Oh mah good gad damn! Best dinner in a loooong time. Thanks Happy Boy, now I've got to go rate everything else I've ever reviewed down to 4 stars, to make each and every one of the 5 stars you earned tonight truly count! My mum, who's been eating mapo tofu from any Chinese restaurant we've ever gone to in the last 20 years said this one was probably the best. The salt and pepper prawns were second to none, and my favourite dish of the night, despite very fierce competition from the Beijing duck pancakes. Beef chow ho fun tasted just perfect too.

Love love love this place - the service and food are exceptional. Great value for money - best little place to grab your lunch or takeaway dinner. Highly recommend the pork and prawn wontons in chilli oil and the eggplant curry

The venue looks good, albeit very noisy. The food was of a high standard, I particularly enjoyed the won-tons and the eggplant and roast pork belly.
Would happily revisit

Located in near the tree with the fairy lights in the Valley, this restaurant isn’t much to look at. The decor is very simple. However their food is very nice. Their banquets are also very decently priced and you get a lot of food. Very generous. You won’t go hungry here.

Everything was lovely. We got the banquet to share and everything was super tasty. Only negative is that the duck was a bit over cooked.

Overall score: 18/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: chinese meal in western setting
*
💬 Review: i am generally skeptical about asian fusion. But my doubts were washed away after my dinner here. The appeal of this place is that you can have good chinese food in a beautiful setting, which is ideal for group and office dinners.

Haven’t had a vege dish like the broccolini with burnt butter and black bean sauce. Enjoyed it so much that I was sad to see the end of it. The Sichuan fish was “tamed” because it had more subtle hints of peppercorn compared to the ones served in traditional Sichuan restaurants. Fried rice wasn’t too oily and had generous amounts of shredded duck and preserved vege. My partner and I concluded that to really enjoy our meal here, it’s best not to compare it to traditional chinese places. Happy Boy has proven that asian food in a western setting can be pretty good too. And oh, did I mention the wide ranging alcohol selection?

Very good food. The eggplant dish was 10 out of 10. Fantastic interior! Service was great. Would’ve given 5 stars but one of the servers couldn’t explain the menu. Otherwise very good experience.

3.75 ⭐️ - Pleasantly surprised, got the chef's banquet and its value is bang for buck. The service however was notably disappointing and some of the waiters had terrible attitude. Some of dishes we got were also from snackman: 🥟 Prawn & pork wontons - delicious, perfect balance of flavours 🥟 Ham Sui Gok (beef dumpling) - bland, not like the ones you get from yumcha 🥟 Salt & pepper prawns - highly recommended, cooked perfectly and seasoned well 🥟 House fried rice - dry and underwhelming 🥟 Flash fried lamb - tasted like a falafel, wasn't a fan of the spices 🥟 Eggplant with pork belly - interesting dish, pork belly was very mushy so didn't really enjoy that 🥟 3 cup chicken - can't go wrong with this, was just like a sweet & sour pork 🥟 Deep fried icecream - generous size, choc sauce was bitter and overpowering

Ordered the mapo tofu and the fish slice in oil, not to my Sichuan style standard, but after a few days of no spicy food in Brisbane, these taste “ok”. One steam rice bowl is enough for 2 person. Atmosphere is good, and the staff is friendly and good service.

I was here for dinner during my trip in Brisbane, and I was drawn to this restaurant because I was a fiend for some chongqing chilli chicken, a meal that was so fantastical in this one restaurant back in Sydney that has now closed down. From the first sight, the exteriors of this place was very pretty and a lot fancier than I had expected it to be. The address of this place states under fairy lit trees and it was literally under fairy lit trees, and it looked so nice. We entered and was seated pretty quickly. It was a busy Sunday evening so it was a near full house. We started off with some red wine and placed our order shortly. We had the chongqing chilli chicken, salt and pepper prawns, and the prawn and pork wontons in chilli broth. To say that the food here was great is a complete understatement, because this is very well the best Chinese food experience ive ever had in my life. They say that the dingier these asian restaurants are the better the food would be but this just went above and beyond that, because the food here has well exceeded my expectations, and the venue is modern and artistically designed. The chongqing chilli chicken was incredible, maybe even better than what I had in Sydney, and there was so much of it that I had to have it takeaway. The salt and pepper prawns were also delicious, it didnt taste super doughy or had a weird bitter taste in its crumb, it was flavourful throughout each bite, and the same could be said about the wontons as well. It wasnt too spicy at all, neither was the chicken, and the broth simply enhanced its flavour to the absolute highest level. Its a shame that they dont have a chain of this over in Sydney, but maybe that would diminish its quality and exclusivity if it happens. Regardless, this will definitely be a place I will come back to when I eventually return to Brisbane for another trip, because this was one of my highlights for sure

I had to scroll through the most recent reviews to make sure nobody else said this, but I couldn’t find anything SOOOO. This place sure made me a Happy Boy! We didn’t make a reservation but they sat us down at a table that had a reservation in an hours time. They assured us the food would come out quickly so we sat down. BAM food out in the first 10 minutes! It was all very flavourful, well portioned and extremely tender! Nothing missed and they were all straight bangers. Wait staff were very attentive and polite, felt like fine dining without the price tag! Love it, not many places I would say “I’d come back here to try something else”. Good job Good Boy on raising Brisbane’s food game!
