We had a bit of time in between appointments and were already in Ashgrove so on a whim decided to stop by Gerbinos for a spot of morning tea.
Our order:
* Spinach mushroom Sicilian arancini, $6.50
* Pistachio cannoli, $5
* Iced coffee, $5.50
Yes that’s $6.50 for a single arancini, but believe you me that arancini was huge! I’ve actually never seen one in that size, so that was the impetus to try 😄 It was decent and a good sized option to keep me going until a later lunch.
Wifey enjoyed her choice of the cannoli. The pistachio was the most expensive of various flavour options available, with the others priced at $3.85.
There was a steady queue of customers buying their fill of handmade Italian bakery goods when we were there - always a good sign of the product quality.
Has a really great selection of baked goods, you almost feel like you are in Italy when you walk in.
They have cakes, pastries, breads, lots of Italian biscuits and little cakes as well as the famous cannolis. So much to choose from!
I love knowing and having a local italian pasticceria. So lucky! My husband isn't a fan of cakes or cup cakes and so l find it quite hard to find him a cake for his birthday but Gerbino's have come through for me for 2 yrs now. Who doesn't want a cannoli or croquembouche cake for their birthday.
That day my eyes were attracted to the dessert especially the different types of cannoli (chocolate, vanilla and ricotta). I chose the ricotta cannoli and I became a happy mommy. The pastry was flaky and crunchy and the filling was just delicious! Not overly sweet as well.
I really appreciate being able to order s cake in line right up to the day. Score it's needed.
Cakes choices are great although no Gluten free offered.
I ordered the Limoncello Torta for my husband on line COD in store.
The store looks tired and in need of a decor refresh and good clean.
They were busy and most importantly the cake was just so delicious.
Looked beautiful, sponge light and the Limoncello custard just so good.
Topped with toasted pistachio which gave it a lovely crunch.
The smallest sized cake served 10 generous dessert slices. No additional cream or ice cream needed.
We provided our own candles.
Excellent and well priced.
Being half Italian, good Cannolis just like my nonna makes are very hard to find, but this place gets pretty close. The chocolate one was my favourite by far. The filling was so smooth and the perfect amount of cacao encased in a freshly made fried pastry dipped in chocolate. The vanilla one was a bit too bland for me but that's because I'm used to eating a stronger tasting filling.
Located on a suburban street, these guys have been here baking for years. They have an assortment of breads and cakes. The pies are very good. Flaky tops, casing that is nicely baked without being stodgy, and tasty fillings with good amounts of actual meat chunks. The fillings also aren't over-seasoned. Steak and mushroom had slivers of mushrooms through it. Steak and pepper was nicely peppery, and was probably the tastier of the two. Good stuff.
Whatever the type of food, they do they do it well.
Cannoli is highly recommended - especially the ricotta filled one. All of the cannoli are chocolate coated inside. Not sure if this authentic but it's a winning move.
The cakes you can purchase whole are also good value compared to other places around the city.
Quit a rather nice cup of coffee yesterday from this place.
Nice Italian treats.
No service however but still quite nice compared to your typical bakery around the corner.
The best Italian pastries. Dont come for the service and prices and you're fine. Italians are abrubt that's just the way it is. If you want fluffy service go back to your Westfield lavazza cafe
