Review Warong - Adelaide

One of the best Malaysian dishes in town. Definitely must order their Mee Goreng, the flavours and ingredients are super. Definitely satisfies cravings. My wife loved it so much. We ordered the non spicy version, Definitely enjoyed much of it, as not overwhelmed with spice. Maybe you can ask for chilli on the side. I ordered the hainanese chicken rice. Rice is fragrant. The meat was alot. Maybe ask for more chilli or soy sauce as it's not enough for the amount of meat and rice. Both portion were huge, definitely worth your money worth. Saw other people ordered nasi lemak, laksa, nasi goreng, all looks very good. Highly recommend this place.

1st time ordered here, very disappointed and felt insulted. I’m an Indonesian and I found the gado-gado that being served were not even close. If can’t do a close enough recipe of indonesian food, just take down the menu.

I was personally a big fan of this place as it offers good Hallal food. My last visit was a nightmare though. I went there and I was received by a young lady. I asked her that do you offer anything with lamb and the reply was 'No'. I asked for beef but then finally opted for Fish Ball Noodle Soup. I categorically told the young lady that I don't take chicken for religious reasons. Anyways...I got my meal and the lady did not bother giving me any sauces or anything else. I asked for everything. As I started eating I realized there were chunks of chicken in my meal. I instantly went to the lady and told her that you had served me chicken. First she said I will pay you back. She went back in the kitchen, according to her she spoke to her manager and came back and said that we can't do anything. We cannot reimburse you or replace your meal. Not even an apology. I asked her to show me hallal certification and she didn't show me. Plain disrespect. I have pictures of each and everything. The lady said you have eaten completely so we can't reimburse. Had it been the case that she had said 'we are sorry' it would have been great. It was heartbreaking because this was a Hallal restaurant where I had one of the worst experiences. To add I even had to ask her several times to give me receipt. Before leaving the lady told me that the owner would call but I haven't heard from anyone. Disrespectful totally!

They served rendang like this? Very disappointed! They dont know about definition of this cuisine. This look like indian curry not rendang. I will never eat here again!

Been having a craving for beef rendang for sometime and this place hit the mark. I also had a honey green tea which while quite sweet was very good accompaniment to the curry. The beef was extremely tender and the sauce mild with a beautiful aftertaste, very manageable portion. Thoroughly enjoyed, I will go back in the future.

We frequent Warong at Marion and every single time it is absolutely amazing! The food is just outstanding! Excellent staff too. It is just perfect. We can't get enough of the Seafood Nasi Goreng and the Chicken Noodle Soup ☺☺ Love this place!

I would go to this place once a week to get Nasi Goreng (Chicken). Yesterday 22/4 I ordered a chicken Nasi Goreng spicy without Sambel takeaway. Got it home to eat and was very disappointed. There was no chicken just sliced fish cakes and could not take it back as it was after 9.00pm. So ate it but was upset that inspite of paying $14.00 I got noodles with about 3 fish cakes slices and an egg. It's highway robbery and when I went in to complain on Saturday 23/4 nothing was acknowledged just given a business card with an email address and asked to send an email of my complaint. Perhaps he is not familiar with the English language nevertheless I am not going to that place ever again. Aside from the food not being up to par the customer service is below the expected level.

Very disappointed. They can't even differentiate between mee and Maggie. Then what's the point of putting the food on the list. Won't be back anymore.

What a fantastic place for laksa. In the lower ground floor of the Rundle Place building. Staff were so polite and efficient. Seafood laksa was a huge serve full of flavours and all the things you would expect in a seafood laksa. A great place for lunch while shopping around Rundle Mall.

Absolutely in love with their satay sauce, and you have to try it with the beef rib ...delicious!!
I want to try more food here to see if anything else is as good so I’ll be back to the Rundle Place food court for this one.

I saw many people’s food came in a huge portion, therefore I chose food from their combo menu with only $8.5 for 1 choice of side dish with rice or noodle. I had noodle with beef rendang. They also gave a veggie fritter. It turned out that the noddle was overcooked and too oily for me. I could see much oil on the food container. Whereas the beef rendang was tender and cooked well. The veggie fritter was also too oily so that my throat felt uncomfortable after I ate it. However, my friend told me their kwe tiaw was delicious. I am not really sure if I will come and taste another food here.

Wish I had read the reviews, very disappointed with the laska and the chicken rice was...well equally disappointing. The place is so busy but this was one place where busy does not mean good food, its the opposite. I guess the high demand got to them and they couldn't keep up with the quality. What a waste of my precious money, and yes $19 is too much for this food. The Laska soup had no coconut flavour and thin consistency not the thick luscious rich gravy that makes you wanting more. Its suppose to be comfort food... its was not comforting! It was uncomforting eventhough that is not a word, that's how it felt. I've had better laska in dodgy looking places. The chicken pieces looked liked they were butched up by one hand tough chunky different sizes like cutoff with joint bone. 3 piece of thin fish cake, 2 dried tofu that tastes like chemicals frozen fried in weird oil. A taste I do not want anyone else to taste. The chicken rice had nothing to really talk about, really nothing but bits of chicken and rice and I wonder if they put msg? And I really wish they would stop with the mountain loads of beans sprouts on everything, just because its cheap.... oh i give up! People do yourself a favour and just walk across to the David Jones foodcourt and tell me its better. I shall be doing the same next time. Maybe with less crowd the food quality might improve.

One of the best Asian eateries in the rundlemall.
I ordered for nasi goreng which was very tasty and also had generous portion.
Food is fresh and flavoursome and cheap.
It made me remember those asian eateries in singapore airport.
WARNING DECEITFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. Warong is selling its seafood/combination laksa soup, which, given the name, should be either a combination of seafood, or seafood plus other related ingredients, as a plain chicken laksa (much cheaper to prepare) with just a tiny part of seafood. We showed the guy at the register and clearly told him that we had ordered seafood, and he and another attendant kept insisting that because it said "combination" it was allowed to be, well, 90% plain chicken soup. As you can see from the picture, NEARLY NO SEAFOOD, and the staff wouldn't want to change the dish or admit there was a mistake. VERY DISAPPOINTED as they're obviously trying to take people for a ride. We're definitely not going back there.

Located on the corner of a food court, Warong provides south-east Asian street food at an affordable price. The menu has lots of variety for each dish, allowing you to precisely choose what food you want to enjoy. In particular the satay chicken was very tasty, and while it lacked the creaminess alot of restaurants have with satay, the spices and peanut based sauce was much more rich and better in my opinion. The fried rice is also a great way if you're feeling hungry without regard for a balanced meal. The noodles are also very nice, and offer lots of flavours in a single bowl. I would recommend for the university student or worker, but would suggest it to other people to try at least once!

Probably one of the better lunchtime food court eateries out there. My go to if I'm looking for something filling yet delicious but inexpensive.
Must try the beef ribs and the nasi goreng with extra sambal.

Just your average Malaysian/Indonesian food takeout from the food court. The food is inexpensive and tasty, but it's just a place you go to get food during your lunch/uni break or to get a quick feed to satisfy your Asian palette so there's nothing quite special about it.

UPDATE: Last time I wrote a review, I realised I may have compared Warong too much with restaurant standards. Looking at things now, I have been back time and time again, and sure the food isn't up there, but it's still decent and tasty in my opinion. You mustn't hold takeaway chains like this at such a high level, nor should you have high expectations that they will deliver the most authentic dishes. Warong is a place that has earned a spot in my good books for its quick, non-fussy, cheap, and tasty dishes, whether or not people think otherwise.

Rundle Place has become a little shopping precinct within the Rundle Mall strip. There are a number of shops that sell clothes, homewares, furniture, and even provide with services where you can get pampered and/or groom yourself. Thus, it only makes sense that a shopping mall like this have a food court where busy (and tired) shoppers can go and get a quick and easy meal that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

We tried 3 places in Adelaide for the chicken rice - this is the only store which serves you an authentic rice that is cooked using chicken soup with garlic and ginger. The other 2 served you with plain rice. Good size serving and the best of the 3 at the cheapest price ;) and comes with a nice chilli sauce. Also try the laksa noodles - nice and tasty with extra sambal as I like my laksa more spicy.

Ordered warong Kuay Teow. Amazing flavour. Not oily compared to traditional ones. Highly recommended! Would rate this the best shop in the mall

very tasty beef nasi lemak, really good flavours - the laksa is a bit sweet but also good. service is prompt for a quick lunch in the city and price is reasonable
The Munchkin
The beef short rib and rice is one of their best dishes. The meat is tender and drops off the bone. Have also tried the ayam penyet which is not too bad.

I think this place is great. I really only get one dish the beef rib with rice and I add a fried egg. Tender flavoursome meat with mildly spicy peanut sauce. I'm not Malaysian so I can't speak to the authenticity but to me it taste real good. My friend tells me their laksa is not bad either. It's cheap and so really great value for money. In Uni I used to call it the best meal under $10 (it's now since increased slightly in price). Also, I have always had good service here throughout the years and will keep coming back for that beef rib!

Bad service. I ordered the beef ribs and surprisingly it had peanut sauce on it (there was no mention of peanuts or satay sauce on the item). I'm allergic to peanuts so I asked for a replacement but they said it was MY FAULT for NOT ASKING if it had peanuts on it. On BEEF RIBS. I don't go to hogs breath and ask if they have peanuts on their ribs, just like I don't ask about peanuts when I get a beef burger from MacDonalds, because it's not a common addition. to assume that I should ask if every single dish has peanuts is pretty ridiculous.

Extremely disappointed. Being a Malaysian, I was disappointed by the food and service. On top of the Inauthentic Malaysian food, staff was rude customers which reflects badly on the warm and accommodating Malaysian Hospitality. More superior Malaysian eateries in Rundle mall.

Great food great service. Food is reasonably priced and yummy!
I'm a regular customer there and have tried several dishes. The food there are delicious and never fail to satisfy my Asian food Cravings.
Service staff are keen to help and always happy to serve you.
Price is average and serving size are relatively huge (I can only manage 3/4 of the portion of my food there most of the time).
Best of all, it's situated in the middle of rundle mall, so when you're hungry halfway while shopping or in the city, it's always convenient to pop by there for lunch.

Great food, good sizes. We walk into town regularly to eat here, we have tried a few different options and although some things weren't to our taste the food was still nice and the serve sides are great. The satay sticks are always cooked to perfection, taste great and the sauce is very flavoursome. The kway teow is also a favourite of ours. All in all it's a good spot for lunch, much better quality than the average food court meal as most items are cooked while you wait. Good prices and good size meals.

Tasty Nasi Goreng. We visited Warong on a busy Sunday shopping day after Xmas. Staff were very busy, but polite and calm. SErvice was quite quick, even tho there were many diners queued up, a mixture of Asian faces and “others”. When we asked, several other diners were enthusiastic about the quality & price of their servings. There is an extensive menu, with many dishes ready to go. We shared 1 x Nasi Goreng ( $9.80) as a a reconnaissance on our first visit, and it proved to be a substantial snack. The seating area was somewhat crowded, and the cleaners seemed to be overwhelmed clearing away the used plates, but it was post Xmas sales time. I look forward to a return to Warong. 8/10.

Not quite authentic. Came here with high expectations following several recommendations that the food closely resembles Malaysian/Indonesian cuisine. Tried the char kway teow (spicy) but was disappointed with the taste. It could be that they used the same sambal to create the extra spice, and I found the sambal too much on the sweet side. Nanyang's CKT is still the best for me. However, I was impressed with their generous serving portions at a reasonable price.

Warong is one of the new Asian specialty food outlets that has opened in the food court in Rundle Place. The store offers your usual Asian dishes and finger food. The presentation of the dishes is a bit unique as meals are served in small baskets on top of waxed paper.
On Sunday, we thought we would try out the new Rundle Place for lunch, food court on lower ground was our only choice. It was called food court 77 and Warong was located on the right side if you were coming down the stairs from the main entrance of Rundle Place. All staff there were so friendly, especially the guy who was standing infront of the register, he was always smiling, gladly introduce all the dishes available, very polite.
