Review Soi 9 Thai - Brisbane

Con Costi
The food was so aromatic, tasty, with a great range of spices. The service, advice, and attention to details in relation to our order from our waitress, Pulpit, was exceptional. Pulpit organised and was so efficient and seemed to be everywhere all the time taking care of all the patrons. Did I mention the food/ It was really yummy and delicious, definitely have found my new Thai restaurant.

We accidentally ending up at this restaurant. What a great place with lovely staff!! All dishes were so yummy only thing we were really disappointed, fried icecream. But still 5 stars.

Had the vegan green curry and vegan pad Thai. Both were really tasty. They have a $12 lunch special, good value I reckon.

A charming little place. I would definitely say that Soi 9 serves the best Thai food in Brisbane. It is a bit pricy but worth it. Portion size is decent. Would highly recommend the tom yum soup. Be a bit cautious about the spice level. Overall, loved the experience and would certainty return.

Adorable concept and décor which extended to the plateware and utensils; it made this Bangkok expatriate happy. Cheerful and eager to please staff. I ordered "chao kuay" (herbal jelly noodle drink), which was 100% the way it tastes in Bangkok, and perfect for cooling down in the summer heat. The pipis stir-fried with chilli and a hint of Thai basil were perfect as well - succulent, flavorful, and the spice level (we asked for mild) was right on. The stir-fried duck with basil is not like anything I have ever eaten in Bangkok (in 20 years) though - what is with the addition of bamboo shoots as well as carrot slices? (I added a photo of this dish which will clarify.) And I was sad to discover it was a bit hard to find Thai basil in it, which gives the dish its simple but distinctive flavor. It was medium spicy (we requested mild as well) but it was yummy enough that we didn't want them to remake it and I also know it can be difficult to gauge the stength of each chilli and it can vary a lot. The duck was plump and juicy though; overall it was yummy but not what I think "phad krapao" is usually like, and we were happy enough with it that we still would want to go back when time permits. The menu offers a wide range of Thai favorites and none (as far as I could tell) of the weird fake Thai dishes that I see in some other places, thank goodness. Crowded on a Saturday night, so if you are more than 2 people, would do best to reserve to get a table conveniently. Overall, a thumbs up.

Dined here last night. We ordered an entree and two mains. The food was very tasty, but I was incredibly ill afterwards. It was all I had eaten yesterday and my symptoms were classic food poisoning, and I've been weak and in bed all day today. I called them today and reported this.

Nice relaxing restaurant. Good service and tasty food at a fair price. Lunch special is good value.

A gem of a place, hidden in plain sight. We had the place to ourselves while nearby restaurants were full, and the food is inarguably better. This is not your standard Aussie Thai takeaway. Huge menu with lots of interesting choices... the flavours took us right back to Thailand!

Soi 9 Thai in west end is amazing. Love this place and will always continue to go back. Most of the time I get takeaway but I decided to eat in a few weeks ago. The meals are well priced and you get so much food. We got the pad Thai and it was delicious.

Highly recommend checking this place out!

Friendly staff with a hugeeeee range of authetic foods. Bit pricey but in my opinion it’s probably the most authentic thai restaurant ive been to in Brisbane. I recommend the Thai Milk tea with the green curry!

We had a terrible meal here. Two adults and two kids and the bill was $115. The food was ordinary to terrible. The tamarind chicken, usually a very delicate and healthy stir-fry was served battered and deep fried in the tradition of very bad fish and chips. Our curry, red duck, and vegetables were edible but only just. The entrees were typical and the 'high'light of the meal. The service was terse; we wondered the source of the anger and why it was being directed our way. We won't be back and caution others in choosing Soi 9.

My partner and I really love this place, the food is so delicious and fresh and the service is great. We have eaten in restaurant and also had takeaway. Either way this is a place we will always revisit

This place was great! Do not overlook the warning on the menu. The medium is really hot, even if you do love spicy food like I do. Definitely going to get mild next time.
Quite a few options on the menu and I’m definitely going to be back to try some more.
I got the vegetable Penang and curry puffs and it was all delicious.
Definitely recommend.

I enjoyed the atmosphere there very much. But food isn’t reaching my expectations. Which I do like is that the water cups are so pretty in traditional thai style, and wine glass are in good quality as well!

I always get my Sunday takeaway from this establishment. Their tofu side with peanut sauce is full of flavour and a decent serving. I'm a big fan of their cashew pad Thai which always fills me up.

Love the taste of Pai tai and Tai milk tea. Will come more often😘 they also serve meals for vegetarian and Vegan. If you like spicy food , must ask for their chopped chili . I ate the pai tai with chili , my body feel warm .

A nice little Thai spot in a busy little section of West End (I think there are 5-6 places in the same block). The green papaya salad was good but a little bit milder than I wanted (the waitress assured us the medium would be too spicy and for my dining companion it probably would have). The chicken pad Thai was good but still standard and I found the red curry to be watery and lacking flavor. I know many restaurants cater for a western palette in Brisbane and I wish they would follow Sydneys lead in this more often and not

Not the best Thai food I've ever had, but not the worst. Friendly, efficient service. Good stir fry. But again, not the best. There are other better restaurants in West End.

I love all things spicy... so I love Soi 9 Thai for that reason BUT it can get hectic and come back and bite your ass... if you know what I mean! If you don't want hot... don't order your curry in a hot OR medium spice...get mild. I'm a expert in hot foods being half Korean and all - trust me! I love the beef salad but I think it should be re named to " hot beef salad".
Vegetarian Currie puffs are delicious, highly recommend. Tried a soup and wasn't overly impressed, Although I have enjoyed the pad see ew, it had amazing flavour, I've been back a few times just for that dish.

Had dinner here the other night, curry puff entree was yum, pad see ew chicken was tasty but a bit too salty. Soft shell crab was good. Overall it was ok but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

First time encounter the name of this restaurant, I have the feeling of authenticity because they used the name "Soi 9" which means the 9th Lane in Thai. This feeling sounds silly but I rather give it a go. Had dinner to celebrate friend's birthday. Set-up is quite characteristic and there are all Thai waitress (even one could not speak quite well in English). Love their idea of daily special and ordered Pork Hock because I never see that in the menu of other Thai restaurants. Entrees of Satay Chicken and Coconut Prawns were a good kick-start and we were all surprised on the large portion of the PiPi when it was presented on the table. Soft Shell Crab was average. Whole Barramundi was a good tick while the hero should be the Tom Yum soup which we ordered the Hot Pot size (what a good idea!) I do agree they claim that the hotness of their dishes is stronger than average others, moreover, I do appreciate that they prefer to keep such hotness to locals so that we could experience what the Thai food should be (I ordered mild only...which was quite hot!). Before we left, we saw the next table (all Thai) having something special and we were told by the owner that it is a new dish called "Seafood Basket" and is very popular in Thai now. Certainly, I will go back for this interesting dish.....

One of my go-to restaurants when I need a dose of Asian food. One of the best Thai restaurants around and affordable too. Food has always been flavorsome. The Thai black coffee is best black and ask them to put less sugar as it can ber overtly sweet.

We had dinner here on Easter Monday...i mean is lucky that they are opening...but on the other hand u should also know about the standard wouldn't be comparable to the other normal business days. is my first time going there, but the friend who brought me there is a usual customer, and according to her, this time is a miss.......we ordered pad thai, coconut soup and a barramundi with paw paw salad.
the pad thai was a miss in a way that is too "chewy" but the sauce was perfect...
recommendation: don't try to go hot in here, try mild, and side order extra fresh chilli, otherwise you might want to order more coconut water to relieve the heat.

If you have been to Thailand and fall in love with street food there. You will love food in soi 9. Sometimes It might take time to wait for my ordered but worth to wait for it. The price is average to comparing with Thai restaurants in West End. I don't get if you think they don't provide real Thai taste. I originally from Thailand and When my mum comes to visited me here, she always asks me to take her to has spicy Thai food as usual Thais. Soi 9 is once of my mum favourite Thai restaurant in Brisbane. If you love to taste Tropical herbs the food that I would recommend you is Larb Pla barramundi (supposed to spicy)
Just have a try you may add new favourite restaurant in your list.

I highly recommend deep fried barramundi on top with Paw paw salad and prawn fried rice. It impressed my friend who has first experience for Thai food. Definitely we will go back!

Absolutely delicious Thai food. Very fresh and tasty. We had the whole Barramundi fish which was outstanding and a duck dish which we also loved. BYO too so that's a bonus. Genuine friendly service. Highly recommend.

Been here for friendly dinner with thai friend, she guaranteed me that was authentic thai food and I got satisfied. I had a curry coconut beef soup mild. Beware of mild because in this restaurant it's really hot. I'll be back

The food here is so delicious, we've been back many times since we first tried it. Best Thai I've had. Staff are also lovely, and prices are reasonable as well. Try the pork sticks, the whole barramundi with chilli paste, and the red duck curry (obviously).

----

I just wanted to do another final review, since in a couple of days I am moving to Melbourne and will no longer be able to enjoy this wonderful restaurant. Something I didn't mention in my previous review is that my boyfriend is thai. Recently his parents were visiting Australia and we brought them here a couple of times, and they absolutely loved it. We come here often, and I am going to miss it so much! The food is excellent, and the girls who work here are so lovely :) My boyfriend says it is the best Thai food he has eaten in Australia. We've tried so many of the dishes now and I can't fault any of them. Just go, you won't regret it ❤️

Always delicious and very authentic (my Thai wife says so). Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants around Brisbane. The reviewers below obviously don't know what authentic Thai food tastes like if they were disappointed.

Dined here the other night and I received the worst service ever; it's like customers do not exist in the waitresses eyes! Had to ask more than 3 times for plain tap water to be served and after signalling the waitress 5 times to get our orders filled, she finally comes over. The food was mediocre but stay away from the green thai curry - very watery and not authentic. The worst were the drinks - avoid at all costs! The coffee and milk tea were just run down packet milk tea - absolutely disgusting.

Will I be back? Will I recommend my friends and family? Most definitely not! Head to the other restaurants in West End!

Terrible. I ordered it online and they said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I get there after 30 minutes (to allow some leeway) and they hadnt even cooked the order. They promised me it would be 10 minutes while they quickly cooked 3 chicken dishes. Dishes did not taste authentic and to top it off all 4 people who ate this have now had food poisoning over night for 12 hours. Terrible food safety.

Disappointing Expensive. Went there tonight hungry and left disappointed with everything. For starters it took an hour literally to get our mains, they should have advised of the wait time and also made us aware of the 10% surcharge as we wouldn't have eaten there had we known, food was OK I don't get the reviews saying it's the best Thai food, maybe they should get out more thai food tastes the same everywhere only things like service and atmosphere can be different. Went throughout the kitchen to go to the toilet and saw all the dodgy things going on, overflowing ashtray at the back was a great look.

Worst pad thai I've ever had. I went here because they had a $10 lunch special for the chicken pad thai. I was served reasonably quickly but the food was disgusting. The pad thai was mushy and extremely sour (I didn't squeeze the lemon onto the noodles). I don't know how this place continues to serve what they call "pad thai".. I didn't end up finishing the dish and left still hungry but $10 poorer.

Disappointing. We decided to eat here as the restaurant we had chosen was closed on Mondays
As with all new Thai restaurants we order a chicken Pad Thai and a beef Massaman curry.
Our theory being that as these are basic Thai food they should be easy to cook and really good in any reasonable restaurant
The Massaman curry was very watery and even though the beef was tender it was completely tasteless
and mainly consisted of onions
The Chicken pad Thai was a little better but was bland and lacked any depth of flavour

The service was incredibly slow and over priced

All in all a very disappointing meal

This is the only authentic Thai food I have found so far in Brisbane. Delicious and great service. Highly recommended!

Medium is HOT and TASTY!. Definitely the best Thai experience I've had in a while!! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The Panang Curry was amazing! Except I didn't think the medium would be so hot! But it was still delicious. a must go to restaurant for any Thai food lover.

Best Thai in Brisbane! This restaurant is the real deal! It's unassuming, casual and welcoming - but the food packs a punch. The whole barramundi with three flavour sauce is spectacular. The staff will remove the bones at the table for you. It's great value & tastes as good as it looks. The grilled pork skewers are delicious! We have visited on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The menu is in English but there is also a menu board that's written in Thai and holds some truly unusual & authentic dishes. Save room for a dessert of giant homemade sago/tapioca pearls, the size of maltesers, served in warm sweetened coconut milk. Yum! They have $10 lunch specials that are great value too - authentic pad Thai ( served with chopsticks & lime wedge just like in Thailand), stir fries, Thai fried rice etc. The staff are lovely and more than willing to translate the Thai menu board for you. Don't forget to try the list of homemade drinks on offer, like the homemade Thai tea.

This place is wonderful. I have been back many times since they opened. The food is amazing, the staff are lovely and the place has a great atmosphere. The tamarind tofu is fab, and the som tum (if you can handle the heat) is the best I've ever had in Australia. This place is great!

Best Thai outside of Thailand...here in West End. We live up the street in Hill End and delivery on anything over $50 is free. The food is excellent quality with the dishes comprising a nice balance between healthy and flavourful. I don't like fried food normally because it gets too greasy and that's why the curry puffs are a must!

We had the Tom Yum, Tom Kah and Som Tum with sticky rice. Very authentic, delicious. Hot means hot like it should be. We had medium hot. The staff are lovely. New Fav.

Tried the "pan fried crispy pork" with "special BBQ sauce". I've learned that special BBQ sauce means plum sauce and pan fried meant soggy deep fried batter. The pineapple rice was so so a bit too wet. Mixed entree tiny serving. All in all it's worth a try if everything else is closed.
