Review Straits Cafe - Adelaide

Kym and Shane Vasile at Acton Victoria Park
Quite simply, the most flavoursome food we have eaten in memory. Delivered by a passionate team of knowledge staff, the experience was amazing. Sweet/sour lamb shoulder and the banana blossom shredded chicken were perfect. Wine list well priced to.

Very flavoursome food with excellent, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The kingfish, fried tofu and pork belly were well executed! The wine list were fairly priced. Thanks for the memorable night.

Book in if you haven't already. I can't believe I waited so long to go here. The food was awesome the service was great and the price was really reasonable. Between the 4 of us we got 3 small dishes and 2 mains (and 1 dessert to share) add 2 bottles of wine ($75 each) and it was still only about $80 per person.

Fantastic food! Absolutely fantastic. Three of us got 1 "smaller" dish [eggplant and okra], 1 larger dish [lamb shoulder] and a dessert [chocolate gelato] and it ended up being about $30pp and we were bursting at the seams. Every single dish was brilliant in taste and presentation. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice and the service is also wonderful. Will definitely be coming back to try the other dishes!!

Good food and atmosphere. All the food was delicious. Our only complaint was that the pork belly dish we ordered had very similar salad and flavour profile to the shredded chicken, not a huge problem as we loved the flavours, but I imagine this could frustrate people looking for some variety across the meal.

The food was exceptional! Best food we've had so far in Adelaide!!! From the first bite my eyes just lit up with the amazing combination of flavours. It really did satisfy my pallet. I went with my husband at short notice they fit us in, the service was second to none, large portions and quick service. We had the king prawns, braised lamb shoulder and peanut butter parfait desert. Highly recommend this place for locals and everyone visiting Adelaide, it's an absolute must!!!

If I have one take away from this restaurant, it’s texture, texture, texture! Thoughtful plates bursting with flavour in a chill, laid back environment (think: exposed brick and stone, open concept). It is hipster with a fresh imaginative menu and young staff. The height they get on their plates is impressive and eye catching. Wonderful plating as well with tons of colour and texture. Incredibly busy- got a last minute res at the bar at 830 for two. The resto was full when we walked in and by the time we left so make sure to book a res!

We came to Adelaide for a long weekend to experience the food and wine on offer and Peel St was our first port of call on a Friday lunchtime. I had made a booking to ensure we didn't miss out. We requested a feed-me style meal as we couldn't decide what we fancied, and were offered 5 courses of deliciousness (and a 6th - dessert - which we had to take home with us) for $75 each. The portion sizes were big! (maybe a little too large - we were very hungry but still couldn't finish everything!) and although the flavours / style of the dishes were a little "samey" - think corinader, thai-style marinades and seasonings, each dish was very well executed, fresh and balanced. There was enough protein on the plates for us both to feel like it was bang for your buck, and plenty of veggies for balance. The second course (rainbow trout sashimi) was outstanding. The third course, the banana flower chicken dish(?) was nice but I felt the chicken was a little underwhelming in taste compared to the other dishes and the portion was far too large (not often I complain about that but I don't like food waste!). The peanut butter parfait we took home with us was to-die-for! The service was incredible, we were very well looked after from start to finish and didn't need to wait long for drinks or dishes to arrive. We left a tip for this reason. The restaurant was jam-packed full by the time we left at 2pm. Although quite expensive for a "lunch", it was well worth it and I'm sure that everything on the regular menu would have been worth a try too. Would definitely visit again.
