Review Golden Dragon Palace - Adelaide

Ordered for lunch delivery, I believe myself have a good patient. Had a remind call after one hour, the answered was all dishes are done and is delivering but there is one dish from order run out. Why didn't call me back and notice me that one order ran out earlier? And it's still not delivered with another 45 min. Been waiting for my delivery order for almost 2 hours And all food is not warm. Disappointed

We ordered Peking Duck and it was good at the beginning. After finishing the pancake, we wanted an extra 1 or 2 slices but the staff didn't told us that it was one serve of pancake and we had to pay for it (we didn't mind) but at least we won't waste so much pancakes. Then we ordered Seafood Tofu which taste blunt, and have almost no seafood in it. We also ordered salted egg with prawns and it doesn't taste like salted egg, and the prawn wasn't even crispy. Staff wasn't friendly, I just want to ask for table water but I see no staff anywhere around, the staff was no where to be seen. It was a very bad experience.

I came along with my mum and my little boy thanks to a Scoopon ad. The food was hot and delicious. I think the dumplings were frozen but were tasty none the less. I found some of the food to be slightly oversalted, but that could be just me as I don't often eat salt at home. Friendly service and table water was just fine. Really nice experiences both times :)

As it was my first time eating yum cha at this restaurant with my partner, i was not impressed. Service was appaling and the bowls were dirty. I ordered a glass of ice to go along with my drink, to find that even the ice had something in it. The food tasted average and took too long to come out. After waiting for an hour, we paid for half the meal that we received and left. Not returning ever again.

Dishes vary in quality, with some quite nice to others average. Way to much onion used in a lot of wok fried dishes, and dumplings just the frozen variety (but still nice). Restaurant presentation is comfy but little messy and a lot of stuff left unfixed... pictures here not up to date. A little disappointed for the location.

Very ordinary. Advertised as a 6 course Peking Duck Banquet valued at $95.80. Consisted of 3 cheap spring rolls, 2 San choy bow (duck meat??)more like mince meat. 6 dry duck pancakes, plate of vegetables and a plate of fried rice. Very small ice-cream to finish. 2 glasses of cheap white wine offered but not accepted. No water offered and service extremely lacking. I think the Peking duck ducked out for the night. Not recommended.

It wasn't poison because they wouldn't have bothered to go to the effort the effort of making poison. Ordered duck and pancakes, the pancakes were heated in an unopened packet from the supermarket and accidentally consuming duck bones did not significantly change the eating experience. The honey chicken was worse than buffet fair at nearly three times the price. And the crocodile something consisted more of ginger than anything else. The best part was the red bean filling in the dessert pancakes witch means they probably bought it from somewhere else and resold it.

bbllaaahhhh I like Chinese food but today had the special fried rice and the beef with black bean sauce. bllleeehhhh not that great. Fried rice was soaked in oil and soggy and ingredients just didn't taste fresh. I ate it because I was hungry but didn't enjoy it. Was disappointed as it cost nearly 30 dollars. I don't know what I was eating really? I pulled out some fatty bits.. put me off... The beef tasted like gravy and was very soft. No flavour of beef? Was it beef I wonder? Sorry guys I would not come back. blleeehhhhhhh :( waste of money.
Foodmousy
Would even rate it as 0 if there is an option. Tried this restaurant tonight with a voucher that bought online. Treated unfairly with much smaller portion dishes and the food all taste horribly just like those in food court's asian food stall. The food pictures on the menu are far different than the actual food been served. Not understand the reason behind of having the discount voucher to destroy their reputation and forcing the customer not to return. I'll never return and won't not recommend this restaurant to anyone and certainly not to waste the money buying online voucher!

The food here is excellent although there was a fair wait time. Would especially recommend their honey chicken, which was lovely and crispy even after sitting for a while. Salt and pepper soft shell crab was also delicious (a dish which I find can be hit and miss).

Let's say that we WON'T be back. Went here during Chinese New Year weekend for my mums birthday and what an absolute joke of a restaurant. First of all, we booked a highchair for my 9 month old son and got some sort of "high" chair that didn't have any sort of seat belt harness to stop him from slipping through the chair whereas other patrons received the IKEA style highchair so we had to hold him the entire meal. They told us that they only had 3 of those IKEA style high chairs, which is ridiculous considering how big the restaurant is. I saw about 6 tables of about 10 people so restaurant wasn't that busy. Despite it not being a full house, we waited so long for half of our meals to come out. We pretty much finished the first half before the second half came out. They were also stingy on drinking glasses, gave us only water glasses and assumed we'd use them for our jug of soft drink so we HAD to ask for extra glasses and then the waitress wanted to take some back. Then to top off our night, we wanted to use our Entertainment vouchers and told by the waitress that we couldn't because it's Chinese New Year but the conditions in the Entertainment book don't specify that we can't use the vouchers on Chinese New Year. So they went to ask someone else and told yes we can use it but we could only use 1 voucher even though we were entitled to use 2 vouchers because we had more than 4 people on our table. The food was edible but not the greatest. Didn't enjoy the food as much because it didn't come out in a timely manner, plus all the other factors involved.

For our wedding anniversary, what a better way to spend our Christmas gift of a voucher for two with wine. We were looking forward to the evening but were very disappointed as the restaurant claims to be a seafood restaurant, but apart from a minuscule shrimp in one dish, we didn't find any seafood. Duck too was in diet proportions as were most courses. Main course? Was it the very tasty and fresh vegetables, or the stir fried rice that supposedly had some duck in it? We live locally and could have persuaded quite a few friends and neighbours to make it one of their locals but sadly we won't. We'd really like to give our daughter back her hard earned and well intended money, so too I think would the other two couples also having the same Living Social deal.

Winter often calls for meals that warm the soul, something hot and steamy that takes the chill away. For us it’s a hearty stew or my personal all time favourite – Hotpot. This dish comes with many names like shabu shabu, steamboat or jeongol. Each a variation from different Asian countries but the principle of it is the same. Some lovely fresh ingredients, good stock and a pot is all you really need a for a long social and fun meal. I remember our student days where almost all gatherings were hotpot feasts. We spent the night slowly cooking what we wanted to eat, catching up with everyone and having plenty of laughs. It’s one of the most social meals one can have so when Golden Dragon Palace Seafood Restaurant got in touch with us to come in and try their winter special Deluxe Dragon Hotpot we did not hesitate.

Hidden among a throng of restaurants in Hutt Street, Golden Dragon Seafood Palace offers genuinely authentic Cantonese cuisine. With beautiful fresh produce and seafood, and a deft touch for combining flavours in traditional yet creative dishes; Golden Dragon provides a wonderful dining experience. We began with a starter of Drunken Chicken. Served chilled, the chicken was steamed, moist and cut into bite sized pieces. It was marinated and served in an alcohol based sauce which was lightly spiced and sprinkled with goji berries, adding a sweet berry aftertaste to the dish.

Went for Yum Cha, but many of the items were unavailable due to the chef being away, so this is a difficult one to rate at this point in time. However, the smoked duck and pork hock were good.

Brighton Beau and I first stumbled upon this Restaurant after leaving the V8 car racing and looking for a meal. We were pleasantly delighted on this occasion. Good food at a reasonable price. So when we saw an on-line voucher for yum cha at this restaurant, we snapped it up.But oh dear! what a disappointment the second time round. We walked in, and just stood at the counter for what must have easily been 10 minutes without being acknowledged, whilst the female Asian staff member attended to another person. In her own time, the sour-faced waitress took us to a table and disappeared. Some time later she re-appeared with a menu, dropped it on the table, then left again. We waited some time again before we spotted a male staff member and called him over to take our order. It wasn't actually an order, because we had bought a set menu yum cha, but we were able to tell him that we were ready to eat. More time passed before sour face plonked our food in front of us. The food was pleasant, albeit not what we would consider 'bargain' priced as promoted in the voucher, however, we won't remember the food, just the appalling - and I do mean absolutely appalling - service. Several Asian male waiters appeared at various times, and at one point there were more waiters than customers, but that didn't make the service any better or friendlier for non-Chinese diners. An older Chinese man spent much time loudly chatting and joking to Chinese diners whilst completely ignoring the rest of us non-Chinese customers. Not what I would call good public relations. It seems that non-Chinese are not welcome at the Golden Dragon Palace Restaurant. We won't be back again.

Great Chinese Food! It took me a while to finally try this place as I thought it might just be another run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant. It’s not, and since that first time, I’ve been going back – I need my regular fix! The menu is full of really interesting dishes, and dishes that are right up my alley! Two of my favourites are the Braised Dried Scallops with Enoki Mushrooms and Vegetables, and the magnificent Shark Lip and Duck Feet Hot Pot. If the sound of those scare you, don’t worry – there are also a number of more mainstream dishes. The fried rice, which is always a good test of a good Chinese restaurant, is excellent, as is the combination chow mein (crispy noodles). This night we tried all new things.

Banquet is a must. My friends and I love coming here for the banquet...so much food and great value for the price!!

Won't go back. Please be aware if you want to use your entertainment card or discount vouchers, you will be their hate customer. And the waitress with glasses will let you know too!!
I don't understand if they don't like to give discount why offer them on the advertiser or entertainment book. False advertising should be reported. What an unpleasant dining experience with them. Never going to go back.

-----01 Nov, 2014-----

Rude rude waitress. We went there for my birthday celebration. We ordered what we wanted, the head waitress ( woman with glasses) asked me to order live fish which is going to cost us more then $100, I refused.. The whole session she was rude to us because we didn't want to order that expensive fish. We asked for prawn crackers for kids, my husband picked up a packet was going to pay for it, she grabbed the packet back and throw back to the basket and said she would bring a plate of crackers for us with rude tone of voice. How rude! Never go back again.

Great Value. Went here on a quiet Friday with a Groupon voucher. Splendid food and very generous portions...so much that we struggled to do justice. Friendly service.

Good experience. Used a groupon voucher I had been given for a lunch deal as a take away last week. I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. First impressions of the restaurant was that it was clean, nice soft music playing and staff willing to serve and to please. The food was very good and I would certainly buy from them in the future.

Went for v day lunch today was very worried as l had read more bad reviews than good. After finishing the meal must say l saw the chairs that were ripped and l did check that our bowls were clean. The meal we shared was fabulous great food service was quick, and how many people these days speak good english!!

Sad. Having read positive reviews in the Advertiser before Christmas we expected a first class experience. We were shocked to find the table cloths filthy and the chairs torn and damaged and uncomfortable. The service whist friendly, was very slow. The food was acceptable but eaten with concern. If the tables are dirty, what is the kitchen like?? We will not be returning.

Great service. We dined here last night with a Groupon Voucher and when we arrived the waiter told us they are booked out and when we explained we rang and left a message with our phone number. He went and checked with the head lady and all was fine so we had a choice where to sit. Suddenly my mobile starts ringing and the lady came over to say she was just checking, no problem. The place is very clean and decor very acceptable. We noticed a slightly unclean bowl on our table and immediately the waiter changed it. He asked what wine did we prefer and brought us two glasses. He brought out Sweet and Sour soup and my wife tasted it and said it is very chilli hot so we asked for water and the soup was lovely and hot. The waiter said if you have a problem with hot spices they can change it, that was good to know. We had a bowl of prawn crackers as well. They brought out a small bowl with 2 Pork Yum Yum and 2 Pork Balls (that's how I describe them) with a small bowl of liquid to dip them in and they were very tasty, then the waiter brought out a large plate of fried rice, a large plate of Chicken and Beef with onions, chilli and sauces plus another large plate of Prawn and Squid with Chinese vegetables in another sauce all very tasty and filling. For desert we had Coconut Jelly. They are 2 small cube shapes and very nice and different. We had read reviews about the place before we came and I must say some of the reviews were terrible so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Well, the whole dining experience was excellent and the service too. We would recommend dining here to every one. Bon appetit.

I used the groupon prepaid purchased. Food was horrible. Waiter did not speak english properly. None of the food that came with groupon I want or like to eat. They charge for tea which is part of yum cha anyway. Everything over priced. I don't think I want to eat there again. Waited nea

Sweet corn soup and steamed dim sums was ok except for Chunks of fat. Salt and pepper squid was average and had the same texture as cardboard. Hot pot lacked flavour and only had one prawn between two.

Went there with the 7 course diner groupon deal. Waited an hr for food. Also, they didnt ask me which soup i want and gave me chicken corn soup, and did not allow me to swap. Food is okay.

Disappointed. We booked a table & went there last night with vouchers & were given a menu with no prices on it, only main courses, which was confusing. When I asked why there weren't any prices or any entrees & side dishes, the waitress got us the regular menus & then advised that we had been given the menus relating to the vouchers' choices list. The regular menu was difficult to read due the page & font colour. Anyway, we ordered the beef with shallots & the chicken with shallots plus steamed rice. These dishes sound similar but were very different from each other which was a surprise. The serving size was generous but neither meal was hot. The chicken meat was dry. The serving staff were not welcoming or friendly. Plus my husband's chair was halfway up a ramp so he was sitting on an angle throughout the meal.

Enjoyed dinner. Ate here with a voucher.
Very good service, food piping hot and large serves - too much for the two of us.
Food was very fresh tasting.
No complaints.
Would visit again.
Had read previous reviews, so we were a bit concerned, but could not fault on the night we were there.

All dishes were cold including soup entrees etc. Special fried rice had horrible meat in it. Honey chicken tasted like a whole pot of honey tipped on it. Took forever for desert to come out. Worst chinese ever

This is by far the worst yum cha place there is in Adelaide. The service is very bad... When the waiter put the tea cups on our table, they were full of lipstick marks and dirt on them. We wondered if they ever wash the cups properly. Even when we have requested new ones, they looked equally dirty. We had to pour Chinese tea out to wash the cups ourselves. The red colour on the serviettes came off as we started wiping the bowls, cheap quality! None of the waiters or waitresses smiled. To top it off, the waitress poured soy sauce all over the beef balls. Wrong sauce mate, she probably didn't know what Worcestershire sauce was. English was bad. Every single dish was sweet. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Go yum cha somewhere else.

Quick early dinner for two; enjoyed the crispy duck & pancakes: vegetarian fried rice, mixed mushroom crockpot & pot of Chinese tea. Took home the half not finished for another meal.

Excellent value for $78 groupon deal. Bought from groupon the 11 course deal for 4 people for $78. It's my first visit to the restaurant. I wasn't sure if the food will be enough for us but I soon realised that everything came in decent size and is probably enough for 6 people. I'm Chinese and am pretty fussy about food. I would say the food quality is quite reasonable. Yum Cha dim Sim is ok but not great. They are specialising in baguette. All the dishes came quite quickly within 15-20 minutes. Dessert (nice banana fritters) was a bit slow, I had to ask for a few times. Overall very good value for monies.

Will visit again when the deal is on.

HORRIBLE. Super horrible service.
Food is unbelievably horrible, we took one bite and stop eating.

Bad service. Entree arrived AFTER finished main course. Full of excuses. Not impressed.

Take-away was ordered and arrived very late. 1hr45min. I could not get through on the phone and did not think the food was even coming. I had ordered online with menu log. It arrived with big apologies. Not being able to get through on the phone spoiled the experience, although the food was amazing. It was the closest to what I would eat everyday in China and brought me back.. Dumplings, bbc and eggplant hotpot where all fantastic.

Strange services. This is the first time where I wasn't offered tea when we sat down at a yum cha place (yum cha actually means 'drink tea' in cantonese) so that was a bit strange. Normally at a busy yum cha place they would have trolleys of food carting around for you to pick out whatever you feel like but the trolleys never came close to us so we ended up having to order from a menu which was fine, except they missed a couple of dishes!
Don't get me wrong the food was actually quite tasty and authentic and they are friendly people but when odd services like that happen it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I will still give it another go to see if the service gets any better.

Nice!. I ordered takeaway from Golden Dragon Palace Seafood Restaurant via menulog for my birthday dinner with friends this year. The delivery was right on the time I was quoted, the delivery person was very friendly, and the food was quite nice. I enjoyed the Singapore Noodles and particularly liked the cheeky spice in the Shantung Chicken.

Poor food quality and over priced. I have dined in Golden Dragon Palace Restaurant three times now. I found their food is not well made and at times their seafood is not fresh. You can get a lot higher quality meal from CitiZen or Star House in China Town for the same money. The last time I had food from Golden Dragon Palace Restaurant was in a function which they were catering for. I was food poisoned from the food that they served.

Over all, I will not order from their ever again. The food is poorly cooked and is over priced.

The place is traditional and elegant with the Chinese lanterns, the timber dividers and the wallpaper that features Chinese characters. The white table cloths and leather seating give this place a more luxurious feel.

The five culprits of bad dim sum set us back $32.70. All of the dim sum skins were cold, sticky and gluggy, the worst state you want your steamed dim sums to be.
