It’s such a pleasant experience these days to be surprised by a restaurant. Our 1st time at Detour will not be our last. The staff were very friendly and the service was on point. Having my favourite scotch is also a bonus. The menu is exiting and designed to share which is the way my partner and I love to eat. I love my meat and whilst the pork belly and the peppered lamb were lovely the stars of detour is their Herbivore menu especially the beetroot tartare simply the best vegetarian dish I have ever tasted. This restaurant is a credit to the owner and staff and just shows how much Brisbane is growing up. Can’t wait to go back and try some of the other dishes on this exceptional menu.

Just returned home from a birthday dinner for my mother and i have to say the food was amazing. It isn't often a table of eight will rave about pumpkin but we did tonight, I could eat a bowl of that every day. There wasn't a plate that came out that we didn't polish off, with the exception of the last 2, as we were completely stuffed by this time, but there is always room for desert and so, we had to try all of those too. Amazing night, sublime food and great service, no complaints at all.

Delicious food and great venue! The menu was a little bit intimidating at first, but I really enjoyed each of the courses we got! Can’t wait to return!

Musings on @detourrestaurant
This place has been on my hitlist for a little while now, with a menu full of unique dishes (both herbivore and omnivore) designed to be shared, this place is exceptional.
On this occasion, we had the Emu Tartare with Burnt Shallot, Chilli and Yolk. A robust dish, with the Shallot balancing nicely with the Emu and richness of the yolks.
Next up was the Coal Roasted Broccoli with Miso, Spinach, Seaweed, Quinoa. While this was my least favourite dish, it was still terrific. The Quinoa is crunchy, and the overall texture of the dish was fantastic.
The final two savoury dishes were, without doubt, the best two of the evening..
The vegetarian Hawaiian Curry was both visually attractive as well as a taste sensation, I can honestly say that I have never eaten a dish with these flavour profiles before. The richness and spice (mild chilli) of the coconut curry is complimented by the inclusion of lychees and the taste of sweet potato. This is truly a masterpiece. Yes, I heard music when eating this dish.
Just when we thought it couldn't get much better - Wagyu Brisket with Green Tomatoes and Pepper Aioli. I won't be able to describe how good this was.. Salty, fatty, peppery and overall delicious. "More louder" music and that whole-body sensation that only the best dishes bring out in me.
This left barely enough room for Dessert and the Nitro Meringue with Basil, and cashews was a good way close to a great food experience.
The venue and service were excellent, despite the lateness of the hour (we started eating at 9.45 pm) the staff were attentive, friendly, and this resulted in a tremendous vibe throughout the restaurant.

The decor is beautiful and the service was good. The menu is simple but everything sounded delicious. We tried the scallops, pumpkin, carrots and fries. Scallops were beautiful with pork belly. The vegetarian dishes were inventive and tasty however they lacked protein which you definitely need for a main course. Fries were crunchy and yum. Dessert was pannacotta which was top notch. The meringue with yuzu I didn’t enjoy as much, the yuzu is very sour and overpowering and override the delicate flavour of the meringue.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Nice modern atmosphere. Large open space with high ceilings giving you plenty of room between tables. Nice easy menu to choose from. I like to try a bit of everything when and so the share plate concept was definitely a winner. All the meals were delicious except for the KFD which was slightly disappointing compared to the rest. The duck did not have enough flavour but the bread it came with was delicious. We also had the malabar crush and brash freeman cocktails which were both tasty.

Superb, tasty, creative, BEAUTIFULLY-PRESENTED food served in a tasteful, modern environment of refurbished old factory or warehouse.  Many Vegan options available that taste -well - to die for!! My husband and I discovered Detour by accident and now go there for our weekend 'dates' without the children.  The service is terrific - friendly, without being unduly familiar or intrusive.  One of our fav special places to eat in Brisbane!!

A surprising result - I enjoyed lunch here recently and was pleasantly surprised by the food, the atmosphere and the mood - I don’t often use the term “mood”, but Detour has a mood and it is relaxed and comfortable. The fitout and design is imaginative and gratifying. The food is diverse, full of flavour and fun. Great idea on the pork belly and ‘Peking duck’ style pancakes - aside from that, the pork belly was an absolute delight - always a good measure of how good a restaurant is. Service was calm and attentive. Seating was spacious and comfortable. Wine list was a little lean, but a good selection of what was needed for lunch.

I had dinner with 3 guests. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the well run busy establishment with tequila in hand. The Barman really knew his stuff for such a young guy. The wait staff were superb mix of experience and passion for the whole dining concept. The menu was varied and can’t wait to get back there to try more dishes the kfd and the pumpkin courses were delicious

Have been to Detour a couple of times and I’m always pleasantly surprised by the experience. The service is fantastic and decor super trendy. Love the open kitchen where you can see the masters at work. It really adds to the experience being able to see the chefs at work. I’ve tried the majority of the dishes here and can say they’re all amazing. My faves so far have been the lamb, gunpowder wagyu and panacotta dessert. All dishes executed to perfection. All flavours balanced and complemented each other. Lamb and wagyu cooked to a perfect medium. The bee panacotta was an experience as I’ve never had dehydrated bees before. They added a nice crunch to the creamy honey dish. This place is a regular on my rotation!

Bookmarked this restaurant under the recommendation by Meatballs And Beef Cheeks when we had the dinner across the road @ 1889 Enoteca last month. Purposefully arranged the Valentine dinner for the exploration. We chose to have the Omnivore food journey for the night. Service was friendly and hospital. Loved the ambience and the high ceiling lay-out. Open kitchen design reduce the distance between the chefs and diners. It is always a joy to see how the chefs preparing the dinner for us. First dish on the table was the Sydney Rock Oysters with Apple Caviar. The light touch of apple taste from the caviar matched well with the fresh oysters (4/5). Second came the Scallop and Pastrami accompanied with side dish of Smoked Mozzzarella. Quality of scallops selected was superb and the golden brown color really tempted my appetite. Effect of mixing smoked mozzarella with the cherry tomatoes, small slice of pastrami and scallop brought the whole dish to next level (4.5/5). The main of the night was the peppered lamb, which was perfectly done in med-rare. The beauty was the salt pre-rubbed into the lamb piece that made the saltiness matched well with the mint and asparagus. Side dish of smoked pumpkin was another careful selection to match the lamb, well done (5/5). The pre-dessert dish of cheese was another hero, particularly the slight blue cheese effect on the surface delivered the specific taste of blue cheese but not that strong (5/5). Using a little bit of honey and accompanied that with berries brought the sweetness and refreshing feeling to the plate, thumb-up (4.5/5). Dessert dish of nitro meringue came with a little bit of delay and lacked of surprising. It was a shame of this beautiful food journey (3.5/5). Overall, dining experience was decent.

Great experience and unique menu. The banquet option is the way to go and received amazingly presented dishes which can sound unusual from reading the menu but taste surprisingly good. The lamb and brisket were the standout. Service was also good, helpful in explaining what all the options are.

Delicious food, excellent presentation and friendly staff. Really love the KFD and broccoli with miso, seaweed and quinoa. The wagyu was good too, however was served a little cold and dry. Definitely need to book as they are always fully booked. Will be back to try other dishes.

The food here is exceptional and to be honest I forgot to photograph the second half of the meal as I was too excited and just wanted to eat it. They are amazing at gluten free too. Can’t wait to go back, drooling already at the thought.

We were a bit confused how to order from the menus, then friendly staff came to take order and patiently explained the cuisine. Excellent presentation of food, and very unique combinations.

Not my first time here, as it’s always a fairly reliable spot. It is however, for me, one star shy from out-of-this-world as there is always one dish that is a bit of a let down. I won’t mention previous occasions as they are no longer on the menu but this time it’s their smoked pumpkin. The smokiness penetrates far too deep into this poor humble vegetable that at the end all I could taste is a smoked liquidy mash. I find it difficult to explain … but perhaps you will know if you try it.. but don’t. I do believe that it’s best not to bet on the Kent pumpkins (where its liquidity and sweetness can vary greatly even when they appear the exact same on the outside). Perhaps in another variety (such as the smaller kabocha squash) it would be more suitable. I must mention however, that the smoked salmon and ants (oh don’t be a chicken!), beetroot tartare, emu tartare, wagyu brisket are all superb and I would be very keen to have them again.

Take a detour here! The food here is absolutely divine and offer a unique experience. Absolutely recommend the Coal Roasted Broccoli. The broccoli is soft and captures the smokiness from the coal and the crunchiness from the fried(?) quinoa provide a textural experience. Each dish was a flavour experience. And I found it quite enjoyable to experiment with each meal, whether it was assembling the Pork Belly Pancakes or mixing and matching the Gunpowdered Wagyu Brisket with the sides provided. Would definitely come back here again.
