Review The Original Pancake Kitchen - Adelaide

Nate Gil Barshad
Went in for brunch. The hash browns, sausages and waffles 🧇 are nice. The surrounding is a bit noisy as there were a large group of peeps have family time. This is everyone’s freedom but still noisy. The tableware 🍮tray on the tables are empty. In addition, I am not really a big fan of the ice cream in the ice coffee, too rich to go with the coffee. Would give a 3/5. But just learn that they open 24 hours everyday. I would give them an extra star.

With such a large menu I think they’ve bitten off more than they can chew. So so many of the items on the menu were unavailable - personally I had to go to my FIFTH option. Other members of our group also had to choose again (not even the same meals as me). Half our group received their meal and were finished before the second half received their food. Some items never turned up (we were refunded for these). The 2 people at the table next to us ordered just after us and still hadn’t received a single dish by the time we left. One person asked for a steak cooked medium - the photo is after it had already been taken back and once to be recooked and yet still came back bloody. Don’t offer steaks if you can’t cook them. I specified allergies and my meal still included those allergens (even after having confirmed with staff that it was doable without). In a group of 8 only 2 people received the correct order with nothing missing or wrong. Not a good enough %. Staff were rude and service was slow. there were so many problems that should not have happened in the first place and made the experience unpleasant for the whole group.

The waffles are the best (sorry I didn’t even try their pancakes)! My friend who is 73yos told me that she went to there when she was a teenager. It should be soooo good to operating for so many years. I am on a diet and tried to lose weight but these waffles are just tasty and no burden on my calories sheet.

This is the best 24 x 7 place to be in Adelaide when you're hungry and want some comfort food. The German feast is amazing, the coffee is good and when you're feeling that sweet tooth, try the Russian Blintz with ice cream. This was my go to place since the uni days and has never disappointed me. However, it is next to Hindley Street and gets a bit shady on weekend nights sometimes.

Adelaide's original 24hr Pancake Kitchen. It's been years since I last visited. Seems to have had a little revamp. Nice cosy little tables throughout. I had the strawberry nutella crepes. Generous serve.

Had an okay experience. Ordered the farmers feast for breakfast and a coffee. The order total came to a little more than I was expecting, but I put this down to the weekend surcharge. Service was fine and the portion size was good for the price that you pay.

Had a really good experience the other day. I was going to go for the ribs but because we had limited time I got the chicken ceased salad
and BOY WAS I SURPRISED. It was delicious, it was a generous serving and it was perfectly balanced as all things should be. My wife had an IT which I sampled and that was also great.

Adelaide icon. Was a great place to celebrate the Powers win and keep warm and out of the rain. ~300g of wings, iced chocolate and the banana split pancake were more than enough food and very tasty.

Customer service was terrible. Staff were rude. Overpriced for what you get. Food came out cold, portion was small. They somehow managed to<br/>mess up the eggs... Like is that even possible?! The cleanliness of this restaurant was absolutely non-existent. The table was dirty when we were seated after ten minutes of standing at the front register. It wasn’t even busy. Once given our food, the cutlery still had old food stuck on it. DISGUSTING. Never coming back, obviously. Actively promoting avoiding The Pancake Kitchen (at least in the city). Sorry for the Karen energy!! đŸ€ȘđŸ€Ș xx

Really wide variety of choices and the interior decor is so cute, provides great atmosphere for a fun outing and the servers are always super friendly.

The food is not fresh and I got sick after eating here

Pancake Kitchen Modbury - Woeful service, rude staff and disgusting food. Waited 50 Mins for a meal for 1 person and ended up having to take away. The meal was pure filth. I threw it out as the 2 mouthfuls make me feel ill. Its a joke don't bother.
Adventures Around Adelaide
A long time favourite many items on the menu along with the old fashioned mirrored slogans remind me of my own childhood. I took my daughter here and she loves the tweedle dee lemon crepes although now she is more likely to devour the Jubilee as prefers a more indulgent dish

What’s cooking good looking foodies!<br/>We went to this 24 hours pancake restaurant, can you see how lovely and fresh their foodđŸ„°<br/><br/>Since then we now make brekkie at home with pancakes instead of toast🍞 <br/>Tag someone who need pancake ASAP!!!<br/>#literallyondiet

From a food perspective, was reasonably good. The restaurant has been here since 1965 which is really great to see in Adelaide. Our only downfall was the shop outfit and general cleanliness. Not very desirable and really brought the place down.

This is a 24 hour spot, hence our sweet teeth got us here at midnight. An old spot and wasn't spot clean, especially with an old carpeted floor.<br/>Got a waffles with walnuts and cream and an Irish coffee. The waffle was soft and richly topped with cream, walnuts and maple syrup. The Irish coffee wasn't the best idea even for my girlfriend who found it hard finish due to the strong Irish whisky.<br/>

Went here with the hubby and the kids for a Sunday brunch and absolutely loved it!<br/>I have the German breakfast- which was awesome!<br/>Loved the kransky.<br/>The hubby had the double eggs Benedict- which he always has.<br/>The older kid had the stock mans breakfast which was another hit and the youngest one had Alice surprise from the kids menu.<br/>Al in all a lovely and hearty brunch.<br/>The prices could be a bit less but no compromise on the fluffy pancakes💖

My partners favorite pancake restaurant which reminds her of growing up and coming here with friends. Pancakes with strawberries and cream great tasting strawberry pure with sweet strawberries. I had the bacon and beef burger with grilled peppers and onion full of flavor with wht appears to be home made thick chips on the side. Great value will be back

The food that doesn't involve pancakes is good at best. Everyone raves on other sites about the pancakes. I think they're onto something.<br/><br/>However I didn't give them a 5 for their food. There was a little old guy sitting at a table adjacent to mine. Dressed up nicely in slacks and a jacket, he sat down with his daily paper by himself. The staff were so nice to him. They came up and asked what he would be ordering today, then followed that up with "would you like your cup of tea and a coke to drink?" He must be a regular, but the way it was said was just in pure kindness.<br/><br/>As I sit here finishing my chips, seeing him enjoy his burger and enjoying his life, it feels good. Good to know that you still can get treated nice and with respect! Here's to the staff! đŸ»đŸ»

We waited over an hour for our food and it never came. How long does it take to cook pancakes? We asked them how much longer it would take, and asked to get our food take away. Then a few minutes later they came back and asked if we wanted to cancel our order! Seriously?! We had to leave to go to an important event, so we left hungry and disappointed. Don’t waste your time going here. Terrible service and overpriced. So many better options in Adelaide city centre.
Salmonandeggs
Poor customer service - I had to wait for approximately 30 minutes before I was able to order. Waited another 45 minutes for my food to arrive. While waiting, many other customers also left angrily, reprimanding the staffs on the way out. The store structure and customer service is atrocious, would never come back again
Wombatinabox
LOVELY!<br/>It was busy early on Saturday night but we waited less than a minute for a table.<br/>It takes a long time to choose a meal as so many options sound tempting.<br/>She absolutely loved the cottage fried potatoes. Cooked to delicious crispy perfection.<br/>He had a breakky-style Farmer's Feast & polished it off...with a pint of beer.<br/>I had Crepe Scott (single to save room for later) & enjoyed it although the salad was a bit skimpy.<br/>Then she & I shared 'It' - two pancakes with buttered walnuts, caramelised banana slices (sparse), banana sauce & cream plus ice cream. Then we poured maple syrup liberally over it. So sweet.
Master Diner
Yeah nah! This place clearly has a problem with the timing of food service. Front of house staff are doing their best navigating around the restaurant with hungry clients still waiting for food. Never again. Management and kitchen staff need to sort this out.
Steven Collins
Short staffed, extremely noisy - gave up waiting, cancelled order. Won't be back any year soon. :(<br/><br/>Impressive menu though, lots of choices. Oh well...
Caries Today
After hours of indecision about what to eat on a week night and realising that it was too late to visit any other restaurants, we headed into the famous 24-hour Pancake Kitchen.<br/><br/>Upon entering, the mood was instantly set. It was just like an American diner that you see in the movies. The walls were interestingly covered by signs about not complaining, but also adorned with pancake related cartoons and comic strips.<br/><br/>The menu was extensive, and we chose the chilli con carne, Buffalo wings, and of course, the German feast with pancakes.<br/><br/>The wings were a little funny, with a sour sweet chilli sauce. The chilli con carne, however, was a little disappointing - there was a disproportionate amount of chips to chilli to sour cream. On top of that, the corn chips paired with very cold sour cream and lukewarm chilli resulted in an odd mouth sensation where the elements didn’t seem to work well with each other.<br/><br/>On the other hand, the German feast came with two light and fluffy pancakes, a tasty German sausage, two sunny-side up eggs and some fried bacon. To top that off, the pancakes came with the signature whipped butter (some of the most light, creamy and indulgent butter ever). Sitting on the table was a cute jar of liquid gold - delicious pancake syrup. Pouring that over the pancakes and watching the drizzle glisten and melt into the butter, then slicing into the pancake and delivering a mouthful is the most heavenly and hedonistic experience you could have late on a weeknight.<br/><br/>Overall, aside from the pancakes, the food isn’t stellar (as is to be expected from a place named ‘The Original Pancake Kitchen’)! However, it is an experience not to be missed, and we’d definitely return just for another taste of those delicious pancakes!

Always reliable for a great feed after a big night in town or just in general. Pretty decent price and services is good. Can get pretty crowded but thats a given.
The Miniature Life
Great service, cool ambience, foods pretty good too. Anyone from Sydney kind of similar to pancakes on the rocks. Portion size is generous and it's open on a Sunday! Ordered the vegetarian pancakes, only suggestion would be to add a little more kick to it, nothing some hot sauce can't fix though.

One of those places many have been, especially in the late hours of the day since it is open all the time. Haven’t been for a while, but something I would recommend to go to at least once

Love the food here but the wait is insanely long. Been waiting over 45 mins and it's not even that busy. They served one person at our table with their order but others have been waiting for an additional 20 mins.<br/>Really needs a complete overhall in the way they do orders. Disappointing

Beloved for more than 50 years by school groups, church youth groups and Nannas in town with the Grandchildren this place has been serving up Pancake stacks seemingly since Adam was in nappies. <br/><br/>We were there because it was after midnight on a Saturday night and we needed somewhere to wait while other family members went to a Fringe Show.<br/><br/>Walking through the door is a bit like stepping into a time machine. Lots of wood panelling, hand painted signs, pub mirrors.<br/><br/>The menu has changed in that they recently added Burgers, but a lot of old favourites are still there. Go on. Name another Adelaide restaurant still doing ham steak and grilled pineapple. <br/><br/>I was surprised to hear people being asked if they'd made a booking. Back in the day you just rolled up to the door with 25 of your closest friends and strolled in.<br/><br/>No-one had made a booking, it needs be said.<br/><br/>The service was friendly and prompt the pancakes were fluffy, you still got a jug of syrup to pour over the whipped butter and the shakes were thick.<br/><br/>By 1:30, when we left, the place was still jumping and to be honest, even if it wasn't fine dining, at that hour of the night you could do worse.<br/>

I always looked forward to the best pancakes in town at 'The Pancake Kitchen' was so disappointed today. It must have new owners and cook, it now needs to be called 'Flat Jacks' The stack is gone they now look more like McDonalds hot cakes. They're small, very thin and under cooked. Even the lovely big mug of coffee has gone now it's just a cup. This place was such an icon and now just lost. What a shame :(

I'm very disappointed with the Original Pancake Kitchen, both food and service.<br/>The staff was not attentive, busy or not busy.<br/><br/>The food was even worse, we waited for almost 45 minutes, had to ask the staff to check where the order was, and when the food was served, it was cold. Someone obviously forgot about them.<br/>The pancake was small and thin, lack of fluffiness.<br/>I only received half tomato on my plate, and they tortured it!!!! Come on, have some respect to the food!!!!<br/>Two small eggs on the plate, and again, they killed it. the cooked side was so rubbery it was almost inedible!!!!<br/><br/>I have been to the Pancakes at the Port many many times, and compare to their pancakes, the original pancakes can closes their business, it is AWFUL!!!!!<br/><br/>Never again!

Ok, so we went on New Year’s Day and they were busy but we waited 40 minutes for 2 coffees and an hour for food that never came. After that we left. Terrible service. Kitchen is far to small to cope with the size of the dining rooms when they are busy. No warning that there would be a long wait either or any apology for the non-existent food. We will not be going back here again .

I'm over the Pancake Kitchen. I didn't go back for over a year because of ridiculous credit card charges but I went back to give this place the benefit of the doubt. Worse choice ever. Cold food, "mild" sauces that are clearly extremely hot. Black, bruised bananas, drinks that are water downed and taste horrible & crunchy stale tasting crepes. They offer no compensation & they charge ridiculous prices. Avoid!

We came here for Breakfast/Brunch as we needed to be in the area this morning.  I am so glad we made a booking as there were people waiting for other people to finish so they could jump into there tables.  We ordered the Canadian and German Breakfast consisting of eggs bacon tomato and Pancakes and a Sausage with the German Breakfast.  The menu stipulates Fried Eggs with each of these meals but we asked and was pleasantly surprised when it was no trouble to change them from Fried to Poached (and they were very nicely done when we got them).  The service was hit and miss, with some tables getting their orders taken quickly and water and cutlery brought quickly to the table and others including us having to either wait or like us ask if we could order.  Once we ordered the drinks came out fairly quickly.  We both ordered a Hot Chocolate and strangely each one was different with my dining partners being very sweet with marshmallows and  mine being not so sweet and no marshmallows.  However as it was starting to rain outside and a little chilly we downed them in no time.  I also ordered a Banana Shake to share which although was a little sweet we both enjoyed.  Our meals finally came out but we did have to ask for cutlery to be brought to the table. We both ate heartily as we were hungry and still left a little on the plate when we were so full we couldn't eat any more.  The venue is a little dated but quaint as it has been here forever and the place is a lot bigger than it looks with lots of little rooms. However, there is only 1 male. 1 Female and 1 Disabled toilet so several women used the disabled toilets when it was vacant. There is a good range on the menu to choose from.  And as we glanced at the tables around us each of the meals looked good and were of a good size.  The table of 5 next to us ordered quite a variety and with specific requests and each meal arrived just as ordered.  We are planning a return visit soon and will try a meal rather than pancakes next time.  So will keep you posted as to how that visit goes.

The Original Pancake Kitchen greets you with a really disgusting food smell. The place is really stuffy and very smelly. We were put off by the smell even before we ordered the food. <br/><br/>Got the chocolate and caramel waffles and the strawberry smoothie. The waffle was too sweet and not worth the money. <br/><br/>The strawberry smoothie took way too long and the staff needed to be reminded about it about 15 mins after the order was placed. <br/><br/>Overall, my experience at the Original Pancake Kitchen was pretty terrible. The smell, the food and the service were all awful.
Michael Dewett
For such a well loved and popular location in our city, the food is really quite mediocre. The pancakes are thick and feel very dough-like, and they're more likely to end up mushy and wet before you get through a whole stack. The hot savory foods are quite a saving grace, most of my experiences have been good. The staff is also among some of the friendliest you can find.
BrianVogt18
24 hour service, great food, friendly staff. While it's been the case that the service has been slow, they've never made a mistake with my order and the food arrives cooked to perfection every time.

I have had mixed experiences at the pancake kitchen. At times the staff were very friendly and our food came out quick and was yum but then we have been when the staff were rude, were very unhelpful and our food was quite average. I feel the original pancake kitchen has potential to be a lot better if they review a few of the things that are letting them down.

Worst meal of my life. It says here I need 140  characters............... this place was sooooooooooooo bad, I just can't write that much......................................................................................................

This is a place to create happy memories. The best thing is it's open 24/7 right in the CBD. There are so many options to choose from. The only downside is their pancakes are a little pricey.

Awesome! First time I've been here and it was amazing! There was a bit of a wait, but that's to be expected around brunch time. The staff was friendly and we got a nice table in one of their many dinning areas. I have never had ice cream on pancakes before and I was curious to taste this Aussie standard. It did not disappoint! I had the Strawberries. The butteemilk pancacjes were better than IHOP! They were just the right amount of sweetness with a yummy scoop of vanilla ice cream. The apple juice was delicious as well! Will definitely go back!

Visiting from interstate. The coffee was very weak so staff kindly offered to bring me a new one as the first one was undrinkable. <br/><br/>I ordered the Canadian breakfast, gluten free. The food was hot and fresh. The tomato, however, was hard and barely cooked and appeared to be the offcuts of the tomato. I couldn't eat that. <br/><br/>We ordered cottage potatoes with sour cream on the side. The sour cream was smothered with sweet chilli sauce. They were on the side but not separated themselves. I was unable to only have the sour cream if I wanted. My partner was unable to have the sweet chilli on its own if he wanted. <br/><br/>My partner's Caesar salad- the chicken was dry and over cooked. It was unfortunate as the actual pancakes were great!

I came to this place with a friend for lunch since I was craving pancakes. I'm not a local since I live interstate but I always knew this place existed when I was living in Adelaide for so many years, I never had the chance to try it. But finally had the chance to do it now. Upon discovering this place, it's nicely hidden and secluded in a lane which is hard to find at first, but looking at the large sign when walking down the lane you know you have arrived at your destination.<br/><br/>I ordered buttered walnuts with 4 stacks of pancakes and my friend went with the Russian Blintz. The waitress was kind enough to tell us that the Russian Blintz doesn't come in stacks and it only comes with crepes. It was fine with my friend. Also the waitress asked if we would like a scoop of ice cream on top our dishes, we were like hell yes, haha!<br/><br/>My pancakes tasted delicious, the buttered walnuts on top of it was nothing so extraordinary. But it tasted good, next time I'll try a more robust flavour for the toppings on the pancakes. I just put heaps of maple syrup on top of my pancakes which made no difference to the flavour of the buttered walnuts on top of it. But the pancakes tasted delicious, very fresh and ice cream went really well with it. My friend loved his crepes as well along with the blueberries and cream cheese with it. Overall we both were satisfied with our choice of pancakes. But I felt the ice cream could be better since it tasted like it supermarket ice cream. Also a small jug of maple syrup comes along with your order of pancakes. <br/><br/>Overall, a great place to have pancakes with family n friends. It's open 24 hrs and the rate for each item is fair decent so nothing to complain about. I'll definitely come back here again when I'm in town next time.<br/><br/>
RLM
Waited 15 mins to get served. At 4 0 mins we are still waiting for the food. Coffee is barely warm and very weak. There are four other tables where we are most with only two people.<br/><br/>No one has come back to any of the other tables and no one in the room has received any food.<br/>
Ned Saison
The pancake kitchen is the best place for pancakes the city. There is an assortment of food associated to breakfast and they are often served in decent portions; enough to fill your stomach. The staff are friendly and will approach you if you looked troubled or can't decide. Although its a bit dark in there, its warm and cosy feeling will make you right at home
_foodiej
Cozy, warm and homely.<br/><br/>If you just want to go somewhere for breakfast or can't toss between sweet or savoury, then just come on down to the Original Pancake Kitchen. I read somewhere that this is one of Adelaide's oldest restaurants as it has been running for 50 years.<br/><br/>The pancakes are so fluffy and the toppings are really generous! There is a range of pancakes you can choose from and it doesn't matter what you get because the pancakes go so well with everything. It's only $13+ as well so the menu is pretty friendly when it comes to handling cheap prices for delicious pancakes.
Lee
I've heard bad reviews from other people over the years, but it's quite nice here (I have only been once though). I love the many options of pancakes and that there's savoury meals too. The food is ordinary yet still enjoy full, would suggest the Jamaican Banana.
Shehan Irundika
Best pancakes ever so far I have had.. and the stake was amazing.. such a good main with a delicious dessert.. and with a VB on the side.. amazing customer service. And will visit again for sure.. it's Open 24*7..

24 hour pancake shop! How could anyone resist?? Came to this place after long journey from tassie. Large portion of food and excellent supper. Had the bacon and sausage one which was excellent! Overall generous portion and tasty. Will be back especially for that late night pancake craving.
Kym Le
The food is very ordinary and the place is a little cramped. I've been here a few times but I haven't been back since 2012 as there are better dessert places with more variety in menu items and sweets
Le Truc Ly
Boring food. Nothing can be called house specials as everything are pretty much ordinary stuff from the grocery being recooked. Macdonalds pancake has more flavors and textures. And what is with the 50cent surcharges for eftpost for all purchases? Paid 50 dollars for mediocre pancakes, reheated ham, poorly done fried eggs, and a piece of smallest pineapple slice i have seen in my life and they wanted 50cent extra for eftpost payment?
Tyler Finch
By far the most deplorable restaurant I have ever been too, disgusting customer service! <br/>The only people that would give this place a positive review are those under a drunken illusion.
Tayla Bova
Not impressed, worst service ever! <br/>Entering the establishment we were confronted by a worker named NATHAN. Eventually he was ready to serve us, he asked if we were ready to order however we said we were still browsing the menu. Nathan proceed to respond very rudely, 'obviously wrong people to ask'. Disgraceful customer service, useless as usual.<br/><br/>Pull up your socks!<br/>
Thai Kenny
Came in and still looking at menu, was asked if I was ready to take the order, I said not yet thank you. Got a reply of wrong person to ask then.. Worst service ever...

I always wanted to come and have pancakes at this place. A modest cosy restaurant off the crazy Hindley street.. Well I am completely satisfied for a great morning breakfast.. My love for eggs Benedict.. Got me having the pancake with the same. Great taste and perfect portioning.. Topped it off with a nice double shot chai latte which is made just to perfection.. 14 dollars for the whole meal and drink..not bad at all.. Will be back..

Fantastic. An old fave. I came here with my grandparents in 1976 and today I tested my three kids. Friendly quick service, crispy hash browns, lean shortcut bacon, and of course the obligatory fluffy pancakes and whipped butter and maple syrup.<br/>It's in a back alley way, it's a rambling tired old building just off Adelaide's slightly seedy Hi Daley Street. It's well worn and comfy. Booth sweating covered in red vinyl. It's like stepping back in time.<br/>Good value for money.
Jewel Eats
This is an Adelaide institution, especially for the late night supper crowd. The restaurant is decorated in nostalgia, and it does bring me many great past memories of late dining. The pancakes are wonderful and they have some savoury dishes too.
HoneyBintheCity
What Adelaidian can say they haven't been here at least once please?! Whether it's after a night of drinking, a day at a festival, the perfect next day hangover cure, a midnight feast, a sweet tooth catch up, or my fave Brinner!!! U can come here literally anytime coz its 24/7! 😀 And the Canadian Feast has 2be my fave- YeP! 👌

It's hit and miss. Sometimes I would give it 4 stars and other times 1. Lets face it, it's Greens Pancake mix how good can it be? They don't even try and hide this fact because the boxes are often on display when you go up and order.Sometimes the food is good, sometimes the eggs are almost raw. Sometimes I have a hair in my food (has happened three separate visits) and sometimes I don't. Sometimes the waiters are rude and sometimes they are great. Sometimes they will take your order at your table and other times they make you get up and order yourself. But this could be the lowest rated establishment on the internet and it wouldn't matter because its open 24/7. Great hang over place, always available to the severely intoxicated. Sometimes you're too drunk to care.
But I'm Hungry Now
I decided to tackle the German feast for lunch one day. Within ten minutes of ordering, I was served warm fluffy pancakes with a German Kranski, a fried egg, bacon and grilled tomato. I then topped it off with a generous drizzle of maple syrup. This is great comfort food on a cold day. I've been there a couple of times before and have always experienced friendly service and a good meal (though I've never dared to venture there at an odd hour). Yes, the premises may seem a bit well-worn, but there's also something comforting and familiar about this place (probably because it's been around for so long).
Sahar&Aurelio
The perfect place to go on a drunkin night after town! many different pancake combos and flavors to choose from. I had the Russian Blintz cream cheese one which was extremely satisfying and I still have cravings for it now!! great prices- good to go when sober too!
Matt Reiner
Always the German Feast.
Saintz1111
WORST EVER RESTAURANT EVER!!!!. The spaghetti bolognaise was the absolute worst, flavorless, soggy pasta dog food I have literally ever had in my ENTIRE life! The Cajun chicken salad took 10 extra minutes to arrive after the pasta was served, It came out looking like some home BBQ slop that some armature had desperately tried to master, The potatoes were not even cooked! I had one bite and demanded my money back! The chef stood next to me trying to find a flaw in his meal (was he blind?) he found a raw potato and refunded our money without even an apology! I urge everyone to never go here unless you are blind paro drunk looking for 24hr meals down hindley street! And even then Dont Go THere!
Darrylgriffiths632
Poor service. We arrived at 8.15pm and after waiting 40 min for service, waitress looking at our table 3 times and ignoring us we (a table of 6) got up and left. Not worth the visit and after being a regular visitor it's now off the list.
Facebook User
Terrible trap. If you're heading here then youre heading for collateral disappointment. Came in expecting some half decent service. Took 10 minutes before they took our order. Literally took 40 minutes to bring our food. Cajun chicken came out with 3 pieces of overcooked chicken with 55 pieces of potato. Pancakes were raw. Asked for part of my money back.
Thistlethyme
So-so. My mother ate one of the big breakfast type meals, which came with fluffy pancakes and was quite good.<br/><br/>I, however, chose the special - Nutella banana crepes. It was a bit cold when it came out to me and while the crepe itself was good, the Nutella definitely wasn't pure Nutella (it was either Nutella cut with a lot of butter, or just very buttery chocolate sauce) so that was very disappointing.<br/><br/>I'd go there again for just a stack of fluffy pancakes or for one of the big breakfasts but would probably avoid the chocolate/sweet ones.
Tommy Mac
What you see is what you get. You cant expect much for somewhere thats 24 hour. But for what it is, its ok.
Joshua Silvi
I went here today with my partner. I enjoyed the Bannana Crepes with Nutella and Ice Cream. However, we ordered a latte and a caramel milkshake with our desert and didnt recieve them after we finished our meal. It took almost 30mins from when we ordered till when we recieved our drinks.
April
Ok.. What you see if what you get. For a place that's open 24 hours in an alley, there should be no delusion. I expected it to be similar to Pancakes on the Rocks but it was a its poor cousin. Everything was average. The prepaying part was a surprise but at least they bring it to the table. The staff were friendly enough and when we were there, there was a mix crowd of school girls, couples, and young families. <br/><br/>The pancakes came in a bowl which was strange. It was ok. I've had worse. The coffee was average too but again, i've had worse coffee in a cafe. My partner had the savoury pancakes with bacon and eggs and he enjoyed it.<br/><br/>A good, cheap feed.
Michelle
Each time I visit Adelaide, I eat here multiple times, and have never had a bad experience. The food has been good, and the staff fine. I'm really surprised by all the bad reviews. When places like this are open 24/7, often busy (and located in an alley off Hindley St.), you've gotta cut them a little bit of slack. Plus, you get a jar of maple syrup with each dish.
Ymmas
Banana Split, strawberry thickshake. Everytime I come here for pancake, but this time I would like to try new stuff. We ordered banana split and strawberry thickshake. The banana split a bit too expensive for this portion, ice-cream could not taste bad, isn't it? The strawberry thickshake was super sweet, I could only taste syrup but not strawberry flavour. The worst thickshake in Adelaide.
Espi777
Keep in mind that you are eating in a 24hr restaurant in an alley. Off feral ole Hindley street no less. And thats about where your expectations should be to start out with. It's definately not a food snob place. Pancake kitchen is a warm place out of the rain. It is a place to take a comforting break from the partying/shopping. The coffee might not be the greatest ever, but it's hot and it is conveniently there, and they're willing to accept your inebriated self without objection. <br/>The food is the sugary, salty fatty kind to comfort you deep down inside. I like the Russian Blintz. It is always too big to finish. My husband usually gets something with bacon.<br/>I haven't found the staff rude, but if they were, I imagine it's because of the drunken rot they most likely have to deal with on a daily basis, due to their location. I have seen some pretty objectionable happenings in Hindley on occasion, after all.<br/> I quite like the orange & pine decor, in a comforting, non-pretentious way. At least it's not wanky. <br/>We have been there a few times, after life moments of crises -coming home from w&c hospital, for example- when not much else was open, and have had some good cheering up there. It also feels quite private, as the premesis is somewhat of a rabbit warren.<br/>Visiting pancake kitchen is like a warm hug from an old girl who has been around the block a few times. Innoffensive, well-meaning and slightly crusty. <br/>Plus as least you can't see through the warm orange tinted windows well. Sometimes that in itself is comfort alone.
Jacimarble
Not worth it. If I wanted pre cooked food and dodgy service I'd go to Maccas.
Covert
Don't come here. Please eat somewhere else. Staff like this should be removed. Customer is always wrong here and the staff are always right. eggs a pre cooked then let to cool down, a hot meal arrived with half the food hot and the rest cold.
AJ
Rude people and ordinary food. Where to begin? Probably best to say 'just keep walking'. The waitress dealing with us was rude and the service was poor. The food didn't come out together and when it did the food was cold. They refused a simple substitute to make a meal vegetarian (it can't be that hard to replace bacon with mushrooms as a side you would think). Not good at all

Better off bin diving. A friend and I recently ventured down the alley way of 24 hour pancakes as tourists, seeking a late night coffee in the streets of Adelaide. With limited choice, we hesitantly opened the creaky door of the place that’s best selling feature is it has no competitors past 6pm. <br/><br/>The signs at the till should be warning enough, making jokes of poor customer service, or the fact there is none. Ordering coffee’s at a coffee place, one would expect they know what a long black is, or their additional surcharge on soy milk - but not so. <br/><br/>We paid the price of a high-end brew, but what we received was far from it, and in my friends case - didn’t receive. After 30 minutes, the Soy Latte came as a vanilla tasting milk shake, at least that is what we assume they were trying to create. Waiting another 30 minutes (which the Soy Latte was hardly touched), no sign of the overpriced Long Black. It was at this point, based on the lack of Latte pleasure, we decided a complaint was futile (as suggested at the till by the signage) and our lives were better off leaving the 24 Pancake establishment. <br/><br/>I rate it a 1/5, not because it deserves the 1, but that rather I feel awarding it it’s deserved 0/5 may cause this place to loose patronage, and in effect the life battler behind the till may be on his way to ruin someone else’s business. <br/><br/>We didn’t try the Pancakes, and based on everyone else in the place at the time - we don’t doubt it’s all very delicious when you’re high. But for the tourist seeking that hidden late night brew, best try the instant coffee in your room.

This place has a really nice comfortable atmosphere. Excellent crispy bacon, to die for swiss chocolate shakes, and the banana caramel pancakes are the best I've ever had. The only bad thing was their waffle special. They were like stale, dry lumps of dough in the shape of a waffle coated in chocolate. I took one bite and I couldn't finish it. Pancakes 8/10, waffles 0/10.
Bstar
Was ok.. service was average, food was nice though. Still..I have never had table service and had to pay before, or eaten pancakes from a bowl either. Still, if I was drunk and hungry I'd go back.
Tanya
I think that other reviewers are expecting far too much from this place. It's a 24 hour restaurant of course it's going to be a little dirty is McDonalds always clean??? They make you pre pay because of people that run off without paying, that's just common sense ! The food is good it's no different to the Pancake Parlor in taste and it's so much cheaper with pretty much the same menu. So if your looking for something affordable, quick or to cure a hangover try it out.
Phil
If you like pancakes then don't go here. Despite all the colorful words in the menu the reality is boring, tasteless and unappetizing food. Service was terrible and the place needs a good clean. Save yourself the trouble and go to one of the many other places in the area.

Very Disappointing. Went there today. It was filthy. The staff were indifferent, almost rude and not accommodating in any way whatsoever. You have to pay at the table before you're even served. Waited nearly 30 minutes for a simple savoury pancake meal.<br/>I don't understand how this place is still surviving based on my experience today. Maybe it's the trade from late nighters that keep it alive. Really disappointing.

The other reviews are pretty spot on. Only go here if it's a last resort. The food is very basic and I'm sure it's great if you're wasted at 4am. If you're looking for a nice dinner at a reasonable time, don't come here. Service was fine, a bit pricey for the poor quality. Seems most people only come for the shakes.
Rachael
We went here recently. Bad food, overpriced, filthy, bad bad bad service and staff are extremely rude (that's putting it mildly). Don't waste your money, time or energy on this place. Was overall a very bad experience.

Great Swiss shakes, average everything else. The Swiss shakes are the only reason that I go to the pancake house. It was my first time having one and it was fantastic. I have tried their savoury and sweet "pancakes" but they're nothing really impressive. And judging by my friends' reactions, none of the other drinks or meal options (including the steak or the chicken) are any good.<br/><br/>Swiss shakes are a thicker, more filling version of a milkshake. If you are a fan of the latter I certainly recommend that you try the former at least once.

Good Food and Service. After 20 years have recently stated going back to Pancake Kitchen. First pleasant surprise is the refurbished interior. Still the same style i remember but proper panelling and fresh paint throughout, (done this year 2013) not dingy any more.<br/>I've only had friendly service but is a pain to have to go to till if paying by card. Most staff I saw seemed happy, even once at 2am! <br/>I ask about the food I'm going to eat and was happy to find , the whipped butter is real, pancakes ARE made to order, and oh my God the Swiss choc malt shakes are addictive, real chocolate syrup not that normal stuff...<br/>Will keep going back.
Holygrail42
Very average. After walking around trying to find a restaurant that wasn't booked out on a Saturday night, we found this place. <br/>The service was poor, the food average and the setting very unpleasant.<br/>Walking in we were told to find a seat. Not many tables were clean and we hadn't been told how to order. After asking , we could order at the table only if we had cash otherwise we had to go up to the desk to pay by card. <br/>Our meals were ok, what you would expect at a pancake place.
Tony
Used to eat here in my childhood in the 80's and still come here. Ah, the memories... rollerskating at Downtown, lunch at The Pancake Kitchen and jukeboxes with 80's music!.
Burgoid
RANK!!! An understatement. I love pancakes... Most people do, not from here though.<br/>Bad service and a filthy, filthy establishment. Shame on you...<br/>Pull up your socks.

Overated. The only good thing about the place is that its open 7days a week and all day. Other than that, the pancakes are average. Standard of pancakes varies. Sometimes its allright, sometimes its just too thick and undercook. Heard much raves about it, but it did not live up to expectations. service is average, decor is just old fashioned, and food is just passable. nothing unique, will only go back if im desperate for food at odd timings, otherwise i'll pass thanks.
Sarah
The Pancake Kitchen is terrible! I have no idea why anyone would continue to go here! The service is terrible. The staff are unhelpful and not very friendly and you are not welcomed upon arrival. The wait for food is long and it isn't that good. Will never go back.
Hangry Cat
Coming from Melbourne, this place is no where near as good as pancake palour. The food is average and pretty basic (could have done better at home!) Service was pretty bad but maybe I got the dogey ones. Overall, wouldn't return.
Not_fussy
This place was awesome. Everything u could want in a pancake. Fluffy, great texture and delicious. The sausage that came with the German meal was very good too.
Yumyuminmytummy
Bad service, took my little 4 year old son there was so disappointed they couldn't make simple adjustment to his needs, and then served me pancakes without butter then charged me extra for it. Won't be going back.
Lani
Disgraceful. I can not even find words to say how appalled I am at the service from this place! The advertisements on TV make it seem like a whole bunch of silly fun and great food! The staff here have been rude beyond comprehension on every visit I have made here! The last visit made me crack enough to write a review! Once again we we're greeted in a rushed manor and sat at our choice of FILTHY table. our orders were taken by staff that have never smiled in their life. The food I actually like which is why I have actually gone back previous times (never again). Once I had finished my meal, I got up to go to the BATHROOM leaving the receipt we had been given when we paid with my friends at the table. I was stopped on my way to the ladies room by a staff member refusing me access to their precious bathroom saying it is only for patrons! I said that I had just finished my meal. Her response was "Do you have the receipt?" I NEEDED PROOF THAT I HAD JUST EATEN TO GO TO THE TOILET! this was all directly next to another table of diners watching me fight to go to the toilet! I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me, I was mortified! I grabbed my receipt and gave it to her and entered the sacred bathroom. The womens room had a suspicious disgusting water puddle coming from under the door. I decided after all of this, I will just hold it and go to the bathroom at a sevice station or something. Absolutely disgusting place!
Zoe L
Service was average as was the food however was very fast to come out.
Ling
Inconsistent. Went there for a breakfast in the morning, the staff that served us was alright, breakie were good. But I do agree with most of the reviews, more often the services are poor and dessert pancakes are bland, nothing special. Having said that, I liked my breakfast that day.
MSF
Extremely poor customer service. My friends and I made our first visit to the Pancake Kitchen today and we will certainly never return there again because of the terrible customer service and lacklustre dishes. The waitress was extremely rude when taking the order and she came across as abrupt, impatient and scowling. The pancakes were only average and rather bland. We requested to speak to the manager to give feedback but none was available, and we were instead directed to speak to one of the cooks, who appeared just as unfriendly. No apology was offered for the poor customer service and instead the excuse was made that they were "busy" - once again reflecting an attitude of extremely poor service.
Greg Parkinson
Don't let.... ... curiosity get the better of you. <br/><br/>We did and shouldn't have bothered. <br/><br/>Bad coffee, bad pancakes, terrible decor. <br/><br/>By some instant pancake mix from the supermarket and make your own.

Atrocious. Coming from Sydney, I was looking for a treat for my young niece, who I was taking out for lunch. This place was recommended as the only pancake eatery now in Adelaide. On entry, at around 1pm on a weekday, my expectations were immediately disappointed. The atmosphere is aggressively charmless, with tired decor which reflects the worst of 1970s taste. A sinister odour of criminality seemed to rest in the air also. The table was unclean and the carpet and windows filthy. My instinctive response was to leave, but I could not think of an alternative at such short notice. So we reluctantly gave it a try. The menu does offer extensive choices, but this seems to be possible because much of the food, going by taste and appearance, is not produced on site to order. I even doubt whether the pancakes are made to order by the kitchen. My niece ordered plain pancakes with maple syrup, which were soggy but edible. My dish was totally inedible and served cold (the pancake even had that tell-tale "refrigerator" taste to it). The cherry coulis was sickening, and the filling (ricotta and raisins?) was claggy and saccharine. I took merely two small bites. <br/><br/>Clearly the house policy of demanding payment before service is a canny one: surely few customers would be willing to pay for what they actually receive. <br/><br/>Other reviews have commented unfavourably about the staff. I can say that my experience on this score was not the same. The waiter was polite and (discretely) apologetic.<br/><br/>His efforts could not, however, change my overall impression of Pancake Kitchen. It is the worst eatery I have ever dined in, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

A good experience.. I have just taken 10 children to the pancake kitchen and is was great. We were a little worried about the food and service after reading some of these comments.<br/><br/>I am happy to report that the food was great (given they are pancakes), the service friendly and fast. None of us could fault it.<br/><br/>12 happy customers, and we will be back!
Vicky Gorst
Went today to have the old time favorite banana pancakes and instead of the warm caramel ...banana topping on banana...how horrible...after 35 years....sorry the bowl they were served in the service and the taste means...I wil never be back.
Apple
Waited over an hour for drinks then half hour after that received our meals.. Was nothing special.. Certainly not worth the wait.
Russell Crisp
Why do you pay when you order?. Arrived and seated at a dirty table. Had to ask for it to be cleaned. Then the order was taken and had to pay up front. Too many people do a runner we were told. 40 minutes to get our meal. Others who came in after us were served. The staff did not come near us. I phoned them to get water and the staff came over and told me it was on the bar. I went to the bar and the jug was empty. I had to ask again!! Still no one came to the table to serve. I stood up again and asked for the manager to be told again they have bee inundated with customers. It did not look busy. I phoned up again and asked for the manager and was told that he was too busy to talk. I asked for my money back and I heard them yell out that "he wants his money back". The duty manager came over and started telling me they were busy hence the slow service. It did not explain how people who came in later got their meals before us. I asked for my money back and was told I needed to speak to Julie the manager who off course was not in. Two potential victims of bad service got up and left when they heard the way we had been spoken to and our experience. I will be back to see Julie at 9am!!
Angie
The pancakes are delicious, especially Farmer's Breakfast with the hashbrowns! Probably not the best place to go if you're looking for friendly service/comfortable atmosphere, I've been hassled by some drunk boys (at 10 in the morning!!) and the waitresses are bad-tempered. But what can I say? I just go there for the food.
Trish Taylor
First and Last time!!!. Our first time to the Pancake Kitchen was not what i expected the service was lousy!!! being told to find our own table ,which was dirty. After finally recieving our meal we were then asked to move to another table because we had been seated in the wheel chair access, who puts tables and chairs in the way of wheel chair access?? My husband and I ordered the canadian feast which was only just warm and the tomato was cold , however the kid s raved about their food ,the place itself is in need of a makeover, including the staff. Was not worth the money that we paid. Been there done that WONT be going back!!!
Freya Conran
It was awful, I would not recommend it to anyone.

Waited over half an hour - still no service. The table we sat on was dirty. Asked one of the waiters to come and clean it, she had very bad attitude towards us. Since she already saw us, we thought she would of came right back to take our order. But never did come back. It was not busy. There was only 2 waiters. Both of them looked very scruffy! Bad presentation. The other waiter had eye contact with one of us, but he never came to take our order. Left the place - felt very disgusted with the service. Never again are we going back!
Kara Hofen
Decent food, especially when youre drunk.<br/>Actually, you should probably only go there when you're drunk that way you won't notice how inattentive the staff are or how incredibly long it takes for them to get to your table to take your order. Every time. Absolutely ridiculous.
Joshua Surman
My adventure to the pancake kitchen was one I would like to forget! Bad food bad service and I would warn others against it.
See Food Diet
My waffle with strawberries & icecream took ages to come out, was served by busy, miserable, rude staff and came out as a big fat sponge zapped in the microwave, yet still only warm when we made the mistake of putting it into our mouths. Packed to go with no cutlery although requested, it was a messy treat with defrosted strawberries in a sickening syrup with ice cream on the side. Would have enjoyed the foam & plastic packaging better.
Joyce Ceravolo
Used to absolutely love this place. It must have changed ownership or taken on a terrible kitchen staff as the food is now nothing short of horrible. Green tomatoes. Stodgy pancakes, cold, obviously mass produced Benedict sauce on eggs. What a sad change of pace for an Adelaide icon. Avoid avoid avoid.
Krystal Chase
A nice place with its own charisma, it’s definitively worth the look if you want something different and have a sweet tooth. The value for money and quality of the food has always been good and the various pancakes and other selections of food is great.
Madams
I have never been to a place where the staff are so rude and nasty. I have been here a few times as it is the only option besides McDonald's late at night and every time the staff have been ridiculously rude. I asked for a rare steak and it came out medium, I told the chef, Jenny, and she just stared at me and walked off. My table was the only group of people in the restaurant at the time and the "pancake nazi" came out and told us to stop being so loud or else would kick us out, we weren't even loud and were the only ones in the restaurant? Good food, crappy service.
Ryan Meffan
Well at the risk at sounding like every other review about this place I'll say it, the food was great! But the service. That was horrible!!!!! And that's being polite! I would get better service, at a KFC drive thru! In short, food yes. Service hell no!!!!!
Josephine
The pancakes themselves were nice the service was not. Waitress was unjustly rude & sarcastic, definitely not a people-person. Overrated & over priced.
Tim
Don't even bother (unless drunk). A friend and I recently ate here at 4am on a Thursday after a night shift in the city. We chose it because it's an icon of the city and pretty much the only option for a proper dinner at that hour, that isn't fast food or convenience store sandwiches. <br/><br/>The website was impressive, the menu inviting, so we went in expecting a hearty meal in a friendly atmosphere.... how very disappointing it turned out to be, and that's putting it nicely. <br/>We were "greeted" by the middle-aged 'Pancake Nazi' (a reference to the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld) other reviewers online have mentioned - a guy who looked offended that we'd even considered bringing our business there. He simply snapped "two of you?" before thrusting the menus at us and walking off. We sat down, picked out what we wanted and in about 5 minutes he was back to take our order - well we assumed so considering he came over and stood there holding a pad in silence.<br/><br/>We both ordered steak - my friend ordered his rare with the pancake and hollandaise sauce + salad, mine medium with pepper sauce, fried dutch potatoes and salad. They make you pay at the table there right after ordering, and I asked if we could pay separately, to which the Pancake Nazi snarled "NO!" and glared at me.<br/> I figured he was kidding as some waiters often do but my smile faded after a couple of seconds when I realised he was serious.<br/><br/>He added up the order and told us it was $67 (it was actually $57) - we gave him $80 and he grunted, snatched up the money and disappeared.<br/>It was at this point I got my phone out to check review sites like this one because I was so taken aback at how rude this guy was being, especially as people generally rave about the place. He returned with two lots of change, looked confused and then sighed and dropped the money on the table for us to work out.<br/><br/>When the food arrived both steaks were bleeding profusely - I know my mate ordered his rare but these things were luke-warm and chewy.<br/> The "fried dutch potatoes" were run-of-the-mill white that hadn't been peeled, but cut into chunks and fried probably for about 30 seconds - they were still raw on the inside.<br/> The salad looked like the dregs from a buffet salad bar and tasted worse, and the sauces (pepper, hollandaise) were obviously something whipped up in 2 minutes from a Continental sachet or the like (we hope). <br/>The pancake that was servied with my friend's steak looked suspiciously like one from a Golden Pancakes 3-pack you find in supermarkets and then microwave - he confirmed it tasted like one.<br/>The only thing we ordered that was without issue was the Coopers Sparkling Ale.<br/><br/>I considered asking for a refund or at least another attempt at making a decent plate, but with the treatment we'd received by Mr. Pancake Nazi so far, I was confident we'd get nowhere with a complaint, and we were hungry after a long night so picked around and ate whatever we considered to be safe.<br/><br/>A comment left on another site about how they make you pay first because the good is crap was sounding right on the money by this point.<br/>When we left, we stood outside to have a cigarette and discuss the experience - we saw Pancake Nazi through the window clearing our table, and as he picked up our bottles he glanced at us and made a hand-gesture in a "f--- off" manner, like we'd offended him by not cleaning up our own table, washing our own dishes etc etc.<br/><br/>Overall it was the worst service I've ever received, anywhere, across any industry. The food was acceptable for a bachelor meal cooked at home at 4am, but downright abysmal considering the $22.50 each we paid for our steaks. I'm never going back there again, and I'm assuming the only reason the place survives is because of the fact that it's 24/7 and if you don't want a burger or a sandwich, it's your only option. Also the place is famous for end-of-night feeds, so most of the clientele would probably be too drunk to care.<br/><br/>Don't even bother, really. I'm not the only one to be treated like this if you read some other reviews around on the net. It's a shame because the restaurant itself has character, and the last time I was there (5 or so years ago) we were treated by friendly, courteous staff and the food was delicious.<br/><br/>PS: If you're reading this Pancake Nazi, maybe it's time for Zoloft (or a new job).
Luna
Definitely not an Adelaidr Icon. Horrible service, overpriced menu and lacking in atmosphere. Its a shame how well regarded it is by locals when Adelaide has so much better to offer. <br/><br/>As for the 24/7 notion, all I can say is McDonalds is also open 24/7. Enough said?
Willa Bean
Great place.. This place is fantastic. i always have a short stack and an enormous iced coffee. too good! and always try to sit at the back near the duke box. i try to go as much as possible but as its in the city, parking is always difficult.

Late Night Nostalgia. How can you not love the Pancake Kitchen?! Great venue, tucked away off Hindley, and open 24 hours. Score yourself a quaint little booth and order away! <br/><br/>My favourites: Dutch Chocolate Pancakes, Eggs Benedict (yep. on a pancake. pretty delicious), and Jamaican Banana Pancakes.<br/><br/>Vego friend once got this amazing savoury vegetarian pancake dish. The more I think about it, the more I can't wait to go back and get it for myself!
Marky-Mark Meyer
An Adelaide Icon. Open 24/7 (a rarity for sleepy Adelaide), yet has apparently never closed since it was opened in the 1960s. I don't think anyone has performed any maintenance on the building since then either. Being a run-down dive with disgusting death-trap toilets doesn't stop me from returning for the good cheap food and secluded atmosphere (except for school holiday times). Stacks of pancakes, German sausages, eggs, and more make this worth a visit if you like this kind of thing and not willing to judge a book by its cover. If they increased the prices by a few dollars to cover the cost of modest renovations I think this place could really bring in a whole new set of big spenders given it has a prime CBD position.
Daniel
Coffee made with water. Havent been here for a long while, but when you pay a few bucks for a coffee in a restaurant you dont want it made from water...! woeful
Anne
Very Poor. Food wasn't even good enough to dish up to my dog. No wonder they make you pay up front cause you wouldn't pay after they served up that garbage. Will never go there again.
Food Critic
Terible food, service and price!!!. Absolutely, without a doubt, the worst food I have ever consumed. You'd think the pancake kitchen would specialise in producing gormet pancakes with fresh ingredients and hand made mixture... not frozen produce and packet mixes from the supermarket. And to top it off, 3 people paid $60+! In summary, terribly overpriced, food not edible and disgraceful service... do not go there (unless there is a change in management!)
The Ugly Truth
Good good worse service ever. 40-50 year old man that works there can only be described as the pancake nazi.
Liza
Rolling out the door. This is such an Adelaide icon. Every time I come here it doesn't seem to change one bit and that's why I like it! <br/><br/>Vinyl covered seats, large tables, booths and walls covered with old fashioned caricature pictures and a wall length magazine rack. You do need to pay upon ordering so this may be a surprise to some, but hey you just have to get with the program because this is how they roll. It is open 24hrs after all!<br/><br/>The food is always piled up high and tastes fantastic. I can't resist the pancake stack with blueberries. My husband ate the breakfast pancakes with eggs, bacon, etc etc and almost finished all of it. It takes a fair amount of commitment!<br/><br/>We will return next time we're in Adelaide again!
Jmangbebe
Good pancakes. too bad they hired waitresses from ladette to lady. just plain rude. comeon. just rude.
Tango
Terrible service. They have decent size meals for a decent price. BEWARE, have your money ready or they get the kitchen nazi to come out all angry, ROLL HER EYES at you, shake her head and say to everyone, "uh your food is already coming out and you haven't even paid yet". RUDE MUCH? we came in with 18 people with big orders and for some reason money is missing and we are sitting there NICELY with the waiter trying to work it out and apologizing numerous times as we are trying to work out who forgot to put in some extra. If they are so big on pre payments - why did half our food start coming out? RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. ruined my meal. I don't know anybody that does that. WHO DOES THAT? RUDE. can't even egg the place coz they pack it with security cameras.
Mark Macdonald
Perfect place if your not extremely hungry or can't make a decision. The menu is standard pancake parlour fare and the house wine is poison but does the job.
Tayls
A great range pancakes and steaks to fill to the brim. Has some character but you will have to be prepared for a wait at it's busy times.
Ryan Dowling
A great place to go at any time during the day or night. Great sized meals for your buck and very nice atmosphere and staff

I have eaten there a number of time, the service was perfect and the servings were huge, great place of a romantic or naughty first date

With Adelaide being the small town that it is, there’s definitely a lack of places serving food at 2:30am on a Sunday morning. After a big night of drinking, and in desperate need for sustenance, a group of us decided to visit the Pancake Kitchen.

The only pancake parlour in Adelaide and one of the fewwwww places in the city that’s open 24 hours, makes The Original Pancake Kitchen quite popular without even considering the quality of the pancakes itself.  Especially since the establishment is situated right off Hindley Street – Adelaide’s Red Light District – so you can get lots of half-drunk half-rowdy customers at wee hours of the morning who need a little of something filling to end their night. The dark interior gives the place a kind of Alice in Wonderland feel about it.  Bright neon spots of colour from the random arcade-y pieces light up the inky wood somewhat. It’s quite a cosy place. There’s a caricature corner when you walk in. Okay. What is this called again? A music box? Well, this place has one. And it works. Also available, an old piano in working condition right next to it. Oh look, it IS Alice in Wonderland! (I realise there’s an annoying blur line on the picture. Have no idea how it got there. Hm.) So it’s not m

After strolling in Rundle Mall for a couple of hours, the brother and I felt adventurous enough to feed ourselves with some sweets despite attempting to "eatclean". This was the first place that popped in my mind, having heard much reviews from friends about this place and the fact that I like fluffy pancakes to fill my tummy. Ahhhh the gluttony. This is one of the most iconic places to visit if you are new to Adelaide as apparently their history dates back to the 1960s. Pretty impressive and must be worth a visit if it is able to withstand the various types of customers throughout those years, ey? An important message to take home after reading this post? They are opened 7 days a week and are opened throughout the day. Pancakes for 365 days, anyone??:) Their menu includes sweet and savoury options to go with your pancakes. After browsing through the menu for a few minutes, I think most of the pancakes are from the same batter and each option varies in terms of flavours and toppings/ a
