Review 85 Miskin St - Brisbane

Christine Andrews
Absolutely fantastic experience. We did a degustation and brought our own wine. BYO is $15 per bottle if I remember correctly. The service by Brendon was excellent. Great guy, professional and friendly. The food was amazing. I forgot to photograph all the dishes. All of the dishes were superb! Sad that they are closing but I'm glad I got to eat there before they do. I highly recommend dining there before they close.

The food and service at 85 Miskin St is spectacular! We have had two Christmas lunches with them and have been blown away with the menu and courses they produced! We can’t wait to come back soon!

What a treat. A quaint little spot tucked away on a suburban street. A cosy interior with wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. The food was beautifully presented and was a delight to eat. Each dish was the perfect serving as to not overwhelm you and make you full, they led on well to the next dish and by the end I was justly satisfied and satiated. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Once I pierced through the crispy skin of duck confit, hot air and smell of duck burst out. The meat was soft and juicy. I have never imagined chocolate could come with rosemary and made as Cream Brûlée. Surprisingly matched and delicious! Putting Ice cream scoops, caramelised banana, shortbread, banana chantilly altogether onto the plate looked messy but indeed their taste were harmony connected and yummy! A bit noisy during my visit as there was a group of 7 sharing the little room chatting and laughing loudly. It would be perfect if the staff could arrange the big group to other floor so the rest of us could have a dinner inside the hidden cozy cottage.

I had 5 course tasting menu with my family and friends. Absolutely amazing! Enjoyed every single dish. It says tasting menu but size of the food was more than I expected, way too good for the price!! staff was very helpful to coordinated a meals for children. I also loved the 'very quiet' atmosphere. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back 🙂

You would not only be amazed by the presentation of the food, the flavour of individual dishes would bring surprises to your taste buds. The choice of matching wines for degustation course are so perfect. This is our second visit to 85 Miskin St, and we still couldn’t stop talking about the food and wine on the way home!!!

We came here for date night last night - we haven’t been here for a while since COVID, but we’re not disappointed! Still excellent food and service. The bisque was a stand out!

One of the very best restaurants ( owned and managed by Brent & Kylie ) in Brisbane . Visited this restaurant since 2005 for the last 17 years . Wonderful degustation as well as À la carte menu and all the dishes are prepared with top class skill and passion ! Delicious ! Tasty ! Excellent service ! Well done Chef Brent and Kylie ! Always delivered! It is very sad that this unique place is closing down at the end of April 2022 . What a great couple to miss ! Wishing them healthy and happy always no matter when and where they will be 🙏🙏🙏 All the very best !

My partner and I were lucky enough to stumble across this restaurant tonight when looking or dinner ideas. The food was fantastic, and particularly well seasoned, we enjoyed the 8 course degustation menu and every dish complimented each other beautifully. The staff were lovely, the service they provided was warm and attentive, the lady who served us joked about how much we must have hated the food as we sent plate after plate back empty. Thank you very much for such a wonderful night, we will be adding this to our favorites list in Brisbane, would very much recommend!

This restaurant is my favourite place to eat. All the combinations of food that are put together are unique and delightful. I have not found a place that equals this wonderful cuisine!!

If you're looking for a restaurant with wow factor this is it. We had a wonderful lunch at 85 Miskin St and each plate was more impressive than the last! On top of that the staff were extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back to try the full degustation menu!

Great food but bad service , for a 8 course degustation it took 3hrs , they kept forgetting the next meal , sat for 40min before first dish was brought out only cause we had to ask ,forgetting to top up people's wines , our water was topped up once only giving 3 star cause of food but having to wait a large time for for such a tiny dish each time didn't make it enjoyable , a lot different compared to when it was called Brent's :-(

Absolutely amazing food! Great atmosphere and staff are very warm and friendly. A hidden gem in the suburbs- I think this has become my fav restaurant in Brisbane!!

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Brisbane . I’ve been here about 7 times in the last two years and the food is consistently fantastic. I’ve never had a meal here that I could fault. After sampling a variety of 1 and 2 hat restaurants in Australia , 85 Miskin always comes out on top and their degustation menu is supreme. It is excellent value for money - you won’t get anything better in Brisbane ! And the service is great. Love your work Brett and team!

We had been to 85 Miskin a couple of times before and went back on Saturday for the dinner degustation to celebrate my partner’s birthday. The service and attention is just outstanding... they remember all the requests I’ve made, happy to accommodate slight changes to the degustation menu and also made a special dessert plate for my partner. Every course is super delicious and even better than what we had before! We’re going back with friends in a couple of weeks!
Jimmy Urwin
Just had the 8 course degustation here with my wife. Cannot fault at all. Amazing food and great service. Our waitress was really nice. I would probably not normally eaten chicken heart or blood sausage but they tasted amazing. Very nice.
Holly Todor
I’ve found my new favourite restaurant!! The food was absolutely incredible and worth every penny!! The service couldn’t be faulted either. We will definitely be back again. Thank you for an amazing evening.

Was here for Sunday brekkie. ..it was an incredible experience. Really professional staff who seated us quickly even though we didn't have a reservation. The braised beef is a must. Would come again

I try to get out to a different restaurant every weekend with my wife, but without a doubt this is the best restaurant I have been to in years. The food was amazing and the staff were great. I will be coming back again very soon. Looking forward to trying some other dishes.

Completely amazing.... started with the pâté for entree, then had the Pork belly for the main and it was seriously the best I had ever had and the bar was set pretty high as I compare every restaurants pork belly to the pork belly dish I had at Baguettes about 10 years ago - compliments to the Chef
Shaun Parsons
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! The quality of food is second to none. I've never found such value for money. We had our anniversary dinner here with the degustation and matching wines. Amazing! Could not fault a thing. The staff are amazing. So friendly, helpful and FUN! I'm definitely coming back!!!!

A huge thank you to the team at 85 Miskin Street for last night! There is no better place to enjoy at great night with friends and family for your fortieth. The food and service, as always, was perfect .

Have been to 85 Miskin about 5 times now and have never been disappointed. Have experienced the degustation breakfast, lunch and dinner and tonight dined with my brother and his wife and chose from the a la Carte menu. Food was amazing and service was brilliant. We will be back again.

My partner and I finally decided to give 85 Miskin Street a try after many years of driving past and saying we should give that a try, and it did not disappoint! <br/>The food and service were impeccable. We had the dégustation and not only was the food delicious and but it was also interesting, which made it exciting to eat!<br/>Definitely worth a trip to the suburbs to dine here!

Rated 4.5. Went here with the partner after making a reservation as soon as the restaurant re-opened with the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions.<br/>We chose the five-course tasting menu at $65pp. Between both of us, for entrees we tried: "citrus cured salmon" (light, fresh and well-balanced in flavours and textures) and "pork belly" (beautifully succulent with crispy skin). For mains: "barramundi" (perfectly cooked with crispy skin) and "eye fillet" (cooked medium-rare, standard but well-prepared accompaniments and flavours). For desserts: "chocolate tart" (beautifully moreish dark chocolate) and "fig pudding" (warm, moist and homely flavours). The complimentary amuse bouche and palate cleaners were refreshing and delicious teasers between courses.<br/>Service was friendly and efficient. Smart casual ambience (and appropriately socially distanced between tables). Reasonable prices.<br/>Overall, a good dining experience with a modern Australian/French flair.
Foodmonster
7-course degustation menu exceeded our expectations. Flavours were well paired and portions were very generous!
Olivia Thambidurai
Amazing food, great service and reasonably priced
Dora_SW
The degustation dinner had a nice and varied line up of courses that was overall just the right amount of food. Their breakfasts are exceptional, with the quality of the meals just as refined and unique as the dinner items. It is unfortunate that they are only open for breakfast on the weekend because 85 Miskin is a real gem for a sophisticated morning out.

Very lucky to have this as a local restaurant. They do some of the best breakfasts I’ve ever tasted. We have been for dinner a few times which have been pretty specials. All of the food is creative and beautiful and well as delicious.I’ve not eaten one bite I didn’t completely enjoy. <br/><br/>The menu is always changing which keeps things fresh. The staff are warm and welcoming too. Definitely one of my favourites.
Catdog
Took my parents here for dinner, only complaint was the refurbishment with wooden floors has made it too noisy to the point that you really have to yell across the table when it’s busy. Food was all amazing and highlight for me was the pork belly and chocolate dessert. Octopus and barramundi dishes were both cooked perfectly. Sticky date pudding also delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Would go back!
Amy
My husband and I were so impressed with the service and quality of food throughout the entire degustation menu. We were referred by a friend and it is a hidden gem in the quiet streets of Toowong. We will definitely be back as we enjoy a lot of restaurants in Brisbane and this by far is one of the best. We could not fault our evening at all.

If you're serious about brunching take it to the next level and do 85 Miskin's Breakfast degustation with drinks - it's an experience. The restaurant itself is so beautiful too, just a really nice space to be in.

I arrived for the breakfast degustation full of anticipation and expectation, and the decor, service and atmosphere did not disappoint. When each course arrived the presentation was immaculate, and portions were perfect. The actual food, however, was underwhelming. It astounds me that their eggs are not free range, they were also very underdone. There was also a course substitution from carrot cake to banana, and I got a shock when my quinelle of cream turned out to be butter! Don't get me wrong, the food was fine, but I have had far better meals for less elsewhere.
The Food Addict Brisbane
I tried my first degustation at 85 Miskin St and have been hooked ever since. Their latest degustation menu is fantastic. It ticks all of the boxes in terms of my go to ingredients/dishes - pork belly, salmon, beef cheek, haloumi, chocolate/coffee dessert! From the mushroom latte amuse bouche to the delicious crispy pancetta with a tender slow cooked beef cheek...I was in foodie heaven! All topped off with a yummy espresso martini (with a scoop of icecream!). If you have never tried a degustation I would definitely recommend going here. It's also really great value in comparison to other restaurants with tasting menus. Just make sure you get dropped off out the front if you are wearing high heels otherwise you will have to tackle a very steep hill!

Amazing food. Consistently. Very friendly and knowledgable service. Have been many times and never disappointed. The mushroom champagne soup is amazing.

A nice and quiet environment. We loved the wooden and minimized decor. Food was lovely too. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it. It's recommended for having a nice meal with your loved ones on a special occasion.
Jamin65
Truly a delightful and refreshing experience. Now while we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday lunch (where are you Brisbane?), the service was efficient and comfortable and informative. The location has a character that is unique being in an old corner store suburban building - being in the burbs I assume that lent to the small number of customers. Seating is comfortable and not crowded. Now the food - wow - we had the lunch degustation - simply wow - the diversity, the flavours - wow! The wine list, while catering to a less expensive taste, also carries a few good ones. Thanks Miskin Street - you made our 25th wedding anniversary memorable.

This is the second time I have come to this establishment for breakfast , my first time was for a champagne and truffle degustation breakfast , today I got the house smoked salmon , confit potatoes , sour cream on toasted rye and bottarga. The food here is delicious! Everything is on point and I do not have a single complaint except wanting more food ! I would highly recommend this place , the staff are friendly , the room has simple but a warm decor about it , I will be back very soon !

If you want a quiet yet sophisticated breakfast then drop into 85 Miskin. On entry there were only 1 or 2 other couples and we got served straight away. The coffee was one of my favourites, Tobys estate, and packed a awesome punch with the flavour not lacking from first to last sip, I also enjoyed a Macchiato as well as my coffee and this was magnificent!!! Had the four course meal for brekky (breakfast degustation) and was very enjoyable and cooked to perfection and presented well, only downside was the third dish had a slow poached egg and everyone else's egg yolk was runny except mine, it was over cooked. Also had my favourite bacon, maple bacon and would have liked it crispy, it was rendered well but just needed to be cooked longer for the perfect crunch. All in all fantastic service, good price, loved the peace and quiet to start the morning but most of all loved the company that was with us.

The breakfast degustation has been on my wishlist for aeons. Unsurprisingly it was an education in culinary excellence with resounding amounts of wow. <br/><br/>Such finesse, such creativity, such calm sophistication. Meanwhile my eyes were nearly popping out my head & I barely resisted the urge to lick the plates. <br/><br/>The pics say it all better than my ineloquence ever could. AMAZING! <br/><br/>Brekkie double dates do not get any better than this! It's a very big deal.

Location is easy to miss because the restaurant is hidden in some bushes and there's no designated parking. <br/><br/>Food was delicious, but very pricey, definitely a splurge. <br/><br/>Location decor was beautiful, and the atmosphere is very classy. Best way I can put it is that it's definitely more of a brunch place to take your mother rather than the girls :)
Chocolate Obsession
Best dinner degustation in Brisbane. Flavours were outstanding and creative. Left very full but satisfied Will be back soon to try breakfast.

Had a lovely breakfast this morning with my mum and her friends today, I had the maple bacon wit homemade bean bernaise sauce 2 slow cooked egg and toast, my mum had braised beef with poached egg garlic croutons. Amazing meals as usual come back again soon. I would recommend people to try out this place and also check out there Degustations menus as well.

We went to 85 Miskin St last night for Valentines Dinner.  The room was minimalistic, which could do with a bit more character of the old vintage style, as a talking point.  I would love to see old photos of the place on the walls.  As the photos of a by gone era was beside the till.  I nearly missed it.<br/>The air con was on the verge of cold.<br/>The staff were very proficent and the service was excellent.  Especially, the wine waitress and the fellow who served the water- very professional and pleasing to watch as service was immpeccable.<br/>Now, the good part,  the food was a set menu of four courses.  And the menu was laid on the table so we knew what we were going to be served.<br/>All my husband and I can say is the food just pops and explodes in your mouth.  And that was with every course of the four course menu.  The many different tastes and mixtures of flavours was a pleasure to experiment and devour. <br/>We look forward to going back.
Food Avenue
Awarded One Hat by the Good Food Guide 2014/15 and receiving a high score on Zomato (4.3/5), it had been on my Brisbane to-try list for a while. And so, we decided it was the perfect catch up venue for The Food Avenue team. Walking in, the atmosphere was unpretentious and cosy. The downstairs dining room was full, so our reserved table was upstairs. It was a warm day in Brisbane when we dined, but the air conditioning kept us at a good temperature.

Any restaurant that serves ice-cream for breakfast gets a 5 from me!!<br/>The breakfast degustation was absolutely superb matched by the service. A great way to start a day to celebrate.

My husband and I had dinner here last night for our anniversary. We had the degustation menu and I couldn't fault anything. <br/>The service was absolutely impeccable and to the standard of a 5 star restaurant. The staff were very knowledgeable with the menu and wines.<br/>The food itself was a little more fancy than I usually have but I really enjoyed it, I was able to taste a few things I hadn't had before like the chicken heart. <br/>Overall it was a wonderful experience and I'd definitely recommend this place for a nice dinner out, in fact I already have to a few friends and family who live locally.
Will Lai
We had the breakfast degustation and it was really nice. If you want to have a good taster of what this place is about for brekky get the degustation. Their take on bacon and eggs was the highlight, refined and balanced meals. Highly recommended

I came here for breakfast with a group of gals and the food was amazing! For breakfasts I had the cured salmon and it was delicious! The plating was nice and the flavours of the dish were prefect, it was definitely worth the price as well. After breakfast, we all wanted to taste to the desserts so between the 5 of us we shared the brownie and yoghurt mousse. The brownie was delicious and the salted caramel and miso ice cream tasted surprisingly good. Following from the brownie came the mousse and fill ice cream, the flavours were different but they were very good and enjoyable. The service of the restaurant was wonderful as well, service was quick and staff had a keen attention to detail. <br/>Definitely would love to come back!

We had been before but this time it was breakfast. Another restaurant that gets it right. Good service. excellent food, and then we had breakfast dessert. I am actually lost for words. The best I have ever eaten. I'm a real fussy bastard, so this review is a one off. I could not fault anything. Do yourselves and your taste buds a favour. Check it out.
Chloe
beautiful breakfast degustation, fine dining quality not like ordinary cafe breakfast. Hidden gem inside Toowong suburban area, Sad street parking is a bit of problem with hills up and down, a bit dangerous if you have kids..
Coffeeaddict
Went for a date night with my bf, ordered the June set menu for $129 with a bottle of wine! We decided to go all out and add truffles also! Was the perfect evening, the beef cheek was the highlight as it just melted in your mouth! Great value and great service
Two Hangry Hippos
What better way to celebrate one hangry hippo’s birthday than with a seven course degustation dinner at 85 Miskin St. Tucked away on a quiet suburban street in Toowong, 85 Miskin St is home to some of the best (and beautifully presented) food we have experienced in Brisbane, led by head chef and owner, Brent Farrell.
Maryse Dubois
We went here for a dinner degustation, the food was absolutely phenomenal 10/10 would recommend! We got the wine pairings and they were lovely. The sous vide pork melted in your mouth, and the dessert was amazing. <br/><br/>Service was also really good, such a great place, I want to try the breakfast degustation next!
Satya Gumpena
I came here for the first time with my wife and started off with cocktails. Best espresso martini ever had in Brisbane. We ordered a 8 course degustation Meal, We are very very satisfied with each and every dish, a good variance between each dish, very good service and a very good ambience. Definitely recommend and we will bring our mom here for both breakfast and dinner. Thank you 85 Miskin Street.
Renata
Absolutely loved the breakfast degustation!<br/>The food was beautifully plated and every single dish was delicious.<br/>Do yourself a favour and try it!<br/>I can't wait to come back and try a dinner degustation..

This is a one hat restaurant, equivalent to one Michelin star so we expected lots from it and trust me it delivered. We did the degustation at this restaurant and holy hell it was absolutely phenomenal. We got the wine pairings as well which costed ($149), ($89) without.<br/><br/>Their menu changes every once in a while so I've attached the menu that we were so blessed to indulge in below.<br/>Note: Crispy skin pork belly was switched to Glazed Lamb Belly. All photos are in order<br/><br/>Star of this whole degustation was the Lamb Belly hands down. I have honestly never tasted anything like it. This dish is on their main menu so definitely go try this out if anything. I didn't particularly enjoy the sorbet cleanser or the Chocolate Dessert (I'm not a fan of rich desserts) but my boy definitely did.<br/><br/>FOOD: 9/10<br/>SERVICE: 10/10<br/>AMBIENCE: 7/10
Cruise
The breakfast degustation experience was absolutely amazing! The service and staff were superb, food was delicious and served with heart. I note it also caters for dietary requirements as they asked if we had any when we ordered which I had never seen any other restaurants do upfront. I would definitely go back again if I didn't work so many weekends!
Jess
Every course of the degustation was to die for! Recently celebrated our anniversary here and it was amazing. Highly recommend the degustation!
Foodieinheels
One of my favourite fine dining restaurants in Brisbane! We had a 6 course degustation dinner with friends for Chef Brent's 10 year anniversary at the site (the restaurant used to be called Brent's). The seafood bisque was literally one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had! Dessert, the Black Forest floor, is an absolute masterpiece both visually and taste-wise. For what you get, 85 Miskin is excellent value - you'd be paying a lot more for the same calibre of food in the CBD. The restaurant's location in a beautiful two-level suburban house also makes it a great venue for an intimate dinner with family and friends. There's a breakfast degustation on the weekend which I will definitely be returning for!

Have been to 85 Miskin twice now and am happy to call it a hidden gem! Found in a suburban house in an unsuspecting street it offers diners 5 star food in a quiet setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Service is excellent, and the food is always great. Definitely one of the best in Brisbane!

We had the most MAGNIFICENT meal (s) here. We have eaten at Cutler and Co in Melb... Cumulus in Melb.. Billy Kwong in Syd... Bistro Guilliaume in Melb... Woodhouse in Melb... The Stoke House in Melb... Attica in Melb.... Donovons in Melb... and MISKIN ST is by far the best we have had... ever and we love Cutler and Co. SO THATS A RECOMEMDATION... so much so that they have inspired me to make a mini edible garden at my joint...LOVE IT!!!

85 miskin ticks all the boxes. Its a classic venue with lovely food and service. I have had many great meals. True quality shines through with the food and presentation.<br/>

Some people may have had issues about the service and I can see why, there was just 1 waitress on a Tuesday night but I had no issues. The ambience here is amazing, especially at night. Group of 3 of us came for dinner, and we ordered to share. Brought along a bottle of wine and was pleasantly surprised to find out there was free corkage on Tuesday nights! Ordered the crispy chicken confit with dried kimchi, the chicken was boneless and when eaten with the Mayo, it was simply perfect. For the mains we had the braised beef cheeks and lamb belly/loin. The beef cheeks came with a red wine sauce which I felt that was reduced to perfection. The beef cheeks was extremely tender and we loved it. For the lamb, one should taste it by itself before spreading the mustard and the nuts on it, like the beef, the lamb dish was a perfect dish and each ingredient complemented each other. For the desserts, we had the special - brownies, ice cream, caramelised bananas with honey combs. Like the lamb, when eaten altogether the dish was amazing. 10/10 will come again to try every other dish on the menu!

What a local gem. Perfect for any occasion. Food was delicious and wine was great. Wait staff were a bit uncoordinated - only a minor downside.<br/>Can't wait to take my friends back here. <br/>

85 Miskin St is a little place hidden in the back streets of Toowong.  Driving up to it I was thinking 'surely there is no restaurant here in the middle of all these houses' but there is was nestled amongst them at the bottom of the hill.  Whilst walking up to it, my date for the night was quietly wondering what we were in for as the quirky little location used to be a corner store (as we were told by the friendly staff) and the restaurant front still closely resembles this.  The environment inside is not special, the bad acoustics make it difficult to hear when the room is busy and there is no outlook or view.  That is all totally irrelevant when the degustation menu starts to come out.  Each dish was meticulously prepared and visually spectacular but what struck me most was the creativity in the menu.  The combinations of flavours in each dish persistently amazed me through the whole evening, from the first dish to the final chocolate desert.  I am by no means an expert on these things so I won't detract from the chef's work by attempting to detail them, all I can say is it is a dining experience that reminded me what fine dining was all about.  The staff were friendly and the arrival of each dish was well timed, there was never a moment I wondered where the next one was and I never felt rushed.  The cost of the degustation menu was only $89 - I actually felt this was a bargain by the end of the night.  Overall you may think the location and the dated exterior of the place detracted from the experience but in the end it actually reminded me of one of those little hidden gems you can impress your friends with.

We had brekkie here and whilst my meal was good ( bacon and croquette) , my boyfriend's lamb hash meal was amazing! Definitely worth going for.
The Food Oracle
I love a good degustation! The degustation here was amongst the best I have had in Brisbane. The lamb belly was the absolute star, I need to have that as a main! The apple, mint, chocolate dessert was so clever I could not stop raving about it. The whipped brie was just incredible, melty heaven in your mouth.. I need to have all my bries whipped now! <br/>Super affordable for a beautiful degustation - $89/head. In hindsight I wish I had added the matched wines. <br/>Service was warm and lovely. I was not such a fan of the decor and I was rather cold in the corner of the restaurant, but I go for the food!
Honesty Is The Best Policy
Delicious as always and superb service as always! My husband and I made a last minute booking when the restaurant we had booked in the city cancelled our reservation without notice and all the other city restaurants we tried were fully booked. We decided to head back to Toowong and try our old faithful to see if they could fit us in and boy are we glad they could. We've been here four times for dinner now over the last three years and have never been let down. The food is delightful - mushroom cappuccino, the pimms twist cocktail, the Black Forest dessert (a piece of art itself!) have been some of our fave items. Entrees and mains have always been exquisite and desserts a delightful treat to finish the meal. Menu has changed frequently so it has been nice to be able to mix it up and try new things. Did prefer the old worldly formal decor which matched the old Queenslander over the new modern mismatched decor (could do with some restyling) but that is neither here nor there. The most important part of a great restaurant experience is the food and we know we can always count on 85 Miskin St to offer unique inspiring dishes and flavour combinations we have never tasted! Cannot recommend enough!!!

Degustation dinners are usually few and far between for most people thanks to the hefty price tag attached to the plates and plates of food that are served up. However, as part of the 10 year celebrations at Toowong restaurant 85 Miskin St, a special July degustation menu has been concocted which features six of the restaurant’s favourite dishes over the past decade.

The food in this place is simply amazing. Fabulous delicious creative food plated impeccably. Great service. The only downside is the restaurant can be a little noisy when it is busy. This place is an absolute treasure. Do yourself a favor and go you will not be disappointed, in fact you too will be seduced by the amazing food and friendly service.

This Saturday we ventured to brunch, which is a rarity because after years of brunching I've become quite immune to the charms of poached eggs, pancakes and waffles that I can easily whip up at home. However, we ate at 85 Miskin Street and enjoyed our meal. I'd heard of 85 Miskin Street a couple of years ago but only visited recently thanks to my brother. My brother discovered Scoopon this year and gifted us with a couple of breakfast Scoopons that he purchased but could not use within the free time he has in his FIFO schedule. We visited on a Saturday morning around 10 am and apart from the treacherous Toowong hills that it's sitting amongst which make parking and manoeuvreing quite difficult, the 85 Miskin Street breakfast dining experience was great.
Traceyann
Disappointing. My husband and I went here for dinner, we wanted to like it after it's long standing reputation but it fell so short of the mark. The decor is cheap and badly needs some attention and money spent on it! the toilets and staircase up to the toilets were in dire need of a good clean! We both had three courses and each course needed salt/was uninspiring/overpriced/tiny portions. We are all for "dainty" and beautiful, but the portions here are insanely small. Wine by the glass tasted so cheap and like it had been open for 3 days already. Service was friendly.<br/>Unfortunately we won't be returning. Sorry miskin street, I wanted to like you!
YumsAndNoms
Good service, average food. Went here with a Scoopon deal and was pleased we didn't have to pay full price. The staff were fabulous but unfortunately the food let the place down. My choice of smoked salmon with poached eggs and potato rosti sounded delicious but was average at best. The poached eggs were underdone and not well drained, leaving a puddle of water on my plate. My husband's choice of homemade beans came with bacon that seemed as though it had been sitting in a bain maree for hours. This is not somewhere we will visit again.
V
Brekkie...I've had better. Went here with scoopon deal, if I paid full price I would have felt incredibly ripped off.<br/><br/>I admit the food was well presented but the portion is on the small side. Poached eggs were totally on point, best poached eggs I've ever seen! <br/><br/>Flavour wise it's okay, as the heading suggests, I've had better. I paid $4 for side of avo salsa, while it was nice, again it was incredibly small.<br/><br/>I had salmon with potato rosti and the rosti was so soggy! If it wasn't for the extra avo the dish would have no freshness to it. Kind of blah. <br/><br/>My partner doesn't remember what he had because it was so unremarkable. <br/><br/>I think this is quite a harsh review but its only because I expected so much more from them. I was a big fan of brents. #bringbackbrents
AG
I really wanted to like this place but the food is only so-so.<br/>Dined here with a breakfast deal, was excite about my coffee pancakes with hazelnut icecream and my partner ordered the potato rosti thing with salmon and poached egg. The plating of the dishes were nice but the food is very simple in terms of taste, nothing special. The meals are not hearty like other brunch places as it seems that they are going for a "higher-class" offering but then the standard of the food don't match. Coffee pancake has no coffee taste, a bit doughie; and portion is small. The decor is nice and service is good but the food is very mediocre. Won't return for brunch but may try dinner.

Creative dining. One of the most creative restaurants out there - the dishes were beautifully presented, full of flavour and the ambience of the place just adds to the overall dining experience. service was attentive and swift. the famous scallop broth was amazingly rich and did not disappoint. we were also impressed with the taste of the meringue which completely lived up its novel presentation

Diana. We tried Miskin on a coupon deal & pleased we did because it was a bit pricey for breakfast. The coffee was not included, but the juice was, which incidentally was the best part of the deal. We had the watermelon & cranberry which was delicious. I may have made a wrong decision in my breakfast choice which was the salmon with corn fritter & eggs with hollandaise foam. The foam overpowered everything & I didn't like the fact it was poured over the bread & fritter as well. The fritter was basically raw- the salmon came finely sliced in a very small portion. My partner scored slightly better, he ordered the special which was savoury mince with egg-came served in a cute old fashioned pan, he said it was good but that he had had better. Back to those coffees I think it was Vittoria blend- very wishy washy with a huge amount of foam on the flat whites-not impressive for the $4.5 price tag

Ambience 7.5 Service 8 Fo.... Ambience 7.5<br/>Service 8 <br/>Food 7 <br/>Overall 7.5 <br/><br/>Cute location but some decor was a bit out of place and it would have been nice if you could sit outside. The food was ok but not as good as our expectations and overpriced for what it is. Will probably not be back.

Amazing. Winning dishes - scallop broth, duck pate, lamb belly was sooooo crispy and the meat was melt in your mouth, pork belly particularly its accompaniments and finally the pistachio, salted caramel dessert. Top food, very deserving of their chef hat!! Price is suitable - don't be stingey and share an entree or a dessert. They are on the smaller side but rightfully so as they were full of flavour! <br/><br/>Service: 10/10, a younger, very helpful girl who made it an enjoyable experience.<br/><br/>The venue itself is fine - it's small so hopefully you don't feel too awkward when you're the first and only table in the restaurant.

Don't Bother. Not a patch on its predecessor.<br/>Limited menu. The "antipasto" consists of two types of cheese and pate. Interesting.<br/>The market "fish of the day" was a seafood bisque.<br/>The wine list was reasonable but the only thing that excelled were the prices.<br/>You can do much better elsewhere<br/><br/><br/>-----19 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>Don't Bother. Good but not great. Overall we were happy enough with our recent dinner at 85 Miskin St. The lauded scallop broth entree was delicious, but we were disappointed that there was no actual scallop included in the course - yes should have read the menu properly. Hate to say, the mains were average at best. Had to add a ridiculous amount of table salt to my overly dry pork belly (unfortunately my dining partner's choice of protein was equally bland) and not convinced that the mandarin-ginger sorbet really belonged on the same plate. Dessert met expectations though and the service was faultless.

We had been really looking forward to eating here after reading some great reviews. Overall, we had a lovely night out with friends but felt the restaurant was a bit hit and miss. There were a couple of hiccups with the service although these were quickly and politely resolved. Some of the food was excellent (the salted caramel dessert was sublime, and strangley the fries were to die for). The meat was well executed however some of the flavour combinations were a bit strange. Not enough "bread" supplied with the dip and antipasto style entrees. Overall the portions aren't large and the price is on the higher side (agree with comments from other diners that you really need a couple of sides), although being byo the final bill wasn't exhorbitant.

Loved it, highly recommend. Mr B and I had a wonderful dining experience at 85 Miskin Street tonight. It all started from an email subscription with the latest dinner menu attached. Mind you, it was earlier this week... The menu sounded really fancy and dishes were reasonably priced. I decided to reply and ask if there were any gluten free options on the menu. I got a response back quite quickly. (I was quite surprised, as I have asked a few places and never got a response). <br/><br/>Restaurant Manager Kylie, had taken the time to highlight items that were gluten free friendly and/or could be altered to be gluten free... which was almost every item on the menu :-D I showed this to Mr B and he was stoked so we made a dinner reservation. <br/><br/>The entree, mains and dessert were wonderful. The "braised beef" (special) was soooo tender, it melted in your mouth and it looked like pulled-pork :-) haha Mr B's "slow cooked eye fillet" was also cooked to perfection. The eye fillet was so tender that a normal knife just cuts through the meat without any issues. And the dessert... when the waitress bought over a little pot plant, Mr B and I were both confused... it was actually the "passionfruit, meringue, vanilla, white balsamic and garden flowers" (edible of course). Hmm awesome.<br/> <br/>Overall, it was a wonderful experience, from the moment we stepped through the doors. Mr B and I highly recommend to other diners out there. We will certainly be returning to try the breakfast and lunch menu in the near future.

Disappointed and a little confused. Having dined at the previous incarnation of this restaurant quite a number of times over the last 10 years my wife & I were excited to give the refreshed restaurant a try. The ambiance is a little lacking in the restyled restaurant and with the hard floors there are little soft furnishings to dampen the noise when he restaurant is full as it was on the night we visited. The lighting was also at the annoying "feel like I want to go to sleep level". The service was not fantastic and at the prices been charged, the service needs to be spot on to avoid been disappointed and on the night we visited it was far from spot on. As for the food this is where my wife and I were a little confused, the combination of flavours were a little strange and the servings sizes where minuscule for the price. Probably the most disappointing was their only been one side available that resembled a salad or vegetable side, been the cucumber slaw, really this is not good enough for fine dining. Overall we are in no rush to go back.

Over Promised, Over Priced and Under Performed. Having lived in the Brisbane inner south west all my life I had lost count of how many times we have driven past this Restaurant on the woop-dee-doop hill street behind BBC (reference to the G-Force you get from driving your car over the steep little incline mid way on the Street where this place is located). We finally decided after reading several reviews and noting that the Entertainment Guide rated it as Best Restaurant, to try it out. So my wife, 2 close friends we met in Italy and myself walked in to this place, all for the very first time, with high hopes........ <br/><br/>The place is homely in feel.... the staff were friendly.... but the food which is perhaps the most important aspect of any restaurant was.......well where do I begin... <br/><br/>My wife and I firstly ordered the scallops to share... when they arrived it was literally one scallop no bigger than a ten cent (10c) coin in a shell with some melted butter. There is no way in the world that could be shared between two taste buds let alone two people.....<br/><br/>We were told Kangaroo was on the special and I ordered that (I love this local lean healthy meat) not less than 5 minutes after ordering I was met with a ... "Sorry we don't have any left"...... ok... disappointed I went with the next closest thing.. steak.<br/><br/>Along arrived the steak on a plate..... which was literally one piece of steak cooked and then sliced on a plate with a little mustard in a small cup on the side... the steak was not bad, but it was not melt in your mouth stuff... I get better steak from my local butcher and cook it at home.. the kicker is you are paying close to $50 for a plate with a steak on it.... there was no Vegetable no Mash no Potatoes no Beans no Caramelised Onion it was just a mediocre steak sliced on a plate.... the steak had not been given the opportunity to rest and the plate was covered in blood. .....<br/><br/>What type of food is this..? there was no generosity, no feeling or flow in the cooking and there was absolutely no love on the plate at all!<br/><br/>The entire experience left us dumb founded... how do people rate this place???? This was felt by all four of us at the table and discuss at length.... There is nothing worse than eating at a place and getting that badly done by feeling.....it was so bad that I felt compelled to write this review and I have never made the effort to write a review in the past.<br/><br/>In hind sight we had done well not to have eaten there in some 35 years of living in Brisbane and I will certainly only enjoy the G-Force as you hit the little hill driving past this restaurant because there certainly was nothing else to enjoy there.

Excellent. Last night my wife and I decided to try this restaurant after never being there before. Great food, excellent wine selection. Scallops, .Pork belly and goat was done to a tee. Loved the Chilean red wine. Service was excellent. Only slight negative it was a little noisey. Thank you for a very pleasurable evening and we will definitely be back.

No longer Brent's and TERRIBLE. What a terrible place to eat! Wanted to get up and leave before we put any food in our mouths. The noise!!! my husband and I went out for a nice meal and chat as he had been away for a few days. I had to yell to be heard and then just gave up. The acoustics are terrible. Not a quiet place to eat. Food was nice put way overpriced for the size. Left hungry and $107 out of pocket for a small loaf of bread and mini meal

Closing on 24th December- we were so sad to hear this news had to go once more. As we have come to expect the food service and ambience was amazing. Thanks Brent for sensational food that we've enjoyed when celebrating many special occasions.

Hidden gem. Have dined here twice now and both fantastic experiences. <br/><br/>The experience feels like you've been invited to a chef's home and they have a table just for you in the corner. The restaurant is nestled in a residential district and the dining areas are nicely separated for a homely feel.<br/><br/>The first time we had the degustation, par for the course for value and quality. Returning a second time I enjoyed a lamb neck (succulent) and the partner had the venison (excellent).<br/><br/>Friendly service is spot on with timing so looking forward to returning.

Went to Brents tonight and it was fabulous! We had the Gourmand Menu and everything was delicious! The highlight for me was the mushroom cappuccino while my partner loved the steak and brussels sprout main. The service was excellent and the whole experience is one I will definitely be raving about in the future.

Beautiful food with a twist that makes each plate exciting. Immaculate presentation. Only downside would be patchy service, but no worse than some other very popular and busy venues.

Pricey, refined food for a distinguished palate. Service was excellent.

Love love love. Well worth a try! The gourmand menu was amazing.

I'll always come back. Service is impeccable and the food always ceases to amaze me!

Wonderful. We come back again and again to this wonderful place. We love the confit duck entree!

Celebrated my husbands birthday dinner for 2 at Brent's. The service was outstanding, presentation and flavours of dishes were beautiful. The Mushroom Cappuccino and Deconstructed Banoffee Pie were the highlights.

Amazing The food was lovely.... Amazing<br/>The food was lovely. Modern yet homely flavours. Service friendly & knowledgeable. <br/>Will def be back

Very Disappointing, the food is over priced and portions are very small. When you stop at McDonalds after a $250.00 dinner for two you know something is wrong.

A promising start, a disappointing end. We had dinner here on Friday night, ordering the Romantic Package. The Amuse Bouche & Entree were delicious, the Mains were nice enough but nothing special...& then, the waiting...a half hour until our plates were cleared...& after another 15 minutes, we chased dessert. Over 45 minutes wait between mains & dessert really took the shine off the evening. The dessert was certainly not worth the wait either. It was passable but again, nothing special. We asked for the bill, which was presented & then it was like all the staff had disappeared. We ended up leaving the money & walking out without any acknowledgement. Our "Brent's Dining Experience" was certainly a disappointment & we won't be returning. Such a shame!

Presentation maestro. The BF took me there as a surprise for our 10 months anniversary in Sept 2012. At first I was feeling a little lethargic as I had work that day but as soon as I tasted the Mushroom cappucino, my mind felt awakened. It's as if the aromatic soup really did contain caffeine. Our other salad entree was simply gorgeous (forgot the name, please refer to photos) as it was presented with edible flowers. <br/><br/>We also had the sorbet palate cleansers to prepare us for the mains. The waitress had a strong accent so I couldn't make out what she was saying but I believe it was 'lemon' flavoured? Regadless, the mains were exquisite. The Bf ordered the steak with duck fat potatoes whilst I chose the more creative duck dish served with sorbet and licorice wafer. Both meat dishes were great. Only flaw was that the licorice was a little hard to chew, and felt like eating sticky toffee. For dessert we chose a beautifully presented chocolate platter which was packed with surprises (see photo). My favourite was the mousse served in a cone shaped glass, and I dound the others a little too sweet. Overall i give Brent's 9/10, thank you for a wonderful night.

Another Birthday there. We come back to the Brents every so often but our last time being yesterday 12-12-12 was a bit dissapointment. The place look terrible bare, no decoration, no color, NO Christmas atmosphere. I think previous years , maybe under other management, it was more cheerful. The portions as another writer says: way too small. You pay over 30 dollars for lucky if 100 grams of meat. The one thing it really disturbed was that the waiter (surely under instructions) comes with each meal and lectures you about what it is ,mentioning the lenght of ingredients. This is the first and only place where the waiter/cook takes priority and center stage of the 'romantic; meal. My husband and I were interrupted from our conversation time and time again to hear the ingredients of the coming course. I believe a good waiter is one whose presence is not felt and is there when needed. My experience yesterday was that I was not celebrating my birthday and a very special date, but one where we paid to be 'educated?' on ingredients. Iam a good cook myself and needed no help to know what I was eating. Perhaps the cook should wait to hear compliments and no impose himself.
Mike Sultan
The meals are way too small for the price. We all left still hungry.

Not bad but not fine dining. Went to Brents with my husband for our aniversary because of the great reviews it had here, and I had to wonder if people were talking about the same restaurant! I did not find anything about the food, the service or the atmosphere that rated the "fine dining" tag.<br/><br/>The atmosphere: The restaurant is in a converted shopfront. The interior has vertical groove panelling painted in tasteful colors, and some paintings, but the effect was more homey, like being in someone's loungeroom. The decor item that stood out to me was a large urn of flowers next to our table, on first glance they looked lovely, but closer inspection revealed they were PLASTIC.It was also quite bright and noisy, and the side plates were dirty.<br/><br/>The service: The service wasn't bad, per se, the staff were polite, the orders were correct, and the wait for the meals to arrive was no longer than one would expect for a busy Saturday night. The issue I have was that the entire wait staff appeared very, very young, and all seemed nervous and inexperienced. One even joked about his McDonalds training kicking in. Unfortuately that is about the level they were at. Certainly none had the bearing or confidence required. Everytime the waitress filled our glasses she spilled the water.<br/><br/>The food: The biggest disappointment of the night. Decontructed food, unusual combinations of ingredients and quinelles everywhere do not automatically make it fine dining! Some dishes worked - My husband had the duck confit, which was nice, as was the duck pate appetiser , but the blue cheese gnocci was awful. The dish consisted of 4 pan fried pieces of gnocci 3 largish cubes of blue cheese, some kind of crunchy sweet candied walnuts and 3 unidentifiable pale green cylinders, all just sitting on a plate at room temperature. The cylinders tasted like some kind of bland melon, only not sweet, but after looking at the menu I can only conclude that it was the pear. The gnocci tasted ok, and the cheese was ok, and if it had been in a sauce on the gnocci it would have been great, but as it was nothing blended or complemented each other, the flavours were all separate and jarring.<br/><br/>We both found the evening a big letdown, the heart of the dining experience has got to be the food, but between us we tried 8 different dishes, and not one dish of lot was exciting or left you wanting more.

Really nice experience. Great food, great service. You definitely get what you pay for here!!

Can't wait to go again. Oh my goodness it was nearly 2 years ago now that my husband and I came here on our wedding night after an afternoon bash. Love the atmosphere and staff, food was exquisite. It's only a place for special occasions but I hope I get to come back one day.

LOVE this place. I love this place. Had an excellent meal there on the spur of the moment. Gnocci is to die for.

A great night , excellent dining experience! We booked on the night 30 minutes prior to arriving. The wait staff were professional and friendly. The meal was wonderful and serving sizes just right . We will definitely go back !!!

Quality food, venue needs a facelift. First time at Brents for an anniversary dinner. Chose not to follow the 'romantic package' as it wasn't much more expensive to order three courses from the menu, with the option of having a variety of wines by the glass rather than the single bottle required in the package. Excellent food from the amuse bouche onwards. Waitstaff friendly and helpful (... and generous when pouring). Really good value, but the experience would have been improved by a more modern interior - especially the bathrooms.<br/>Reminded me somewhat of Azafran in Annerley, good quality suburban dining although at a higher standard.
Orange Blossom Special
Twas a fine dining experience indeed. Everything about Brent’s is fine dining: The white table cloths topped with elegant settings, romantic candle light, professionally friendly staff dressed all in black, multiple tiered courses if you choose to eat that way, rich and delicious high quality food with prices, in the end, being quite reasonable. Definitely an experience.<br/><br/>My partner and I had planned on going to Brent’s for a celebratory dinner (Sept 8) and were told that this restaurant was a great place for special evenings. Walking in, I was amazed at how beautifully the restaurant was set up and laid out. Each table was either turned slightly or was straight-facing creating an element of privacy as not to be staring at the patrons around you. In that we did have a reservation, the hostess led us to our table which we were happy to discover was right in the window.<br/><br/>Asking if we’d like a drink, my partner went with flat water while I decided to have the sparkling ($7.50) which was a bottle large enough for me to have 2 glasses.<br/><br/>Looking over the A la Carte menu, there were a lot of choices with categories including Appetisers ($4-8.50), Entrees ($22-24) and Mains ($38-39) as well as Palate Cleansers ($3), Sides, which were your vegetables ($8-9) and of course, Desserts, including Coffee Liqueurs($12-15). There was also a Romantic Package ($175) which was a 6 course meal complete with a bottle of wine.<br/><br/>We decided to start off with the Pasta dura bread with truffle & parmesan butter ($8.50). My partner wanted to try the Market white fish, which was Barramundi, with tomato confit, peas, pancetta and crispy potatoes in a bouillabaisse sauce ($39) and I went for the Slow cooked eye fillet with duck fat potatoes, field mushroom and beef tartare & truffle cream on the side ($39). We were told that my eye fillet would take 40 minutes, but it didn’t matter as we were in no rush.<br/><br/>A short while later another waitress appeared and with a white glove, set the table and put our napkins on our laps. She also set out a bread plate and butter knife for both my partner and I and within a relaxing amount of time later, our pasta dura bread appeared. The well-timed service was impeccable!<br/><br/>The bread was a nice sized loaf, larger than we thought it was going to be and cut into four pieces. It was warm and smelled fantastic. The truffle and parmesan butter was whipped unbelievably light and was fabulous to spread. The taste was rich with the distinct taste of parmesan and the texture was like silk. Tremendous!<br/><br/>It was a none-rushed comfortable time later when our meals appeared. The aroma was the first tease to our senses. My partner’s barramundi was beautifully crispy on the top, fresh and tender throughout and delicate in flavour which was complimented by the deep, rich broth-like bouillabaisse sauce finished off with peas and a decent amount of pancetta, cooked somehow to a perfect crispness that didn’t go soggy from being in the sauce. The potatoes on the other hand, were a bit more sparse and did lose their crispiness as they had soaked up the sauce. That part was unfortunate but overall my partner thought it was outstanding!<br/><br/>My eye fillet was succulent and tender, juicy and moist and absolutely perfect. The slow cooking of it made it so easy to cut and sink my teeth into. There was an over-generous amount of beef tartare that seemed more obvious due to the lack of starch on my plate to absorb it. Rice may have been a good option for this abundance. But I did have two pieces of duck fat potato which was the most incredible thing I’ve ever tasted! The duck fat certainly added a unique but rich savoury flavour during the coking of the potatoes. They complimented the deeply intense flavour of the beef tartare sauce and truffle cream. My meal stated that on the menu that it came with field mushrooms, however, I failed to notice them as they weren’t apparent. I’m wondering if the mushrooms may have been reduced by the amount of time they had been cooked. Although I would have liked some more veggies on my plate, I am aware that in French cuisine vegetables are often lacking. I know there was a “sides” category, but I didn’t want to pay an additional $8-9. I know I’m just stating my preference, so overall I can easily say that this meal was superb in every way!<br/><br/>With both of us more than satisfied with our meals and experience, my partner and I left Brent’s after many pleasantries from the staff. This certainly was the place to go for the special evening we were having. It was nice to be pampered and spoiled with the exquisite attention to detail paid on all levels.<br/><br/>I would highly recommend this place for not only birthdays and anniversaries, but also for romantic evenings as well.
Craig
Easily one of the if not the best fine dining restaurant in Brisbane. The restaurant is very unique and has a nice atmosphere. Food was 1st class, as our table of 4 all ordered 3 courses so we saw most of the menu. Similar quality to Restsurant 2 but perhaps a little better

It is an experience, it was worth trying. Came here as a group of 4 for my mum's birthday dinner. It's tucked away on a residential street in Toowong and would be pretty easy to miss if you weren't really looking out for it. When we arrived we were greeted by a polite waitress who showed us to our table. We ordered a few appetisers to try (mushroom cappuccino, duck liver pate), an entree (fried goats cheese), palate cleansers, and the mains (confit duck, beef cheek, pork belly and mushroom risotto). All the food was beautifully presented and some flavours were very interesting. I thought the beef cheek with the smooth and silky mash was just amazing. The beef cheek was literally melt in your mouth! <br/><br/>The staff there saw us giving presents to my mum, and when dessert came out they had "happy birthday" written on the plate and there was a candle as well! It was so thoughtful that they did this without us even having to mention it was her birthday. <br/><br/>The beautiful food, the attentiveness of the staff and the very comfortable setting made for a lovely dinner. We used 2 entertainment book vouchers (buy 1 get 1 free main meal) and it came to $50 per person - so it definitely is not cheap, but definitely worth it for the dining experience!

OMG!. My wife and I introduced my Mum to Brents Restaurant. It ticked every box and so many more. We have been here twice and can't even compare it to other, so called fine dining restaurants in Brisbane. Brents is not pretentious! Its taste. Pure and simple. Just go there!

Best Kept Secret. Brent's sensational degustation (6 tastes) lunchtime menu for $50 is a delight. Great food and good service - who could ask for more.

Not Quite. Let's start by saying that Brents is a wonderful place in terms of ambiance and certainly exudes the feeling of a fine dining restaurant. Being based in a suburban house provides a warm and inviting place to sit and enjoy some food. There's a split level dining area with the top floor providing both secluded rooms as well as a larger space with windows to the herb garden out back. Overall the design is modern and tasteful. Unfortunately the early impressions were tainted when we found that two of our wine classes had been tabled with chips out of them. Not major, but if you want to be a fine dining restaurant then things like this should be observed more closely. This wasn't the only problem the restaurant showed in terms of attention to detail but more on that later. We opted for the Gourmand menu as it seemed to provide a good cross-section of what the chef had to offer. <br/><br/>To start with there was an Amuse Bouche which was presented as some cream cheese in a shot glass with citrus cured salmon. Tasty, but nothing special and showed nothing in terms of preparation or skill. <br/>Next was a wild mushroom cappuccino with prosciutto dust. A nicely done appetiser which provided good flavour blended with some imaginative presentation.<br/>Next, crumbed & fried goats cheese, beetroot & sorbet, candied pecan & charcoal lavosh. Wonderful presentation - good ingredients and flavours individually, but given that a tiny piece of fried cheese is the star, it's really too simple and doesn't offer much in terms of technique. Beetroot sorbet was again, nice, but simple and overall the mix of flavours didn't actually work well in unison. <br/>Next, red claw yabby, citrus cured salmon, cucumber, melon, nasturtium & mandarin jam - probably one of the stand outs on the degustation. Heavily biased towards citrus flavours which worked very nicely in combination with the yabby. Very tasty!<br/>Next, something billed as a "Palette Cleanser"..Chartreuse marshmallow, compressed apple, cucumber snow & milk wafer. Absolutely horrible in every way. How on earth the quite pungent herbal flavours of Chartreuse mixed with sugary whipped egg-white and cucumber is meant to cleanse your palette was beyond us. In fact the whole table found it a mismatched attack on your taste buds which lingered horribly for the remainder of the night. A definite blemish which should be gotten rid of. <br/>Next came a crispy confit duck which was another of the stand out dishes. Wonderfully soft and flavoursome meat, mould pressed and presented as a slice topped with crispy skin and some very intense lemon curd. Also included was a waver of liquorice which worked very nicely with the meat. <br/>Next, slow cooked beef cheek, paris mash, sautéed mushroom, prosciutto & garlic croutons. Yet another well prepared dish, but very simple. Attention to detail was lacking in this dish as one plate was presented without the garlic croutons. What was even more disappointing was the fact that no offer was made to replace the dish. Not really acceptable when you pay for fine dining.. sorry. <br/>Next came a plate of soft blue cheese with fig cooked in Pedro Jimenez Sherry. Acceptable but apart from the fig, nothing to showcase the Chef's talents. <br/>Finally, a desert plate consisting of coffee & fennel seed ice cream, chocolate sponge, aerated chocolate and genache. Since the menu is French inspired we'd placed high expectations on the deserts, however this turned out to be another great disappointment. The aerated chocolate was undoubtedly a piece of Cadbury Aero-bar - gimmicky and quite frankly dreadful in terms of flavour! The sponge cake was dry and flavourless. The remainder of the chocolate was also sub-standard and fell well below expectations. How difficult is it to make a ganache and pipe a string of it on a platter. Very unimaginative, showing very little technique - nicely plated but horribly executed when you consider that his meant to be fine dining.<br/><br/>Whilst still a fine dining experience, overall it was quite disappointing considering that the restaurant was awarded a Chef's Hat this year. Lots of places can pretend to be fine dining, but few actually manage to pull it off consistently and unfortunately Brents didn't do so for us on this night. You don't go fine dining to look for value, so the price (at a minimum of 100 per head) remains reasonable for a degustation, although the ingredients should be top class which unfortunately they weren't in several cases. A lot of people will walk away from here impressed (probably mainly due to the presentation of the food and the air of exclusivity that a place like this offers), but true food lovers will undoubtedly be disappointed. There are some nice elements, but realistically you don't have to search far to find food at an equal or better level and at a cheaper price point. Presentation was always good, service on par, however the delivery was a little too slow and lacking attention to detail. The mix of flavours was often confused and most of all there wasn't enough in terms of technique and imagination to show-case what's possible at this level. I'm guessing that many return customers would do so only to savour a few favourites but I can't see anyone wanting to repeat the degustation here.

Just had an awesome birthday dinner at Brent's . Service was fantastic and food was divine! Highly recommend this place. We will be going back again!!!

I am so glad my first fine dining was here. We did the Gourmand option for $99 each without wines. The standouts for us was the blue swimmer crab with apple granita, it was so beautiful I could have eaten a few more lol. The confit duck crispy was gorgeous, the lychee, lime and strawberry palet cleanser was to die for. The only dish that didn't quite do it was the candied bacon, chocolate and marscapone dessert which as a sweets lover was a bit weird. Oh yeah and the truffle Brie mmmm mmmmm .

Brisbanes BEST Restaurant. I have been to Brent's on 3 occasions now... All 3 times I have gone with the gourmand menu as it is seriously the BEST IN BRISBANE! This is hands-down one of Brisbane's best hidden gems. There is not one other Restaurant that I recommend more than this for a special occasion - if only I could afford to eat here every week! The price is well worth it, and I have always been very impressed by the impeccable service from staff. I can't wait to eat there again =)

Sensational. There are alot of places in Brisbane that are all talk and no action. Brents is certainly not one of them!!<br/>Hidden away in a gorgeous house setting Brents creates a stunning atmosphere of class and elegance, without being pretentious. And quite frankly, they are well within their rights to be. <br/>I attended Christmas eve and had the Romantic Package. <br/>It was 8 courses of pure culinary sensation!! The waitress was friendly and polite and the food was bought out at just the right times. I could rave on and on about the food it was complete perfection. Every bite almost exploded with flavour in your mouth, it certainly was an experience.<br/>The goats cheese entree was simply stunning. Desert was simply sensational! We easily spent 3 hours there enjoying the food, wine and atmosphere was a perfect evening. I would happy rate them my number 1 Brisbane restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Fine dining alright!. Faultless food. Faultless service. Faultless evening. My evening enjoying the delights of the 'Romance' menu was made all the more special by the friendly service of the attentive Bonny, who did an excellent and effortless job of explaining each sophisticated dish, the textural elements as well as the ingredients and what surprises might lurk behind each dish. Second best meal I've had in the last decade, bettered only in Mexico last year at the 5 star dining room of the Hilton Los Carbos.<br/>Very, very good.<br/>Oh, awesome red with the meal as well.

What an experience!!. WOW! I was lucky enough to be able to book a table at this wonderful suburban restaurant a day before my partners birthday and I couldn't thank that luck enough! I could just go on and on and on about this restaurant but that would probably take forever! This place is amazing, from the feel of the place, to the service to the food, to the moment you walk out those doors..... OMG! It is definitely fine dining at it's peak! I recommend this to everyone! Trust me you will not be disappointed!!!!

Love, Love, Love. I think I need to declare Brent's as my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. We have been about 10 times in total now, including Christmas Day lunch - it was AMAZING. The owner is very dedicated and hard working, and the staff are always amazingly attentive and dedicated. If you're looking for a venue for a special occasion that you can always count on for consistency in terms of food, service and value for money (they are BYO, although also have an impressive wine list), Brent's is the place to be!

Best food I've had in Brisbane! Had a degustation menu here with wine. Was pretty expensive but well worth it. The waitress we had was the only negative in the whole night. Not very friendly and seemed vague. Still the best food!

Favourite in Brisbane. This is our favourite restaurant in Brisbane hands down. The bouillabaisse is always amazing. My husband talks about his beef cheek for days after. Highly recommend.

Had a brilliant night!. Beautiful food, fantastic and attentive waiters and lovely surroundings....a perfect special night out without leaving the suburbs. Bravo Brents!!!

Superb. We ate at Brent's twice and enjoyed it very much on both occasions. This time it was a 6 coure dinner with matching wines. The food was superb and went exceptionally well with the wines. Staff are very attentive and add to the pleasurable experience. Make sure you check out the loo too.

Number 1. Probably the best meal and service that I have ever had in Brisbane.

Exquisite dining experience , the only downfalls were the fact they charged for a palate cleanser as opposed to it being a compliment for their food and when I requested a martini the only vodka they had was smirnoff red which I thought was a little low rent for the experience of this restraunt and it's quality.

Best in Brisbane?. Would have to say that this would be at the top of the list for restaurants in Brisbane. The service was fantastic. The wait staff were extremely helpful with the wine list and also gave us a sample of the wines they recommended prior to taking our order.<br/>The food was brilliant. The flavour and presentation of each dish was spot on.<br/>Will definitely be back, and will try their degustation menu!

French Food in BNE. We took our two young boys to Brents last week after hearing some good comments about this restaurant.... and what can I say.... the food were great! the service was good, they even prepare the kids meal for my two boys which they love it and finished all (not fish and chips, they were proper restaurant quality food), we tried their famous "Wild mushroom cappuccino, truffle oil & prosciutto dust" to start and it was great! then we had "Spanner crab, green apple granita, chive crème fraiche & baby herb" and "Citrus cured salmon, lobster, cucumber, citrus jam, compressed melon & lemon oil" for entree.... the snapper crab dish was so refresh, some many favours in one dish and I guess this is what French food is famous for. <br/>For main we had "Crispy confit duck, butternut pumpkin, lemon curd & liquorice wafer" and "Market fish of the Day", and with no surprise, they were great, you really appreciate from the presentation of the dish to the flavour of the food....<br/>By this time, we were so full that we must miss out the dessert this time. We thought we will leave something out so we have an excuse to come back again!

A Divine Experience. Have been the this restaurant several times and had always had an amazing experience. Starting from a waiter politely greeting you at the door, to delivering you to intimate, relaxed surroundings, the wait staff have always been excellent and well versed in the menu on offer.<br/><br/>Highlights for me have to be :<br/><br/>- Homemade Duck liver pate, port syrup & toasted brioche, it just melts in the mouth<br/><br/>- Spanner crab, green apple granita, chive crème fraiche & baby herb, a delicate entree with well matched flavours<br/><br/>- Any special with a seafood bisque<br/><br/>- Beef cheeks, rich, soft beef<br/><br/>- their divine selection of cheeses and homemade lavosh<br/><br/>and, of course, their brand new addition to the dessert menu, Black Forest Floor - enough for 2 (although my husband has declared he's not sharing next time), an incredible creation of dark chocolate and other amazing ingredients to create the effect of a forest floor on a marble slab - even if you don't fancy it, get the wiater to describe how they've created it, that'll be an experience in itself.<br/><br/>OK, so I need to stop now as I realise that I sound like their marketing department ....<br/><br/>Top marks, all around :-)

Fantastic food in the suburbs!. We dined at Brent's for my hubby's birthday last October and both of us (foodies) loved every course & the service was brilliant! Couldn't fault this lovely suburban restaurant...no more city disappointments for us. So much looking forward to taking a group of friends there again in June. Well done Brent's we rate you highly!

You have to try the beef cheeks... I don't usually fine dine. But my partner took me out to Brent's as a treat. <br/><br/>We sat upstairs in a small room. We were the only ones there at the time which was fine. We decided that we didn't mind a bit of privacy.<br/><br/>We had all 3 appetizers that were listed on the menu. Mushroom capuccino was absolutely beautiful. Asparagus broth w prosciutto dust was a warm hug in a shot glass. Wasn't a fan of the toasted brioche w house made duck liver pate, only because I don't like the taste of the pate itself.<br/><br/>My partner had the cheese platter dish for the entree. A very small dish for $25. However, I understand the ingredients can be accountable for that price. There was a lot going on that plate. All I can say is that the flavours were really flirting with you. Only for the adventurous.<br/><br/>For mains, I had the slow cooked beef cheeks with truffle oil mash, caramelised onions and prosciutto. A very rich hearty dish. My partner had the pork belly and he had a side of kipfler fries. The pork belly dish had some sort of poached apple or pear icecream with it. That was different.<br/><br/>Service was good. I found the waiter's manner is very polite and attentive to start. When he served each meal, he explained exactly what was being served in detail. The only thing that disappointed me was that there wasn't much of a follow up. He only came back to clear our plates.<br/><br/>Overall, the only mistake I made was ordering all these dishes all at once on the same occasion. It was really rich with all the cheese, soups, and meat combined with the jus on the plate. Not to mention that raspberry sorbet that was on the cheese entree and the icecream on the pork belly dish. <br/><br/>My palate got a thrashing that night!<br/><br/>But if I do go next time, I'll stick to one appetizer and a main.

Once is bad luck, twice is proof.. Sadly we will now be ensuring everyone we know doesn't head to Brents. We have been to muych worse restaurants, but it's in its very near success that its failure lies. <br/><br/>Brents' food has never been a disappointment. But nearly all dishes we've eaten there have had one or two things wrong. Not wrong in a send back to the kitchen wrong, but wrong in that it was unnecessary or didn't add to the dish. Too twee, too overwrought and pointlessly complicated. If Brents focussed on their food and simplified what they are trying to do, the food would be a stand out, even despite the high prices.<br/><br/>But when it comes to service, one must expect more at McDonalds. Astonishingly incompetent, inattentive or boastful of their supposed prowess, no member of service has yet managed to be close to average. All have been shades of awful that is bewildering in an establishment that's lasted this long.<br/><br/>Although waiting an hour for bread after ordering? A failure that can only be shared by the entire establishment. <br/><br/>If you want to spend good money on a fantastic experience, avoid Brents like the plague. If you want to spend good money on an experience that fails on so many levels, go right ahead.

Maybe my favourite. Restaurant in Brisbane. I've eaten here several times and never been disappointed. Much more creative dishes than Aria and much more reasonable prices. Friendly, helpful service and superb food. I love to try new places but I keep coming back here.

Superb and stylish. Brents is the kind of place that deservs the best of reviews because it is one of the best restaurants in Brisbane. Seamless service, fabulous cuisine, gorgeous wines and a great atmosphere. There's nothing here not to like and it's one of my favourites.

A fabulous dining experience. The pork entree is delicious and choosing a main from the creative choices is a challenge. Add to this that you can BYO your favourite wine and the service is attentive.

Fabulous. Went there with 30 friends and had a wonderful intimate evening with great food and service

Hidden Gem. Wow, imagine if this little gem was in the city, the prices would be a great deal higher. Great value, interesting food. Loved Bruno's but i think this is better. Fantastic

Experience at a Premium Price. Its nice to have the experience but when expectations are shattered with poor cuts of meat, smaller than expected servings and grossly priced wines, it wins no customers. Would I take friends there - no. Would I like to be taken there for a gift dinner... I was asked that this month and I chose an alternative place at New Farm! adieu

All Class. Brents is a very upmarket fine dining style of restaurant. When we went the meals and the service were both first class.<br/><br/>I found the atmosphere a little quiet, but I suppose that's to be expected in this style of restaurant.<br/><br/>It's quite tucked away and not that easy to find (my taxi driver had trouble).<br/><br/>Perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion.

Beef cheek Bliss. This sort of restaurant is not normally my caper but after visiting Brent's for the first time we have been back 3 times in short succession the food is size is smaller but is really meant to be eaten over quite a few courses we get the $150 set course for 2 this includes a bottle of wine and all the dishes that go with it. the stand out dish without a doubt is the beef cheeks you absolutely have to try this and when in season the crispy skin Barramundi entree is a winning combination. I left feeling perfectly full as normally I'll eat until my belt snaps this was a welcome change

Great service and good, not huge portions. The service at Brent's really does border on perfect. This is an excellent place to bring a date that you wish to impress.<br/><br/>Individually the dishes are also very impressive. Probably my only gripe is that I left hungry. My partner was happy though, so I'd say, perfect for girls, but guys have a sandwich before you go.

Overpriced. "Good" priced at "Spectacular". The entrees were main priced and the rabbit entree was laughingly small.

This is a high class restaurant, the service & food excellent. We will definately be going back

Fine dining, not fine food.. The venue oozes class and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately all 5 of the dishes tried were completely underwhelming. <br/><br/>I'm disappointed to say that I've had many better meals at upper-market pubs and bars - I had hoped for so much more. Ultimately, when the bottle of wine is the highlight of your taste experience, you start to wish you had bought that bottle and cooked at home.<br/><br/>Your money is best spent elsewhere, if you're looking for the whole fine dining experience.

13/11/09. Brent's is a very classy fine diner tucked into a little suburban shopfront in Toowong. There's a bit of old world charm about this place - the friendly Maitre d' opens the door and and a waiter seats you and napkins your knees with starched linen. It seems a world away from the glizty Brizvegas waterfront.<br/><br/>We ordered the dinner for two package ($150) which is excellent value and included the following<br/><br/>amuse bouche (a shot of roasted vegetable soup, for example)<br/>appetiser - ( we had a Wild mushroom cappuccino with truffle oil & prosciutto "dust" and a <br/>warm and crunchy pasta dura bread roll with white truffle butter)<br/>entre<br/>between-course sorbet<br/>mains<br/>dessert<br/>bottle of wine<br/><br/>The food is real foodies food, with combinations that are both intruiging and delicious. For example, a crispy confit duck comes with butternut pumpkin, eureka lemon ice cream & liquorice wafer. We're told that the duck breast as been skinned, cooked in its own fat for I-forget-how-long, rewrapped in its skin and finished in the pan. The ice cream and wafer may sound weird but make perfect sense once tasted. Even the sorbet's are exquisitely presented - when a dollop on a spoon would have kept us happy.<br/><br/>There was really nothing not to like. We'll be returning when the budget permits. Even the cheese platter looks like it would be worth the trip.<br/><br/>Glen

Great professional service, amazing flavours and a bathroom that needs to be visited to truly appreciate the dining experience that is Brent's.

A few weeks ago, I decided to try out the degustation menu at Brent's with a friend of mine. Brent's is a restaurant located at the bottom of a very steep road in one of Brisbane's inner city suburbs. It offers an a la carte menu, but is largely known for the different degustation menus that it offers. Not long ago, for the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, the restaurant created a special Edwardian 10-course degustation menu based on the dishes served in the first class dining saloon on April 14, 1912 - the last meal of the first class passengers. It's an interesting

At his creative best, Brent challenged us with his citrus cured salmon with edible ants (yes, real ants), rosehip sorbet, radish and a herb crème fraiche. It was beautifully presented and subtle to eat, with a hint of rose contrasting with the citrus cured salmon. The cured salmon was the base for the colourful and creative dish that, not for the last time, would include a sweet sorbet as part of the dish.

I've had some amazing food in my life and some spectacular bisques and soups but once I had a little sip of the scallop broth, my senses almost shut down. A second sip confirmed that I was onto something unique and a third affirmed my belief that I had just consumed the single best food substance in my life.

The service on the night was excellent, as befitting a silver service dining experience, the waiters were unobtrusive, but there when you needed them. It was definitely tip worthy! I love Brent's and upon reflection wonder why I don't get our there more often, some of my favorite dishes ever have come from the Brents kitchen (love the seafood bisque!). I think its much easier for me to walk across the street to my 'local' hot spots, perhaps I need to reconsider what the suburbs have to offer in future!<br/>

The atmosphere inside Brent's was very relaxed but it still had the fine dining feel to it. It wasn't one of those places where you felt like you had to whisper to the person next to you and act extremely proper. The staff were all very friendly, polite and informative about the food which I think was great otherwise I wouldn't have a clue as to what I was eating. Brent's is another restaurant I would be happy to return to!

At $45 per person, the dessert degustation will take your senses and taste buds for an incredible ride. The presentation of the dishes are artistically breathtaking, not to mention that the flavours were equally interesting (and dare I say innovative).

The pork belly was perfectly cooked with an expertly done crackling on top, with a subtle mandarin glaze that was not overpowering. We loved how there were different textures and temperatures with each dish, and here the ginger and chilli was actually a delicious sorbet.

But whilst the setting may be simple, the food carries a depth of flavour and sophistication the likes of which we have struggled to find elsewhere. Tempted by the degustation menu, we strayed from the path and decided to create a small banquet of our own. The waitress (friendly and confident) took our orders and shortly returned to set our table from scratch based on what we'd ordered - a nice touch compared to others which simply remove redundant cutlery. She returned shortly after w

The highlights of the meal were the mushroom cappuccino, crispy flat head fillet with sweet pea mousse, pink eyes, tar tare whip and lemon, the slow-cooked

I read about Brents somewhere but didn't think much about it until recently, a friend told me he had a really good experience there. I'm not one to ignore a recommendation from a fellow foodie so I immediately made a booking.

This is so far the best French we had this year We have been to Brent’s for couple of times and every time there’s always surprises! Brent’s features a  Modern French menu created by the chef owner Brent Farrell. The location is a bit unusual, there are no shops or restaurants next to it but rather it’s situated in the suburban area with all the old houses. There are only street parking spots and Miskin St is a very very steep road, I found it tricky wearing my high heels and pushing the pram at the same time This is our first time bring  Little Monster  to fine dining, luckily he behaved very well for the entire night! Amuse Bouche  is the  Deep Fried Lamb Tongue . Very interesting! My favourite entree of the night:  Wild Mushroom Cappuccino with Truffle Oil. Tell you a little secret… I ordered this especially for  Little Monster because he loves truffles OMG! I am kind of regret introducing  truffles to him since  Kingsleys .  Pasta Dura Bread, Parmesan and Truffle Butter -  this has
