Review Hong Fat Bbq Restaurant - Adelaide

First and last visit to this place. Visited on a rather warm day and there was no fan or A/C running, table beside us was also sweating (only one other person in the shop). Food lacked taste, but portion was definitely big. Cleanliness was not the best and staff was little unfriendly. When I asked for a spoon, was handed a teaspoon to eat and when I asked for a normal spoon, was told just use the teaspoon rather rudely. Portion: 8/10 Service : 1/10 Cleanliness: 2/10 Atmosphere: 1/10

Had roast combination meat with rice. Roast pork could use a bit more crunchiness but flavours were really good. Cozy atmosphere for dine in, wide variety of items on their menu to satisfy your cravings. A little bit more vegetables could be nice as well with the roast meat on rice. Overall great value for money!

It’s been about 14 years since we’ve been back here and eaten, have had lunch here 2 days in a row. Just like it use to be, same taste same great value. We love their BBQ Pork Omlette and today had their Mongolian Beef, Deep Fried Fish Fillet in Sweet Corn Sauce and Stir Fry Chicken with vegetables. All were delicious, and on both days staff were beautiful. Thank you for still serving the same great food! 😋💕

I think this is the best roast duck in Adelaide - while service is always a bit hmmmm

Very busy during the evening but great food

Great Asian restaurant, the price and taste is really good. You can find the authetic asian wok dishes here.

pretty good looking but the food is old, taste like expried. However, you’ll get a huge meal here.

Food quality is on and off. Sometimes I get a very good duck sometimes not. But when the food is on point it tastes amazing. The guy taking orders apparently keep getting it wrong. So always double check your orders before you pay.

Low quality food at a cheap price. And it's not even worth the money. Not a person who like to leave leftovers but I just can't finish the food here

Simple, no frills, unpretentious. Even though the decor and ambience are lacking the food does make up for it. Haven't tried every dish but the dish that I can highly recommend are the roast duck and roast pork with rice. Both dishes are extremely cheap just under $11.00 and both excrete masses of flavour. The roast duck is absolutely gorgeous, fatty, crispy, skin and underneath that heavenly skin is tender, juicy duck meat. The roast pork also has a thick, crispy skin with juicy, tender pork meat. Both dishes served with a bed of rice which is placed on some kind of dripping sauce or leftover meat sauce and about 3-4 stir fried vegetables. Other dishes I can recommend is the sweet and sour stir fried pork and braised beef noodles

Feeling like some greasy Chinese BBQ on a Friday night, we went to Hong Fat for some comfort food.

Expect the classic Chinese diner experience, and go just to fill your bellies. If you don't have expectations for any ambience, the food is quite serviceable.

We ordered the soya chicken and roast pork belly, with a side of vegetables and rice. The flavouring was acceptable, and the pork was nice and crispy. The chicken had some very unexpected bones in it, and caused a bit of occlusal trauma.

The meal was very affordable, and as long as you're careful about picking out bone fragments from your chicken, you will have an enjoyable meal.

Been coming back for many years a good cheap Asian eatery very simple decor hasn't changed over the years. What you see is what you get and your greeted with roasted meats hanging you know you will be fed well!

Hong Fat BBQ is well known for its Chinese roast meats - chicken, duck and pork all hang from the window enticing you in with tender meat and crispy skin. On this occasion we ordered a plate of the crispy pork and duck on noodle and were presented with a generous serve. We also had a chicken and eggplant hotpot which was really delicious - nice chunks of eggplant. This is a basic restaurant that focuses on good, affordable food.

Absolutely woeful. Roast meats on noodles - hard to stuff up, right? Somehow they made it utterly inedible. I can't recommend avoiding this place more strongly. Embarrassing.

What a disgrace. Used to be so great. The food is inedible. We ordered a simple rice and noodle dish - not much could go wrong - except that both dishes were worse than your worst food court experience. The staff couldn't give less of a stuff if they tried. Disgusting!

Disgusting looked so dirty inside staff were rude and we were made to feel like we were intruders. Food was well below par it's a shame due to this being my favourite child hood rat out haven't been back for years until yesterday. Had duck which was mainly bones with rice. Staff were all rude sitting around on their phones it was quite frustrating to sit in there never going back ever again I was scared I was going to end up with food poisoning

This is the first restaurant I've been to where a staff member has laid hands on me and gotten physical over me asking for more napkins which was very rude. They also mop the floors while people are eating which is dangerous.

Unauthentic and loaded with sugar. Used to be one of our favourites until they changed chefs several years ago. We have given it many "second chances" and haven't had a good experience since the changeover. We really wanted it to be good. *sad face*

It's a bit grungy and the idea of a smiling waitress is clearly one that hasn't ever quite taken root, but the food is tasty and generous and the barbecue meat is pretty damn good.

Some of the dishes are a bit hit and miss, but when they're good, they're very good indeed.

Their duck is a thing of beauty and their barbecue pork - red, sticky and gorgeous - is great.

Quick, cheap, tasty - slightly down at heel but worth visiting and taking a chance.

Sanitary Issues and Poor Customer Relation - I will Never go back!. The person in-charge of chopping suckling pig and roast duck do not wear gloves. The place is dirty. Food servers and cashiers are rude. They don't even know how to say "You're welcome" or even smile when you say "Thank You".

The Best value for money Asian.. I have been going there for years. It is the best value for money Asian Unlicensed Restaurant in Adelaide. Large serves, the food is consistent.

TERRIFIC VALUE FOR MONEY. Dined there last night and was pleasantly surprised with their prices and food. Not a fancy looking restaurant and who cares when you get good food!!

Good grease.. This is a great little place for a cheap take away meal. Looks pretty crammy and out-daed inside hence my suggestion for the take away option over dining in. Good service, have never waited more than 10 minutes for my order, and most dishes are under $10. Thanks Hong Fat, I'll be back!
Smiffy
Hmmmmph. Returning to Hong Fat after an absence should have been a joy. First some smirking laughing chef kept eyeballing me and talking, I was the only one in his field of vision, and when the combination stir-fry with rice arrived I was ready to eat.

It was a large bowl of stir-fried veg in a 'brown gelatinous sauce with the temperature of lava. The squid was chewy and had a texture like rubber, especially the inner membrane. The chicken was flavourless and insipid, corn floured like the sauce.

What really disappointed though, was the rice, beneath the stir-fry.

It was like a congee, a porridge of rice with no texture that was unpalateable.

I asked if they had changed chefs, yes was the answer.

I spoke about the rice, and was told sometimes the rice can be like that , it depends where it comes from.

millenia of history vaporised like the rice. Skip it.

Super yum. Do not be fooled by this unassuming restaurant. The food is tasty and the servings are quite generous for the price you pay. Food also comes out quite quick. Great place to go for a cheap, quick, and tasty bite.

Upon entering the place, I must say I have my own reservation. The place looks rather..... not clean. Oh and we were greeted by a lady shouting at the chef (I think it has something to do with letting the chef know that we arrived or something).

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed even though it was a full house. My dish cost me $9 which I thought was fair value. This place wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t great either.
I recommend Hong Fat BBQ Restaurant. It’s a great option for low-key dining that’s a step up from home cooked but a solid, cheap option for restaurant fare.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
First of all I should admit to a slight prejudice. I lurve good Hong Kong style bbq meats. Pork, chicken, duck, goose (which you rarely see here), it's all good. And when you see BBQ in the name of a Hong Kong style restaurant it's a pretty good sign that the bbq meats are what you want to order. That was pretty much our experience at Hong Fat - the greater the proportion of bbq meats in the dish the better the dish. Hong Fat is simple in set up and moderately busy when we visited, with around half the tables in use. It's got the typical dishes with photos pinned to the wall, generic brown tables and chairs and the usual suspect condiments on every table. Fairly typical for a low end Chinese Restaurant in the city really. Being fairly hungry we ordered three of my favourite dishes to share between two. One, unfortunately, wasn't really up to speed. This was the beef tendon hot pot, which was small and greatly lacking in the beef tendon which I like so much. Guess I should have
