Have not been back over two and a half years and it should be the time to explore it again.
Arrived on last Monday night at 5:30pm and there has already a table being occupied.
Perused the menu and noticed the Har Guo has been taken out of the menu and there is an additional Aunt Lai CKT. We decided to settle with the signature CKT l, beef meat ball soup and a bowl of wonton soup.
CKT is still the hero with good Wok Qi but portion seems less than before. Wonton is average and not as good as the Zen Corner. We appreciate the beef balls are House-made; however, the texture is not the type that we like.

Uncle Lai’s is a neighbourhood eatery that a friend with a hankering for Malaysian food suggested we try one day. Located amidst a row of shops on a retail strip on Logan Road, it blends in with the others, and it would be easy to not notice it was there at all unless it was a specifically intended destination.

Authentic Malaysian Hawker Food
We dropped into this small restaurant for a casual Sunday night dinner after reading all the positive reviews online. We tried a couple of their signature dishes - CKT (char kway teow) and seafood curry laksa. Both were delicious and we also loved their lau sa bao (molten salted egg custard buns) which were amazing. The service was very friendly and you can BYO.
Nice little Malay restaurant. Food menu simple but nicely done. One of the most tasty Malay cuisine in town. Portion sizes not your typical Asian take away huge portion but taste is spot on. Limited seat but great in the way that it's away from the crowd and noises. Nasi Lemak, Randeng Beef both great options.
It was fairly crowded on a weekday night, and their store is fairly small. We found that the food tasted authentic, however the portions were a bit small despite the price. We had ordered the char kuey teow, nasi lemak, laksa and hor fun. All were very delicious, although the laksa tasted more like curry. Besides that, the nasi lemak rice was very fragrant, along with the belachan. Â
Staff was very friendly too, and waiting time could have been a little bit faster. Overall, considering price and portion size there are other better Malaysian restaurants out there. But for authenticity, their food is pretty good.
Wendy and I love this place and the couple who run it. Nothing is a bother to them the meals are very flavoursome and good sized and best of all freshly prepared. We have made this place our local and try to get there once or twice a week for a feed or takeaway.

I have been wanting to try Uncle Lai’s since reading reviews by Shorty and Ronnielui2003. So today is the day and as I walk in at 1pm I am greeted the happy Owner. Originally from Malaysia, this husband and wife team who have come from Auckland. As we discuss the menu I sense that the Chef is highly experienced. I place my lunch order and wait expectantly.
My Char Kueh Teow ($12.90), Fried Flat Rice Noodles, looks and smells delicious. Served straight from the smoking wok, the flat noodles are steaming hot. The ingredients are a fresh medium sized prawn, chicken fillet, fish cake slices, Chinese sausage slices, a scrambled egg, bean sprouts and a sprinkling of deep fried cubed pork lard. In Malaysia the Chef would add several cockles. This is as authentic as we can hope for in Brisbane. Had the serving been 15% larger with 2 prawns, the rating would have been a perfect 5!
The Har Gow ($6.90), Prawn Dumplings, arrive in a cloud of steam. Made in-house by the Chef they look perfect. The dumpling skin is a little too thick but it is chewy and the prawns are fresh. I rate this dish 4.0/5.0. The Siu Mai are also made in-house and I will try them next visit.
I really enjoy my two dishes and the overall score for my lunch is 4.5/5.0! This restaurant is well managed and is spotless. I will return to try more dishes on the menu. Thank you Uncle Lai!
We discovered this place by chance and have been back several times. Love the food and the friendly service. I’ve tried a few of the menu options but it’s hard to go past the chef’s specialty Char Kuey Teow. The flavours are very well balanced and serving size is great for the price. Highly recommended!
Food was delicious and full of flavour! Great portion at cheap prices. The only downside is that the restaurant is super small (only has 3-4 tables available) and you can get a table if you book in advance.
Heard about an authentic Malaysian street style food offerings from Uncle Lai's Mt Gravatt.Tried the Char Kuey Teow signature dish, do make sure if you take the spicy option, you can handle it, lol. Ordered Wan tan Hor which was an amazing comfort food too, I would highly recommend, very friendly service too. There is parking available at the back, just don't miss the "P" sign to turn in as I did. Enjoy!
We ordered the CKT and fried bee hoon. Absolutely delicious! Definitely reminded us of hawker food in Singapore/Malaysia.
Authentic malaysian char kuay teow - the best in town! Other menu like fried noodles and fried rice are also tasty :)
Went there when they opened at 5pm and they had run out of chicken for the laksa so we had to have the fish ball instead. Food was ok. We also had famous CKT and I found it quite oily. The chilli sauce was good though. Indoor and outdoor tables. Indoor is quite small and squishy. Order and pay at the counter. Seem to be very popular place.
One of the best CKT I've had. The pork lard is magical, but what's more magical is the family owned staff. Every visit is like an essence of being back at home in Malaysia. They even stock three layer Sarawak style milk tea (cans)! Highly recommend if you're after quick and easy Malaysian food and family friendly + GREAT GREAT service! See you all soon!
