After living in this building for over a year the combination of poor weather and being tired said just eat in for once. I generally ignore hotel food since it is usually overpriced and underwhelming.
Tonight's special was slow cooked pork ribs with salad and sweet potato fries ($34.50). I was pleasantly surprised by the ribs. The were cooked to perfection but slightly lacking in BBQ sauce. The salad also lacked sufficient dressing but that seems to be an Australian thing most places.
The service was attentive, pleasant, and not rushed . That was expected as the were almost as many staff as diners.
Overall 3.5. Why? Ribs need more than one serviette when you are getting fingers into the sauce. Ribs should also come with a place to put your bones and a finger bowl. The open dining room in the foyer is also a bit of a downer. I chose to eat outside under an umbrella at a bar table.
An all new menu with a great new team since November 2015 has seen the restaurant leap into the 2016 year with gusto. Breakfast from 6.30am to 10am of alacarte selections of Eggs Benedict, Bacon & Eggs, French Toast, Grinders Barista Coffee as well as a European Continental which includes ham, tomato, cheese, croissants, boiled eggs and the cereals and fruit.
Lunch is hopping with $12.50 selections including Fish Chips & Salad, Chicken Schnitzel Chips and salad with gravy, Vegetarian Stir Fry or the Riverside Beef Burger at $14.50 is amazing with the home made beef patties. Wednesday is $13.90 Schnitzel and Corona and lunch runs from 11am to 4.30pm.
Dinner is now fine dining with the best selection of local produce with mouth watering steaks from the Darling Downs and Kilcoy region. The Italian selection, the Queenslander Burgers or the four signature dishes including Chicken Neptune will make the selections fun.
Match in a great choice of wines from Australia's best regions and beer to suit every taste and you have a venue that you can be confident to bring your friends or business associates to.
Monty Time is from 3pm to 6pm daily and has half kilo Riverside Style Chicken Wings for $12.00 and $5 wines, beers on tap and spirits to choose from.
A modest unassuming venue with good old school food. We attended a reunion with a buffet meal attached - $30 for all you can eat roast chicken, pork, lamb and baked vegetables, followed by individual pavlovas with fresh whipped cream and fruit salad. The food of my childhood and totally enjoyable.
