Absolutely delicious and delighted, your greeted in Japanese and your welcomed to enjoy a great atmosphere and great food.

Lovely staff who were very patient with the table near us who had a LOT of requests. My meal was delicious, great flavour and well cooked. My husband said his food was ok but when he tried mine he had regrets he didn't order the same, stating his was a bit bland. Overall it was really nice and we definitely would go back!

Food was great, decent presentation, but quite pricey. Customer satisfaction is NOT a priority for them. Apparently they don’t accept the entertainment book voucher anymore even though it’s still in the app. Because of that we ended up an extra $20 out of pocket. Maybe it’s not their fault, but it’s definitely not mine, and they made no attempt to rectify the situationist even apologize. We won’t back.

Absolutely amazing. We had tempura veg and the tempura Delux box with lobster tail. Everything was delicious and so fresh. 10/10

The King Fish Don (grilled King Fish, rice and a runny egg) from this place tasted pretty good. Service was very fast, considering the place was busy when I was there.

Superlicious tempura. We had the set for 2 and it comes with rice, miso soup and pickled cucumber each.

Karaage chicken was good. However I was quite disappointed to find a long black hair (definitely not mine) in my steak don dish. Wasn't able to simply request a replacement as I ordered delivery.

Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten, sent me straight into a food coma. The flavours were spot on and the ingredients were very high quality. The price is amazing for the amount of food you get, Recommending this to all my friends! My favourites: karaage chicken over rice, the steak over rice and the salmon. SOOO DELICIOUS 😍

The lobster and seafood deluxe tempura weren’t bad at all, thanks to the fresh ingredients. There is 2 for 1 deal in the Entertainment book so make sure you give it a try if you have got one. However it took nearly 1 hour to get our dishes on a busy Friday night.

I ordered a Steak Don. Food is good, but a little bit expensive based on the food they served. I don’t understand why I still need to pay 1% surcharge on card payments. I am not happy to pay for this 1% at all.

This restaurant served decent tempura, maybe a little pricier compared to other Japanese restaurant. Our only feedback was that the food took forever to be served. At one point, we waited 45 minutes for our food. Understandbly, the restaurant was busy, with only two chefs seen, but it took a little too long for the food to arrive when the restaurant was not crowded as well.

porterhouse beef - the beef slices were not sliced thoroughly.
The korokke - the batter was too hard and thick, the mashed potato was as dry as powder.
Oyakudon - the egg was over cooked, chicken was not fresh and not enough sauce over the top of the bowl.
Tempura - the tempura was ok, especially oyster was good. However the fish smells tooooo fishy.
There’s 1% surcharge on debit or credit card which is ridiculous!
The shop is fully of oily smell in the air, my clothes stink after the meal.

Disappointing. Service was non-existent on the night of my visit. Our group of 5 were not hard to miss in a venue so tiny, yet it took an eternity to flag down staff. I chose Akimitsu for the tempura alone, and figured it must good, as the menu consists predominantly of tempura dishes. Sad to say the batter was too thick and dry. My friend was kind enough to offer a sample of her karaage chicken, which was much better.

When I found out there was an award winning Tempura place opening in Adelaide serving rice bowls my level of excitement was undoubtedly high. Akimitsu may be a chain originating in Tokyo but we soon discovered the quality was not compromised. Not long after opening they expanded their menu to include even more delicious favourites. Needless to say we have visited more than once. The premise located on Hindley Street may not seem large from the outside but the tables turn fast and we’ve never had to wait too long in line so don’t let that put you off.

We ordered Asakusa tendon $19.50 (rice bowl with prawn, oyster, fish and vege), Ebi tempura $19.50 (5 prawns and veges) and a serve of their soba $6.5. Our tempuras came out a bit brown (not burnt but probably reflects the colour of their oil), which we were a bit disappointed. Tempura is all about the batter, right?

A group of 10 went there for dinner last night. Really enjoy ourselves. Staff were very attentive. Food came out quickly and I love my eel rice bowl. I love how their put ginger and seaweed salad on the side. Everyone loves their food too. The place was packed when we left. Will definitely want to come back and try other food!

Cute spot for dining with friends! Came to Akimitsu about a month ago to try the highly acclaimed deep-fried tempura restaurant in Australia. I don't really know why, or how, a restaurant can be famous or a self-acclaimed tempura specialist when it's such a popular dish... But anyways, tempura was great, and so were the donburi bowls, so I ain't complaining 😂

Restaurant is clean with a strong Japanese Ramen shop feel and polite friendly staff.

Ordered the ebi tempura, oyako don and chashu don. The tempura was crispy, delicious and came with plenty of dashi to dip in. Really enjoyed our donburi bowls although i can never finish all the rice.

Things came out quickly during a quiet dinner service without issues and would go back again.

🍽️: Aburi Salmon Don, Asakusa Tendon, Zaru Soba, Agadeshi tofu

👍: Known for their tempura and they do it damn well! Come for deep fried goodness
👎: honey mustard sauce on the aburi salmon isn't my thing, agedashi tofu batter was a bit thick
📝: this place has earned the "King of Tempura Bowl" gold award before

I stopped in for a bowl of noodles and ordered the salmon miso soba. They were happy to exchange the runny egg for a more cooked egg. When it arrived it was smaller than I expected for $15 however, it had good quality salmon in it and, hopefully, the soba noodles were made in house which would account for the serving size / price issue. The staff were really friendly, the service was quick and attentive. I will go back to try their tempura.

The aburi salmon donburi is to die for! I really recommend it. After I had it, I went back again the same week to eat it again. They include a poached egg although the yolk is more softboiled rather than runny the two times I had it. I like the texture though

The karaage donburi is also great, with big juicy pieces of chicken, mayo and a generous serve of pickled ginger and seaweed. I'm looking forward to try some of their other dishes.
The vegetable tempura was nice with perfectly crisp batter. They don't have eggplant tempura included sadly, which is my favourite kind, but I'm interested in the other types of tempura they have.

The fitout is nice looking. Tables are quite close together although there are some booths which are great for date night.

Staff were friendly and very attentive without being pushy, as soon as I had decided what to order they were there. Also easy to flag down. I'll definitely return!

Not impressive about the food and feel greasy. A little pricy but the service needs to improve. We walked in when there was only few customers in but waited for over half hour while other tables even large group got the food before us! No one noticed we have been waiting for a while...

Food was delicious. Service was great. Wish it was a bit cheaper though. Would still come back ocassaionally though for the tempura. Keep it up!

nice Japanese restaurant in the city.
i ordered the steak which was cooked well and had plenty of flavour.
will be back again to try out the tempura (they had lots of various types).

I would say i’m pretty satisfied with the food at Akimitsu. This was the Akimitsu tendon with the assorted fish (salmon), prawn and oyster. The tempura was cripsy on the outside but still juicy and soft on the inside. The oyster did not have an overpowering acidic (copper?) taste which is something i liked. The salmon was pan fried and coated in the batter. The place is known for their tempura so i guess if u’re a tempura lover then you can give place a try.

Located at the centre of Adelaide’s night life hub on Hindley Street is Shitamachi Tendon Akimitsu, a Japanese restaurant specialising in tempura and rice bowls established by award winning chef Akimitsu Tanihara. The venue has a contrast of dark wood and tiled floors with high ceilings and accents of light wood. The Japanese wall paper lining the walls are beautifully vibrant while the paper lanterns give off a soft and gentle glow.

A small Japanese restaurant with a wonderful ambience. We had the chicken karaage don and salmon tendon. The tempura was light, crispy and cooked to perfection. Some of the best Japanese food I have had and the service was wonderful. Still dreaming about that tempura!

What a delightful place.... This small Japanese restaurant opened in Adelaide not long ago... They advertised as one of the best tempura in town and did not disappoint. Soft, flaky and crunchy.... Mmmmm... I'm happy with the tempura... I'd recommend ordering a few side dishes and sharing a tempura platter rather than individual tendons ... Pricing : very reasonable... And great service !
