Review Let Minnow Cafe - Brisbane

Sonia
Nice meal with friendly staff. Pasta was fresh and could tell they use fresh pasta instead dry ones. For burger, however, chicken wasn't crispy but could tell it was pre-made and warmed/heated up once ordered. Overall taste was good and liked the vibe and atmosphere surrounding also good too.

Absolutely amazed by the flavour and quality of food by this hidden gem in Clayfield. Firstly the food looks beautifully presented and is packed with flavour. 10/10 to all these dishes. All staff we met were extremely friendly however the stand out was a waitress named Regina who was ever so welcoming from beginning to the end of the experience there. Parking is not the easiest here however as the cafe is always so busy that most of the time the street parking infront is taken. Highly recommend coming here!

Coffee was presented well with good robust flavour. We ordered corn fritters & chilli eggs. Not enough chilli in the eggs for my friends taste, but a good dish. Fritters were delicious, crispy outside & soft inside with lots of corn. Accompanying Salsa was nice, avocado was a bit mushy could have been chunkier for my taste but on the whole a good dish

Beautiful food, lovely coffee, and such a nice atmosphere here. Even at their busiest, it’s worth the wait. Staff are so friendly, it feels like you’re in your own home kitchen. The best avo on toast I’ve ever had, and I like to think I’ve had more avo on toast than I’ve had hot dinners in my life! 🤗 Street parking is ample, too.

Large cafe with a pleasant interior and would be good for groups/families. The service was friendly, but the food and drinks were pretty slow to come out. One of our drinks was even forgotten, although when staff were informed of this, they did fix the issue quite quickly. My food (mushrooms) was tasty but unfortunately very cold and I didn't enjoy the creamy paste in the bread, so have rated my experience accordingly.

🌱 food - 3/5 🌱 coffee - 3/5 🌱 service - 3/5 Overall, this cafe was okay… The waitress we had was really kind and good at her job. However, the older lady was quite rude. Food was okay, tasted quite bland and the burger was quite expensive for what we got.
Denise
This coffee was not enjoyable. And the waitress was rather blunt. Not rude. But not welcoming either. Also all the outdoor seating is on a sloped pavement. A couples glass water bottle slipped off the table and smash everywhere. Felt bad for them. I can’t comment on the food, however. Also this cafe is table service so you have to line up for a table and then re-line up to pay.

Loved the Persian eggs (20 AUD), the caramelised onion yogurt was such an amazing pairing - added halloumi (6.5$) and sautéed spinach (5$) for some more sustenance - 9/10 The avo toast was lovely and well seasoned - we added poached eggs (18$ + 4$) - 8/10 Breakfast Burger (18$) there was smashed avo in the burger and that was an amazing addition - burger was a little small but maybe we were just super hungry 😅 - 8/10 Swimmer Crab Linguine (26$) - tasty, we added some salt and pepper for some more flavour 7/10 Eggs Benedict (24$) - 7/10 Prana Chai Latte was a huge highlight (7$), frothy, warm, sweet, and gently spiced - 10/10 Strawberry Split Smoothie (9.5$) - 7/10 Latte - 10/10

We ordered in line coffee, hot chocolate & tea along with three meals. Inside was overcrowded very noisy. My coffee arrived in a chipped cup, tea pot had a crack in it. (I dislike chipped crockery) Coffee was over hot it left a foul taste in my mouth like the milk was off. Meals however where worth the 35minute wait. Very Delicious, staff very friendly, quick to clear tables and reseat others.

Unfortunately this was the worst breakfast in a long time. While the staff were friendly, the food took ages to arrive and tasted terrible when it finally arrived. I had the minnow eggs which were covered in a thick sprinkling of salt, so much so I couldn't eat them. I also found their coffee to be bitter and when I sampled my daughter's choice of flippin fantastic pancakes they were an unusual combination of popcorn flavoured topping, also salty, with the sweet ice cream and sweet potato pancakes. Not impressed and won't be back.
Diane Sullivan
Love their creative drinks. We did the Easter menu on Sunday which was so yummy. I had the chocolate egg melting in my mocha and the hot cross bun French toast. Others had the waffles but the honeycomb tasted burnt in the ice cream. Otherwise another great breakfast.

I love going to Let Minnow Cafe. The food and service is wonderful. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for good food, especially their gluten free products.
William Burke
Such an amazing place, rarely give 5/5 but this place is something else. Great staff. Great food and spectacular atmosphere. Very welcoming to my dog, it was so lovely.
Craig Warner
Busy but quick seated. Good coffee and food, only issue is the wait staff never asked whether I would like ‘any thing else’ ie another coffee?
Lou Broad-Foot
What a great *plaice to eat. Excellent food and coffee. The owners & staff have clearly put their heart & *sole into the business, they must be *bream-ing with pride! I recommend you *wrasse there now if you haven't been yet... That's it, I'm *flounder-ing for any more... What a great review, I hope you're suitably *flathead ... #fishpuns #letminnowcafe

I truly enjoy myself today and a great thx to your staff for everything. I had the ice tea and the White Shark. Everything was good but since I've cut back on bacon, and I love the smell and it was good, I would've like less bacon and maybe a grilled tomato. It's just a thought. I'd give you 5+++

Wonderful coffee and beautiful food, kids meals went down a treat and bacon and eggs were perfect, great customer service.
Sian Austin
Such a fantastic spot! Gorgeous setting with a great menu. Prices are so reasonable and service was on point. A great addition to the north side will definitely be spreading the word.
Katherine Kirkwood
Thanks for a great morning. Visited for the first time this morning and will definitely be back. Staff were attentive, friendly and efficient and the food was delicious! Also love seeing all the doggos with their families.

Absolutely gorgeous food and the best coffee I have ever tasted!!! The service was excellent and location lovely - thank you for such a pleasant dining experience ... we will definitely be back!

Lovely place to catch up with friends lovely food friendly atmosphere would highly recommend.
Simone Berry-Schmierer
Great variety of (freshly prepared) food and beverages. Extremely reasonably priced for what it is. Great to see Almond milk offered as an option for cold & hot drinks. The staff are absolutely wonderful - very friendly. Would and do recommend this cafe to everybody I talk to.

The food was amazing, and the service was quick despite quite a few customers. The portion sizes are quite big and leave you full and satisfied.

Came here with entertainment book offer.
Came in on a Thursday after peak time lunch hour which is aroud 1pmish.
Lovely interior and a little kid corner (with a lot of flies though, which def put me off)

Ordered a mushroom dish (can't rmb the name) but it was a small serving.
And the chicken burger (which you can never go wrong) and didn't disappoint us as well with the sweet potato chips.

*One really plus thing about this cafe would be the bathroom got a changing table for the little one. clean and nice, really appreciated of the thought.

Great friendly staff, and consistently good food and cocktails. Very good chai lattes, and a chilled atmosphere. Nice crunchy chips, and good vego/healthy options too.

Let Minnow ... Let Me Know how long my food is gonna be!!

This place has the longest wait for food ... been here a few times hoping to give it benefit of the doubt that I won’t have to wait forever, and always end up frustrated and cursing I won’t be back ... you will wait around an hour for what is to be honest average food.

Cute cafe and good location however.
JourneywithMim
I visited Let Minnow a while ago and boy it was amazing. Chocolate waffles with bacon and ice cream. Would be one of the best breakfast's i have ever had. I am not sure whether this is still on the menu or if it was a special but i hope they still have it so everyone can try.

Highly recommend this brekky spot!

I have visited Let Minnow on two occasions recently and have great things to say about the café.

On my first visit I ordered the Gnocchi Gnocchi Who’s There and absolutely loved it! The flavours were perfect, the gnocchi was so tender and the portion size was just right. *4.5/5*

I decided I had to try something different on my second visit so I ordered the Holy Macaroni which was lovely but not my personal favourite. *3.5/5*

Both times I also ordered the Mystic Mermaid fresh cold press juice. I absolutely loved it and would say it’s one of the best juices I’ve had. *5/5*

I was on the look out for some local honey during my second visit, and to my delight they had some on the counter! I was then told that the honey was actually from their backyard which is super cool. It has a great floral flavour and was very reasonably priced. The only thing that could improve it would be the use of non-plastic packaging.

The wait staff were lovely on both occasions and were very accommodating of my nut allergy.
Kieran Dolan
Absolutely adored my pumpkin and quinoa fritter! The herbed cashew nut 'cream cheese' was especially tasty. Staff were attentive and accommodating, never pestering the table but always there when you needed them. I will definitely be back with friends in tow.

Went here for weekend brunch with the partner. Very popular time as people were continually coming and going for takeaway or sit-down breakfast/lunch.

An updated list of the Winter all-day breakfast and lunch is available on the Let Minnow website.

We started off with a cold brew coffee - which was standard, and a small cappuccino - which was well-balanced.

For food, we ordered the 'Up Beat Breakfast with Mixed Mushroom' - generous servings of various types of mushroom, lovely beetroot hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs; and the 'Tidal Wave Waffles with Crispy Chicken' - similar sweet potato waffles, well-fried chicken and a lovely pickled and spicy side salad.
We also ordered a small side of 'Poutine Fries' - moreish dish of hot fries with melted cheese and gravy.

We also ordered a slice of the Jaffa Brownie as takeaway for an afternoon tea treat. It was soft, moist and was delightly baked with plenty of jaffas.

Friendly service. The cafe was very popular, therefore it took some time before our meals arrived. Casual ambience. Seating available outdoors and indoors. Reasonable prices.

Overall, a lovely (and popular) spot offering delicious classic breakfast and lunch options with a different twist.

I chose Let Minnow, a cafe snuggled between Nundah and Eagle Junction on the North side, for our July book club. I was inspired by the unique dishes and the aquarium theme of the cafe. Location, ambience & service. My most positive comment on this point is that the decor and setting of the cafe is very cute and homely.

Great cafe with wonderful, friendly staff. I loved the decor and ambience of the place. We had the haloumi toastie and granola, along with a latte and mocha. The coffee was rather well balanced. The food servings were generous and value for money.

Wonderful coffee and beautiful food, kids meals went down a treat and bacon and eggs were perfect, great customer service. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely love this place! Such a wonderful cafe with a lot of variety on their menu and always a long specials menu included. Usually when I go to brunch spots I opt for the safe bacon and eggs on toast but their menu has so menu delicious things that really catch my eye. From their specials menu I tried the pea and ham soup, which you don’t come by much in Brisbane and it was delicious! A variety of freshly squeezed juices as well which I love. I definitely would recommend this place to friends and will be back again.
Erin McCarthy
Nice looking cafe unfortunately the coffee was very weak even with a double shot. The potato rosti were grey and unpleasant to eat, overall underwhelming.

Dropped in this café last Sunday morning. It was early 7:00am and there were already tables occupied at the al fresco area. Stepped in and my gaze was caught by the cake display cabinet and the nice cosy set-up of the indoor dining area. Barista was very friendly. Due to the fact that it was too early to have the soup (that was what I aimed for) then I changed to have a piece of banana bread and a flat white and took a seat at the indoor area. It did not take a long time to have my coffee ready, which came with a nice yellow colour cup and beautiful latte art. Prior to the first sip, I judged that it should be a good one by the appearance and the aroma from the coffee. Well, it was really nice, smooth with deep layer of flavour and strength. Next came the plate of well prepared banana bread which was top with a small piece of butter and accompanied with a little jug of honey. I am very appreciated on how the kitchen's preparation. The slightly toasted at the top part of the banana bread won my initial appreciation. The texture of the bread was soft with strong aroma of banana, particularly if you mixed it with a piece of butter and honey, that would be superb! I just love this café and wish you give it a go too!
Taking Brisbane One Coffee House At A Time
Just around the corner, so great bonus for me. Super friendly staff and great food. Coffee is average, but I'm incredibly picky. Great atmosphere, and can't go past a fun cafe that appreciates a pun. Trendy, but family friendly, so great place to take the kiddies.

So good!!! Jam packed but luckily they take bookings for 5+ people on a Sunday! All meals coming out looked delicious and ours definitely were! Coffee was also on point and went back for seconds!! Must try in Clayfield!
Glutenfree.Brisbane
we love this place. always has an interesting menu and the meals are really good value for money. My partner loves the milkshake specials too! They are also one of the few places that has an extensive kids menu rather than just one or two options. Its always busy but we've never had to wait and the service is good. I do consistently find that their food is a little under seasoned for my taste, but it's not a deal breaker
Jacinta
Good coffee but it took over 30 minutes to order and receive my takeaway coffee after lining up with all the dining in cuetomers. Maybe a takeaway line or using a preorder app would help...
Natasha Argue
Great menu selection, been a few times and always leave satisfied. Good Coffee. Great presentation. Always have lovely fresh baked treats and a new milkshake flavour each week. Friendly service. Reasonably prices.

A little hidden jewel in our area. Very nice food and incredible taste. Good coffee to the level of best coffee shops in Brisbane. The service is lacking a little bit :-(
Food Bandit
Cute little kitschy cafe tucked away in clayfield down the road from eagle junction station. I think it used to be an aquarium growing up! Food was good, coffee also good. Hubby loved his breakfast burger, my mushroom rosti was yummo and bacon cooked perfectly. Good service too!

I really liked the coffee at let minnow; perfect temperature and you can really enjoy the coffee flavour without being too strong. Food was pretty good, and it is a good value for the portion size you get. My sweet potato fritters were nice with jalapeño salsa and other elements. I found haloumi they use a bit heavy for me, but that's more down to personal taste. My boyfriend got the sausages and he was happy with them.

Love this place. Fantastic breakfast. Coffee is okay, better elsewhere though. Gets very busy but it's a fantastic atmosphere. Good variety of breakfast too which is always nice. Good range of juices and other drinks also. Would recommend and will definitely go again.

Really great place. Was very busy this morning but still got a table easily and our food came super quick (even beat the coffee but that's ok!). Friendly staff and massive menu. I'll be back!

Went here for breakfast last month with a friend and really enjoyed the coffee and our breakfast. We didn't wait long for breakfast and I had The Shore Thing which was delicious, perfectly cooked poached eggs on top of mushrooms and halloumi. Delicious! My friend had the eggs and bacon which she enjoyed and we finished with another cup of coffee and a muffin to share. Look forward to coming back and trying lunch!

Saturday morning breaky ! Boy oh boy was it busy this morning. Managed to get a table inside, ordered at the counter which is great and makes it easier to pay in a big group.
Ordered The Shore Thing haloumi, Avo, poached eggs, bacon on sourdough. It was yummy except the bread was so hard to cut, like it hadn't been toasted well enough or something. Boyfriend had the dipper baguette with beef and it was delicious, I definitely was a bit jealous ! Service was great and even though one of the meals was later than everyone else's, they made up for it by kindly giving a free coffee for next time. Overall great food and service, defs wanna come back and try lunch out !
Alithia Egea
Very busy place so you'd assume it was great food. Location is great. Fit out is cute.. Menu is exciting. But deliver a letdown. Twice now parts of meals have been forgotten and have had to ask for money back as they never arrived. It's order and pay at counter.

Lovely staff, refreshing atmosphere. This is a local favourite of mine.

I've eaten my way through the menu and never had a bad experience. The staff are really nice I've never seen a disgruntled customer. They are always happy to do up a takeaway coffee if I'm in a rush.

I love that they are dog friendly! There are water bowls outside for your furry friend and also hooks to park your pup next to your table outside.

I have my weekly work meeting here along with my morning coffee and weekend bacon and egg roll.
Always clean and tidy. New fun specials on their menu every week.
Plus, the place is full of puns which makes it even better. Even on their Facebook page I see a few cheeky puns during the week. Great to have a place that isn't pretentious and just focuses on great food and good service.

Went for breaky, the food and coffee were ok, I'm not sure if it was cooler than normal because the venue is cold, but still acceptable. We aren't from the area and was good to experience different venues and menus.

Used to come to this place many moons ago (when it was an Aquarium) to stock up on tropical fish! Now times they are a changing & you can actually have fish for breakfast as it is on the all day menu. This new kid on the block serves simple food done well with fresh ingredients, always a winner with me. The food has a rustic quality about it too with chunky cut vegetables through the savory mince & that beautiful house bean dish I had for brekky. The coffee is locally sourced from Byron Bay & is a dream brew. Smooth, rich with that mouth feel lingering long after. Service is friendly & fast & they were buzzing this morning it was Mothers Day. Would recommend sitting outside it is doggy heaven & a lot quieter
Samie
Great food, great coffee, great service, plus kiddy area and it's my local! Winning! The avo smash is always a winner.. As are the small home made goodies at the counter.

Best breakfast I have ever had with a toddler... Up there with the best Waffle ever... Coffee was also perfectly acceptable.

Really though, you won't find a better cafe to come to with your kids...

Second visit to this establishment. The first it was morning and it was closed when it was supposed to be open having read the sign with hours of business posted. So a friend booked the second time for Sunday breakfast, minimum booking is for 5 very inconvenient and probably not a good introduction to new patrons in this dime a dozen cut throat restaurant industry. Greeted at the counter by an officious female staff member who needs to brush up on her people skills , long story short couldn't find our booking eventually found after our urging it was booked and the 5 people minimum rudely restated . Finally get to our table that was reserved with my friends name and time of booking , apologies were offered later but that did not make up for the hour wait for our food and at best basic bacon and eggs, pricey and very average ! Coffee was good not great. No table service was a let down as space in restaurant was tight and hard to manoeuvre from corner table.

So we had breakfast here for 3 this morning. Two of us had the Mince on Toast, and one the very healthy looking "Healthy Catch". Great sized meals, almost too big in fact. The mince was great, just like dad used to make, with a nice fried egg all sitting on Turkish Toast. The healthy catch was very healthy with light rye toast, avo, poached eggs, beetroot hummus and baby spinach. The service was very friendly and efficient. The coffee was really good and one of us had the juice special of the day which disappeared very quickly. All in all one of the nicest places to come and do breakfast brunch or lunch mid week. They are very busy on the weekends so must be doing something right! Will be my new regular coffee spot from now on.

I've eaten a lot of different things at the Let Minnow Cafe. They do a fintastic breakfast, I particularily like the Mushroom and Motzerella Toastie and the Shore Thing. Eggs are poached to perfection, coffee is glorious and the staff are great. Would reccomend.
Bangbang
I would love to give this little spot big scores because it has sooo much potential but after my most recent visit I can't. Let Minnow is a cute little cafe with some really lovely staff & I've been a couple of times so I know the atmosphere and staff are consistently great but the two meals I've had just haven't been great. Still a few kinks to iron out being a new cafe I understand but I hope they find their groove and put out some good food & do it well.

Once an aquarium (the buying fishy pets kind), the building has been converted to a cafe in a residential pocket of Clayfield. It has definitely caught on as a spot for the locals, and was well abuzz when we went in on a weekend morning. It has been quite nicely done up in shades of yellow, white, and grey. There were a few fish puns on the wall and in the menu, and overall it has a modern, relaxed feel.
Sherrym1au
i love the fact that the former aquarium building is now a cute café. hubby and I had a quick lunch there late last week. the place was full of women in groups so clearly it is a popular spot for lunch. i had a nicely cold chocolate thickshake which filled me up so much i could barely eat my summer salmon salad. The salad had lots of leaves, radish, cucumber and tomatoes and several pieces of smoked salmon rolled into little blankets. it was fresh and healthy. Hubby had a burger with chips which he enjoyed. the chips were very tasty. they had some skin on which we both love, and looked hand cut. love the cute table signs with street names rather than numbers. all in all, a fun place with friendly staff, cute puns and fresh food. they are concerned with food miles and try to use local suppliers.

First time to Let Minnow and wasn't disappointed. So many positives which all started with the atmosphere they've created here. The coffee was made well and the breakfast was fresh and delicious. Will be back

Such an amazing place, rarely give 5/5 but this place is something else. Great staff. Great food and spectacular atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Nice and cheap food that tastes great with a fantastic vibe. The staff are very friendly and you can even bring your pets along! Will be back (the food behind the glass is a must try next time)

Nice healthy options!! Fresh, cooked well and yummy. Great post work out options ☺️ I would definitely come back again. Great also if you are dairy or gluten free!!

Burgers are great, taste fresh and don't leave you feeling sick after stuffing your face.

Breakfast is good. I ordered the pocked eggs and asked for them runny and they came out hard, staff were super friendly and happily made some more and reserved my entire plate. The avocado side I added had too much lemon or lime added for my taste. Would have preferred plain avo for a side instead of a premixed mash.
Dan Condon
Really fantastic service from the young team. Amazing coffee too. Sadly the food just didn't live up to the expectations. Not terrible, but not good enough to recommend. My toast didn't come out - honest mistake and usually I'd just ask for it, but given we'd waited 45 minutes for food I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. My suggestion would be to come here for a coffee if you're in the area and maybe try the cakes or sandwiches - they looked good.
Kingston Neo
Located in a really beautiful building this cafe is definitely a new favourite for me. The food is superb, the service is speedy & the coffee is great. Loved it!

Finally we got in! I think it was first week I tried to get in was 40-50 mins waiting.
Now it calmed a bit, still people keep coming in.
It is very cute this old Queensland house has transformed so well from aquarium.
Staff were welcomed in entrance, you can sit where ever you like and order at the counter.
My partner and I had skinny latte, I had vegetable with haloumi cheese in a bowl, he had mincy on sourdough. Everything was great!
We will be back again.
Tara Denton
Popped in here for breakfast on the way to work. Menu is great not too expensive. Coffee really good. I had the breakfast special, spicy beans and my partner the breakfast sliders. Everything about the place is great. Even has a little corner for kids to colour in and play. Highly recommended anyone to go there and will be back again soon.
