This cafe is an important part of my Sunday morning routine - always come here for my post-gym morning coffee and brekkie!
Absolutely no complaints about the coffee (from Merlo) - it is consistently strong, delicious, and decently priced :D
I’ve tried quite a few of their menu items but (as you can probably tell from the photos) the Smashed Avo is my absolute favourite, it is my go-to item on the menu. The smashed avo dish normally comes with poached eggs but I always ask for scrambled. However, when I went to the cafe a couple of weeks ago, I asked the young waitress for scrambled eggs and she said it was not possible to have scrambled eggs with the smashed avo. I told her I always get them scrambled (as you can see in my photos) and she just looked at me dumbfounded and said that it was impossible to have scrambled eggs. When I asked her why, she checked with the kitchen and told me that they have used up all the scrambled eggs and only poached eggs are available (???) From what she told me, it sounds like the eggs are not freshly prepared when you order them but are instead cooked in a big batch and kept warm until they run out… But also, how difficult is it to scramble up a couple of eggs when a customer asks? Considering I went there at 9am for breakfast on a Sunday morning, I find it hard to believe they ran out of eggs…
I’ve also had the French Toast here too but for the price you’re paying ($17), it is quite basic/disappointing. As you can see in my photo, it really was just thick-cut wonder bread with cheap vanilla ice cream and a few slices of apple and a strawberry and drizzled in copious amounts of syrup. Not worth $17. They really need to up their bread game and start using higher quality bread for French toast/sandwiches…etc.
They have indoor and outdoor seating. I prefer the indoor seating but the place would definitely benefit from a good scrub. The booth seating is old and tattered and there’s a lot of dust on the windows and corners. A fresh coat of paint and some newer furniture could really turn this place around.
Overall, I recommend ordering fresh items off the menu. I have had a few items from their cabinet (like sandwiches and croissants) and they were not fresh. It’s evident that they are not made in-house but are bought from else where.
Despite the scrambled egg incident, I would still go to this cafe. It’s a nice little coffee/brunch/brekkie spot with good portion sizes in general (although a bit on the pricier side). It can get quite busy around breakfast/brunch time and on weekends. They have a lot of food and drink options, and also cater to vegetarian/gluten free diets. Food and drink always comes out promptly, and the servers are generally helpful/nice (with a couple of exceptions).
3.5/5
amazing breakfast of all time definitely comeback , staff is so friendly and nice , food and coffee come on time even they are so busy .....
I was pretty underwhelmed when i first went into this cafe but left happy enough. I'd already had a coffee elsewhere so didn't try theirs. My friend had the eggs benny, it looked & tasted fab. My omelette was ok too, side of halloumi was small but well cooked. The ordering set up was confusing as it was initially table service for drinks but not for the meals!? My friend had to go back after leaving because she realised she didn't pay for the drinks.. Weird. Place could use a scrub but the food was good.
