Review Hedge Espresso - Brisbane

Elizabeth Raju
Just had a lovely breakfast here. The corn and zucchini fritter tasted amazing. Definitely a must try. The portion is a bit small maybe because it tasted so good I wanted more. The Mocha could've had a little bit more chocolate in it (tasted more like a cappucino) but it didnt worry me too much. So I am still giving 5 stars.

Fantastic coffee. So good ! Food are superb as well. Absolutely 5-stars rating cafe. Love it. Corn fritter is definitely one of the best I have tasted in brisbane.

Nice little place with staff to match. Really happy with the espresso I had. Very interesting banana bread. Was surprised that it came with honey, but it was good nevertheless. Babyccino is basically just milk (no froth) which might not be appealing to some. It might be better to just buy your kid a milkshake if so

Great service, great food and a fantastic location. Two thumbs up

This is a little haven in the southern suburbs. Coffee is consistently great and the chef clearly knows what they’re doing (recommend the duck pancakes and the burger!). Staff are always friendly and up for a chat. This has become the local go-to for us.

Dropped by to collect a coffee for my mother in law, who works at the local christian college and loves this place. It's quiet, cosey and has a great looking (and tasty) menu, the milkshake I ordered myself was fantastic.

Have not been back to this local gem over one and a half year so checked it out this morning. Not sure if it has changed the management but certainly the food and beverage keep the consistent standard.
Ordered the flat white to go with a Rasberry muffin. Coffee was prepared with right strength to my palate and the muffin was good in terms of its soft texture.
I could not find fault at all; particularly the service is so sincere and proficient.
A full mark case is deserved this time.
Previous rating: Aug 2018 4/5; Aug 2015 3.5/5

Great place to enjoy a coffee with friends and family, or even with a book! The coffee was quite special and I love the environment! However, I think the kitchen ventilation needs to be improved.

Nice cafe in suburbs, inside and outside areas. Had two fully loaded breakfasts, with bacon replaced by avocado. Avocado and hash browns were really good. Soy cap good, Zymil cap average. Pretty quiet inside on Saturday morning. Bacon smell from kitchen. The ventilation system needs improvement.

What a lovely hidden gem. Great food, great service, friendly staff.
I had the Salmon Benedict with avocado, loved their own spin of this classic.
Hubby had the hedge fully loaded (which it was) he couldn't finish it all. Brilliant. Was worth the travel. Thank you

Service was friendly. Food came out in reasonable timing. Food is well presented and portioned for what they are charging. They have a cute alfresco area with black boards and colouring books for younger children to stay occupied. It was a relaxing atmosphere with good food. Coffee is not too bad either.

Finally managed a visit to Hedge, after having it bookmarked for quite some time now thanks to Imco! The place was very quiet so I wandered around taking in the rustic charm of the interior courtyard. Of course we had the pooch with us so sat outside on some stools. Ordered a flat white & inquired if the coffee was strong & he advised the double shot. Pleased he did because the coffee could have been a tad stronger for me even with the double shot. The coffee was beautifully presented & had all the rich delicate flavors & aromas I was expecting.

After seeing good reviews went for brunch with some girlfriends yesterday. We arrived at 9.30 and all the tables were taken so stood awkwardly in the entrance until we realized that no one was going to acknowledge us. My friend had her baby in a pram so decided to wait outside at an empty table that had no chairs at it just incase it was our only option and I waited at the counter. The girl behind the coffee machine looked at me and said 'Sorry' and then continued making coffee and I stood there awkwardly for a bit longer until finally a girl with a terribly torn and ratty apron came and told me to sit anywhere (even though it was full). Eventually we found a table, we weren't offered menus or water but eventually found 1 menu to share between the 3 of us and after a couple of minutes the torn apron came over and asked us if we still needed it as she wanted it for another table. We ordered at the counter and had to wait quite a while for anything to come out, although the large table next to us who arrived/ordered after us received their coffees while we waited. The saving grace was that the deluxe avocado on toast was delicious, although the poached egg was rock hard as were the poached eggs on my friend's plate, her 'Frappe' was also just a milkshake poured over ice (unless someone forgot to blend it?). The food was decent, but this place is understaffed and poorly run. It has so much potential, but I wont be rushing back.

Tried here as it was he only cafe that appeared to be open on Anzac Day. Beautiful decor ordered a chai latte which was good. It's not in a well known area -wouldn't drive past here usually but would come again if in the area.

Hedge Espresso has always been on the back of my mind 'Reminder: Go there, remember!'

Here I am today 🙌🏻 Arriving at 9:50am I realise there are 2 tables filled with early customers, food already finished and just sitting there enjoying their coffee. Making my way to the counter I grab their menu, not long after checking it out I decided on the Hedge Omelette (I think that's what it's called) with Ham&Cheese. Mocha Coffee on the side for this morning 🙃

The Coffee consisted a good amount of chocolate and caffeine, no complaints :) The Omelette came to the table hot, folded in half and was served with relish. I found the Omelette itself a little bland as there wasn't much flavours going on (bonus: if there were more fillings inside 🙌🏻) Other than that, it was nice and fluffy. A simple breakfast to start the day!!

Very polite and friendly staff 🙂

Thank you, Hedge Espresso.

Awesome food and coffee! Salmon on the hedge bennie is always fresh. Great customer service and a very awesome all round atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Consistently great. You can trust the quality of the coffee and the freshness of the food. The chorizo offered on any dish is the tastiest I can remember having. Your breakfast is in safe hands here.

As a vegetarian I ordered the lemon curd pancakes assuming that I would be able to eat them. I was however, disappointed that they had obviously been cooked on the same surface as bacon and had many small pieces cooked to the bottom of each. I understand that many cafés use a griddle to cook on, but the wait staffs suggestion for me to 'specify a vegetarian order' for a vegetarian meal was not an acceptable response. Had I been unable to eat it due to religious reasons I believe her response would have been much different.

Lovely spot with great decor. Very friendly staff.

The breakfast baguette is highly recommended! I don't drink coffee but my friend greatly enjoys them.

Our first Suburban Spotlight is Hedge Espresso tucked away in the leafy suburb of Salisbury. This little gem has been around for just over a year and it’s a shame it’s taken us so long to visit. The revitalised corner shop has so many nooks and crannies, you’re sure to find a great spot to enjoy the Hedge blend.

When they say local gems, this is probably one of them in Salisbury. The cold brew coffee is pretty much brewed close to perfection, with the coffee, milk and cup with ice served separately to let you mix the coffee and milk ratios to your taste. The food is pretty decent, though the serving size leaves much to be desired, depending on what you order (some dishes are pretty hearty for its price)

Hidden away in suburbia in a house converted into a cafe space, Hedge is the perfect place to catch up with family and friends. The service was friendly albeit a little slow (which is expected for a busy Saturday morning). It was quite warm with the sun shining in and unfortunately the air conditioner wasn't working so we had to move tables but the staff were very accommodating. We waited quite a while for our food and one of my poached eggs was a little overcooked but luckily the flavour was all there. There were a few hiccups but overall Hedge is a thriving cafe and I hope that it continues to grow. I will be returning soon to try the other items on the menu.

Hidden away in Salisbury Suburbia is this beautifully appointed little cafe called Hedge. It's clear to see the minute you walk in the owners take pride in what they do, with a very neat and functional decor. The food and coffee have consistently improved over time and if you're passing by its definitely stopping in for some refreshments.

I'm so happy this quaint little cafe is so close to me! I love the atmosphere! I just stumbled across it driving past and I turned around to check it out and sit for a while :)

Went in this morning for a coffee - I live locally and have driven past a few times but thought this was only a coffee bar. I was so wrong! They have a nice little menu, really comfortable and well spaced decor inside to sit comfortably and it was a much bigger space than I thought. The coffee I got was lovely, and I also bought a danish which was great too. Service was friendly, and even though there were a few people there at the time the barista brought my takeaway coffee out to me which I thought was nice (instead of just calling it out). I only waited maybe 5 minutes as well. I will definitely be coming back and can see this being a regular spot for me. Nice to have a cafe of this quality so close to home.

Hedge Espresso - Cooper's Plains, Brisbane. Using what was once a standard, old-style suburban house they have managed to make a well-thought out layout of the slightly small space that they have. Off to the side, using the former yard, is a good bit of al fresco dining with astroturf and a space for the children to play and run around in. There is also plenty of seating there, with benches and barstools looking out to the road; in fact, most of the seating available is yet another hodge-podge of a random, eclectic assortment - most of the furniture is, in fact, built by the cafe owner. He must be a really talented fellow, as they were all quite lovely to look at.. There are also some of the barstools out on the pavement, an old-style couch right at the back, a long table for a bigger family and standard, square tables in the main part of the cafe. With exception to right out on the road, everywhere is well-lit and shaded giving an open, safe and cosy feel - good tips for any aspiring coffee house.

Service is also very good, friendly and efficient. Really, it does what it needs to do and has a dedicated client base in which names are known. This is one where people are wished to come back. You will be greeted with smiles when you walk in the door.

The food they serve is fairly basic. While it would count as a breakfast place, it is essentially just one menu here with an assortment of sandwich-style items, and some sweets. Most of the drinks available are coffee, including their own Cold Brew (none were there at the time), which uses Bare Bones Espresso beans. For the kids, there are milkshakes on offer. It is focused again on providing quality as opposed to quantity.

Starting out, I got a double shot flat white in the regular cup. A bit of a clerical error, but I am not one to complain. It was good to have a break for a while from the usual order. Trying this, it was good to indicate how well crafted the coffee is. The foam crema was smooth and fluffy, with a great body of espresso which was well extracted. It was not burnt nor bitter, and tasted really pleasant. Though it gave the needed jolt of energy, the overall strength was not overbearing.

From the menu, I went with the most unusual of the selection: the lamb shank toastie. This had lamb shoulder that was slow cooked then pulled topped with parmesan cheese on sourdough ciabatta. On the side were a couple of additions - a pea mash and a tomato-apple chutney. This is as good as it sounds, and the serving was substantial. The lamb meat was tender, and brought out its taste beautifully. Sandwiching the whole lot initially, this cause the parmesan cheese to melt and infuse into the meat. Adding a balanced lot of tastes, the chutney added a sweetness and the peas added a more tart, zesty edge to it. This was one inventive, innovative dish done from simple, whole ingredients.

I tired a bit of my dining buddy's order, as usual - with swapping. He got a pear and raspberry bread. This was tell toasted, combining sweet and tart flavours together with the infusion of butter. As usual, it is hard to go wrong with a combination like this. Before heading off for the day, I decided to try another one of their coffees, this time reverting to the usual double shot cappuccino. Take everything that was said about the flat white, and that was the case. Fantastic flavour, good head of foam on top and a smooth texture made it another good drink. They have the knack for coffee at Hedge.

As much as it gets a bit hackneyed discussing "the local" among all the neighbourhoods and side streets, this time around it has an honest, organic feel to it. This is one that is worth a visit, and if foot traffic is substantial enough that might mean more business hours. Here's hoping to that, and plenty of luck.

A little suburban gem.. This is a great new Salisbury local cafe. I would totally disregard the previous review denigrating this place, as it is misleading and malicious. I shop at the nearest Aldi and dropped in this morning to sample the wares of Hedge Espresso, with my dining buddy, while on the way there. We loved our coffees and the food was fresh and delicious.
I am impressed with the renovations they have done here. I like the ambiance and the tasteful colour schemes throughout. The menu is limited, but we enjoyed our selections. The homemade apple and raspberry bread was moist, soft and flavoursome. The tour de force was the pulled pork toastie with mushy peas. Yum! My bud loves the Sprout Artisan sourdough they provide. We enjoyed our Cappucinos so much, that we ordered a Doppio and Espresso, to finish our meal.
Thank you for a very enjoyable experience and you will be seeing us once a week, when we venture to Aldi.
Food Lover
Terrible food, average coffee. Second time visit as a local. Ordered smoky bacon on sour dough. Dough burnt, hard as a rock plus a bit of bacon and egg with bbq sauce. Can't believe they sell this rubbish as food. Coffee was below average. I'm not looking for cheap brekky, I'll pay what ever if the food is great. But the food here is really a joke.

Great little cafe with such friendly service!

Everybody hold onto your hats…. I think [and this is a major announcement] but I think I have found my local! Defintion of ‘local’ A foodie’s dream to find a café in their local suburb instead of having to trek to café hotspots...This beautiful café, at only six weeks old, is a destination for Southside café-goers. Before I even order I am greeted by lovely staff [who actually look happy to be at work, which is no easy feat] and some kick ass decor...The coffee [which I have consumed multiple times since discovering them two days ago] is smooth, delicious and refreshing. I think I could quit eating and quite seriously drink nothing but their coffee on the daily...The menu covers a lot but doesn’t have a long list of options [they went for the quality over quantity approach, kudos]
