Love the fitout - so fun!
Very sweet server :)
Five stars for the above.
Food was good - not my favourite Japanese in town.
We had the wagyu and it was rather chewy, good flavour to the sauce however.
Three stars for the food.
I went here for a big going away party for one of my work mates! Firstly, I hate the physical location of this place, its literally behind the Stones Corner Hotel/pub. Parking is a shit fight as it doesn't have its own car park and shares with Stones Corner. There is one small dark side street you can park on or you can park on Logan Road/bits of Old Cleveland road if you're lucky. However, the shop itself is lovely, with great anime decorations and some banging old school RnB tracks. On the downside, my photos are garbage since the place is a bit dark.
We got some sake to share between us, the Junmai Ginjo sake as well as the Sakura sake, which I cannot remember the name of. This one pictured was the better of the two since I hate floral flavours, this one was dangerously drinkable with a smooth finish.
I love this cute little sake dish with a bunny at the bottom!
We got this deep fried pork belly dish as an entree to share with a nice sticky soy glaze on top of the vegetables. I loved the crunchiness of the skin and the melting texture of the pork belly. A very rich entree but a good one!
The next blurry beast of a dish was the wagyu tataki with chimichurri sauce, I love the absolute shit outta chimichurri sauce! I love its herbaceous, zingy flavours and it really paired well with the fattiness of the wagyu beef, cutting through its decadence. Some of the girls I went with don't like eating rare meat so that just meant more for me!
We got these chicken karaage pieces too, not bad but nothing fancy.
We got this big grilled fish, pretty plain with no other accompaniments but well cooked, a really meaty fish.
This was my favourite fusion highlight, deep fried, cheese stuff pork fillet. Holy shit, give me that with a side of curry rice and I will go HAM! I love the oozy cheese, the crispy crumbed exterior and the juicy pork insides. It also came on a bed of shredded cabbage with some tiny pickles to pretend you were healthy.
We got two serves of curry rice with chicken/pork katsu. This wasn't anything special but a generous serve nevertheless!
The next two pictures are of its two set yakitori options. I didn't like any of the skewers that came out, they were all universally overcooked, oily and cold. Not sure what happened there as everything else had been super hot and came out promptly.
We got a sukiyaki hotpot to share that had a strong soy base flavour with lots of thinly sliced beef in there to pick at and eat.I definitely preferred the seafood hotpot that appeared at the other end, lots of crab, mussels and the udon style noodles were my pick of the bunch. Plus the soup base here had a lot more punch in it.
If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try! A Korean/Japanese izakaya style place, with some interesting fusion dishes, an excellent atmosphere and prompt service. With this being said, I fear that this place might not do all that well just due to its awful location and lack of visibility from the main strip.
A beautifully decorated hidden gem with great atmosphere!
I came here on a Saturday night with my sister and brother after eyeing out this place on instagram & we had such a enjoyable night! We ordered 2 types of hotpot which were served in little individual stoves and their wagyu steak. The steak was quite nice but the hotspots caught our attention and tasted amazing! Perfect for cold nights and the portions were really filling!
We also tried the skewer set B which included the bacon+mushroom, unagi, steak and chicken gizzard. I really loved the unagi skewer it was so juicy, tender and flavourful.
The staff were really kind and chilled. We walked around the restaurant admiring the decor and the staff let us play around with the slime. The subtle details in the lights, music and decor make such a perfect atmosphere to dine and drink here at night!
Overall it was such a wonderful experience dining at Doujo- the food was enjoyable, atmosphere was great and staff were superb. Will definitely visit again to try out more dishes and drinks
