your stomach will thank you later.

Note: I don't issue many 1.0!!!

This place was so wrong that I paid the $89 and left. The food was ridiculous and amateurish. Nothing was right, the cold rolls were large blocks of ingredients and dipping sauce that was inedible. The chicken skewers were fried or coated with something to make them crispy, we were patient, waited for the mains and then LEFT. I have a high tolerance to low quality food, this place was not even close to knowing how to prepare food, the chicken lemon grass dish used similar techniques to the "crispy" chicken technique used earlier and the chicken didn't seem fresh. The other main, was ridiculous, the fish used in the GREEN CURRY was GRILLED, left in a large block and covered in poorly cut vegetables and the curry. The fish was old or frozen. 1.0...only good for those that doesn't know quality. I include photos of the corruption.

Not great. Mains were super oily and super sweet. Felt like KFC remorse - that feeling you get after you've eaten KFC and feel like crap. Disappointed.

Food was decent and the atmosphere was nice. Customer service was great, not in a hurry to go back however as it's a little too expensive...

Chopstix is underrated. I've eaten here on several occasions and always left satisfied with my meals and the attentive service. They offer a great mix of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, and plenty of options for vegetarians. The Salt and Pepper Tofu is fab - crispy, with a good amount of heat. Dinner is served from 5pm, which is rare in Adelaide and gives them an advantage over surrounding restaurants.

Keep up the top work, team!

Pho was very tasty!! I enjoyed it greatly and after eating such heavy food lately, it was the perfect food for me tonight! To be honest though I wish there was more ! I think it was a little pricy at $19 when in Sydney I could get similar at $14! But other than that, delicious !!

Decent enough Asian food but nothing stand out. Had the Vietnamese spring roll noodle salad. Spring rolls were flavoursome but the nuac cham dressing was lacking in sweetness. Enjoyed my meal but there is better Vietnamese out there.

Had to catch a late dinner and was very glad I did. The Pho was superb with very interesting spice combinations. The staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating.
Fit & Fed Foodie
Had a range of share plates from this place and it's just mediocre Asian food. Oily, high in msg, salty, westernized confused Asian dishes. Nothing done particularly bad but nothing particularly good either. Left unsatisfied and unimpressed by the poor service received for a relatively quiet evening. Would rather go to a hole in the wall place in the burbs than pay city prices for nothing memorable but an upset gut.

It was a seedy Sunday and we were after a good grub and so we decided to try a restaurant we’ve never eaten at before, Chopstix. It’s a cosy little restaurant located on a main street, owned by a lovely vietnamese family. The atmosphere was so inviting and because we were able to communicate to the owner in Vietnamese, it made dining at this restaurant that much better.
Michelle
Asian food cooked to cater the local tastebuds = not good. Will only eat here if it was my last option on Rundle street

Msg fest. Food was tasty and well cooked. but we noticed an obserd amount of msg crystals on our salt and pepper squid and crocodile. also found a black hair in my food. (why they decided to sensor that out my last post eludes me)

I'm a lover of msg, but this is too much.

Fantastic food and friendly service. We visited for a late night dinner. 1030pm and we experienced fast friendly service. The food was superb. We would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definately be returning.
Stella
Not fancy or pretentious but a good quick feed if you don't have a lot of time on your hands. Everything we ordered was fresh and didn't disappoint the taste buds. I had gone off tofu for a while after another dining experience but my faith was restored here as the tofu was cooked to perfection. Overall an enjoyable dinner.
Phil
The best freshest Asian I've ever had with friendly service!!! Bravo.

Cosy & Tasty. We visited Chopsticks mid week, on a cold night. It was pleasantly cosy & not drafty, earning a big plus from me ! With a dozen diners already seated, our service was quick, cheerful & efficient. Our vegetarian dish was delicious, spicy hot with just a hint of sugar. The single main course was enough for two of us, with generous serves of well cooked rice. This restaurant offers a range of styles, based on Thai, Sichuan, Mongolian etc., as do its competitors opposite ( who are also good). Coopers beer $7.50, tap water on request. I would avoid the expensive Italian mineral water next time.

Had a small sharp piece of metal in my food. was told we would recieve a discount off our whole meal, but changed their minds and only took a few dollars off the one meal. Got BOTH of our meals wrong as well. total lack of respect and integrity to turn back on a offered discount, will never go back now.

Mediocre. We dined at Chopstix on a Sunday night, so maybe that explains the pretty ordinary meal. Service started off attentive but was entirely absent after orders were taken - no further offers of drinks, very slow to clear plates and offer dessert. Food was passable and others chose better than I did; my $19 "seafood" laksa was insipid and the seafood consisted of a couple of squid rings and prawns. No fish balls/cake, no mussels or scallops. Disappointing. The Baileys ice cream dessert was better though, particularly for the price ($8). Wouldn't return in a hurry, particularly with Rundle Spices just across the road.

So rubbish. Just feel the food tasteless like rubbish and waiting long time for the food services.
Shirazle
True to label. Great little Asian place on the Rundle strip. It doesn't oversell itself. Food is fresh, tasty and rather delicious.

Dont expect a cultural cylinaey experience here, bucheerful cheap, cheerful and a great place to take a large group with differing tastes. The menu boasts all the crowd favourites from various Asian Cuisines - do big shocks or new flavour combinations but you won't leave disappointed.

Simply the best. What can I say, this is probably my favourite Asian place in Adelaide (and Australia).

It's in my top 5 restaurants in Adelaide and is always good. LOADS of vegie options. Very good value. Always quick and friendly service. Some of my faves include:

1. Lemongrass stirfry (you can have it vego or with your choice of meat) - THE tastiest sauce I've ever tried
2. Flaming satay - rich and amazing peanut sauce, also available in vego or meat
3. Laksa - rich and creamy, every mouthful is a treat
4. Tom Yum Soup - so refreshing and insanely tasty
5. Green curry - creamy rich and sweet
6. Funky U Dong Noodles - sweet and delicious sauce, big thick noodles, huge serving

Everything is great and there's no pretence - honest, yummy food. And so so cheap, especially lunch specials!

I LOVE YOU CHOPSTIX!

Chopstix is a birthday tradition for me! The food is amazing! My favourites are flaming chicken satay, veitanamese spring rolls, & hokkien noodles. The service can be a bit hit and miss, but the food makes up for it!

Basil chicken and cashews without basil or cashews!! Poor.

Fantastic!. What an absolute gem of a place. Located on Rundle Street, this trendy Thai restaurant is one of the best I have dined at in Adelaide. Staff are very friendly and helpful, serving sizes are very good at a great price - not to mention tasted amazing! Definitely give it a try if your after a relaxed, comfortable Thai experience.

I always order the pho bo, which seems pretty authentic, though i must go back and check it out since eating it every day for breakfast in Hanoi and Saigon (different in north and south). This is s. viet style with loads of beef and greens. A complete meal.

Hands down our fav place to eat going on 5 years. Salt & pepper crocodile is AMAZING. Hell, you could coat anything in their salt & pepper mix and it would taste good. Big serves, fresh ingredients, friendly service. Discount lunch specials too. You won't regret it.

Viethai?. I am always suspicious of places that try to do more than one type of cuisine. The pho is definitely a no go!
Very disappointing. Basically it's like a Noodle Box joint in restaurant form.
Citizenoftheworld
Excellent value, service, food, perfect location. A perennial favourite with our family. Every time we think about trying somewhere else, we just give up and go back to Chopstix. Food is spectacularly good, fresh and service is lightning fast. My favourite is the Mango crispy noodles. The location couldn't be more perfect for a leisurely afternoon in the East End or to watch the crowds on a warm evening. Prices are ridiculous. Already cheap, lunches are half price!
Adelaidefoodcentral
Chopstix on Rundle is one of two stores in Adelaide of the same name, that offers a combination of Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. Spread over two floors, this place is modernly decorated with a seating capacity of about 100 people.

A great place for lunch in a relaxed, casual setting. The lunch deal meant that we enjoyed cheap but tasty meals!

Serving sizes were great and hearty. Maybe a little too much for 2 of us to finish but we managed with some difficulty. Food was good though especially when we requested for extra spicy! Definitely great comfort food for a gloomy day with a loved one

Quick and tasty feed before catching a doco at Palace Nova down Rundle Street with C bear!
These spring rolls arrived crispy and piping hot! A good dip into the sweet chilli sauce provided and life is good. Unfortunately they were on the oily side cause after we finished our serve, there was a small pool of oil left behind on the plate. (Psst
I think it needed a bit more time to drain out the excess oil. :/ )
One of my favourites at Chopstix; lots of flavour and a huge generous serving with tender chicken pieces. It was more than enough for dinner so the rest was doggy bagged for lunch the next day.
Not as the description suggests as the chicken was pan fried as opposed to being char-grilled. A shame really, cause char-grilled chicken with lemongrass would’ve made such a fragrant dish with huge hits of smoky and lemongrass goodness. Instead, I found the meat too dry and bland so extra lashings of the provided fish sauce was poured over and each mouthful was accompanied with the shr
