Review Sichuan Bang Bang - Brisbane

Ethen Y
Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from but we actually enjoyed our dinner very much there. The customer service was great to start with, and the food was actually surprisingly pretty good. Although we did want to go across the shop to try some pizza :P (it's in the same restaurant - clever!)

Have loved the Chinese food on several visits. On our last visit we sampled the cocktails from the new bar and can absolutely recommend. We also experienced the pizza for the first time and it was very well done. Will definitely be back.

Place was empty the day we visited, and se were seated next to the waiters station, which offered no privacy for conversation due to constant interruptions by staff. The food is okay, but expected better for the price. Think I'll stick to China Town for my Chinese food options.

Not bad. Eggplant dish was nice but the double cooked pork belly was way too salty and the fish hot pot was lacking in fish and the fish not the freshest. Better places in Sunnybank but worth it if you want some aussiefied Sichuan food near the city centre.

In a word: terrible! Decided to try UberEATS and ordered food from this restaurant - bad decision. Was expensive and awful! The three dishes we ordered consisted of little actual food and large quantities of extremely salty sauce. Such a disappointment. Save your money everyone,

Sat was feed super quick then after a while we ordered more than waited 20mins and food was still not here. We think the “endless” part is a ploy..we ordered Edamame three times...still waiting for it to arrive. Food is great so I’ll give them that.

Yikes, ordered from here delivery... v. overpriced, dish was supposed to be spicy but it's medium at best (and I'm white), food is just an unappealing mess imho. Best part was the drink to wash away the 'taste'.

*ordered takeaway* Main dishes consist of more than a half garnish. For example Sichuan style panfried shredded crispy beef is genuinely 1/3rd dried chilli, 1/3rd peanuts and 1/3rd crispy beef (which was very floury and dry). Disregarding the fact that the beef was terrible and dry only ONE THIRD of the dish was actual food the other 2/3rds were fricken garnish. Fried rice is bland and rice was under cooked. Squid was just sitting in a pool of oil (seriously), black pepper chicken with capsicum and onion was EXTREMELY dry, once again very little actual meat with the dish, mostly pepper (not kidding). The chefs clearly have no regard for serving decent food. Place is extremely overpriced. Save your time, money and tastebuds give this place a miss.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
Went there for our anniversary with my 2 little kids for the all you can eat yum cha. Usually when they say all you can eat, there is usually a catch so l was a bit reluctant to go there for our anniversary but decided to risk it anyway and thank god we did. Turned out great. Service was lovely and polite. They kept bringing food out to us. Gave us nice table away from the crowd maybe because we had 2 little kids and the food was very nice. Didn't have any issues and walked out very very full so make sure you go there very hungry.

Took my wife and kids for the $40 all you can yum cha. After waiting awkwardly for 15 minutes before getting served we placed our order from the menu. After 10 minutes (drinks still hadn’t arrived) we were told we weren’t able to pick what we wanted and they would randomly serve us what they decided. We asked what the point of the menu was if we can’t pick anything anyways. They said bad luck they decide when and what they will serve us. A lot of the food on the menu can’t be eaten by us (chilli etc) so we advised it would<br/>Just be wasted and have to be thrown out. Bad luck they said. Advertising was false. Menu was pointless. Service was horrible. We ended up walking out. And we weren’t the only ones. STAY AWAY!

Having googled “Best Sichuan Food” in Brisbane and having this venue jump to the top of the list I did go there with fairly high expectations. <br/>We chose the Hainan Salt and Pepper squid as an entree to share. <br/>We were both impressed with the spice and flavours however the size if the dish for the price was disappointing. <br/>It’s squid guys...C’mon!<br/>For mains we chose my favourite Sichuan staple being the Kung Pao Chicken and the Mapu Tofu. <br/>The Tofu was tasty and silky however the King Pao was a disappointment. <br/>I ordered chicken however I received seafood. <br/>The waiter is human and it’s not the end of the world but the almost total lack of Sichuan Pepper or any heat is not acceptable in a restaurant that sells itself as Sichuan. <br/>I gave the feedback to the manager and the disappointing answer was that lots of our local customers order it so we make it to their taste. 👎<br/>Service was good, The food was ok overall but if you’re looking for authentic Sichuan as we were, this isn’t the place.

Walking into Sichuan Bang Bang we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. The menu for both food and drinks are fairly extensive, so the four of us choosing dishes took some time. We decided on a mix of appetisers and then two mains to share. Crispy eggplant chips and salt and pepper squid both well presented and great tastes. We also tried the pancakes, the Peking duck and the lamb "chop chop" dishes, both with hoisin, with the duck being more favoured. The only dish I did not rate to highly, was the Sichuan wok fried eggplant with mince pork in chilli sauce. But overall some really nice dishes, with good service and ok value for money.

Walked by this place the other day and thought it looked cozy. Ate there tonight with my wife. Food was excellent, if a little salty, however, the condiments (good quality rice wine vinegar in particular) balanced it out. Booked online 3 hours before arrival, Aware, cheery staff and excellent table service. Very happy with our evening. Will be back often.<br/><br/>

Food just wasn't great. Everything was just average but the prices were fairly high for this type of food.<br/>Service was good. Looked over at another table with pizza and had food envy. <br/>

Crispy Duck - thin and fried to high heaven so no taste. Dumplings - very small and oily. Beef noodles - tasteless. Eggplant was good. Spoke with manager who couldn't care less. He made no effort to help and didn't even apologize.

I have only been once but loved the food and I intend to return. Shame it's a tad cramped with the tables barely fitting the food - especially if you like to share. <br/>

The food is just amazing! One of my fav places to visit! The fried rice is a must try!! Godly. Service is pretty good, very friendly staff. The whole concept of two cuisines under one roof is quite good as well. Well done bang bang.

Very interested in the number of 1-2 star reviews made by people who have done only one review ever (cynical?)<br/><br/>Okay, I really like the food at this place.  It is quite cramped, but a nice level of vibe.  The choice is far from usual sweet & sour fare, my go-too is Kung Pow Chicken, but have also sampled across the menu.<br/><br/>I would recommend booking as we have been unable to get a seat in the past.  Some of the staff are a bit on the slack side (on Sunday night the waitress asked if we were ready to order before giving us our menus) but the Manager is one of the hardest working guys I've seen.<br/><br/>One of the view places I'm happy to take visitors to, as there's nothing I know of that's comparable.

A few weeks ago I had dinner there with some friends who have eaten there before and I enjoyed the meal and the service was ok but what really upset me is when the restaurant manager allows the staff to stack chairs onto tables at 9.15 pm whist people are still eating. It's not acceptable and it's about time people speak up about this. After spending$200 for dinner for 4 people I deserve to be treated with respect. This is not respectful. No where else in the world in restaurants do restaurants do this at that time of the night in fact most people in other countries go out to eat at the time of the night. Please be sure to not allow this to happen it's not good.

We ordered dinner from here this evening. Amongst our order was one hot and sour soup, which I was very excited to eat. On its arrival I was severely disappointed, it was congealed and inedible. How inedible you ask? I made a Zomato account so that I could leave this review, thats how inedible. The dried chillies and the black fungus were unpleasant to say the least. The fried rice was ok and the dumplings were average. Overall I must say we will not be returning customers, bye bye Bang Bang.

OK, this place is the business!!! Not only do they have amazing Chinese food, the Italian menu is also to die for. We've been a few times now & we're in love. The reason this place makes us so damn happy? There is normally a fairly healthy debate between my husband & I about where to eat. I love all Asian cuisines but he's more your pizza kinda guy. Now, we're both happy (you can order off either menu). Of course, having knocked off some of his pizza, I can also say they have the best pizza in Brisbane. This is our new favourite restaurant.

I would have given zero stars but no option to. Just a massive waste of time. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Pre-ordered for delivery 1.5 hours before opening and they confirmed order for 5.45. They called saying the order would be 30 mins late, that's OK I thought as for the extortionate prices they charge I was expecting the food to be tasty and hot. Unfortunately that was not meant to be. <br/><br/>We opened the bag and realised the food was stone cold. Tried a small amount of the rice and wish I hadn't. Looked at the container of 'chicken and sweet corn soup' we had ordered, it was colder than the rice and not even soup. Some weird, unappetising and oily chicken and sauce dish. <br/><br/>I called up to complain and they said they'd send another one out. I really didn't get excited at this prospect after seeing the previous effort and asked for a refund. They asked what was wrong, so I told them. I asked where the soup with corn was, they said 'oh the corn is puréed'. Then they proceeded to tell me that I didn't order soup, and then I said yes I did, to which they said 'oh yes you did'. I have not been in the actual restaurant (and really not planning to) but they seem to not have the whole delivery thing nailed at the moment. <br/><br/>Their one saving grace was coming back (after 40 mins and a few phone calls) to give us a refund. They didn't ask for the food back, I assume because they realise how terrible it was. Maybe if I put it outside the possums will eat it and move on somewhere else. <br/>

EPIC takeaway fail. Rude on the phone. Small serves. Late. Cold. Expensive - very little Bang Bang for your buck! The eggplant was oily. Which is weird cos the crispy beef was dry. Almost like beef jerky. Kung pao chicken was sweet as. Mostly inedible all round.<br/><br/>The final insult was that we were both very crook afterwards.<br/><br/>I see there's been another review along these lines. Maybe don't offer takeaway if you can't do it well.<br/><br/>Crying shame cos we really wanted to like this and have been keen to dine in. Yeah, not anymore. Buh-bye. <br/>

Tonight I met a friend for dinner which I booked online. Our table was set and we were given water straight away with the wine and food menus. Green tea for my friend and house sparkling for me. Entrees were crispy eggplant with fried shallots and the hot and spicy soup with Veges for me. I then had the prawns with chilli and spices and the squid - amazing! My companion ordered the fish hotpot... Which she adored.., you can choose the level of heat in meals which is helpful.<br/>Another glass of bubbles went well to ease the heat of Chilli. Fried ice cream also took the burn of the meal away.<br/>We really enjoyed all the food and were very happy with the selections we made after asking our waiter for his picks... He knows his stuff. Great value, service, atmosphere and food. Well done 😃

Absolutely love this place and it's younger and older sibling at Kenmore and Paddington.<br/>Lived in China for many years and what a delight to find true flavours in Brisbane - at last authentic Chinese is here! Bring on the Sichuan pepper explosions!

How excited am I for this to have opened on the northside! Love the setting, great location and I really appreciate what their trying to achieve with the unique concept. <br/>Whilst I would happily eat dumplings and sip their tea all day, it wasn't that type of visit. We came as a group and ordered all different dishes. A few of us ordered Peking duck pancakes but some had more duck than others, tasty tho. The soft shell crab (my weakness!) was extremely battered, I could barely taste the crab. One of our guests received undercooked crispy duck batter.. And to top it all off their freezer broke and did not have deep fried ice cream :(<br/>The winning dishes of the night were the dumplings and kungpao chicken.. Followed by the "chewy and fatty" ribs. <br/>It was overall pretty lovely - being newly opened, SBB clearly just need a bit of tweaking. I will definitely come back! Thanks Guys :)

Provided amazing food and service, we will definitely be back. They made an amazing effort to accommodate us when we were very late for our reservation.

I went here last Monday specifically for the Lamb Chop Chop $10 Special but unfortunately I was not that impressed. I had the Lamb Chop Chop and Salt and Pepper Squid and it was really just O.K. The real reason for the low rating was the service and restaurant presentation. Staff milled in front of my table which is really off putting with a table for one, plus the little black bugs flying around me are just not acceptable. Sorry, but please let me know if you fix the pest problem, then I may consider coming back.

We got take away back in early July. The order was taken over the phone incorrectly. The food was expensive, the portions tiny and the lamb ribs were virtually inedible. Very disappointing experience.

Sichuan Bang Bang Paddington is a great addition to the Paddington dining scene. The quality of the food and service is excellent with our second visit (in as many weeks) with host Ian being top notch;  he was very accommodating and made our dining experience extra special with his suggestions. We enjoyed a variety of great dishes and excellent service and can't recommend this establishment highly enough.

Arrived at 8.30pm on a Friday night and the place was full. Noisy and busy but our table of 4 received great service. The food was delicious with all of us sharing 4 appetisers and 4 mains. Highly recommend Bang Bang in Paddo.

I'm not sure where to begin. I was really looking forward to having some delicious Yum Cha and had read some amazing reviews but sadly I was mistaken. From the first serve of gelatinous flavourless pork and prawn dumpling it progressively got worse. No flavour in any of the dishes, under cooked dumplings with raw pork mince, bland vegetable and over cooked squid. Such a shame.

Simply some of the best Chinese food I have ever had!  The broad range of delicious, fresh-tasting dishes was not what I had been expecting when my friends told me they would be taking me along to a Chinese restaurant - will definitely be visiting again in the near future.  Highly recommend the goats cheese salad and Peking duck.

Sichuan Bang Bang, what can I say... An amazing food experience! The Yumcha is a must! From the amazing friendly staff to the tasteful selection of food that is well presented and packs a punch of flavours anyone will love. This place is hands down the best in town! The only mistake you might make is going elsewhere...

Such a fun yum cha we had on the weekend. Light and refreshing and completely different from the usual! Great work Bang Bang! We'll be back!

Went to Yum Cha on Sunday- what a wicked experience - ... So elegant, fun and interesting and great food.<br/>Came out completely full - Super value, so much food- we were treated to Chef's servings of yum cha dish after dish.<br/>My mouth is still watering from the Shifu spiced fries! All the dumplings, Bao and wontons were juicy. My Girlfriend loved all the cold green salads and I couldn't resist wolfing down the simply fried rice which allowed for the black pepper beef to be munched down with great pleasure and taste... We'll be back! Oh and did I mention the $4 pots of peroni!!!! <br/>Simon

Bang On, Bang Bang<br/>Friends invited me to Yum Cha in Paddington last Saturday. I said where can you get Yum Cha worth its salt in Paddo? <br/>What a find! I have loved Sichuan Bang Bang in Kenmore for years and heard rumors they had opened a new restaurant. Now they offer what I can only describe as a brunchastic delight. If you love Yum Cha this is for you. <br/>I'll be back again and again. <br/>

So sad our experience was so not what we expected.<br/>Although the service was great, the food was just embarrassing. Serving hot chips out of a packet and trying to pass it off as Yum Cha is a joke. The shallot pancake was so oily it made us feel ill. The fried noodles were chewy and the just adding egg and sliced ham to rice then frying it is not that tasty.<br/><br/>After all of the hype, our expectations were high but unfortunately it was a total disaster.

Sichuan Bang Bang Paddington is the place place to go for Yum Cha!<br/><br/>Like a nice warm hug, Sichuan Bang Bang has you feeling warm and happy from the very beginning.<br/><br/>The condiments are simply the perfect start of this Sichuan fairytale. Black vinegar, roasted chilli oil and soy sauce are provided to enhance your Yum Cha experience.<br/><br/>It's not very often you eat beautifully fried bean curd wrapped delicate prawn and not have an oil slick left in your mouth. The same goes for the fried gyoza and fried dumplings. Perfectly fried and not oily.<br/><br/>The scallion pancake was crispy and flaky and was pure food for the soul, A smile deep within the belly that translated in pure unadulterated happiness. <br/><br/>Every single dish we had was amazing! From the prawn crackers to the Sui mai to the Singapore noodles and the peppered beef that had me internally singing "love me tender" as it dissolved in my mouth.<br/><br/>While it may not be everyone's cup of green tea, I have to say that Sichuan Bang Bang Paddington would have to be the best Yum Cha experience I have had. <br/><br/>With the amazingly fresh and loved food, the service of the beautiful staff, the open kitchen, the fact you can take your leftovers with you (dinner sorted- happy days) AND Split bill is more than ok with these guys, pure winning on all accounts. <br/>So,make a booking,Bring your appetites (so much food) and enjoy Sichuan Bang Bang Yum Cha at Paddington. <br/><br/>Yum Cha was $32.00 per person also plus drinks so very very reasonable indeed! <br/><br/>Xie xie Sichuan Bang Bang Xie Xie!!!<br/><br/><br/>****June 26th****<br/><br/>The yum cha format has changed, to a much better and still amazing format. Smaller menu with a great variety of dishes and what we had was as amazing as our first time...if not better! <br/><br/>The chilli salt squid -tender and crispy with loads of flavour <br/>The soup dumplings-heavenly..that broth!!<br/>The Sui mai -yuuuum<br/>The Singapore noodles-best I have ever had!<br/>And the tofu skin spring rolls-stop it! :D so flaming great.<br/><br/>We left feeling full and happy and not a thing was wasted. The fact you can order what you want as you go along is perfect and definately my taste in ordering too.<br/><br/>Great service and happy staff too!<br/><br/>Thankyou again! <br/>
