We like this place as the food is tasty, quick, affordable prices and convenient location. We also will order takeaway for a weeknight meal when we are too busy to cook. Nice Chinese restaurant
Really tasty Yum Cha!! Came here 2day with a group o gals and boy did we eat! Had pork buns for the 1st time- alot of bread but so sweet and tasty, steamed pork dimsims were yummy, tofu rolls were great with chilli oil, but the steamed prawn dumpling were to die for! Deelish chrysanthemum tea too and excellent value for money. Service, though very minimal communication, was very efficient. :)
I am a frequent visitor to Yum Cha restaurants in Gouger Street so when I was told that the Payneham Chinese Restaurant offer yum cha, I was curious. It's is out on its own in a small shopping center.
The decor wasn't impressive but this would be an indication they are more interested in the food. Good Asian restaurants are usually like this. Keep prices down, keep food authentic and the people will return.
The yum cha menu had the usual suspects on offer but instead of buying from a trolley, we ordered from a menu. I think this was due to us getting there early. Luckily we know what we like and just went crazy. The food came out pretty quickly so we were finished within the hour. By the time we left, large groups were coming in. There were people turned away too who had not made bookings since it was so busy.
So I recommend you book to be on the safe side
On a whim we decided on trying the Payneham Chinese Restaurant at 307 Payneham Road, Royston Park. Having never been here before and going on Zomato reviews we decided to give it go. The decor is basic which is fine as it was our goal to have good Chinese food. We arrived early and there were only a few people dining but within the hour the place filled up with large tables of Asian families - this is always a good sign! There was a nice hustle and bustle of people talking and dining comfortably which shows that food can always bring families together.....
The best yum cha in Adelaide for sure. Everything is fresh & delicious. My family has a Cantonese/HK background and it is their favourite restaurant. We find the service efficient and generally friendly (whether I'm with family or Australian friends). I love their siu mai and har gow, the two yum cha staples :) They do great noodle dishes and this is also our go-to restaurant for dinner. Food is always fresh, notably their fish is excellent whether whole steamed or fried in sweet corn sauce. Prices are reasonable and we have never been disappointed, even when it has been very busy. Definitely book if you want to have yum cha here on a weekend. It is a basic set up but it is always clean. Real Chinese restaurants never have fancy decor and if they do, you have to pay for it! Overall, our favourite Chinese restaurant in Adelaide.
Excellent dumplings, great sticky rice. Overall very good food
I've had yum Cha here a few times now. The food is consistently good, however the service is touch and go. The first two times I came here it was busy and the waiting staff seemed to be more on the ball and helpful. Today it was quiet and the staff seemed to be in dreamland. Several times we asked for soy sauce, being brought chilli twice before we gave up. My dad wasn't given a bowl (there were only two of us to look after!) and the service was unfriendly. They seemed to give all their attention to the adjacent table of Chinese patrons. They don't offer sparkling wine by the glass so it was water for me, but I'm okay with that. All in all it's average. Clean surroundings with good food. I go to yum Cha for the food because the service is a lot to be desired! FYI payneham Chinese staff, it wouldn't kill you to smile or at least pretend to like your customers!
Great takeaway. Only ever tried their take away. Been meaning dine in one night. Never been disappointed. Always very fresh and the meat always tender.
Dumplings are fresh and plump. Best yum cha in adelaide. Always enjoy the food here. Love the pork and chive dumplings
Some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten...If it's full of Chinese patrons then it must be an indication of how good the food is.
Takeaway dinner
just as good, very delicious & fresh, punctual. Quality similar to dine in, now covid government rules forbid dine in. Now it take home your usual favourites & enjoy just like we did tonight. We had a feast of really delicious food at home, no different to the many times we dine in there as far as quality is concerned.
You don’t have to deny yourself of the past so many dinners you had here with your guests because of the present government covid restrictions. Now its enjoy it in the comfort of your home, enjoy.....the many delicious favourites you are used to....even in these covid times.
Best ring up, the more notice the better, or a day before any one or for special occasions or a big order for many hungry stomachs.
Lunch Tim sum
We always have the best takeaway tim sum lunch. Quality, flavour & taste one of the best locally. Not a big range but what they do they do it really well. Still warm when we get home down the road. As chinese we eat tim sum often, & u cant b wrong here. Enjoy.
Best ring up & order, if a day before better still especially for a special lunch or for a big family.
My first time dining here. It's always a good sign when on a Monday night the Restaurant is near full & most diners are Asian. Excellent friendly service, very fresh & authentic dishes at reasonable prices in humble surroundings. I can genuinely recommend this establishment & shall certainly be returning again.
The yum cha here is fantastic, tastes great and is fresh. I like that it's made to order rather than the trolley so you always get it hot.
The staff are polite and the service is good, and there's plenty of space. Keep up the good work guys!
I go here for the yum cha. Has most of the standard selections you'd want. Seating is not as squashy as the city places, and because they're not looking to do two or three seatings you don't feel rushed or get given daggers if you're not inhaling your food. Quality is as good if not better than the city places, since this is the same group that ran Gouger palace all those years ago
