Review Casuarina - Adelaide

Vast selection of brilliant shops and services. Great place to spend several hours before you even realize! I have just added an edit to this post: Last Wednesday I accidentally left my bag near my car, a kind person handed it in and the team at Marion located me to return my bag! I am so thankful to everyone and especially the person who initially handed in my bag as it had significant needs in it. 🙏⭐️🤗😇

Lovely place! Nice restaurants in the food court area as well as cafes all around the mall. Get grocery shopping done, watch a movie or enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Always a lively place!

It is what it is. And as far as these things go it's not that bad. But this is not a genuinely engaging experience. Who knows maybe it's not supposed to be, maybe it's just another cog in the ever oppressive capitalist regime! Not for me to say I guess. But yes they have lots of shops selling very similar and equally unimportant things. And lots of people trying to look important collecting them. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. 3 out of 5 stars.

Very nice place, spacious, huge variety of stores and brands. Great & convenient location.

It was hard to navigate at first ( from interstate). However I would definitely did loose my partner like a two year old looking for his mum. Even though he stood at the front of the shop. Then went wondering (thank God for phones and patience.) Mind you we were shopping for him! Though in the food court he didn't move! Ha you have finally understood us.

A great shopping centre with all the shop you need in one place. Lots of food places to choose and cinema if you like to stop for a break and watch a movie. Free car park, public transport and extended opening hours during the week days until 9pm so you can shop after work.

Best place for shopping in SA. Large shopping centre with virtually all shops required for anything. Very clean and safe and easy to navigate. I would only suggest they improve the diagonal road entrance as the roundabout gets congested easily and people cut lanes. Can’t wait until they expand this centre even more.

Went to the movies with clients. You would think that they'd have wheelchair accessible toilets close by. Too bad if someone couldn't hold on and they're busy hunting for where they could be, and they end up wearing their own bodily fluids. Cinema staff had no idea where the toilets were either. The standard toilets aren't suitable for the elderly either, with having to go down about 7 or 8 steps to access the toilets. This was down cinema 1-19 section. The shopping centre is otherwise awesome

This place in Australia is a must visit. A nice place to have lunch and enjoy good food and ambience. Well presented food 🍲 Good combos!!

I don’t know if it was the cook or the ingredients they used, but everything we have eaten were tasteless and bland. The service was good though.

A family favourite amongst my Malaysian family for many, many years. Delicious, authentic Malaysian food in the most unexpected of places! Don’t waste your money on any of the other mediocre eateries in this section of Marion Shopping Centre.

My Husband and I have been coming to this favourite restaurant for years as it is one of the most well run, friendly, fast service and excellent quality eateries. Their dishes are delicious and many to choose from, Staff are always friendly, efficient and well groomed. So many pluses ...xxx

Terrible service. Terrible food. We’ve been here a few times hoping it’s going to get better but it hasn’t which is disappointing. Avoid at all costs.
Chef On The Run!!
Beautiful dimsums to start with!!good flavour and yummy sauces to accompany it.
Roti canai with steam rice was mediocre, lacked flavours!!might go again but only for dimsums.

Our group has been eating here regularly for a couple of years and enjoy the food very much. Prices are very reasonable. Service is good and staff friendly and polite. My favourite dish is the deluxe seafood laksa. It can get rather loud and noisy in there when the place is full.

Some friend mentioned this place to us as a must try asian restaurant so why don't we.
The area is quite spacious can cover 70 pax I guess.
We orderes Chicken satay platter (3pcs), Chicken Dim sim (3pcs), Massaman curry with roti canai, Singapore noodle.
For the chicken satay was average, the chicken was bland. If they marinated longer might be tender and tasty. I didn't like the peanut sauce, supposed to be thick and sweet. Chicken dim sim was okay but not great. Massaman curry wasn't great, thin curry and not spicy. Well I know I can't compare to massaman curry in indian restaurant or thai. Singapore noodle was okay actually but too much capsicum.
I also had ice teh tarik. To me it was out of expectation. Supposed to be sweet and thick. I dont thing the use a special black tea and didn't put much carnation milk.

Beautiful meal. Fantastic service, & so very polite. Thank you Casuarina and staff for making our first experience so special. Truely worth of a 5.0 rating.

We liked the extensive menu and the big modern open space. The food came quickly and was tasty. We had a seafood claypot, pad thai and salt n' pepper calamari.

Update: we happened here again a couple of days later. My husband enjoyed his seafood claypot. I ordered the chicken green curry as a safe bet though it didn't taste like most green curries I have had. The daily special dessert was mango panna cotta, I wish I hadn't ordered it, it was bland and rubbery and the mango flavour just wasn't there.

One of my go to places for a well priced meal that comes out very quickly!

The combination laksa is great and has made me feel happy, warm and full every time . I have had this at least 10 times since it is such a well valued meal.
Fooddevil
Not the restaurant if you want authentic Asian cuisines. I had laksa and it was not even as good as the ones I had in random foodcourts in the city. A good place for a quick dinner if you don't mind the quality.
Kate
My favourite Singapore noodles ever and I also enjoyed the hokkien mee. The chicken laksa was however ever quite flavourless and the bean curd cubes were not to my taste. I've been here so many times purely for Singapore noodles to dine in and take away. Sometimes service is a little on the slow side which is understandable when it's busy.

When you're at Marion Cinemas and need a quick and easy place to have dinner before your movie, Casuarina Asian Bistro at Marion Shopping Centre, 297 Diagonal Road, Oaklands Park is a great option. We had only half an hour before our movie started and the lovely staff here were honest enough to explain if we chose the stir fried or noodle dishes we would definitely make it in time.

After a longish day, visited to collect lads from the movie and needed a quick meal. Place was very busy as a saturday evening and whilst lady said, probably 20 minutes for food, we chose noodles as we were mindful of needed for speed. Meals arrived say 12 - 15 minutes later and my Singapore Noodles was generous in serving size, mix of ingredients and tasty. Reasonable value meal with good service. Slightly noisy inside did detract a touch but not so bad as to not go back!

My partner and I stopped in here to grab a quick bite before a movie as we'd always seen it busy but never been in. We were seated promptly and the service was friendly. Please note though that the table itself was not cleaned and we were not given cutlery.

I ordered the deluxe laksa (prawns, wantons, squid, mussels) and the partner ordered crispy noodles. Again, the service was prompt and the food came out quickly which is expected with this style of food however what we received was atrocious. The seafood was overcooked and like rubber in both dishes. The 'crispy' noodles were simply dry noodles that were placed into a soup consisting of what tasted like the brine of canned vegetables. The laksa itself was a standard base however lacked any spice and real flavour. The best part of all of this was the tofu.

Very disappointing.

One of the most authentic Singapore chicken rice I've had in Australia. Tender and succulent! Definitely exceeded my expectations. What a hidden gem in the suburbs of Adelaide.

Love It!. Have been here a few times and have never been disappointed.

The service is always fairly quick and friendly.
The food is heaven!

Tonight we chose the Sambal Prawns, the Kung Pao Prawns and a Nasi Goreng to share. I even took a take home pack of the goreng, so I could have it with the curry I'm making tomorrow night.

It was all delicious and very moreish.
Will definitely be back.

Very disappointed. Overall the food was very average but the Singapore noodles were horrific, they came out with a handful of shredded lettuce on top a five day old wedge of lime and the sauce tasted suspiciously like tomato sauce (yuk). It use to be a very nice place to eat but now it resembles the food court and the food is to match.
Peter_reynolds
Dissapointed. No Service and old rice.
Benno 600
I am not one to write negative reviews however, the dish I was served had old dry rice and the chicken was over cooked and therefore chewy. Lucky the other person I was dining with had a satisfactory meal with good flavour, well cooked meat and good rice. Over all id give this venue a rating of 5/10

Dinner Meal. Extremely disappointed - seated at an outdoor table in the corner - mind you they were very busy. Had to chase the waitress to be seated. Food and drinks took over an hour and a half to come out. Not everything came out together. Won't be going back there again.

I'm going to compare this place to the other reastaurants in westfield marion since I'm assuminv the rent is high. For the price I paid I was satisfied with my meal. The service is definitely superior to the other restaurants there; friendly staff, fast service and the staff are knowledgable about what goes in their food and will modify the level of spice quite nicely. One big letdown was the squid in my meal - very rubbery. Prawns and fishcakes were fine. And the chicken in the other people i was with's meals were also quite good.

Decent Malaysian food. Had the nasi lemak and char kway teow. Serving size was huge. We thought the "sambal" serving was too little - it was only a tablespoon! The beef rendang that came together with the nasi lemak had only three pieces of meat. Char Kway teow tasted alright. Also had the special seafood laksa which we thought was watery. Been here three times. Won't be returning.

DELICIOUS!!!. I love it here, the food is so delicious. It has changed dramatically I have organized my birthday dinner here of 14 people I wouldn't go anywhere else! Fantastic pricing and great variety. Thank you Casuarina. Do yourself a favour and have a nice dinner there.

Good place to dine after movie. We have enjoyed going to this restaurant after the movie.
Pleasant , affordable , good variety.
Is it still in the same location ? I have not seen the sign outside from Sturt Rd

Middle of the road. We've eaten here many times as easy before or after the movies next door. It's not the greatest food you're going to taste but there is a large range & it's all quite good. The roti is yum!! A little over priced but it's not a 4 star + Resturant.
The staff could do with a bomb under them sometimes but mostly attentive.

Great service, very friendly . The food was lovely !! We all enjoyed it very much.

We found both the food & the service excellent. I dived headlong into the Deluxe Laksa having first donned a suggested bib (thankyou friendly, friendly waitress) My guest ordered the Roast Duck & I haven't heard her remain so quiet for quite a long time except to say how yummy the dish was when she came up for air. Great pre-movie dining.

Thanks to the beautiful heart waitress Di Ong. Such fantastic mannerisms and service. And that smile! There should be more people in the world just like her!!! BTW The food was awesome. :)

The service was average. As we walked into the restaurant we weren't greeted, even though we noticed the waitress looked over at us. The waiter at the counter walked us through the restaurant and pointed us to our table. The waitress was difficult to understand and my mum's meal came out a good 10 minutes before my sisters and mine, which is always an unpleasant experience. The food itself was average, my sister's meal was awful so she asked to exchange her meal or to not get charged for it. The only positive experience at Casuarina was the we didn't get charged for my sister's meal but only due to the fact that it was 'Mothers Day'. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you like being disappointed.

BEWARE!. Sent out raw chicken to our table and then tried to make me pay for it, lucky I seen it before my partner ate it or things could of been a LOT worse!

Service good and shop feature nice. But food very bad . Small serve cost a lot. Taste like blended all Asia food, and they use a lot MSG!
Collywolly
Give it a chance.. Was seated promptly and once while our order was taken, had to say the waiter knew his stuff - particularly concerning delivery of dishes (e.g. one guest wanted two entree dishes as a main - no problem; and water no ice - a bottle of water to be delivered to the table).
Had the Sang Choy Bow, Green Chicken Curry, and Roti Canai. Sang Choy Bow was good, Green Chicken Curry was good but some of the aromats - long pieces of woody lemongrass - were still in the dish... but otherwise polished off the lot. Would have liked more than one Roti Canai in a serve though.
Certainly a marked improvement from a visit several years ago. I'd come back again.

Atmosphere has changed ever since the renovations. Can't understand the waitress either.

There are some excellent dishes like Nasi Lemak, Tamarind Prawns, Ayam Fried Chicken and the Fried Noodles ... Definitely better than Spargos which is always packed even though the food there is terrible !

Casurina Malaysian Bistro. Three years ago, my wife and I thought we might try it. We haven't been back, until tonight. It's even worse now. Save your money, and go ANYwhere else.
Rosie
Asked the waiter whether the 'Vegetarian' Laksa contained any meat or shrimp paste and he assured me it didn't. Asked him to double check with the chef only to find, surprise surprise, it made with shrimp paste and fish stock. Claimed they couldn't change it so tried to help me choose something else but all the Vegetarian options besides two contained oyster sauce or fish sauce. We left with out eating anything. VERY dissappointing considering many Malaysian dishes are Vegetarian anyway. Waiter was friendly however
Alexandra
Excellent food - have been going there for lunch and dinner many times over the years - never had a bad experience!

Super average experience... I would've been more satisfied with a microwaved rubber chicken roll from BP

I love laksa and this is the best i've found in Adelaide. Ask for the deluxe version of the seafood laksa and youll be a happy camper. Service is very friendly if you are not a grumpy guest.

Worst meal ever. Food was terrible, tasted bad and still regretting it the next day. not cheap either...
Kristin
Really disappointed. Meals came out 10 minutes apart. Chicken cashew tasteless and vegetables looked like they came out of a can. There were corn and peas in it! Green chicken curry for $20 had 2 pieces of chicken in it. Terrible. And excuse was that was what was traditional. What the? Never going back.

I go every chance I get. I always order from the rice and noodle menu (cheap menu) usually have the dish with the crispy noodles but I also love the Nasi Goreng, Hainanase Chicken, and the Roti is to die for.

Thought we would give the place a try after refurb. Hoping that the quality would have improved as well. Ordered the salt and pepper prawns and was served a plate with only 5 actual prawns the rest was fried prawn heads. Completely inedible. All for $24. All main meals were served separately up to 10-15 minutes apart. Felt ripped off. Manager appallingly rude!
Mae
Loving the recent refurbishment, the atmosphere just adds to the already great food!

Once great, but going downhill.... Casuarina was fabulous in about 2006, but seems to have gone through a few changes since then, maybe in management and chefs - its hard to tell. Either way, the quality has dipped a little, from "great" to "pretty good but a little overpriced". The staff are appallingly bad, particularly over the phone. A good choice if you're after something quick and easy, but don't be surprised if it isn't as good as the ratings suggest. [It isn't entirely clear why it is listed as "kid friendly" either - as, other than being sited in a shopping mall, it offers nothing in particular for children.]

Been here before, food is still good, but the staff were the moodiest grumpiest lot I've ever come across. Not a single smile to be had. The Indian waiter in particular did not utter a single word to us during the whole experience and generally looked like he wanted to murder us all. If I had a bit more Dutch courage I would have pulled him up on it then and there. Very disappointing service.

Casuarina is located on the first floor of Westfield Marion at the base of the cinemas. This place has been here for well over a decade so I imagine they must be doing something right. If you come here at lunchtime, you only get to see the lunchtime menu which is divided into noodle, rice and roti, vegetable and main courses.
