Review The Indian Kitchen - Brisbane

Les becher
Delicious Indian food! The place has a takeaway service, so the food is ready to serve (they also have tables in case you want to eat at the restaurant) The service is fast, the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly, they have excellent customer service, always very concerned They also have vegan options In my case I asked for the takeaway option and they were very generous in serving the food. Highly recommended!

If you’re looking for Indian comfort, look no further. 5* for the easy dine in or takeaway menu. Pricing is one of the reasons this place is always so busy, options are plentiful for meat lovers or vegetarians. Fresh Naan’s made to order & if you like to keep things interesting - try some of their pickles and relishes (behind the counter, lime pickle, mango chutney etc) OR a chilled lassi (mango, rose water and other flavour available) the family warmth here & acceptance makes it the perfect stop for anyone in Brisbane looking for a good feed!
Daryl “Dino”
Ordered a range of things, think that the curry here is quite good and cheap. Really worth it. The naan wasn’t too great though, a bit too floury and tough for me - thus if you are going here, do get the curry and rice deals because they are not only good but worth it as well!

Great place to dine nice food and great service. every time we in Brisbane we go to eat there. recommended
Lauren Hayley
Best value curry in Brisbane - great prices and big servings, plus very tasty, very fast (for curry alone, naan is cooked fresh so has a little wait) and open late. I would definitely recommend checking it out. We don't live in the city but this is our regular go-to and we will detour here on our way home after work or sports just to get this curry.

Wouldn't recommend. Have been there and been totally ignored by the owner and walked out. Saw her cleaning around the curries with what looked like a pretty dirty wash cloth and have also had problems doing deliveries with them. Have eaten their samosas before and I thought they were the best I have tried but went back for a second time and they were rock hard like they had been sitting there all day. Proceed with caution there is definitely better places in Brisbane.
Rebekah Walker
These guys have genuinely ruined my partner and I being able to get curry from anywhere else! There butter chicken and there garlic naans are the best value for money and they are delicious. The owners remember customers which is sweet
Ferlene Fabian
Probably the best Indian food in the West! Indian cuisine is second to my favourite food. I love their veggie korma and lamb korma, you got to have their cheese garlic naan! Priyanka is really helpful and remembers us whenever we visit and eat, love her service. Food is amazeballs.

Chicken Vindaloo was thumbs down. It was like plain red chilli paste with minimal spices on chicken. I don't think it is authentically cooked. This restaurant is more suited to westerners taste buds but not for hardcore Indians who prefer original cooking with proper spices.

I was not very sure of The Indian Kitchen before visiting it. But once i was here i felt so much at ease and peace. Rather i would say i was very calm on visiting it with my friend.
chicken wings and rasmalai both should be tried. Chicken wings nearby have 4-5 pieces and the presentation looks moire appealing with some green leaves on it.
Rasmalai was very soft and was close to what we actually get in India.

Probably the worst Indian restaurant i have ever been too. I am a vegetarian so keep that in mind while you read this short review. The dishes had no taste what so ever. But yeah its cheap.

I only recently went here for the first time and I can't believe I didn't go sooner. The food here is so cheap, great for a meal out when you're trying not to spend too much. I got rice and three curries for $8.00. Absolutely loved the garlic dahl here and also liked the lamb madras but it was listed as medium and I didn’t detect any spice. We also got a garlic naan which was made fresh in store and was quite enjoyable. It's not somewhere you would take people for a nice night out but definitely a place where you can get a good feed for under $10.00.
M & M
When you walk or drive past - you wouldn't expect the food to be as good as it is. Yes, M & I were judgmental of the initial appearance of the place but I really loved the food! The mango chicken was creamy and delicious, the naan bread was fresh and extremely delicious (it's hard to come across naan bread that isn't though). Rice is cooked perfectly and the little side dishes were yummy- oily but yummy.

Unfortunately, the lamb korma was a bit watery. Not as good as other Indian places we have eaten so that is why I've knocked my rating from a 4.0 to a 3.5.

Great prices... that's always great.
Laura Jane
We live in Kangaroo Point and still travel to get the cheapest Indian in the Brisbane Core. It's really cheap so doesn't look like much and they only accept cash, but the food is perfect for a quick, lazy dinner and tastes great. Would definitely recommend for a takeaway dinner night.

The food was great. The service was friendly and very prompt. The atmosphere was terrific with the Indian music and video clips. The prices were unbelievable!! We drive in from Sunnybank once a week to eat there and I would highly recommend the Indian Kitchen to anyone. Try the Lamb Korma!! Sam & Cathy Watson.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Ducked into The Indian Kitchen for a quick curry after my lunch plans fell through.

This was my third visit here. My first two trips here were polar opposites - the vegetarian curries on the first trip were really good (4), but the second visit was for Chicken Tikka Naan (2) and Samosas (2.5), neither of which hit the mark.

Today I went with Chicken Korma and Rice. The chicken was very tender and it was a generous serving for $8, but it was very wet and pretty bland - to be fair it was advertised as mild, but there is a difference between the level of spice and flavour in general. The fact that there was a small bone in my last bite of chicken didn't impact my rating.

Good price and you can be in and out in a matter of minutes, so I'm sure I'll return at some point.

Liam
Without exaggeration the best value food short of the supermarket.

$6 vege curry plate will fill you up with a great tasting meal.

Not the best Indian I've ever had, but close enough and the price speaks for itself.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Great place to come for a satisfying Indian meal. Its not authentic but it still tastes great. Its somewhat value for money. A lot of taxi drivers and backpackers do dine here and it does create that special atmosphere. They also have Indian music clips playing on TV which I enjoy watching while eating. I do hope they increase their serving sizes a little to accommodate the $2 increase in all meals. The butter chicken is amazing, perhaps the best in Brisbane. The garlic naan is also delightful. Don't be deterred by the lady serving the meals. It's true she has no personality and she won't smile at you. But the food definitely makes up for it.
Gemma Johnston
This is the best Indian food I have ever had. Travelled 40mins with a bunch of mates just so we could have some. So worth it. Great value for the portions and amazing taste with all the curries. The lady working was absolutely lovely. Definitely recommended.
Poached Egg
I love this place! Service is the best and they're always playing lovely Indian music. Huge portions for amazing value... I don't understand the comments saying it's expensive - this is the cheapest Indian place I've been to in Brisbane. Would definitely recommend this over any other fancy restaurant - you just get much more of an authentic taste and dining experience.
Marita Orseth Høydal
This is the best indian food in Brisbane!! Me and my friends eat there every Friday, and we are always greeted as family by the staff. We love Indian Kitchen!
Baby Beets
Expensive for what it is.
Curries were all sweet and the chicken curries all tasted the same.
Lady serving had no smile or personality - just slopped the food onto the plate.
Best (?) thing was the garlic naan at $2.50. Was just a plain naan with some half tasting garlic buttery stuff put on it but it was ok for the price.
Snooty
Good food, quick and easy option.

Line me up!. I remember the days when I'd rock up here before a night out and seeing the line up out the door and thinking, yep those people get it... Delicious Indian food at the right price. The line up is shorter these days but the food is still amazing. As usual the prices change with the times but I think they aren't greedy like many of the other places that have jacked up their prices. I'm earning more money now than when I had to come here to "eat out", so fair enough. I hope it NEVER CLOSES!
Anzuna
Worst place to eat. Cold food, worst customer service I've ever experience
HappyCamper
Yum. I always really enjoy my meals here, I've never been to India so I can't accurately say how authentic it is. But I've tried almost all of their curries by now at one time or another and have enjoyed them all. Naan's usually pretty good (plain, butter, and garlic) but have been lacking of late. Maybe it was just an off day? The mango lassi is an excellent accompaniment to the meal and eases the burn if you're not big on spice.
John
Cheap for a reason. In my opinion the food is quite tasteless and the butter chicken is too sweet. The garlic naan is the only thing worth getting
Joseph.byrne
Why West End is Awsome. Genuine Indian food,
Fresh, quick, cheap delicious.
Eaten there several times, never gone wrong always great naan and great curry.

If you like indian and you want it cheap this is the place.
Ooitatcheng
Stop giving patron to this non-Indian restaurant. Please do not come here unless you like sweet watery curries, mango lassi that tastes like plain lassi and Barfi(an Indian sweet) that tasted like milky sugary hell. It is the worst Indian food I've tasted ever. I am from Malaysia and have been in Australia for 2 years. Travelled all over Australia even to Tasmania and I have not tasted worse food than this. Please to the people giving good reviews, google what is Indian food before giving good reviews. Thank you.

The Indian kitchen has steadily gone down hill in the last couple of years. Bland food and rude staff. the serving ladies are completely rude to customers every time. Rolling eyes and rushing your order.
Lee7642
I went Indian kitchen 1of jan,i asked for chicken korma to her she gave me chicken tikka, after that she started argue with me (with nose pin) there was other girl she said me sorry sir i heard that,u right but in this service there should not be anything for argue,i think she need to learn how to talk with customer not fight,it really disappointing to me because i regularly come for my dinner.
Finodowd
Finian. The food was soo bland. I have never eaten an Indian with no flavour until this.
The Devourer Of Food
WhamBam. Thank you and come again Ma'am. Quick fast and cheap. Dammed tasty too.
Chris Pender
Never go here!. Food is bland. Food choice is limited and if you ask for a takeaway container if you haven't finished your meal, they charge you 50c per container. I have owned a takeaway in the past and these containers cost less than 5c each. Why try and slug your paying customers with an extortionate charge to take food away with them. When i complained about having to pay this charge i was rudely told to get out of the premises.

For the sake of 50c they have lost a customer for a life. Good work guys.

Amazing food!. Went there with my boyfriend the other day. Ordered the 2 vege + 1 meat rice with just $8! The taste was so amazing especially the dhal and korna chicken. It wasn't filling for me (maybe cause it was too tasty) so we ordered one serve of garlic and cheese naan after. The portion was bigger than I thought and it tasted really delicious. Highly recommending it to those who want a quick, affordable and delicious meal.
One thing that confused me was the $6 price difference between 2 vege + 1 meat and 2 meat + 1 vege. Perhaps they don't want customers to get all the meat and leave the vege unsold?

Well one bad thing is that the waitress was so rude. She seemed annoyed by whatever we said (even during we ordered). She mistakenly got the wrong sauce for me. When I pointed that out she stared at me with those bitchy eyes and looked SO mad. How could people like that get a job??
Would go there again but hope we don't have to see that waitress again!
Tabehoudai
Nowhere near as good as when the serious but kind ladies ran it. The food now is a poor imitation. Cheap but not cheerful.
JKL
Awful value and doesn't taste good! Paid $14 for 2 meat &1 veg curry. Thought this would mean at least a slighter larger portion but came in the standard takeaway box size. Talk about rip off! Curries were all sickly sweet and gluggy. Not authentic at all and didn't enjoy it.
Andrew Brannon
Cheap yes! But value, No!. Curry, rice and a freshly cooked Naan for $9.95?
The Naan was as good as any I have had, light, fluffy and tasty.
The Tika Masala was way over sweet and lacking in spices.
Overall not the worst $10 I have ever spent but I wont be rushing back
Charlie Rowe
Excellent value and friendly staff. A good spot for a cheap Indian meal both dine in and takeaway.

Dinner for 8$ mmmm

Bring back the old indian kitchen!. What has happened to indian kitchen everyone? It tastes like all the curries are now watered down and filled with crappy ingredients (yes chef we can taste the difference between a hunk of meat and a hunk of fat). please please pick up your standards and get back on track serving your hearty indian curries because we all really miss the old indian kitchen- full of flavour and value!
Sharmila
This is not Indian Food!. I cant understand why this place has got so many positive reviews.
I am an Indian, and visited this restaurant recently for lunch. The food was totally bland and tasteless.. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala (which was extremely sweet) and the veg Curry (which was just okay).
I will definitely not be going back again.

The Indian Kitchen - West End, Brisbane. The Indian Kitchen finds itself just in the middle of the trendy restaurant part of West End and in the close proximity of the residential area of the suburb. It is not hard to find per se, but is a lot less flashy then other restaurant counterparts in the area so it may not stand out as much. To get there, it is just a wander off the main street (not onto a side street, though) and if you are not in a finicky mood it is worthwhile.

To those familar with curry houses, it essentially is that. There are not elaborate designs around; it should be noted there are pictures of Hindu traditions around and a TV plays Bollywood music.

When you get in the curry house, the waiters are almost always immediately attentive. Great if you are not the indecisive kind; if you are to any extent you have the choices available to you right in the bain marees so it helps a bit further. When ordering, it is swift and efficient; extras - by which I mean naans - can be ordered and are freshly made and sent to your table at a later stage.

When I went here last, I got the two meats and one vegetarian curry option. Specifically, it was a chickpea & potato curry, chicken korma and lamb vindaloo witha side order of plain naan. The chickpea and potato curry was quite decent tasting - something that can easily go wrong in vegetarian curries. With a smooth creamy sauce, the korma was a good contrast to the biting spiciness of the vindaloo. Being a plain naan, it can be expected that while the naan had an appealing texture and slight buttery taste it was all up somewhat bland. In saying that it made well scooping up the curry sauce but I would not recommend eating it on its own.

Since the Indian Kitchen is a curry house, it has got to be said that "what you see is what you get". A very good option for the non-discriminating stomach and the good is wholesome and filling. It defintiely is not anything compared to an Indian restaurant, but suits itself for a meal when you are hungry. and have not got that much time. In that situation, returning to the Indian Kitchen will suit me well.
Bobby
Cheap and Cheerful. What's not to like about the Indian Kitchen besides the soup kitchen ambiance. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but when I am in the area, for my money it's not too bad!
Ashton
Hmm Cheap as chips. If you are looking for a cheap place for a curry in Brisbane then this is the restaurant for you. I liked their bread, it was better than other Indian Restaurants in Brisbane. Very reasonable price for the curries but they taste horrible. If you know Indian food then you will be disappointed, otherwise it's OK for newbies.

Lost its edge. This use to be our favourite Indian haunt, but I am not sure what has happened to Indian kitchen.

The food has lost its flavour - my lamb madras and dahl had not a hint of spice and hubby's lamb rogan josh was equally bland. The naan bread is smaller and , dry and hard.....looking around I saw 1/2 empty plates and naan.

I hope they get another chef and return to its glory. It's sad to see that their customers have also reduced as most evenings there is usually a line out the door.

Looking around for another good Indian restaurant now.
Natalie
The only people that I know who like it have very unadventurous taste buds. I've been twice and had various curries and sides. They are all bland and flavorless. Yes it's cheap, but it sucks.
Jesskaar
A good cheap eat.. Cheap, quick, tasty and open late. Not the greatest curry you'll ever come across, but if you do a cost-benefit analysis, it sure as hell is the best curry you'll ever get for under $10. Also, don't eat curry before a night of drinking - just saying.
Jacobk92
Great value curries!. Cheap, fast and delicious curries. While I have had better, I do enjoy these curries. What makes me return is their late opening hours, the great price and the fact that i don't have to wait for it to be made. Good customer service as well.
Brizzy Food Lover
Addicted to the curries. This place is my favourite Indian curry shop. Great flavour and hearty servings. Staff are friendly. Dont be put off if you see a line up outside this place, it is worth the wait!!!
I made the mistake of going to somewhere closer to home one night (just to save time) and was very disappointed with my decison. I will never make the same mistake twice. If you are a curry lover go here...end of story.

Another Wonderful cheap option in the heart of west end. A great place if u are keen for a quick bite out. Curries are full flavoured are definitely a great investment!
Ninad
Cheap, tasty and great service. Cheapest Indian in West End. Tasty curries in take away style - a choice of about 6 to 7 curries. Friendly staff and great service.
Karen
Yum yum yum. Super delicious & easily the fastest & cheapest Indian I've ever had (and I've had a bit). Relaxed atmosphere & always busy. My husband & I both have meat dishes & drinks & walk out satisfied & with change from $30. Looking forward to making it a traditional family favourite with my 3 sons.
Sam
Value for money. Rather than talk about the food, which is not bad for the price, I hope they change one thing. Their curries are always served too hot. So you dont taste the curry first, you tongue is burnt. That's the one thing they need to change. But for the price, amazing. Their selection of drinks are pretty good.
MASH is the best I've tasted as well as Cascade Ice Cream soda.
Manup
IK is great value for money and yummy Indian. Get in the line.

I love Indian food !!!. If you want something not expensive, delicious, fast and handy , you shouldn't miss this !!!

Weekly Staple. Tasty cheap curries, 1 plate will feed 2 people if your not starving!

Nom.nom.nom. This place is good. My girlfriend took me here for $26 (for both of us) and i couldnt even finish my meal. Simple indian at a great price, ENJOY!

I love IK!!! I eat there at least once a week, or my cravings get the best of me. Sooo cheap (easily feed myself and partner to breaking point for under $20) food is amazingly good. Def no frills but it's clean, fast and delicious. What the above reviewer said comparing it to the Seinfeld soup kitchen is so so true! I can't help but laugh whenever I go there now! You won't regret eating at this not so secret spot for locals :)
Simon
Spice on!!. Was reading some other reviews and stumbled across Indian Kitchen.....well have been in Melb for nearly 2 years and nothing comes close to this institution in West End. Have been here many times and introduced many friends to IK. This place would show Melbournians just how good Brisbane eating options can be. Cheap, tasty, always busy and great value for money. Can't wait to move home to Brisbane and return to IK for regular feed.
Kylie
Indian kitchen. This place is the best Indian in Brisbane. Hands down. Cheap, quick and delicious!!!
Dan
A west end institution. This place is like an indian version of seinfeld's soup kitchen. there are stern-but-kind indian ladies behind the counter dishing out deliciously cheap curries to an admiring crowd. it's worth the drive and a lot better than the chain-store curry places that have popped up around brisbane lately.
BulldogsFan76
Super Value!!!!. The line up out the door just about EVERY night should tell you all you need to know. This place is a great combination of tasty food, great value and quick friendly service. I've never had a curry from here that could even remotely be described as a bad meal, and I've had a lot of meals from here. Check out the prices on the menu. They aren't a mistake and they're good size serves. Particularly the naan for $1.50.
James Gleeson
Cheap and Fantastic. This little Indian jewel is a great place to get a quick no frills extremely tasty meal. All the dishes are great and the vegetarian options change nearly daily. For $7.00 you can get a plate with 3 different types of curries. Show me better value in Brisbane?

We’ve all been there. You might be saving for a wedding (Kirst), an overseas holiday (B and Kirst), or a new car…but regardless of what you’re saving for or how tight your budget is you still don’t want to sacrifice your social life. Enter the humble BYO restaurant – otherwise known as the socialising saviour! These are our favourite BYO joints around town, so grab a friend and a bottle of wine from home and pick your spot. Rhubarb Rhubarb , Wooloowin Fancy french cuisine and BYO can go together and Rhubarb Rhubarb is the perfect example of it! Confit duck and Creme Brûlée wish some BYO champagne make for the perfect celebratory dinner or date night…you can impress without blowing your budget…you can thank us later. Sings Asian Kitchen , Rosalie Sings is quite possibly Brisbane’s worst kept secret…and in our opinion one of its best takeaway and BYO Asian restaurant. They serve up a mixed menu of Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai Food so there is plenty for everyone. Our pick? Green Cocon

I do prefer their vegetable dishes over their meats. Whist the eggplant and the daahl are full of flavour, the meats tend to be on the sweet side - especially the butter chicken.
