Authentic Taiwanese Street food, reasonably priced, friendly service and tasty. Highly Recommend to all
Half Time Food (圓緣園; previously Half Time Tea Bar) is the first business to open in the new semi-covered outdoor foodcourt area in Market Square.
We visited the week it reopened in its new home after relocating 50m from the previous location beside Yuens. I'm not sure how much the menu has changed with the move and the smaller footprint, but there's still a decent range of items available, some cooked to order and the rest ready to eat/serve from a hot bar.
We ordered (clockwise from left of pic 1):
* sticky rice with mushroom and pork (香菇肉棕), $3.60
* century egg porridge (皮蛋廋肉粥), $6.50
* chicken sticky rice in lotus leaves (糯米鸡), $5
* fried noodle (炒面), $6.90
I wouldn't particularly recommend the sticky rice dumpling - it's on the cheap side compared to some other ones I've had recently but flavour wise wasn't a match. Probably didn't help that it wasn't served hot, which I prefer and would reheat if I was eating at home.
The porridge was warming and the rest of the dishes made for a decent brunch for 2+1 at $22. I'll be back for sure but will miss being able to sit down in an enclosed indoor space to enjoy my food.
Agreed with Joe’s comment on the influence of rumour about CV in Sunnybank area that makes a huge impact on the local business; particularly the restaurants. His recent visit at this renowned eatery reminds me the episode that I introduced my visitors from HK to have a brekkie here end of last year.
It was a very impressive experience for them because Thai place really serves traditional Taiwanese brekkie.
As from their comments, no matter the fried stick, soy milk, congee, bun or fine noodles and thick soup, they are very traditional and similar to what they had while they were traveling in Taiwan.
Thank you for this local gem. I feel proud of you.

We visit Market Square for a light lunch this week. Fear over the CV have kept shoppers and diners away. Plenty of carpark spaces and restaurants/cafes were either empty or 20% full.
On arrival we see two diners at this once popular restaurant. We place our order of Wonton Soup, Shallot & Egg Pancake and Fried Dumplings. Service here has always been minimal, mostly self serve but enjoy our simple meal.
Lovely traditional Taiwanese breakfast. Quick service but can be abrupt at times depends on who you get. For the food, I’d put up with the terrible service.
She wanted an Asian breakfast, so we found one and we didn't get congee 😂. Half Time Tea Bar, lets go.Left her in charge of the ordering, I may have to add learning a foreign language to my list of things to do this year 😋. What she came back with was a tray of some not so usual breakfast items (apart from the one) and the a cup of warm soy milk. Also, there is free warm tea.The first item was the not-so-beautiful-to-noodle-lift, Meatball Vermicelli Soup. Yeah, for what it lacks in elegance it makes up in flavor. Gelatinous, thick, but delicious. Next up was the shallot pancake, chive dumpling, beef roll, and bacon egg pancake (a very "white" dish but come on... so tasty lol). I really loved beef roll, reminded me a bit of a peking duck pancake, so much flavor and I could easily eat the whole plate 😂. Next time... we may go more traditional and go the congee or century egg, but it was a great time coming to Sunnybank not just for dessert / bubble tea lol.
Busy cheap eat-in restaurant in Market Square. I really enjoy a quick breakfast here. Unsweetened soy milk is great, but the egg pancakes are the star.
It’s worth a visit if you are in the area. The deep fried dough stocks are good, and the cheap tea eggs are a nice bonus to any meal.
Check it out!
My favourite place for Taiwanese style breakfast.
I've been here many times over the years and every time I go they never disappoint. Good variety to choose from, fast and efficient service, cheap wholesome food. What can I ask for more. Only problem is it's hard to choose which one to get because they all look so appetising!
My favourite on display is intestine vermicelli soup. If you don't mind intestine, this is golden. Just be aware this soup is somewhat quite addictive and you will be craving for this every now and then!
Ordered:
1. The thin noodle soup you see in the picture - this is a traditional Taiwanese breakfast dish, I'm grateful that they make it well here, hardly any restaurants in Australia does this dish.
2. The egg pancake wrap - great taste
3. The sticky rice wrap - amazingly good for what you can get in Australia
4. Soy milk - not too sweet so it's good and refreshing, goes well with the breakfast
Will I go back: yes if I can wake up early enough on the weekend as most good dishes run out by 11am
They changed their menu and the food doesn't taste as good as before. doesn't have 炸酱面 anymore which I eat almost fortnightly. Morning menu still avail.
Great for a party. The food is amazing and fresh. Dining inside or outside service is very good and friendly team members.
Great place, used to be a frequent visitor when I lived closer. One of my favourite spots in Sunnybank. Highly recommend their Prawn with pineapple sauce and also their Salt and Pepper whitebait. I wish they'd bring back the avocado smoothie (wasn't on the menu any more after my last visit). Delicious all the time but can get very busy.
One of the best restaurants for quite the fair distance. You always get good portion sizes and quality.
The only thing with one of my visits is the beverages came after we finished our meal. We even enquired a few times in between and they always replied with "it's being worked on".
When it arrived, it tasted very watered down - it was a milk tea.
Other than that, they have been fantastic.
The staff serving us was very helpful and obliging. They have face mask 😷 on. Thanks for keeping us safe. Food was good. This hot and sour soup has the right amount of sourness and heat. The combination crispy noodle has generous amounts of veggies and meat. We were very impressed. Will come back to try other dishes.
