Wonderful consistent service. Top quality produce. Easily Balmain’s best cafe.
Got here around 9.30am this morning and the shop was relatively empty. I was met by the barrister, a middle aged Asian man who probably owns the cafe. He was very friendly and showed me to the table.
I ordered the ricotta hotcakes with blue berry compote. I felt like it needed to be a bit sweeter so I asked for some maple, and it was perfect!! Very delicious breakfast and I'll definitely be back =)

Came here for Australia day breakfast, and naturally all the cafes were quite busy, including this one. Managed to get a table, and service was prompt. We sat down and was presented with the menu. However, order taking took a little longer but the wait was not too long which redeemed itself.
The càfe is spacious but the seatings were a tad close to each other, which meant you could be a fly in the wall even when you didn't want to.
We ordered French toast and baked eggs, a soy flat white and chocolate milkshake. Their coffee however is TERRIBLE! The coffee was burnt and had an awful after taste. The food however was good and the portion size, generous.
There were no stand out features to this cafe. What you can get here, you can get at most Sydney cafe, and I guess what gets patrons coming back is their price, portion size. Apart from that, their food is also tasty, very predictable, so you know exactly what you'll be getting.
This cafe is the best value for money in balmain with generous servings and equally good brekkie and lunch options. The staff are friendly and if you are lucky grab a table where you watch the crowd go by on darling street. The coffee also gets a tick - all in all everything you could ask for from your local cafe.
Not a bad place to enjoy a weekend breakfast or brunch, and an all-day breakfast menu is always a winner. For something lighter, went for the fruit salad with yoghurt and granola rather than a big fry-up. Hit the spot.
Ordered a tandoori chicken wrap and a freshly squeezed juice (watermelon, pineapple, mint). Price was average and the food was decent. The chicken was very tasty and was given a good portion of it. Service was lovely and quick!
Really love it at fundamentals, a cheaper alternative to the other Cafes throughout Balmain. Coffee is alright and the food is good. The husband and wife that own it are very nice and they always deliver exceptional service. I have to recommend the chicken and avo melt! An absolute delight with a side of chips.
Fundamental understand that weekends are for taking it s-l-o-w and serves breakfast up until 4.00pm. This is the perfect brunch place for sleepy-heads like me.
Excellent. Breakfast here is fantastic. Cooked excellently, generous servings and great value. Quick service, too. A large veggie breakfast and regular coffee for just $17. And contrary to previous reviews, the service was cheerful. Highly recommended.
Wonderful Fish!. The barramundi here is delicious and the service is exemplary as well. The place has nice ambience and a good atmosphere.
Great little place. We had the beef burger and the salmon special. The salmon was awesome but the burger ok your average run of the mill.
Best Omelettes in Sydney and possibly all of Australia… I have never experienced a better omelette.
My husband & I have been coming here for probably over 10 years & it’s a pleasure seeing the same hard working people - we love our Sunday breakie!
My mum comes in a lot. We join her weekly because we love Fundamental. The food is really good and the owners are so kind and caring, just like family. It is all healthy food, with wholemeal burger buns and vegetables and seeds added to dishes. In a sea of trendy eateries, you get wholesome, real food here, for the locals.
Nice place and good food. We came for a late breakfast early lunch and enjoyed the healthy options.
Always my favorite place for brunch.. Chorizo omelette is my favorite!! Toby Estates coffee - nice! Staff are friendly and nice.
Excellent Cafe, been going here for 15 years and it never fails to impress. Food is great and very reasonable. Staff are always amazing and super friendly. This Cafe is always buzzing with people laughing and chatting.
Went here for breakfast, ohh my lord was easily the best I've ever had. Price was cheap considering.
