Review Great River Korean Restaurant - Adelaide

Even if the reviews on google are not that good, I still prefer to try them by myself. My experience is not that bad or I might didn't expect much because of the review. But everything is good for me. The KFC is very good, the meat quality as its price. A bit not much variety of food for this price. Some menu have to pay extra some have to pay full.

The cut is too thick for my liking. and less option to choose from. The strong open flame will make it easily to burn before it cooked. The service is ok but make sure you go there early to avoid long wait for food. Fried chicken is good, condiments is good. Not sure if the exhausted fan is working. All in all it is ok if you love meat and easy to please.

We walked past this restaurant, and so never saw the rating on here, it deserves more than 3.3 stars. The buffet (all you can eat) option is the way to go, $39 on a Friday/Saturday night, cheaper through the week. The meat was great, go the Korean rice I think it was, potato salad and whatever else, if you factor in the price for what you get it's well worth coming here. The food came out almost instantly, wait staff were busy and forgot the fried chicken, but they brought it out when we reminded them.

Okay experience, I still don’t get or understand the novelty of going out, paying and cooking your own dinner hahaha 😝 Meat selection was fresh, but IMO, lacked veggies side options, also it would be nice if the cooking grilles were changed regularly as the sauces/marinates burn, and everything either tastes the same or has a char/burnt flavour Service was slow as it was extremely busy Last recommendation is to wear a smoke mask 😷 as it’s like walking into a smoke 💨 house hahaha was hard to breath 😶‍🌫️😵

I have been twice for dinner. Once for date night and one with a big group and in both occasions we didn’t have a problem with food. Yes, meat quality is not amazing but with their “all you can eat” prices what are you expecting? We enjoyed everything that we tried and my favourite were the ribs! And there was plenty of food! Service is average and if the place is busy, you need to call more than twice to get the attention of the waitress. Now, toilets and back area are the let down as they look dirty and unorganised :/

A lovely experience with good menu items. Would love more salad veg options offered. Fresh food and plentiful. The accelerant bottles should come with warning labels we saw heaps of people mistake them for table water and try to drink it. Also check stock levels as some items were sold out which was a bit annoying considering we arrived at open time. Overall good experience.

A few option while on the website said have around 60 choices. Meats too thick and no flavour.

The food in the restaurant is pretty good and also the presentation of the food is amazing. My favorite is the beef ribs. There are good services and also the waiter’s attitude is also satisfied especially the man with the golden hair I like the way his taking it’s respectful and interesting. Will recommend this place to my friends. 🥰🥰🥰

I had booked a table for 6 people last friday to dine in at 9 pm. Upon arrival I was told that the kitchen was closed and they no longer did buffet. I was never informed that the buffet had closed. So I was more than happy to order dishes seperately but they had only half of the things on the menu available. Our table was not even ready upon our arrival and a lot of the tables were not cleared and still had food on it. I find this un acceptable as we had booked prior and was never informed with anything. When I had complained to the waiter, he simply said "don't tell me tell the owner."

Food is great, price is decent. Few meat choices, less entry options, service is done by bell ringing, still with that they are quiet slow. Been back twice in the last 2 weeks, and still find they lack in their service, took them 10 minutes to give us table water.
Other then that, I enjoy the food, but not their service

hadn't been here in years,The owners are Chinese or Taiwanese,so i gather chef's are not Korean,so i don't class it as authenthic Korean food or BBQ,it's a Chinese Korean style BBQ, I had tofu stew ,which was nice, but can eat a much nicer dish,at Korean Restaurant near home, with much tastier flavours. The side dishes were quite good, staff and service was so so...Rice to accompany tofu stew was cold and not high quality rice. friends had various BBQ dishes, which they enjoyed.....

2/3 dishes out of stock, one having to be reminded about,
1 drink ordered never to be told they were out, and having to re order and then remind about the waitress about the re order

Dissapointing to say the least, the only saving factor was the sides which were probabbly store bought.

For the food they hadnt run out of it was good, with an order consisting of 3 dishes and 1 drink our "Waitress" didnt tell us they were out of the beverage ordered so 20 minuites we finally re ordered... only to find out the dish that we ordered she had forgotton to put to kitchen and once she did that they had run out of "Flower"

I used to eat here when it was an all you can eat place. Then it changed owners and although it was still an all you can eat, the new owners would put out barely any food so the meat buffet was always empty. With that sort of business practice the owners probably went bankrupt and it looks like the place has changed hands again. Seeing that it turned into an a la carte menu I gave it another chance.

The place looks beautiful and I had no problems with the service. We went in the middle of winter however, and they kept the doors wide open to stop the smoke filling the place. The end result was that we were all freezing most of the time since we were seated near the doors.

This place uses a mixture of coal and gas to allow you to cook the meat, and the unfortunately result is that you get either under-cooked meat or burnt-to-a-crisp meat. There was just no way to get your meat done well.

I've never had beef ribs sliced so thin before. It was hard to cook and hard to eat. Also, the owners put handfuls of salt and sesame sauce on all of the meat so the meat really didn't taste that good. We were all super thirsty and needed a lot of rice to eat with the meat.

We ordered a vegetable plate, but we were never able to get the vegetables to properly cook, they went from raw to charcoal so we pretty much wasted our money on that.

Out of the 5 of us who went, only 1 of us loved it. Luckily it was the birthday girl; unluckily she got real sick of us spending the whole meal complaining.

Had a great time! Really friendly staff! The food was really fresh and loved the flavours!! Must try the wagu beef and chicken wings 👌🏼 great place to go with friends.. will definitely go back again! 😁

Fresh food, great flavour... must try the angus beef. Also had the squid, not usually a fan of squid but the flavours tasted amazing. Will definately come here again with my friends

In China town I think this restaurant is one of best Korean bbq restaurant. I came there tow days ago. The meat is really fresh. In there we cook by our self. but it is fine

I'm from Sydney and desperately wanted Korean bbq. This is one of the rare ones they have there. I guess this review is a little bias due to my standards from Sydney.

CONS:
Service is absolutely horrible. I have walked passed this place a couple of times and have always been put off by the amount of dirty tables and dishes they have. In Sydney as soon as someone leaves they clean the table asap for the next customer. It just puts me off from eating. Or wanting to eat there.

When we enter in a Sydney kbbq we are greeted by the staff. Here I can see they're fighting over who should greet and serve the customer. Rude much.

No smiles. I don't expect people to be exceptionally happy while working. But the atmosphere was so depressing.

I was appalled by the side dishes offered. They had two side dishes ... what. The. Actual. F***. In Sydney we get at least 6 difference variety of side dishes. My partner and I love side dishes. They really do. Ring the mood up while we wait for the food to come out and to cook. Really shit way to start the meal.

I had to ask 2 times for the rice and another 2 times for our water. And they were only serving us and one other table. Like were they all dropped on the head as a baby that they can't even bring out the simple things ? Water.it was bloody water. That should be offered or given before I walk in.

PROS
The meat was surprisingly good. The fact we cooked it on direct fire was really tasty. But tbh I'd rather go to Big Wang down the road for bbq meat and not have to cook it myself.

The meat came out pretty quick.

CONCLUSION
Would never return and would definitely not return. It's hard to find a perfect restaurant but I left the place absolutely unsatisfied. Needed to find dessert asap to make up for it.

Terrible. Cheap cuts of meat that were really tough. Didn't give us tongs till at end of meal. Really poor service. Filthy toilets at the back. No soap
I haven't been here for a few years but whenever I visit Adelaide I always love to make a booking. A great place to catch up with a larger group of friends and take you time eating self serve style.

I should have read the review before came to this restaurant, service was good but the food was terrible. It's also quite pricy for what they offer. Won't come back again.
Esther Park
I definitely should of seen the reviews before ordering. The waitress was unresponsive, order was slow to receive, not to mention we received the wrong food.

If you're after authentic korean black bean noodles, I'd highly recommend you visit your Asian grocer and buy a 3 minute instant black bean sauce for $2.00 rather than waste $13 plus dollars on inedible food. That's how bad it was.

Visit at your own risk. We're heading off to maccas.

IN SHORT , DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT , YOU WILL BE SWEARING ALL THE WAY HOME . EXTREMLY EXPENSIVE AND HORIBLE SERVICE , WAITERS AND WAITRESS WERE SO SLOW , TAKE TOO LONG FOR FOOD TO COME WITH FEW SLICES OF MEAT AND ONE BOW OF COS LETTUCE . I HAVE TO EAT AGAIN ONCE HOME .

Look if you enjoy being in a over crowded setting and avenge food then this is the place to go. Restaurant looks good but thats where it ends.

DO NOT COME HERE. EVEN IF THEY HAVE RECENTLY RENOVATED AND INTRODUCED NEW MENUS AND MEALS.

The food is average and extremely expensive. Around $19-20 for just a plate of the meat, it goes higher in price. What makes me so regretful in coming here, was that the service was appalling, absolutely horrible. The food took so long to prepare, AROUND HALF AN HOUR. We had to keep ringing the bell about 5 times before someone coming to our table so we can check on the meals. I was not in anyway rude even when the food came late, I was still pleasant and used all manners. We had no bowls and cups so how can we even eat?! So we rang the bell for about the 6th time now, no one comes. I eventually get upset and ask Can we please have cups? The staff has the audacity to come and SLAM down the cups on the table and walk away. So rude and disrespectful, do not come here if you want to be treated like trash like YOURE NOT WELCOME

This Korean BBQ was change a lot. The meat I really nice. The service is good. They help us to cook and make sure we going to the right way.

This is surprise me, I been here many times before, but after few time renovation, this restaurant has been changed. The food is fresh and good taste, charcoal cooke bring me a new view of eating experience. Price may a bit higher than before, but the quality of meat also improved, the wagyu beef looks so nice and tasty. I will add this one to my favorite list and will call my friends come with me next time.

This restaurant is totally changed, now they are a la carte restaurant, the menu looks very nice and simple. It is much better than before and they use charcoal to cook, the taste is amazing. The staff helping us to get a fair meal, and then they cook for us let the meat at a great timing to eat. I tried the chuck steak, scotch fillet and beef ribs, I love this flavor and the price is fine. In my mind, this one could be the best Korean BBQ in Adelaide, definitely will go back again !!

We have been going to this place for several years now, and I must seriously say it has gone down hill. The place is filthy. The floor is covered in grease and food and your shoes stick to it. The ladies bathroom is dirty, and out of paper. The Bain Marie's with the hot food it them were cold allowing the pre cooked to slip below the safe serving temperature. The cold /raw food was in a open front fridge right by the door, which was permanently propped open. This allowed access for flies which were seen landing on the food at times. Staff were slow to replenish food in these fridges to slow down / limit the amount people were eating. The staff were grumpy and unhelpful. All in all a very disappointing dining experience, and not cheap either. Now not worth dining there.

Love it. They have a big change. many hot food can choose. price still good

Sure is great, but there was no river. My boyfriend and I came here tonight to celebrate our anniversary with some grilled meat. The night started off well because we both managed to find a park right outside the restaurant, we only had to pay for half an hour of parking until the clock stroke six, then it was free, I felt pretty proud I found this park. I admit, we were there pretty early, we were the first ones there, but we didn't care. We got straight into it, we each got ourselves a plate of entree - I got a couple of samosas, sushi rolls, a piece of watermelon and some prawn crackers. My boyfriend went for the classic special friend rice, honey chicken and some spring rolls with some sweet chili sauce. I felt happy that he has a good spring roll experience because the other day when he came over my house I made him some spring rolls but unfortunately I didn't have any sweet chili sauce so I gave him some what I thought was normal soy sauce not realising it was a soy marinade. He didn't enjoy that very much, he said it tasted like chemicals.I felt bad but we managed to move past this. Anyways, we got some meat including little sausages (my favourites), pork, beef and chilli chicken. The sausages were yummy as, I ate 4 and a half of them. They were nice and salty. My boyfriend liked the pork. He was doing most of the grilling, he likes doing that but at one point he said to me 'hey are you gonna do any grilling' so I lent a hand. We got full pretty but I got myself a plate of prawn crackers at the end even though I was full, those things are the best. We didn't get any ice-cream even though we knew there was some available because we've been here before. It's your typical no frills ice-cream. It's literally just a tub of like home brand vanilla ice cream that you scoop out of the tub yourself. It's not like anything I had ever encountered before at a restaurant but I like the simplicity of the 'help yourself to ice cream you can get at woolies but in a restaurant environment' vibe, I like feeling at home when I'm out. In conclusion- weird name, apparently not actually Korean, I don't really care food, is food. Have to go upstairs to use toilet. There is a hand dryer

Worst 'Korean' Bbq ever.. I cannot believe they even call themselves a "Korean" bbq when the only authentic Korean food were their side dishes (commercially bought). The meat was terrible and salty and not even correctly marinated to be Korean. Being a Korean person living away from home this whole restaurant was extremely disappointing and rather offensive. I went there 30 mins after it had opened and there was actually no pork or beef to choose from. There was also no rice and half the salad looked like it had been there from the previous night. The staff were friendly but did little apart from try to change your grill plate too often. If you are actually looking to try a Korean restaurant DO NOT TRY THIS PLACE. I could not even call this place Chinese and it is definitely not Korean. There is very little to eat here and tastes terrible.

Been here so many times! It's the only place I'll for "Korean BBQ" although it's owned by Chinese owners, it's more worth it here than if you were to go to a proper Korean BBQ restaurant where you would pay $15+ for a plate of meat. Although it'll most likely be better quality which I'll admit, but most likely it won't fulfil you where most people dine out to have a good feed and obviously to be full when leaving a restaurant. The buffet has a good variety of different type of meats, seafood, salads, vegetables and a few variety of hot foods. I do recommend for new diners of the restaurant that it would be best to come in when they open because you won't notice the smoke from the grills too much. Whereas if you were to come a couple hours later after open, the scent of the smoke might affect you if you're sensitive to the smell. Which was what happened to me the very first time I went here and got put off. But I am very used to it now. Anywho, the waiters/waitresses are nice, they can be a bit hard to make eye contact with but I don't blame them since they have to run around the restaurant changing the grills when it's charred and topping up meats, etc. BUT, overall, I think it is worth a try! Good value for money! :)

Disappointing does not even cut it...

The buffet was minimal in regards to variety and quantity. The Great Korean BBQ promotes themselves as an all you can eat establishment but that can be difficult when the staff aren't refilling the buffet. If you manage to get some morsel of food on your plate, it has no freshness whatsoever. the sauces were diluted with water and the only dessert available was Coles brand vanilla ice cream.

Stingy establishment, overpriced, not authentic ... List could go on

Can't remember the last time I had a meal this bad........ Better to stay home and save the $$$$$$ ....
Ya Ma
It's the best BBQ in Adelai.... It's the best BBQ in
Adelaide.

Waitresses are not friendly. Customers have to skip their turn to walk because waitresses were passing too fast.

Disappointed. From passing the Great River Korean BBQ it looked interesting and fun place for a meal out.
I was sadly disappointed as it was more hard work for mediocre food than fun or interesting....
There is a exhaust fan in the middle of the table so you are unable to properly see the person across from you which makes conversation awkward. The exhust was not working well so for the whole time we cooked we were covered in smoke.
The buffet is sparse and not topped up on a regular basis - more like first in gets to eat!! We were there for nearly 2 hours and the beef was brought out once and then not topped up, same for the sushi, many vegetables and the steamed rice. There were also no plain options for the meats so no chance to mix your own seasoning. The only dessert on offer was Coles brand ice cream.
Would we go back - no.
Would we recommend this - no
JJ
Disappointed!. Went there on Wednesday. The shop supposed to close at 10pm, but the waitress already trying to clean up at 915pm. It was Buffett but not much choice of food.

I won't be back!
Rosemary
Not good.. Limited selection, questionable freshness, Sad looking hot chips & spring rolls.. The service was not good either - they started packing up and switching lights off at 9pm, when we had an 8pm reservation. All up a pretty dodgy experience. There are plenty of better dining options on Gouger.
Jason
Good meal on Gouger st. Very nice food, fresh meat, its my second time in this restaurant!
Mary
Good place on Gouger st. Hwaro seems to be the only decent KOREAN BBQ place, let alone a korean restaurant.hot date, great food, best night.
If you want to complain about prices, go to KFC.
i refuse to listen to uneducated non-asian people criticize about asian restaurants being non-authentic with nothing decent to back up.
My personal opinion. these guys are the best KBBQ place at the moment,
Jma
Terrible food (they claim it to be fresh but it comes out frozen), terrible service for a terrible price.

Look up!!!!!!!. Warning - Do not sit under the disgustingly dirty ceiling air vents as you are likely to have globules of fat drop on your head, or plate! This happened to me, and when I told a staff member I was told to move to another seat!
However, this was a different experience for us and we enjoyed selecting and cooking our own food. I thought the selection was quite good. They do need to replace the grill plates with non stick (as the video in the window displays) as it is annoying when you have neatly arranged your meat and know who's is who's and then they come along and change your plate, sliding everything in to a heap for you to rearrange! I think it would be very hard to eat $26 worth of meat due to the quality and thickness, but you could try.The staff do their job but are not friendly and you will leave stinking of smoke and fat.

Famous BBQ Restaurant on Gouger. Very nice!! will back again
Little Red-Haired Girl
Not my sort of thing.. I was a bit disappointed with my experience here. I found most of the meat options very fatty and too extreme for me. I was hoping for some more plain meat options which I could season myself.

The hood on the table was also in a very awkward spot which meant that I could not see the person sitting diagonally across from me.

I also found the service so-so. It was our first visit there and we weren't sure of the process or cost. I thought it would have been nice to be given a bit of an introduction to the restaurant. I can't see myself going back.

Generous servings. Very yummy. Service was attentive. Food was so so so delicious. very nice restaurant. very like it, will back!!!!!

Very nice restaurant. We had good experience in this restaurant!

My partner & I went back there recently, even though being pretty disappointed the 1st time. Happy to say that the food seems to be fresher (as well as now being fully thawed out) and the cuts are decent not the shreds we had last time. They've upgraded their hot plates (lasts a lot longer before having to change) & they've put a little more variety in to the buffet. Looks like they're finally on their way up!!

Fun experience. You can't beat the fun dining experience here. Choosing your raw foods and cooking at your table is a blast. A family friendly place - our children aged from 13 to 19 enjoyed the unique dining adventure. Lots of choices. The service isn't 5 star but hey it's a do it yourself opportunity. We'll be back...

Well at first i was sceptical as i really dislike the notion of cooking my own food like those stone grill places, although i was gladly suprised. The food was amazingly tasty and the atmosphere was suprisingly chilled. Do be prepared to get a little messy although when you a bbq plate is on your table what do you expect. It does seem a little expensive at first glance but if your looking to have a bit of fun and not worried about deciding from the range of meats then you will enjoy it as well. Maybe not such a great place for vegos although if you took one look inside the place you would have never made that choice. Good stuff .
Karl Star
Good experience. This place is great for all you can eat meat and salad. Big variety of both, cook it the way you like it. If you got a bit of time up your sleeve its awesome working your way through every variety of meat they have while enjoying a few beers. The down side is that although they have the extraction fans, the place can get a bit smokey and make your clothes smell of it.
Daruma
New Idea. I think, this is a great place, they brought new ideas in. although they have been here for long time, but they have manage to get their target customers. and they have done well.
however, its not really my kind of things. most of the meats are marinated, i have no confident with what they are offering.
Famished
Average at best. I like the idea of controlling how much or little your food is cooked, however the quality of meat here was terrible. When you have a tiny piece of chicken or lamb that is 3/4 fat, it's a turn off. The only thing that looked semi appealing to me was the octopus, but even that was bland without any tasty sauce or spices to spruce it up. In summary: great idea, poor execution.
Dolce
FOOD IS GOOD, restaurant and service meh. I honestly don't think I ate my way through what I paid, but I sure tried. LOTS AND LOTS OF MEAT GUARANTEED.
Flavours are pretty good. Cooking doesn't take long (maybe 10 minutes). It's good if you go with 2 and sit at the side tables, then you get a whole pan to yourselves.

I was disappointed to see that certain people were very pushy. They took the entire platter rather than 1 piece for themselves. I just waited for the next time it came out.

Also get here on time or get out! Haha we arrived 5 minutes late (no exaggeration) and they called twice by then.

Some of that, some of this... On first impressions, Great River and its modular furniture and decor looks a bit like an RSL Club. However, grab a group of friends and you'll soon be giggling, fighting over space and getting a reddened forehead from cooking on your own grill in the middle of the table.
There are a wide variety of things to choose from and cook from the buffet - and all for a set price of all you can eat (and be sure not to waste) for $26 dollars. My favourite is the oyster blade steak which has a nice spice to it.
If you're not into cooking your own, there is fried rice, spring rolls, sushi and soup to tempt you.
The only disappointments I have ever had is that when the rice gets eaten it does not get replenished for quite awhile, they don't often accept table bookings for one, and the drinks are sometimes warm. However, I highly recommend it as a great place for gatherings. It's fun, the restaurant is very clean and the staff regularly come along and change your grill plate. They are also very patient and helpful when dividing bills and options to pay include EFTPOS.

Korean BBQ Tables That’s right, it was empty. Surprisingly, they have a reasonably long wine list, full of fairly cheap options that suit the feel and style of the place perfectly. A word of advice for what is to come: Great River Korean BBQ is an “all you can eat” place; with the
