Fantastic experience. The freshest sashimi that I have had. Everything at the sushi bar is made to order and with the ingredients of the highest quality. Da Shan also makes his own daily special rolls that are absolutely delicious, especially when adds the freshly made light tempura bits to the rolls!
I also had the best pork yakigyoza and chicken teriyaki I have had in my life. Spoke to the head chef, Da Shan, who informed me that the gyoza's are hand made at the restaurant and the teriyaki sauce is his own special recipe he learned during his time in Japan.
Glad I gave him the menu and let him order for me! Loved every dish and the service is just something that you cannot find in Brisbane!
The selection of sake is also fantastic and they serve sake hot. Not many places do
The food at Oyama is SENSATIONAL and Da Shan is a top bloke that you can not help but get along with. His charisma as a chef is second to none and his hospitality cannot be found anywhere else. Do not order for yourself!! Let Da Shan take the menus away and bring out his specialities one by one. I promise you will not be disappointed.
His signature Oyama Hand Rolls are absolutely out of this world!! Taking a bite into this dish is the best experience you will every have! The flavour explosion and texture of the dish is unlike any other hand roll I have ever had and beats hand rolls in Japan! That light and crisp freshly made tempura prawn and the generous serving of caviar on top sounds so simple but tastes so so good.
The sashimi is also equally exceptional. Nothing beats the quality of fresh seafood, not to mention that the variety given is wonderful. The tuna, kingfish, salmon, octopus and cuttlefish dipped in soy sauce with a touch of wasabi sounds is wonderful.
The beef and asparagus with the teriyaki sauce is wonderful as well. But let's not forget the Morten bay bug grilled at the teppanyaki bar and served with that decadent creamy mustard sauce.
At Oyama, you are expected to treat yourself well with what they have to offer, but keep in mind that you pay for the top notch quality here, where I for one are happy to do so have been for many years and will for many more years to come.
I came with a group of 10 people, celebrating one of my close friend's birthday and have to say that the teppanyaki experience at Oyama is amazing!!!
Not only are the chef's skills impressive, the food is mouth-watering.
We all opted for the Pine set menu, which comes with fresh sashimi, garlic prawns, eye fillet steak, scallops and lobster.
My friends and I were mind blown by just how fresh the sashimi was and the variety given. The Tasmanian salmon was superb and the tuna was just so fresh. The king fish and the scallop sashimi were a standout as well.
Next came the eye fillet steak, which was so so tender and paired fantastically well with the miso sauce. However, the best dish at the teppanyaki is the lobster cooked in their signature Japanese mustard sauce!!!
The egg throwing and the fried rice throwing was also very entertaining. Please be prepared to get messy. Nonetheless, the staff were very efficient in cleaning up the mess and providing us with warm hand towels!!
I will definitely be coming back and recommending Oyama to all!!!
The sashimi is the freshest I've had in Brisbane. The hand rolls are out of this world and the interaction from head chef, Da Shan is absolutely second to none. The cooked food, especially the crispy and light prawn tempura is DELICIOUS. Highly recommend coming to Oyama if you enjoy amazing food and service!
A wonderful venue for a family dinner. Loved the beef asparagus and hand rolls. Beautiful food was supported by extremely warm and friendly hospitality.

An excellent dine out spot for Japanese cuisine - really fresh ingredients for sashimi, juicy lobsters, fluffy tempura , extra crispy and flavoursome hand rolls. Can’t wait to be back again!
Our experience with Oyamas goes back over a decade. It’s the only place we celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries as it has the best sushi and sashimi in Brisbane. Mr Oyama is an eccentric but excellent host and we are always entertained when we are there. Make sure you get an Oyama roll (or three!)
Came here for my bf 's birthday dinner. This restaurant doesn't seems to be very busy but they serve pretty good food. We let the sushi chef decide the sashimi platter selection for us and all the sashimi came out very fresh and we really enjoyed the hand roll. The cooked food was good however i think the beef with asparagus was slightly overcook for my likings. The tempura and the my favourite agedashi tofu are all very authentic and nice.
Comfortable dining atmosphere. We had the Sakura Teppanyaki set. Food was served quickly, but a bit too quickly for our preferences as we felt that we had to rush through the courses. The teppanyaki chef was quite experienced and the food was good. There was a part where we had to catch a flying bowl of fried rice. I completely missed and the rice went straight to the floor. I wonder how many times the poor waitress has to clean up the fried rice on the floor every night. Overall, it was an interesting dining experience.
This is really really fresh and beautiful Japanese food prepared by a master chef. We ate at the sushi bar and hand rolls were quite something. The sashimi was fresh tasty and good variety. Next tempura and it was light batter in fresh oil. The garfish tempura was exquisite. We had the Moreton bay bugs in ginger and shallot again very well prepared but I think we mad a mistake with the sauce which overpowered the bug meat flavour. Their rice is beautiful fluffy and fresh. The green tea ice cream was delicious. We were kept entertained by the owner who is a delightful fellow as are the family waitstaff. Not a cheap sushi bar but a dining experience.
Beautiful restaurant, family run, big part of the community. We make sure to bring our family here every time they visit Brisbane. Authentic and delicious food, super friendly, we always love coming to Oyama! Would recommend the Sakura set and sit at the teppanyaki table, it's really dinner & a show
Absolutely flawless experience, superb meals, freshest produce & the service is stand out. It has been decades since I’ve dined out & felt this joyful over my experience. The cocktails are gorgeous & perfect and the atmosphere, second to none. Thank you for a great time for Father’s Day & a massive thank you to Chef x
I will be back!!
The food is really fresh and delicious. The sashimi is very good and was hand made by the chef. Really recommend to book the table at the sushi bar. I love this place! It’s a excellent place for dinner and have a cup of sake!
Just let Da Shun pick your menu and you won't be disappointed. Sitting at the Sushi bar and interacting with him was so much fun. All the hand rolls were made fresh, and the Moreton Bay Bug Hand roll 🤤. The sashimi was so fresh and good quality. We also had vegetables wrapped in wagyu beef which was 👌🏼
We will definitely go back
Eating here was such a great experience. The food was delicious but the sushi chef was so friendly and so much fun! I highly recommend coming here. The sushi and sashimi platters are fantastic but I also highly recommend ordering the unagi- I'd come back just for the eel!
Had a very good dining experience here despite being kicked off the Teppenyaki seats as a family of 9 didn't include the kids and booked 7 instead. We had a great conversation with the owner of the place while we ate. They did give us free drinks as compensation which was very nice. Despite that, we had a great time and would gladly come here again. The food was amazing and well worth the price. If you want a good authentic Teppanyaki or Japanese dining experience, go here.
