Review The Edinburgh Castle - Adelaide

Great little venue that hosts some top local bands and gigs. Has a nice range of local beers and wines. An Adelaide gem!

Relaxing and cozy pub with a mix of traditional and craft beer available. Menu has good options and their burgers are spot on. Staff are super friendly and up for a good chat. Definitely a pub you could call home.

We had our sons 21st in the beer garden at the Ed yesterday . The staff were amazing, and extremely helpful and friendly. No request was too much. The food was great, and there was plenty of it! The garden was a brilliant area for a party so I can strongly recommend it for anyone. Thank you to everyone at the Ed for making it a great day!

Was very impressed with this pub, they had a $10 menu that I thought would be average, but it was one of the best fish and chips I have ever had, at a pub. Only $10 for that quality is a bargain. There was also a great choice of finer dinning on the menu as well ($18-25). Relaxed atmosphere was great too, they played "The Stone Roses", "Fools Gold" while I was eating, classic song, made it a great experience overall.

Food was tasty and filling especially for a $10 meal. Staff are really accommodating and nice, they were very understanding and apologetic with an order slip up. Decor is great, really cosy and comfortable atmosphere. Pool table could be better looked after though.

Cosy old-style pub. One of the oldest pubs in Adelaide. I come here during work-hours for their amazing all-day $10 menu. Lovely vibe with a large outdoor beer garden.

Nice city pub with a large beer garden, good pub meals and easy going staff. The Ed Castle also has regular live music with some of Adelaides best bands as well as regular interstate acts.

Classic old Adelaide pub like they used to be before everything got turned into a cross between a nightclub and a casino. Food great value and tasty, the decor is quirky, nice staff and good selection of drinks. Beer garden has got to be one of the best there is.

We celebrated our sons 21st birthday last night in the function room inside. The bar staff, and waitress were fantastic. Very accommodating to our needs with no hesitations. To the chef and kitchen staff....your food platters were amazing (highly recommend the burger platters). We had so many comments that the venue was great. Thank you Isaac and team for a truly memorable night!

We went to watch a band and have a $10 meal, which was lovely (salt and pepper squid, chips and salad), however the young blonde bar girl ruined our evening. It started badly when I ordered a glass of sparkling to be told it wasn't available by the glass, despite it being listed on the menu. She huffed off to find the manager. She was told that yes it was available by the glass but then apparently they had "sold out". She slammed 3 fridge doors getting me a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and was frankly downright insulting. My partner didn't fare any better when he tried to order. We gave up and went to another bar. I would never go back.

Once again another Greta ' pub grub' meal. Chipotle Burger absolutely delicious, great price, friendly staff as always and the chilled out laid back atmosphere is a welcome relief from the hustle and bustle of modern day pubs.

Came in today with 3 friends after uni and as a low budget spender I was happy with the price of the food and really happy that you get what you pay for :) Almost couldn't finish the meal...almost ;) The service was good, staff were lovely and the whole pub was just gorgeous! Reccommend :)

We called in for a quick drink and listened to a really good three man band. It's always a good experience when we're at the Ed, great atmosphere, super friendly staff, good entertainment in a beautifully kept quaint little corner pub.

The high quality of the food you get from their $10 range is really very surprising. Excellent value for money. A really nice set-up with multiple areas including a 'band room' and a large beer garden.

Went there sunday, only one barman slash waiter, couldnt get a drink, stuffed up food orders...rubbish place

Favourite beer garden in Adelaide, top staff & $10 menu is 👌.

Decade Of Destruction was awesome, Se Bon Ki Ra, Octanic and Arcadia all put on an awesome set each celebrating 10 years together, venue is great for shows with food and drinks available at the bar in the band room

This place isn’t half bad! And staff we’re nice from the start and didn’t bother us. Took place at dinner around 7:40pm. (Was so hungry and we sat in the backyard) Nice place and great food!Loaded Fries & Salt n Pepper Calamari, was my order. (side: salad chips, lemon and some sauce.) it’s def comfort food but overall a nice experience dining in the city.

Home of the $10 menu, you couldn't go wrong. You could even justify an hour wait or the wrong meal. We went there last week for a birthday. Group of about 14 of us. I ordered chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce on the side. I Hate soogy schnitzel. We were surprised to see the increase of the menu. $1 or $2 increase justifiable but $6 is over the top. When the lady brought the food over to us she called chicken schnitzel with plain gravy. Twice. It clearly wasn't mine. She got clearly annoyed nobody responded so she loudly asked 'who ordered any chicken?' I said i did with mushroom on the side. She told me the chef made a mistake and that was it. She told me to keep it and she would bring me mushroom sauce out for me. She didn't. When she came to clear plates i told her i finished and didn't need the gravy. She laughed and said ok. This is not acceptable. The service was disgusting, her attitude was foul and the food definitely wasn't worth the $6 increase. We will not return.
Feed Me, Adelaide
So the Ed Castle apparently has the oldest continuous license in Adelaide. It also has a ‘world famous’ $10 lunch menu, including burgers, which we have investigated to some extent here. They also have a front bar, a beer garden, a ‘main room’ and a balcony for functions. These things are all quite fascinating of course (I actually found the stories around the oldest venues etc quite interesting, but google that if you want more info). However they tell you nothing about whether the Ed can deliver on the burger front.

The price is defined right at the Ed Castle. Their $10 menu has a lot of choice which is good for when you need a cheap meal. My favourite thing to order off the cheap menu is the eggplant burger.

I do find their meals are always super salty though. Is that so you buy more drinks? I don't know.

It's a shame they don't have their pizzas available every night. I believe you can only get them on the weekend or you have to sit outside.

I like that there is tomato sauce so you don't have to ask the bar staff for it.

The biggest failure of the Ed Castle is how long it takes to get your meals. On more than one occasion I've waited 30+ minutes for a schnitzel. The other night we waited an hour for a chicken burger. They always seem to be understaffed and slow.
Great 'Beer Pub' with good craft beer selection and generous craft beer specials on a Monday. Food a bit disappointing. I opted for the 'special pie' which was tasty enough but minuscule!! Needed to order second side order of chips after it as there are no deserts. Maybe just bad choice. Would give another chance and try other menu option, or not go when really peckish.

Great place for a pub-meal with loads of $10 specials and great eggplant parmigiana. The atmosphere seems to have died a bit over the last few year but is great on gig nights. The wine list is really good for a pub. Loads of seating in the beer garden.

Very basic pub food but very cheap prices so can see the appeal to uni students. I wouldn't bother returning with so many great places to eat in Adelaide.

Great Atmosphere. We went on Thursday May 21st for the trivia comedy night. Food was great good service and the entertainment was hilarious.

Had Mother's Day lunch here with family of 6 .My husband is from USA so is not used to our pub dining !We we greeted by friendly staff and sat at a nice table.the food took half hour to arrive but they were cooking for 6 of us.but it was worth the wait.we ordered eggplant burgers, chicken schnitzel.chicken kebabs, salt and pepper squid and washed it all down with soft drinks for kids and a bottle of white whine for adults.the food was well presented, delicious, and generous in portions.will return on Tuesday nights for curry night! Yum.

-----10 May, 2015-----

Been waiting half an hour for food to arrive ........

Came to this busy west end pub with a large group tonight. The staff were really attentive and it was a great vibe. I think they were busier than they expected but the staff really nailed it.

Great atmosphere. Best beer garden in the cbd, staff are always nice and the drink specials are pretty sweet. Good for a cheap good quality meal and a Sunday session.

I called in here one rainy winters night after work. It's changed a lot since the '80's! Filled with a mature student crowd, the atmosphere was great. With a scrabble tourny in one corner, a cracking warm fire in another, with loads of cheap counter meal options in between, I passed a very happy few hours in here over a glass or three of red and a first class schnitzel. Service was smiley and efficient, and the beer garden is heated for winter weather. A top city pub.

One of many visits to this great little pub. We go here often. It's always good. Some nights are super busy and when they are the food can be a bit slow but at the prices they charge it's worth the wait. Good range of local beer and wines. The schnitzel is the one of the best in town. I heard a rumour the guys from Amalfi on Frome Street have taken over here. Interesting times ahead for the Ed Castle.

Killer pub burgers. The Ed Castle has changed a bit since my last visit, they have a few different burgers on at the moment. I tried the 'chipotle burger' and it was awesome. I'll be back.

Chicken schitzel with salad & chips. Relaxing night with good pub food, the chicken schitzel looks yummy but too much batter. I will definatly come back if they cover less batter.

Good and cheap counter meals.. Love this place. It's a friendly local with pretty good schnittys and a few pool tables.

Went to the Ed' for lunch after a suggestion from a family member. It was fairly busy but the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome.
The $10 lunch menu is probably the best value in Adelaide and everything we ordered was of high quality, fresh, tasty and served with a smile.
On a price to quality scale this was at least 9/10
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a great value and high quality lunch in a great outdoor setting and we will certainly be going back regularly

I love going here with some friends to relax. Menu is great and the staff are friendly.

Used to come here all the time a few years ago, would not recommend now.
We went as a big group on Sunday day and the staff were pretty dismissive (when you could get one to actually serve you!) they ran out of pale ale before 2pm, then at about 5pm just turned off all the beer/cider taps! Which forced us onto bottled drinks, which they then started to run out of as well.. Pretty disappointing.
Also we had to wait till 6pm for the menu to start (all but one of the day menu items had coriander in them), then they took over 40 minutes to bring out simple foods like a chicken burger (with burned chicken) and parmys..

Really bad service, went there on a quiet Sunday night with hardly any others buying food and waited an hour for our order to be delivered to us. Also got our order wrong. Poor lighting and had to move because the music was too loud- and I'm in my 20s!

Waiting 45min for our order!. My friends and I dined at the Ed last night and service was horrible! The girl serving us got confused when we all ordered separate (although this is the only way you can order) and told us we weren't able to order under the same table number because we all weren't ordering together. We said that would be fine and continued to order within minutes of each other, gathering 3 table numbers in the process. 20min late the two first orders are served, 25min later and still no one else has received their order. Eventually we go up to the waitress who served us and asked what had happened to our meals..she couldn't remember our table numbers so we had to recite them to her. 10min after this the meal of the LAST person to order arrives. We finally got out meals. Luckily the meals were good otherwise we would have complained further (although they probably tasted that good because by that time we were starving to death).

The chicken schnitzel was succulent and perfectly cooked. The schnitzel was of a nice diameter, although it was a little on the thin side.
VegeTARAian Sydney
Most watering holes are generally heavy with meat dishes but The New Ed Castle Hotel is different, with more vegetarian options than your average pub. A short walk from the University of South Australia, the $10 menu is a beacon for students and the bar staff boast that the vegetarian dishes are popular with their budget-conscious crowd.
Parmi Guide
A Cheap, Good quality Parmi in a large (a rarity in the CBD) Beer garden. It’s a combination that is always a Win. The only downfall being that if the sun is shining you’re chances of returning to work (or home) before curfew are about slim to none.
