The food here is excellent although there was a fair wait time. Would especially recommend their honey chicken, which was lovely and crispy even after sitting for a while. Salt and pepper soft shell crab was also delicious (a dish which I find can be hit and miss).
Winter often calls for meals that warm the soul, something hot and steamy that takes the chill away. For us it’s a hearty stew or my personal all time favourite – Hotpot. This dish comes with many names like shabu shabu, steamboat or jeongol. Each a variation from different Asian countries but the principle of it is the same. Some lovely fresh ingredients, good stock and a pot is all you really need a for a long social and fun meal. I remember our student days where almost all gatherings were hotpot feasts. We spent the night slowly cooking what we wanted to eat, catching up with everyone and having plenty of laughs. It’s one of the most social meals one can have so when Golden Dragon Palace Seafood Restaurant got in touch with us to come in and try their winter special Deluxe Dragon Hotpot we did not hesitate.
Hidden among a throng of restaurants in Hutt Street, Golden Dragon Seafood Palace offers genuinely authentic Cantonese cuisine. With beautiful fresh produce and seafood, and a deft touch for combining flavours in traditional yet creative dishes; Golden Dragon provides a wonderful dining experience. We began with a starter of Drunken Chicken. Served chilled, the chicken was steamed, moist and cut into bite sized pieces. It was marinated and served in an alcohol based sauce which was lightly spiced and sprinkled with goji berries, adding a sweet berry aftertaste to the dish.
