Review Bishamon Japanese Restaurant - Brisbane

Gilles De Leonardis
Pretty happy with the value of the curry-rice with pork cutlet and their agedashi tofu. The karahage were nice, but could have been softer. Will definitely go back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ awesome very tasty food 🍱 remember to always make a reservation to avoid being disappointed 😢 we had over ordered not knowing the generous portions being served here and had to get a doggy bag, which is a good thing👍

Food has always been incredible but there's this new waitress here that has incredibly bad attitude, being rude and condescending towards us for some reason. (Eg. Bad manners and leaving negative comments) Again, we have been here multiple times in years and it's been a five start experience for us previously. It's only this specific waitress that is giving us attitude and bringing down the whole experience, the rest of the crew was pleasant as always. Will return for food for sure in the future but definitely not the service. Hope things get better.

Had the thinly diced beef udon noodle soup, could not fault it. The flavour of the broth was incredibly rich yet clean and beef had a lovely aromatic flavour. I will be back! Ordered using their QR code system and friendly service. Thanks!

Great service great food. My son and I both enjoyed the Sukiyaki dinner. Especially with the “Tabehoudai” menu you can eat Wagyu beef as much as you like. The whole experience was awesome. We can’t wait to go back there again. Maybe we can try their bento box for lunch next time.

Extremely bland and flavourless hotpot, limited vegetables (except for some cabbage chunks and “carrot shavings”), couldn’t split the bill so had to use credit card, no plate provided just ‘eat out of the tiny rice bowl’. Very disappointing food and customer service experience.

We had the sukiyaki hot pot buffet. The meat was so fresh and tender, excellent quality and quantity. If you like sesame, you'll love the Black sesame ice cream (see the picture). Full of flavor. We had a great time dining in there. Thank you to the owner and the family.

Bishamon is always great place to go for dinner. I am lucky cuz I live so close to Bishamon so I go quite often. Their tempura is the best in Brisbane. But make sure if head chef works on that day. I tried when head chef was off, it was alright but was not as good as usual. Every single food is enjoyable. Thanks Bishamon :)

We love this place we try to go as much as possible- food is amazing so are the staff. Never had a bad experience here- it's a must go place

The best Japanese food we wouldn't go anywhere else for Japanese food !!!
Vivien Khoo
Food was good, especially the eat all you can buffet shabu shabu/sukiyaki. The wagyu beef was awesome!!!! Will definely visit again.
Amanda Joy
Lovely staff, great food! Sukiyaki and shabu shabu all you can eat is good value and it's always fresh.

A little gem 💎 of a restaurant! Wonderfully fresh, good quality and large portions (in my opinion). Highly recommended .

Great food and great service! Bishamon is my family's most favourite Japanese restaurant in Brisbane!

If you enjoy Japanese food then I think the best is right here in Brisbane . Yes i am biased,i do love Japanese food that is as good as that you find in Japan. If you haven't sampled the delicious food, attentive service and great atmosphere the best thing you can do is ring and make a booking.
Gail Reid
Food is always amazing and staff so friendly. Our group of 6 people last night included 2 first time diners, and they are so impressed. Love this restaurant. Thank you Keiko and Toshi San.
Carol Chang
Waiter attitude is very disrespectful. Came for dinner we don't need to get treated like that. Some of the employees need to be trained and learn how to be respectful. Very disappointed
Jenny Anderson
The food here is amazing and very generous servings.

I try something new each time but warning, bring an appetite.
Michelle Hunter
Excellent food, really enjoyed our meals thankyou

Excellent yummy food, friendly staff. Massive serves!!

The food is great and the servings are huge!

I’m sure the food here is delicious but customer service here is terrible. We didn’t make a reservation, and the place was pack instead of apologizing the lady at the counter just cut me off while I was speaking and said it was full house twice. She was not apologetic or polite at all as we did drive all the way to try it.
Geoff
Great Japanese - go for the food not the ambience -crowded noisy and a bit grimy BUT great food and buzz. Better than average Japanese not that food meets art sashimi style or theatrical teppan tricks but solid good quality food.
Martin Leung
Came on a Wednesday evening and it wasn’t super busy but have heard good things abt their all you can eat wagyu beef hotpot for $35.5/pp and it did not disappoint. They prepared a piping hot cast iron skillet and prepared the first batch of sukiyaki for us and it was delicious. A bit too salty for me but we could add water to the right taste! The Waygu wasn’t the best I’ve had but surely good quality for a buffet setting. Def worth going if you are feeling hungry and love beef !!

This place is something special. Unpretentious, genuine hearty food. Although the restaurant is not particularly decorated in a Japanese style, the service makes you feel like you are in a family home eating a home cooked meal. I would highly recommend for lunch. However I do not like if much for dinner - the menu and style of the restaurant changes.
Mildred
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Brisbane - excellent range of dishes, all delicious. The eggplant with miso is particularly delicious. It's not expensive either & in groovy location. I think they could do a little more with tables & chairs - they're a bit plastic & basic, when this place has the potential to feel a tad more special - the menu & the venue would justify it.
Tina Scrine
Good value-delicious food!! I had the chicken N set (number 8 on the current menu). It was delicious and a size that satisfied my food loving appetite. The service was friendly and polite. The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and clean. The restaurant is very popular at lunchtime during the week.

Ordered the sashimi don and niku don. The food is ok but a bit overpriced. I had higher expectation since the rating for this place is high.

Really bad service and bad English skill! I don’t know why this Japanese restaurant got rate 4.5? I won’t come here next time just because the service

I booked Bishamon for a friends catch up dinner, purely based on googling ‘Teppanyaki Brisbane’ and Bishamon popped up. Their menu online also states they have set Teppanyaki menus, however when I called to book, I was told it’s not available. I did mention that their website states it is, so just a warning if you’re planning on going here for Teppanyaki!

We were a group of eight and waited probably 20 minutes to even be given menus. It’s a pretty small space with lots of patrons packed in so it does get quite busy. Our orders were taken and some items were forgotten (such as a green tea). It was also very difficult to flag down assistance and water refills were near impossible to get. Finished dining tables remained uncleared for a long time and our plates were never taken away – something I find quite annoying with restaurants. On a positive note, when we ordered, our meals all came out fairly quickly of each other which I know can be difficult in large groups.

But on to the food. The food was good! I shared the gyoza dumplings and they were really delicious. Generously filled dumplings, tasty filling and really nice dipping sauce. I loved them. I then had the soba noodle tempura vegetable and prawn bowl. The tempura pieces came separate from the noodle soup which I appreciated because otherwise they go soggy. The prawns were tasty and the vegetables were also nice and crisp although perhaps lacking a little seasoning. The broth was really delicious and packed full of flavour.

The whole group seemed to enjoy their meals – the menu is quite extensive with lots to choose from. I would say the ambiance isn’t overly great and the service requires a lot of attention, but the food is really good.
Jennie
It was very dissappointing experience. Me and my partner’s food came out very slow, not only that, my order had came out 30 minutes after my partner’s order. When my order finally arrived, I found it to be extremely salty, which made it very unpleasant to eat.
Went to this restaurant because it's very high review mark, but feel disappointed based on the dishes I've ordered. The temputa prawn was very small and the eggplant was way too salty. Equal or below average than the many ones I had in Sydney. It's others dishes maybe be quite good and it's stuff are very friendly.

Amazing food. Authentic. Awesome value for money. Fresh quality produce. No pretentiousness of the so called up market Japanese restaurants. Service excellent. Will definitely be back.
Food For Thought
Wagyu Beef Shabu-Shabu is fantastic here for a quick, tasty and healthy meal. Good quality meat with tons of fresh vegetables and glass vermicelli with a simple flavoursome broth. Prices were so reasonable for the portion and service was fast.
Sailor Food
Had their all you can eat shabu shabu and sukiyaki. I love this place because it's not as westernised as other Japanese restaurants. Very authentic. Nice friendly service. It's a small restaurant so you might wanna book in advance.
Cat
The worst dining experience as the waiter can't explain the eating rule and make mistakes, serves wrong dish and very hot eating environment, no air conditioner and close all doors. Sweating all the time. Wonder why the rating can be so high.
All you can eat shabu shabu or sukiyaki!

After a slightly disappointing first visit in August 2017, we decided to try Bishamon again! We were so glad that we did. My husband and I chose the shabu shabu and took the all you can eat option for $34.50 per head. It was delicious - we tried both the wagyu beef (very tasty and tender) and the pork. The meal comes with a bowl of rice each and some dipping sauces and it's really good value if you're hungry. BYO for $2.70 per head was a plus and the staff were very friendly and nice! We'll be back to try the sukiyaki!

5 August 2017 - Rating 3
We went there with some friends and in hindsight we probably should have ordered a shabu shabu or sukiyaki hotpot because that was what all the Asian diners were eating. Instead we ordered some entrees which were quite good and our main meals from the specials board. Unfortunately the meals were not so special - my crispy pork and vegetable noodles was acceptable but the chicken and vegetables was not what we expected with a couple of pieces of strange processed chicken roll and unappetising starchy vegetables. It was also a bit expensive - especially as it was so unremarkable!
Katherineliu1004
The service is terrible. The waitress was too busy to say one more word. Please do take a second look at the bill because they might over charge for Shabu shabu. Even we didn't order "all you can eat" but they assumed we ate. It's ridiculous.
Faith Canales
Went for lunch at 1pm was reasonably full inside. Ordered at the counter and within 10 minutes our 3 meals came out. Great value for money and nice presentation.

Booking is recommended for this restaurant as it can be very busy. I visited on Thursday night as a solo diner and I was seated at the bar.

The menu is extensive but not difficult to understand. The service was efficient and attentive. Meals came out in reasonable time.

The Gyoza was excellent and generous in portion. For the main I had the beef teryaki. The portion was very large including plenty of beef sliced into strips, a serving of rice, and a generous serving of salad. I cannot say for certain that the beef was indeed an eye fillet due to the shape and orientation of the cut, but nonetheless it was cooked medium rare to perfection and extremely tender. Taste wise I felt it lacked some flavour especially when it was to be eaten with rice.

Happy overall with my experience, only hoping I can be seated at a proper table should I choose to visit again.

Hands down my favourite Japanese takeaway place in Brisbane. Food is always very fresh and the sashimi is 👌🏼. If you're coming here to dine in, the setting is casual and the service is good.
Rogerxam
It is too small space, food is not real Japanese. Too much oil, strong and soy sauce. People there can not under English well. I won't go there again.
Hannah K
This is definitely one of our favourite Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. We always order the all you can eat hotpot. Great friendly service. The food was decently portioned and very fresh.

Awesome! service and food. Try prawn kynusaya and udon noodle stir fry, and Sukiyaki hot pot. Gyoza in the pan are a cut above others. It's busy so book even early in the week.
Chris Roling
All ways great service and very accommodating. The food is excellent, quick to come out, and generous. Can never go past the prawn kinusaya when i'm here, and the yakiudon is enough for two people. Can highly recommend

With the recent intense competition in the food delivery market, it was no surprise when I received a very generous deal on my next order from Foodora in my inbox. With work piling up in my in-tray, my reluctance to go out to buy lunch, and the blazing hot sun outside, the choice to have lunch delivered was quite the no brainer.

After eating steaks for a month during a business trip to Newcastle, I thought it was time for a change. Japanese was the obvious choice. Upon entry to Bishamon, you are greeted by friendly staff and an air of authenticity. My partner and I began ordering our food in the usual fashion - far too much for two people (as the friendly waitress warned us). However, the staff are more than happy to pack your leftovers into a takeaway container. We had two mains and two entrees - which ended up being just under $40 a head. This isn't all that expensive considering lunch for the next day was sorted for both of us. If you're hungry, want great service and a side of Asahi, then give Bishamon a try.

Came here on a Saturday night, it was fully booked but the staff squeezed us in a table and we had to finish in 45 minutes. I like that they are flexible, and I will be back. However, if going on peak periods, try to book in advance as there will be a crowd!

We had the gyozas, sashimi don, and the beef katsu set.

The gyozas were amazing, probably one of the best I've had in Brisbane. Extremely light with the skin and generous with the fillings, just the way I like my gyozas.

The sashimi don was great, generous portions of sashimi on sushi rice, the fish tasted really fresh and I enjoyed the dish thoroughly.

The beef katsu was a bit of a surprise, we were expecting a big steak but what came was actually small bite sized tonkatsu bits. The beef katsu bits were cooked to perfection, we asked for medium doneness and it was indeed medium. It came with rice and their special tonkatsu sauce. It was delicious!

I will definitely be back, the hotpots looked amazing (I saw other diners having them), and smelled heavenly as well. I am also very interested in trying their teppanyaki sets.

Tl;dr book in advance, and hope you find parking near the street.

We order the shabu shabu hotpot buffet. I should say the waygu is high quality and the taste is ok, but unfortunately there are just too few options for a buffet: only wagyu, pork, vegi. Just got tired of after a few plates. The quiche is a free entree, but the taste is just so so. Actually I won't go for a second time.
Modaffections
Brought my family of 4 here because a friend recommended their Sukiyaki & Shabushabu buffet for $30.

Made a phone reservation prior and was told that seating is only 1.5 hours. Upon arrival, the manager couldn't find our booking and seated us in a small square table by the door and emphasised that we could only have either choice of buffet instead of both as the table was too small to have 2 gas stoves. Should've just walked out instead of carrying on!

We settled for just the Sukiyaki buffet instead. Seems that the price increased and is now $34.50pp!!! Food was alright not great, beef and pork slices were very thin and presented well however after the second round the broth was ridiculously salty and overwhelming I had to down 3 glasses of water.

For each time we ordered a refill of meat and vegetables and mushrooms, the vegetables came straightaway but we always had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a plate of meat. By the last 10 minutes of the seating, we asked for our last plate of beef but it never came. Instead 10 minutes later the manager came with the bill and told us that the next customers have arrived and we need to finish up and started clearing our table even when there were 2 other empty tables nearby not cleared.

Conclusion: one of those places where they don't value customers and just want to get over and done with with each table and move on to the next customer. Definitely didn't even eat half of the value worth and wasn't what we were expecting of a Japanese restaurant with supposedly good ratings. Not coming back again!

Food was great, I had the sashimi-don which had really fresh salmon and tuna sashimi (other seafood were alright), my friend had the salmon shoyu which was buttery and savoury. The salmon teriyaki is very similar and authentic to Actual japan style. Will surely come back if i have the chance for the all you can eat shabu/sukiyaki
Makan
Came looking for decent Japanese in Brisbane on a Monday night and found this place. I ordered the sashimi sushi rice. It came with huge pieces of salmon along with assorted seafood all very delicious. My only niggly is the price because at 30AUD it is on the pricer side.
Foodieinheels
Between a group of 4, we shared the all-you-can-eat sukiyaki and shabu shabu with Wagyu beef. The beef was definitely good quality for the buffet style course and price, however I found that sukiyaki became far too salty after a couple of rounds of cooking. The shabu soup was bland in comparison, but there were no utensils available to actually serve and drink the soup which I thought was odd. Service was pleasant enough and i would be interested in trying other dishes next time. Bishamon gets busy, even on weeknights, so try to book in advance.

I eat here regularly and it is always amazing food. Beautiful sashimi, delicious gyoza, awesome agedashi tofu and interesting specials. Best Japanese in Brisbane imho.

This place is awesome! I've only been for lunch and the specials are not only cheap- they are delicious and massive! I wish we'd only shared one- I had the katsu lunch meal. Well cooked chicken breast- major winner in that hospital precinct. Cannot wait to try dinner- they also have this outdoor garden to dine in which is joined with the cafe next door- supercool teamwork there

Rating such high ,not actually match the fame .Generally speaking ,not bad .

I reckon Brisbaner really fancy Japanese cuisine. This one rate the top around my area , lots ppl coming yet not fancy enough for me
Eat Out Breakfast, Lunch And Dinner Everyday
Been to Japan a number of times and even lived in Japan for 2 years, all I can say about this restaurant is that some of the flavours are really odd and even somewhat distasteful. As much as I love Japanese food there are better japanese restaurants around Brisbane so wont come back to this one.
AnitaOnChi
Great authentic Japanese right near the Cbd that also offers a gluten free dinner menu. Pricing wise is a bit above average, but you do have quality to match its $$$!
Alexi_b
Great food, perfect for a special occasion! Service was also great. Definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. I would gladly come back again.

Simply delicious! Perfect place to pick and share an assortment of tasty items. Friendly and helpful staff. About to walk out a very happy man

This is a local haunt and a restaurant i take to when visitors request for local japanese, it's priced well, portion sizes are big and it's hard to leave hungry. I've always order the yaku don - it's huge and I highly recommend that you share, other good menu items include the mixed sashimi. If you haven't tried japanese hot pot before (shabu shabu), then this place is an excellent starting point.
Vera
I enjoy this restaurant, I like the atmosphere and convenient location to my work. The sushi rolls are popular and usually gone within the first 30 minutes of opening. I find the meals are generous portion size for me and I usually cannot finish everything. The pricing is medium range and very affordable.

I came here for dinner as it is quite high rating for Bishamon Japanese. However, I feel a little bit disappointed by the food quality.
We ordered special prawn pancake from the board, a Beef soup udon and a tempura prawn cold udon.
The pancake is served in small roll, sauce is over-powered that I cant taste much of prawns, also prawns are not too fresh, and I can taste a bit carbon soda from the pancake, I think thats why they have to use very heavy sauce.
There is generous amount of beef in the soup udon but it is all over cooked and too tough. Udon is bit soft.
The cold udon is more chewy and tempura are all good, this is the only dish I feel satisfied with for tonight dinner.
We also ordered plum wine which is too expensive and it is diluted.
Renovation of the restaurant is nice that it may give people high rating.

Overall I think this place is overpriced and over-rated for their food
Susan Heilbronn
Second time we have dined here and it was fantastic. Waitress was extremely pleasant, service was quick and the food was absolutely delicious. Second time we went a little later and they were extremely busy. Highly recommend Bishamon.
Ronnielui2003
A lovely Japanese restaurant located in one of the warm houses of Spring Hill. Dined in this place for a few times. They are always busy. I love that they offer plenty of varieties on the menu, in addtion, they also present a black-board menu for the chef suggestion of the day. For a al carte, it is the place that I taste Nasu dengaku (eggplant) with Japanese cuisine at the first time. The most excited food offered is the idea of sukiyaki. You can choose the set with Entree and the beef all-you-can-eat or just sukiyaki with beef only. The quality of beef is superb.
Linnie Eats All The Food
Work trip again woooo! Upside, I get to try out new places. Downside, I have to eat alone. So once again I made my way around the area and found a cute little Japanese restaurant two minutes away from my hotel in Spring Hill. I was hungry, I was tired and there was room for me.

Stepped in and was welcomed by the hostess and was seated next to the window. I ordered the Kozaemon Kimoto Sake while I looked over the menu and it was refreshing, fruity and dry. I decided to get all entree seeing as my belly can’t handle a lot of food.

Kawaii. Bishamon is the sweetest little Japanese restaurant. Set in a very vulnerable Spring Hill location, this place is a shining light on a dark Boundary Street night. The agedashi tofu & miso eggplant are scrumptious !!
Kittypie2008
Cute little place!. Great food, but the portions could be a little more generous. We ordered the "large" sashimi platter and it was tiny! That said - the food is very high quality and the place has a nice cosy atmosphere and good service.
Luv Brissie
Good food at a reasonable price. Their lunch menu is particularly good value.

Unlike...its not real Japanese food. We were so excited to arrange our girls night in here because the rate was very high and all of us are Japanese food fans. But the food is absolutely disappointed.
We have made the booking 3days ago but we have put to a small table right in front of the door. We have asked to have a different table but the old Japanese lady was a bit unfriendly and not happy to change table for us. At the end, we have sit on a small table in a better area but under fan and air con, which was very cold. -_-|| As we have requested to change to a normal 4people table but got refused.
We have tried most of their special of the day, we ordered 6small dishes. They came quiet fast but we only have a small table, there was not room for them. But the staffs were not even tried to fit them,
Sreich90
Ah-mazing food amazing price!!. The food is amazing! Everything is so traditional, but blink and you will miss this restaurant. It may be small but the atmosphere and tastes are so fresh. We went in late and was served straight away. With two huge sushi rolls, gyoza, drinks, sashimi main and a beef teriyaki with salad, two rices AND two miso soup only costs $80. we were stuffed and so glad we chose this restaurant.
David_waa
Excellent food and customer service. My wife and I love this restaurant so much. Staff are friendly and food is always great. I understand why this place is always busy!!
Anistalif
Cheap, delicious, big portion. The food is very delicious with a very big portion. The price is affordable too. Have a huge variety of meals.
Antoniolee1845
Extremely Poor. Shame, i had such high expectations but I guess they are just using their established customer base and popularity to attract customers, whilst saving cost on food quality and service. Poor for Japanese Standard. I would recommend you Sushi Train, and saving you half.
Mpchuemeinss
It's a disgrace they even call themselves a JAPANESE RESTAURANT. So, I don't know why this restaurant has such high reviews. Firstly this is probably due to their customers being conned by the false "Japanese Food" they serve. The service is extremely poor, I have been to Japan and experienced their excellent customer service, even the guy in 7-eleven was nicer than the staff their. Then we proceed to ordering the food. The sashimi, overprice and poor quality, tuna was not fresh and salmon was black. The sushi, again the salmon was black, I for one thought I ordered tuna. However it is not the bad service or overpriced, small servings and bad quality that angered me, it was when we got to the tempura. I again would like to explain that TEMPURA is served with Tentsuyu. However with my Cold Soba, I only received the soba dipping sauce. I asked the waiter where the tempura sauce is, and she said we don't have that you dip it in the noodle sauce. Thinking that I was stupid and could con her way like they have done for years, I kindly asked for the "Hot Tsuyu Sauce", finally she went on her way to get the sauce. Coming back with the worst attitude and proclaiming loudly "THIS IS THE SAUCE YOU DIP WITH TERIYAKI", For goodness sake you made your point but guess what "IT WAS TERIYAKI SAUCE", with a hint of fish. I didn't bother after this, I just left. Luckily as a chef, I know what they gave me is indeed the marinade sauce for the salmon teriyaki. I can't believe the incompetence of this restaurant, and it's ability to con their customers. I see these groups of people enjoying their so called Japanese food, but i would not ever reccommend this restuarant. It is not Japanese, it is what i call "Fake". Even the fast food chain "Sushi Train" serves better food then them. I would be happy if the price they set reflects the quality of food and service but i guess, i'm asking for too much. Disgrace to Japan and Culture. After this experience I have talked to many Japanese friends and they do agree with me, this restaurant is poor.
Jbradwyn
Set lunch menu. Parking can be a bit different and you can't get the dinner menu at lunch but the set lunchtime menu offered a lot of variety. We had huge servings and the food was delicious. We couldn't believe the value for money. Absolutely delicious. We go here every time we come to Brisbane.
Yuki Ishihara
Terrible service. Slow and rude. Been there a few times hoping I would have a better experience and always treated poorly.

9/10. I used to work on Boundary street and when my office moved, was disappointing that I wasn't close to this place anymore. Great Japanese food and they do some great value lunch deals. I've eaten here at night as well which is also great, and I enjoyed their teppanyaki. If you're looking for the traditional teppanyaki where they throw it at you and make a mess, you won't find it here. My friends and I liked the fact you could watch the chef and then he would hand you the food as we didn't want to go out afterwards covered in food. The only thing I don't like about this place is that at night time it can be so cramped and crowded that it's a struggle if you want to get up and go to the bathroom as you can't move in the place.
Carmel G
Always excellent. Best value Japanese food in Brisbane.
BrisFoodie
Maybe an off night?. Not sure if the head chef was off as we did go on a Monday night, of the dishes we ordered there were little things that let them all down.
The octopus in the Takoyaki was very chewy, the miso glaze on the eggplant was too thick and very salty which overpowered the dish.
The gyoza were overcooked and burnt and the filling dry, the tempura prawn and vegetable soba soup came with 2 tiny battered beans and 3 tiny battered julienne carrots, though the broth was excellent.
May give it another visit in future on a weekend perhaps.
Matt Linger
One of the better Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. Definitely worth a try. It's wise to book ahead if you want a table.

Japanese Thursday. We went here for dinner on a Thursday night. It was very busy but we got there at 7 so our orders were taken early. Might be wise to book. The food was served very quickly. Sushimi was good but not amazing, mix tempura was great as was the fried silken tofu and wagyu. We were very happy overall and will go there again.

Best agadashi tofu EVER !

Old time Favourite. Have been eating here for years and have always left satisfied with both food and service.

Great prices, great food and great atmosphere. The "all you can eat" Sukiyaki is a fun night with BYO. Would recommend getting lots of little tasting plates to share to experience all that Bishamon has to offer.

10 out of 10.

Service poor food ok. Better to get takeaway from a shopping centre

Delicious! Only just discovered this place despite living nearby. Soba tempura and salmon chirashi are our favorites. The gyoza are very yum!

Tasty, tasty food. Fast and friendly. Just what you need with a 9 month old in tow!

Awesome Night.. Bishamon is such a busy Restaurant that is really nice it is a place that has such a vast selection on the Menu and is very fair in regard to value for money so it is certain that you will not be looking for your food, the serves are more than generous but when the dishes arrive they have the most gorgeous aroma drifting off of it so yes it is heavenly.

The service is very good and quite prompt, and whilst you are waiting you can be entertained via the Chef cooking Teppanaki he is very good to watch, so if you are wanting to catch up with friends and to do so in a Casual environment I highly recommend Bishamon Restaurant since it is delicous.
Kpet
Super fast, friendly service and delicious food. Plus gluten free options! Two thumbs up :-)

Bloody awesome, authentic Japanese. Everything we ordered was so delicious! Stir fried cuttlefish with miso paste & snow peas was so pillowy tender, nasu dengaku (miso eggplant) was yum, B-roll (salmon avocado cucumber) was made well because of the perfectly vinegared sushi rice and compaction around the super fresh salmon, gyoza was cooked traditional way on an iron plate and had FRESH pork with a super crispy skin, tuna and salmon chirashi don was superb! (Having the right balance of vinegar in the rice makes such a huge difference) and they were very generous with thinly sliced late pieces of sashimi on top. The only qualm I had was that their vegetable tempura was chopped up thinly and deep fried as one big mass (prefer the traditional way). Overall such a pleasant and authentic meal! Highly recommend!!! They have alot of variety on the menu too :)
Edna
Yum. Went here with a group of friends for my wife's birthday and it was awesome. The staff were really friendly. We ordered lots of different dishes and all were delicious. I would definitely go here again.
Juliess
Went here on Saturday night. Made a last minute booking. We found the service excellent. We ordered the $58 set menu. It was such good quality and each item came out straight after the other. Excellent fresh sashimi and the scallops were to die for. We were so full we had to share the green tea ice-cream. Will be going back to try some other items. The service was amazing not sure why people mentioned bad service in their reviews.
Elle
Lovely food. Taken by my Japanese friends there and was told it is the best. Service was not very good but food was.

I've been here a few times, for lunch, dinner and the all you can eat sukiyaki. Each time has been wonderful and the food is always tops. Will keep coming back for great Japanese!

Stopped her for an impromptu dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was half full but filled to capacity by the time our entrees had arrived. Food was fresh, delicious and cheap. We ordered the salmon sashimi (delicious), Wagyu Tataki (very very good), Pork Gyoza (not bad), Sushi Roll B (really good), Tuna Balls (too much rice) and Chicken Teriyaki (chicken was too fatty), Would recommend and will return to sample more items on their menu.

Fantastic find! will defiantly return. Dined here on Saturday night and was very impressed! The service was quick and attentive, the restaurant was not too noisy (though it was full) so you could still enjoy conversation with friends and most importantly the food was amazing!
We shared the gyoza and teriyaki chicken for entree which were both very tasty. For main we ordered the Yaki udon (huge serve, beautiful fresh seafood) and mixed tempura. The meals were all reasonably priced. Would recommend all dishes and will be returning to Bishamon again!

Only go for the food. It is amazing! The service on the other hand is rude and lazy. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:50 waited.... Waited 8:25 I managed to get the waitresses attention to finally order our food. Asked for water 8:40 still no water so I poured my byo into my water glass as no glasses where provided. A group of three business men arrived at this time and the service towards them was sickly attentative. 9pm our entree finally arrived after an hour of sitting. Told them to bring our mains out straight away as we had planned on going out after dinner. Mains arrived at 10pm!!!!!!!!!!! Not even an apology! Then 10
Minutes into our main the waitress came to tell us that the kitchen was closing so if we wanted dessert we would have to order now. I ordered te dessert special and again told her to bring it out ASAP. It never arrived. Left unhappy around 10:45. Manager gave us a 10% discount. But seriously guys nearly 3 hours to have an entree and main is ridiculous. Went to night owl and got Ben and Jerry's instead. Only reason I would go back is because the food was the 2nd best (after Sakura high gate hill) Japanese food I have had in Brisbane. And it's pretty cheap

Never ever close please. Forever my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. No matter how many times I go the menu never gets boring and the food only gets tastier.

Loved it, can't express it enough

Had the sashimi, tempura and shabu shabu set ($47 pp). The sashimi was fresh and cut well, the tempura was pretty much perfect.

Shabu shabu at the end is all you can eat, and eat I did.

Great interior, good service, excellent food.

10/10

Great cheap eat. We went to Bishamon for lunch and ordered the $10 teriyaki chicken lunch special - blown away by the amount of food: 2 sushi rolls, soup, salad, rice and chicken. Tasty and good quality - will definitely be back again, next time for dinner.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant. Very friendly staff and good service. Would recommend the shabu shabu! Great value for money and very fresh and quality ingredients used. Shame about the power outage that cut out dining experience short.

Great Japanese restaurant. Great value for the shabu shabu and sukiyaki.

Love this place. We went there for Saturday's dinner around 6:30. Seats were not full around that time, but it's safer to make a reservation. We brought a white wine, and ordered all-you-can-eat sukiyaki (next time we will try shabu shabu). The meats are amazingly juicy and tender, and all the veggies are so fresh and tasty. If you don't know how to make sukiyaki, a waitress will kindly explain. The quality of all-you-can-eat sukiyaki is more than the money you pay for ($33). Next, we will try other dishes. Also, you may notice there are many japanese people visit this restaurant. This place is truly authentic Japanese place. We had a really wonderful evening there.

This place is great! Quintessential Japanese food and service i.e. attentive, artistic and yum! BYO wine is way to go (bottle-o opposite) at $2.70pp. Gyoza (Japanese dumpling) is must eat entree and beef teriyaki was highlight main. Enjoy!

Recommend the Miso Eggplant!. Bishamon is the cute little Japanese restaurant on Boundary st, always a buzz with people that starkly contrasts the otherwise quiet street. I went to dine there on a Wednesday night and luckily procured a table without a booking. I suspect we wouldn't have been as lucky should we have gone on a Friday night. The ambiance of the restaurant was quite nice, with nice quirky touches here and there and a little shelf of cute Japanese children's games in the corner. The waitresses were also very polite and friendly, contributing to our experience. We ordered the sashimi platter, grilled miso eggplant and udon served in a stone bowl with seafood broth, tempura prawns and vegetables. The miso eggplant was my partner's favourite, with the sweet and salty miso on top of a super tender melt-in-your-mouth half of eggplant. The seafood broth for the udon was very flavoursome and fresh. My only criticism was that the sashimi platter was a tad dissapointing, with not very fresh tuna. The cute carved radish mouse was a nice touch though. Overall, a nice experience.

Great little place to dine. Food was a treat to eat. We had shabu shabu, would have loved more variety in selection of meats, seafood and vegetables .overall attentive staff. Thanks for a good dining experience

Sushi great, the rest just okay. We left this place wishing we had ordered more sushi instead of the other stuff. The eggplant with miso had way waaay too much miso paste on it, I had to srcap it off to avoid getting a mouthful of just the very sweet-salty paste. However, if you ate this directly with white rice it could be quite nice, but not as an entree in itself. The karage was also disappointing due to lack of flavour... I was tempted to ask for Japanese mayo with it, that would have improved it. Still the sushi was great, so I would go back here just for this. I would possibly try the teppanyaki too next time. As for atmosphere, I like being in a nice full restaurant because I know the food will be fresh, but the table placements here were just too close, making getting past other diners very difficult and awkward.

A fantastic find! Excellent japanese good and great service. If you ate after a great meal that offers excellent value for money then this place is a must.

It's byo but they do have a good selection of beer.

Highly recommend!

Consistently excellent. Have been going here for years. Good service, excellent food. Easy for a quick relaxed meal or order from one of the set menus and spend a few hours here drinking good Japanese beers and sake. The Sukiyaki set menus are good, the Shabu Shabu with Wagyu is a favourite as well. Best Miso soup going around as well.
Pretty basic on the inside, not amazing ambiance (although the teppanyaki chef is always worth watching) but really the food is the star here.

Service Crashed... (Maintain Zero Service Expectations). We dined here for dinner on Thursday 14th June. We had several dishes including entrees. All the food was good value - and the portion sizes generous.

The only (MAJOR) letdown was when they tried to push the wrong order onto my partner. It was really annoying; because she could even "quote back" the dish-number (from the menu) - to the guy serving us; whom was insisting the dish in his hand was the one we had ordered. WRONG!

Then a big kerfuffle; and a 20 minute delay - whilst the correct dish was cooked (from scratch)! Meanwhile I had little choice other than to eat my meal - (which I had finished by the time my partner's had arrived).

Then what really did it for us was that none of the staff nor managers offered any form of sincere apology - just what is often that annoyingly repeated; genuflecting Asian-waitstaff style of: "soory; soory; sorry...."

Please; give me a break! It appears like as if they thought of offering the victim any form of real apology - let alone a token of compensation (such as a complementary green tea etc) - a lightning bolt would strike them dead or something.....

Food good / but triple check what they are writing down for your order / and take note of the time your order went in...

Go Here. I have been going to Bishamon for a while now. Over the years small additions to the interior and the menu have improved the quality of this venue. The value is unbelievable (Sukiyaki, all you can eat, for about $30) and the entrees in particular make some of the more established Japanese venues in the Valley look like a rip off. I would recommend Bishamon as the best value Japanese food in Brisbane and a great place to make your regular cheap dinner out.

Best value Japanese food in Brisbane. Love it, Japanese staff, and always good service
Natalie Portmenteau
I'm not a big fan of Japanese cuisine typically yet I really rather liked Bishamon. Had the all-you-can-eat shabu shabu which is immensely filling. Sake tasting tray was a neat way to sample the drink. I have to say the service is excellent, particularly for such a small and busy place.

New favourite. Dont usually like japanese food but love this stuff. live just around the corner. will be a regular

Not very much offered from a vegetarian perspective. Would probably be different experience for people who eat meat. Service was friendly but a little slow.

One of authentic Japanese restaurants in Brisbane. There are many "Japanese" restaurants in Brisbane, but Bishamon is one of the authentic ones ran by real Japanese people. Foods are reasonably priced and you can expect the same level of services you can enjoy in Japan. Lunch menus are also great.

Bishamon has never let me down! It's the best Japanese in Brisbane

The food is nice especially the tempura and the Tasty sashimi . Definitely thumbs up.

Wow what a place, I never heard of this place until a friend told me about it! Went for a casual dinner and found the food great value and each dish had it owns taste and a big serving size, I will return and found it great for casual dining!

Beautiful!. My friend brought me to this place one weeknight, and it was already full! I imagine it must be packed on weekends!
The decor is interesting and understated, the staff were really lovely to deal with, and then the food came! All of our dishes were so flavoursome and pretty to look at. I loved it! I am looking forward to going back!

Yum. A good place for quick, cheap eats. Authentic and delicious. But you've got to get there early! They get run off their feet after about 7.30pm.

I ordered the chicken karaage, described on the menu as "deep fried chicken pieces". It was all (and I mean ALL) chicken fat/skin - no meat. Gross. It was the worst Japanese I've ever eaten (or I should say ordered because I couldn't eat it) - and I've eaten in some of the most dodgy food halls around. Just for reference I've been to Japan a couple of times and they tend to describe things like "chicken cartilage" when it's not the meat.
Won't be eating there again and wouldn't recommend it. In fact I would recommend people don't eat there.

Great resturant! Abit squashy buy atmosphere was nice despite all you being able to hear everybodys conversation. Would be nice for more space And less tables. Entre' size meals are satisfying and main meals are more than enough. We had a japanese waitress that was in the ball. Highly recommended.

Both Japanese and Westerners are diners at this restaurant looking forward to traditional dishes like sushi and noodles. A draw card for their restaurant is tepanyaki and shabu shabu, a steam boat style dish where meat and vegetables are cooked in water at a pot at the table which is then dipped in a sauce before being eaten. Another draw card is sukiyaki where meat and vegetables are cooked in a boiling broth sitting on the table. Traditionally the meat is dipped into raw egg. While this isn’t on the menu, you can ask for one and they will happily give you one. The dishes are generous and fresh. The amuse bouche of teriyaki salmon was wholesome and was an excellent start to the meal. The beef tataki maintained its integrity through the rareness of the slivers of steak and it was seasoned well. The chicken karaage made from chicken breast was on the dry side, lack

The menu at Bishamon is quite comprehensive and has almost too many options to seriously consider, in fact you could easily get 'analysis paralysis' looking over the menu. Thankfully they've simplified the task of choosing somewhat by starting the menu with the chef's recommendations, which had some awesome looking options. We ended up choosing a cross selection from the whole menu to try to get as much Japanese goodness as possible in one meal.

The vegetables that came with the Shabu Shabu .. there were 3 of us, and there were 3 massive chunk of tofu which kinda made us laugh .. for no reason ...and 3 shiitake mushrooms as well ... there were carrots, shallot, bean sprouts, glass noodles, tofu and mushrooms.. oh and lettuce as well~~

Underneath the huge pile of stir fried udon, lies a bed of fried eggs. The noodles were cooked really well with the prawns, cuttle fish and strips like bacon/pork.
Dolce Bunnie
It doesn't have the lavish décor of Sake, but the restaurant’s humble existence somehow make it unique and appealing. We took a while to decide on what to have for dinner as every item on the menu sounded delicious.

We've been heading to Bishamon for a long time now, and it seems that more and more people are discovering this wonderful Japanese restaurant. We'd like to keep it all to ourselves so there's more for us, but becau

regardless of any failures Bishamon is a fantastic restaurant definitely worthy of revisiting in the near future.

Walking in without a reservation on an early night, we were lucky to get a table because patrons flowed in at a rather rapid pace mid way through our dinner. Their specials are written on a board and bought out for the guests when they arrive. Without any direction as to what to order, we picked a few staple dishes to see how good the place was. The Deep Fried dish

Friday night's gathering took place at Spring Hill's Bishamon Japanese . Bishamon is famous for its $30 All-You-Can-Eat Sukiyaki and ShabuShabu (Japanese hot pot served on the table), I reckon they are the BEST DEAL in Brisbane - Bottomless Wagyu Beef! Ap
