Review Contemporary Japanese Deli - Adelaide

J Alansalon
The Contemporary Japanese Deli is a small, unpretentious, but charming place in a hideaway location. Took me right back to a humble neighbourhood cafe in Tokyo, especially with the friendly and polite service. Tried the hamburg curry, which also came with some miso soup (and bought a $2.50 can of Japanese cafe-au-lait). Curry did not disappoint at all, just wanted more of it! Must come back again to explore more of their authentic and reasonably priced menu.

Contemporary Japanese Deli is tucked away in a small arcade and is tiny but has great food. My go to is ramen but the udon noodles are great as are the bento boxes. Friendly service and great value.

I have my occasional lunch here on a business day. Love this family run joint serving some great Japanese meals. My favourite is the teriyaki chicken bento box. Highly recommended!

I have eaten here several times now and am always so impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly service. Today I had a yakiniku beef bento box and my husband had tonkatsu ramen and both were absolutely delicious. Thank you!

Great Japanese food! They make extraordinary teriyaki chicken and at such a friendly price! I have tried nearly all the Japanese restaurants in Adelaide, including the very high-end ones, never got any teriyaki chicken better than here.

Beautiful authentic ramen at prices more akin to what you can get in Japan. Flavour is excellent and the portion size just nice. Very friendly service and clean small place. Just wish this place was more accessible! Perfect if you work in the city or nearby.

It was super cold outside and I thoroughly enjoyed my Steamy Karaage Ramen here yesterday. The waiter was very friendly and pleasant to talk to as well. Great place.

I was recommended by some friends to try this place as they claimed it had the best ramen ever. I was keen so I tried it out and I loved it! It’s been months since I tried their ramen for the first time and I can’t help but keep coming back to this place almost every week, sometimes twice a week. It’s so good! I highly recommend the Hakata ramen and the Tokyo ramen is just as good also. I’ve tried bits and pieces from my friends dishes like the Japanese curry and with no surprise, it all tasted fantastic. Such an amazing hidden gem in Adelaide and the staff are all lovely people.

A hidden gem in Da Costa Arcade, just off Rundle Mall. The prices are very fair for what they offer, and the food exceeds expectations for the price. Their ramen and curries are the standout dishes. An ideal lunch spot.

I'd love to give this place 4 stars but found the bento box to be a bit of a let down. Nevertheless, the people who run this little shop are Japanese and are ever so friendly!

Japanese food has always been a little bit of a mystery to me, as my early exposure to it wasn’t overly enticing. Some flavour combinations and ingredients can be a little left field, so for a long time I just didn’t quite get it. However, eventually I was reintroduced via the institution that is ramen, and the rest, as they say, is history.

This is a great place to grab a quick lunch. They have healthy rice bowls, bento boxes and other quick lunch options. There are a few tables to sit and eat otherwise you can grab and go.  I've recently tried their ramen and it is pretty decent.

Authentic and delicious Japanese food served with a smile. Their bento boxes are my go-to and are excellent value at $9.80. Easily one of the best lunch spots in the CBD.

A tiny Japanese cafe that serves bento, sushi, ramen and rice dishes. The staff are delightful and the food is fresh, delicious and authentic. Very popular as evidenced by the queues. Expect to share tables and if you order ramen, it is usually a 25 min wait. The wait is worth it for one of best ramens I have eaten.
