Review Sage On Ann - Brisbane

The avocado toast with tomato, basil and feta was great. Side of haloumi was well cooked. A really nice breakfast. The serving size was a bit small, that’s the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars.

Turkish eggs done perfectly. Friendly staffs and clean environment. Pleasant experience.

These guys are amazing! Such great good 🥰 their Peking duck on Turkish is THE best. Any of their sandwiches are just amazing though. Can’t wait to try more from the menu. 👌🏾

Great ambiance, the best coffee and most importantly - excellent lovely staffs! Grabing coffee here brightens up your day especially upon seeing their arranged flowers/herbs.

Finally decided to give this place a go as it's always so busy l wanted to know what the fuss was. Well l wasn't disappointed. They have excellent customer service. And their coffee is amazing. Strong bold flavour and hot coffee. I also ordered their avo on toast. My only comment would be that the bread was too thick and they not consistent with their avos. One toast had alot and the other didn't. Plus no salt on their avos. Season guys. For their coffee l will be back.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
Good coffee. Waited for a while but you can tell they take pride in their coffees so they won't rushing through the peak morning rush. I don't mind waiting for good coffee and l wasn't disappointed. Good location so it does get busy with office workers but they were still polite and friendly.

Both my friend and I ordered the chicken, avocado, bacon sandwich on pane. Very nice. Service was fast and friendly. Would definitely recommend for a quick and easy CBD lunch.

We were at a 2 hour function yet with 20 minutes to go had only been served a deep fried olive, a small goats cheese tart and a cold scallop. Very disappointing and a shame for the hosts.

Nice buys cafe in the city!

-Wild mushroom with truffle oil:
very generous with the mushrooms, the truffle oil really enhanced the mushroom taste of the whole dish. But it did make everything a bit too oily.

-Turkish eggs dukkah and sweet potato stack on pane:
egg was poached and deep fried in a batter, had a special texture to it. But The outside of the sweet potato stack was bay burnt from overcooking. I don't understand why some restaurants still serve burnt food items when they're plating it.

-soy flat white on keepcup: bought a small keepcup from them and tried their coffee. Coffee was nice and smooth, and they have a good collection of keepcup.

They've shown a bit of effort in making simple decoration of the food, but the main thing that really bugged me was the burnt stack.
Been here for lunch a couple of times for lunch and tried their sandwiches. Do appreciate the effort to have more 'gourmet' style sandwiches, but the peking duck wasn't that great and not much quantity of it either.
Reasonably priced though, and beats the heck out of your average sandwich.

Today I had avocado, tomato, basil & feta on Turkish toast with a side of mushrooms. The serve of mushrooms was generous, and the whole meal was just delicious. My colleagues all had poached eggs as their "extra", and everyone's eggs were perfectly done - we are very fussy about our poached eggs! Coffees were also great.

Breakfast at Sage is consistently good, and the staff are friendly and efficient - the reasons we keep coming back for our Team Breakies.

Can only comment on the coffee I received here & all I can say for that is great. It was in a takeaway as I was in a hurry (just been to the Chinese consulate & we were parked probably illegally!!) Asked for strong & hot & that is exactly what I got, nice flavor & pleasant barista

Excellent Breakfast. My avocado and feta (with tomato and basil) on Turkish bread this morning was very good, as was the accompanying side dish of bacon. The café was quite busy, but service was swift and friendly. I enjoyed my coffee -a double flat white- as well. Pleasant surroundings too, outside on the deck. Will definitely be back.
Gerard (Spring Hill)

Sage on Ann - Brisbane, CBD. A sign in front of this cafe reads "the best coffee in Brisbane". This is a common occurence around the place though, with different wording often being used at other places (just a couple of doors down, a place says "best in the CBD"). However, Sage on Ann often has many patrons dining there so there must be something that they are doing right and it is so.

My mom told be about an old family friend - with daughters and grandchild - being in Brisbane and wondering about a good place for breakfast. After a fair bit of snooping around for a place that was close, well-received and served breakfast I decided upon Sage on Ann and booked a table for the following morning.

Amongst many eateries within the proxmity, Sage on Ann has a relaxing vibe utilising an eco-building structure and having some quite comfortable seats. It sort of makes for an inverted enclosure where you can just watch the world go by and see the people off to their jobs.
Many of the basics (e.g. cutlery, water etc) are up for self-reliance, which is useful in a number of ways. Once you are ready to order, it is up to the counter.

I decided to get something from here that would be hard to find elsewhere - their Turkish eggs. They poach their eggs then roll the poached eggs in dukka. This is served with a pumpkin rosti, avocado salsa and toasted Turkish bread.
Even if the sign said that the coffee was terrible, I would have still gotten a cup; but, because of the mentions of "Brisbane's best coffee" I knew I had to get a coffee to go with breakfast. In my typical trial-run mentality, it was a double-shot cappuccino.

The portions that they served are just the right size, they are not collosal thus daunting to eat it all but they are not too modest so they can be eaten with reasonable timing. The presentation is also very good.
When the Turkish eggs came out, they were a multi-coloured and vivd sight. They were also a diversely flavoured and fresh concoction.

The eggs - fresh and free-range - were poached to perfection with the yolk still runny. The dukka did not overtake the eggs and even combined with the other parts of the meal.
Unlike the familar potato paradigm, the pumpkin rosti was not overtly oil and lacking flavour. It was sweet, bright and flavourful; the avocado salsa on top was a perfect blend aesthetically and gastronomically. There was also hints of an amazing fruit chutney scattered throughout the rosti and salsa.
As for the Turkish bread, it was simply brilliant in simplicity. The chefs infused a generous amount of melted butter into the bread; this could have easily been eaten by itself.

The most important querry though, is this the best coffee in Brisbane? Well, I have had a lot of coffee in Brisbane over the past few years so I cannot say it is an absolute ranking of the best. However, the coffee is easily some of the most sublime and realised espresso in this town.
They take their time. It is no place for a rushed drink and patiences will await results that have to be tasted. The perfectionist style results in a coffee that is dark in flavour, smooth in texture and fantastically hot. It is well worth coming here for only a coffee (though the coffee will look rather lonely).
I went back for seconds (on a shout of another person at the table), but had the mellocino instead. The results impressed me yet again, two for two!

Sage on Ann is not in the least bit overhyped. Their fare is reasonably good standard and will not cost an insane amount. Service is really friendly and laid back adding more to the inviting vibe. In the middle of possibly the busiest part of the Central Business District - at least traffic wise - is an oddly calm cafe that will be well worth revisiting.

Nice place. I went here with a friend for lunch in August 2012, and had the Pork with papaya salad. It was okay. There were two cubes of pork on my plate, the skin on one was a little burnt and the other was a little underdone.. The papaya salad was nice but hard to finish. You can only eat so much papaya and mint, you know? Needed a little more cherry tomatoes to break it up. My friend had the goat cheese pie. Delicious!!! I wish I had chosen that. I love goat's cheese and it really was amazing. Loved it. I have added a picture of both dishes :) Would return.

Sage on Ann definitely doesn't live up to its claim of "Brisbane's best coffee"....slow service, coffee granules left at the bottom of the cup and little presentation. Shame, as the shop itself is quite nice to sit in.

Relaxed lunch place. There are several cafes on Ann st and I tried Sage on Ann though my girl friend said their coffee was ok. As she said, their food was quite good. My girl friend was impressed by pork belly and green papaya salad. My pork belly sandwich tasted extremely good too. Coffee was unexpectedly good and wish it could be a bit warmer as it was very cold outside. Their services are friendly and efficient!

Top spot! -- These guys know coffee. Passion for product and service is evident from the moment I walk in (5 visits now). No matter how busy it is, they always give a nod and a smile when i walk in. and wait for my turn. None of this "too easy mate" malarkey that is so common. You feel like you're talking to a real person who cares that you have a great experience.

They ask how the coffee is (it's brilliant) as if they really are interested in your opinion. And the prices / value are very good, especially considering city centre rents.

Top spot. Handy to the station, right on busy Ann Street, yet still with a bit of "oasis of calm" ambience.

Highly recommended.

Great modern cafe. I've had coffee here before and it was always made well, so today I decided to try one of their sandwiches. Had the peking duck sandwich with chilli plum sauce, cos and mayo and it was absolutely delicious! For $8.90 I wish it had been a little bigger, but definitely worth trying.

I just had lunch at Sage for the third time. I tried their site-made duck and leek pie. It was awesome. Really tasty, with just a hint of orange and herbs. It came with a little side of leaves and cherry tomatoes for less than $10. Amazing. Friendly and hip staff too.

Lovely cafe!. Tried their mushroom risotto today , the flavour is really strong and special. And their cuppuccino tasted very beautiful! Definately deserve to go again!

Very pleased to have found a casual cafe that serves delicious fresh food and great coffee in the city. Pretty good sweets made in-house. Will visit again quite happily.

Nice café with modern design. Tried the banana bread and a fresh juice. Delish.

the pork belly was masterfully cooked with soft juicy flesh, wonderfully rendered fat and most importantly of all, perfect crispy crackling on top. Make no mistake about this dish, it is rich and decadent and a little over the top, you really need the spicy papaya salad and the acidity from the tomato to cut through the fat of the pork belly.
Tammy
Their claim is that they offer the best coffee around Brisbane - and their lattes (3.5) are really thick and not at all acidic - but I can't vouch for it as the best. I personally like Sage on Ann because of their pork belly...Their roast pork belly with spicy green papaya salad (15.9) is my favorite (the best pork belly I've had in Brissy so far - and I've had quite a few), and the papaya salad tops it off.

The cafe has a very nice ambience inside. Very quiet so you could actually talk to your lunch buddy without being drowned over by music or other patrons. The verandah is also very nice, however, I did find it a little bit dusty because of all the construction works that's going on in the area at the moment.

ervice for food was slow – it was understandably busy, but the wait was bordering on frustrating. The counter staff also didn’t put in my coffee order, but were quick in bringing it out after we had realised this.

Overall, our first visit to Sage on Ann was not encouraging and I’m not sure I’d visit again.

It took me a while to write this post but here you go in the next couple lines I will share my Sandwich experiences during my stay in Brisbane. I loved the simplicity of the sandwich, and when well executed can be much more than two slices of bread and a filling. So while in Brisbane I did a little bit of research and went to try a good sample of the city’s options

Sage on Ann is another fairly new restaurant in Brisbane CBD. Business took Jetsetting Dad and I again to the city centre and we decided to try this new place after reading a couple of good reviews from the local papers and The Courier Mail . Just for a c
