Review The Wakefield Hotel - Adelaide

Great food selection (better than your regular pub grub). Drinks, too. Everything looks fresh and updated. Plus they support the local MFS charity, so what's not to like?

Had a work function here today and there was no aircon on a 39°C day which was pretty uncomfortable, being in cramped space with 30+ people. The nibbles were decent - wedges, spring rolls, fried dumplings and dim sum, and sliders. Not bad but not amazing. Service at the bar was slow at times with lots of people lining up. The place could do with a bit of Christmas decoration too!

Lovely environment but my steak was over cooked and uneatable.

Great Meal l a Saturday Night. Good price great value.

Friendly, helpful staff, nice atmosphere and great classic pub food with a nice balance of fancy but simple. Some pricing is I think I bit higher than it should be, but the food is good quality and it came out nice and fast. Always look forward to eating here.

Not enough gravy on schnitzel and not enough Dukkah with the Turkish bread. Otherwise, it was fine.

Unfortunately not great food. The company at lunch made up for it.

My go to meal here now is the steak sandwich. It seems expensive when you look at it but when you see what comes out you realise why - massive. The sweet potato fries are nice for something different. Good service. Comfy pub.

First visit here today and was suitably impressed. Went for lunch, with a group of work colleagues for a pre Christmas get together. Service was friendly and speedy and the steak sandwich I ordered was divine! Very tender steak, with bacon, fried onion, relish, lettuce and served on a long bun that had been toasted. Yummy seasoned fries on the side, presented on a wooden bread board. If you wanted an egg as well, it was an extra $1.50. There is also a nice outdoor area to sit in (walk through the restaurant to get there) plus table and chairs on the front footpath. Perfect for a warm day. The only drawback was the parking. Metered parking that requires you keep an eye on the time or there is a Wilson car park almost next door but that is only open weekdays til 7pm. A great spot. Be happy to go back.

When you pre order you expect the food to come out in the next 5-10 mins not 35 mins. And that's pre ordered food. What happens to normal ordered food.

Food wise it was good but not great. Not worth waiting 35 minutes for.

Wakefield - what has happened??
I've been coming here for work lunches for years and was pleased to see a new menu recently. Normally a change is for the better but the Beef Chimachinga I had was virtually inedible. Dry, over-cooked cheap mince wrapped in a massive piece of deep fried pastry. No sour cream or accompaniments, just a touch of melted tasty cheese.
So so disappointing, I hope they cleanup their act soon!
Manager Needs A Firm Kick Up The Backside.... Food is usually great. Little dry, but that's generally not too much of a problem.
However, the manager is beyond rude. Rather than apologising for his behaviour he decides instead to continue being a smartarse about it. I would've been happy to let it go after the last instance, but since he so insisted on being an arsehole this time too, I insisted upon not providing him with my business. I usually attend this restaurant with at least a dozen or so others, and you can be certain that I shall be suggesting against any of us returning.
The rest of the staff seems generally friendly, as well as largely apologetic and in agreement with how much of an arse their manager is.

Shocking!!!. Have been coming to the Wakefield for years. Loved the food and the service. However, no longer! Food was less than average, at above average prices. Service was equally below average.
I guess asking for a 'cup of tea' at 7:59pm is too hard to accommodate at the Wakefield. The machine was 'turned off'. Didn't realise a cup of hot water and a tea bag required the coffee machine to be turned on!!! And which establishment turns off their coffee machine at 7:59pm.??!!!!!
Let's not forget to mention we were placed at a dirty table and had to source our own cutlery and side plates to eat our entree of 'hand cut fries' which turned out to be a very small bowl of 'wedges'!!!
Take my advice....give the place a total miss!!!

Poor service. A member of the wakefield and use to love it. Great food and friendly service.
For about 3 months now service has been slipping and so has management. Still came as food was ok. Tonight have decided to hang up my membership as the food was bad and the service was really atrocious! Set our own table with side plates, waitress clearly doesnt want to be here judging by the sour look on her face and rudeness to clients. After our meal felt like a cup of tea, so hot water and a tea bag and at 8.00pm was Told with no apology coffee machine off and declined to serve us.
Do yourselves a favor and stay away!! Much better pubs/cafes with friendly faces!!!

It just works.. Steak Sandwich + Crowder & Co = awesome. Exactly what I expect from an inner city pub; good service, great décor, reasonable prices, craft beer and well executed meals. Sure, it was overrated pub grub...but it is a pub and not a restaurant! Top stuff, thanks guys and gals @ the Wakey.

Not Bad. Not bad if you're going to go for a special or take a voucher - the pricing here is quite high, although not unreasonable.

The food is always fresh and tasty, adn the service is prompt and friendly.

The service here was good and the atmosphere was relaxed. The menu pricing is average, although I felt I could have had a bit more on my plate. This place is not bad, but not great either.
...I was starving and looking forward to a good meal. We were greeted on arrival which was nice and ordered our usual quickly. The meals arrived ridiculously fast today, they only took about 7 minutes. There was no salad bar (none expected since we were in the city), but the meal came with a small salad. There was no option for bread though. The salad was dressed with a tasty mustard dressing but could have been a bit larger. The schnitzel was a decent size, the beef was about average and thinner than last weeks. The meat was either tough or my cutlery blunt, I had some trouble cutting through my schnitzel. The chips were nice but needed a bit more salt. I have to mention the sauce on it’s own on this occasion though, it was the most luxurious mushroom sauce I can recall on a schnitzel. The mushrooms we

I was generally quite impressed. The Wakefield has always served up pretty decent food and to be honest I thought this was maybe even a little cut above what I was expecting to be dished out to me today. It showed that care had been taken to put together something a little different and also that the ingredients were of a quality stature and not your typical bulk buy second rate variety pub food
