Had the teh tarik and calamansi sorbet. IT IS REALLY GOOD. Teh tarik isn't as sweet as I thought (which I enjoy) and still has the taste of the tea.
The calamansi sorbet hits my cravings for south east asian flavours. It's sweet with some notes of sour. yum yum yum.

Lovely Asian inspired gelato in Brunswick. Have stopped in here a couple times now and always enjoy it. Most recently had the popcorn gelato and it was so delicious. The lady working there also said they bring out new flavours each month so can't wait to go back and try the next lot during summer!

A very unique experience with a range of flavours you won't see anywhere else in Melbourne. Like most gelato places, they let you sample before you buy...but that literally makes the choice so much harder!! Worth the trip!

Beku Gelato is an unassuming little shopfront on a quiet part of Lygon Street, so its easy to miss this little gem making some of the most interesting gelato in Melbourne.

The flavours are constantly changing but on the day we visited they were serving durian, a vegan chocolate, teh tarik, Turkish delight, buttery popcorn, pistachio, peanut butter, coconut sorbet with jackfruit bits and yuzu-blueberry sorbet.

I tried the two sorbets and loved how refreshing and flavoursome they were. This was also my first time trying jackfruit and it was super delicious - and provided a nice pop of texture. The yuzu-blueberry was very citrusy and tart which I also really enjoyed and complimented the coconut well.

My friend had the buttery popcorn and pistachio which were both super creamy and delicious. The popcorn was so cool as you got the smell of it as well as the taste, and the pistachio was a lovely rich nutty flavour.

Overall loved the gelato at Beku and would definitely return, I just wish they were closer to me!

The ice cream with a twist! Beku which means Frozen in Indonesian language serves up big flavours.

If you think you’ve tried it all before visiting Beku, you’ve got it wrong! They serve up big flavours such a Durian, coconut and jackfruit bits and these are just a few and the list gets going. The owner introduces new flavours from time to time and they have been really different.

We walked in thinking that the buttery popcorn is just an ordinary flavour, and it was quite the opposite really. The buttery popcorn flavour was really different and it's got the buttery taste and infused popcorn flavours and it has the different textures and we really liked it. The coconut and jackfruit bits is such a brilliant flavour as I dont think you can get this just about anywhere in Melbourne. It has the solid jackfruit bits in the gelato and the flavours compliments the coconut really well. This might just be the perfect treat for summer as its light and refreshing.

They do have the staple flavours that will always be available such as Durian, Teh Tarik (Pulled Milk Tea) and Chocolate. With the chocolate flavour, they have made it vegan and you get a rich and creamy flavour.

Be sure to visit to get a gelato with a twist and you will not be dissapointed.

We ordered the teh tarik and the buttery popcorn. Both had a nice flavour without being too sweet. We wanted to try the pistachio and houjicha which was unfortunately not available when we came to visit. Hopefully they will be available the next time we visit.

I get it, I get it, it’s still winter and maybe you are more in a ‘gimme all the the cosy food mood’ 🤔 But... what if I said that this Asian-inspired gelato bar has a Durian gelato flavour on the menu? Or Malaysian Teh-Tarik?! Tolak Angin? Halwa? Buttery Popcorn?! 🍿

Confused & curious of what half these names mean? Me too! And that’s why I decided to see what the fuss was all about!

The place is located in Brusnwick and quite popular amongst the locals – and with very good reason!

Like I said, not only are the flavours interesting and different, standing out from your usual options, but they are actually amazing in quality. Possibly in my top 5 when it comes to consistency and creaminess EVEN with the sorbets. Yes, they are also considerate enough to have non-dairy free vegan options that are incredible and I would even risk to say… quite unbelievable! They excel in terms of uniformity and richness in a way that you actually won’t even believe that they are sorbets. No, they are FAR FAR FAR from watery and I don’t even melt easily, just for you to understand how much effort and actually real ingredients they use here.

Serving size is definitely WAY more than approved and this is not just a normal scoop but a MASSIVE scoop indeed! It is important and tremendously appreciated that the cones they use are vegan, so you can have the option to your icecream on a cone or in a cup
The flavours also change quite frequently and when I visited the only allergen friendly options were chocolate and raspberry, so that is what I decided to have: chocolate and raspberry!

The chocolate is so enjoyable and rich, and the flavour is just right – it doesn’t taste like a more classic bitter ‘dark chocolate’ and I would even say that the taste is closer to milk chocolate! Or even a hazelnut chocolate! Seriously, it even seems that you are eating actual chunks of chocolate! The raspberry one is fresh and sweet and so creamy that it is impossible not to drool. Quite impossible indeed! A true fruit flavour, not with that ‘fake’ sweetness, but instead with the most insane smooth and velvety texture.

The only thing I wish they had would be more flavours but I will say that having daily 3 vegan perfectly achieved flavours (unfortunately one was already sold out and I didn’t get to try it!) is quite respectful and admirable, considering the high quality of the icecream and sorbets. And well, that only gives me a reason to visit again soon to try not only that missing vegan flavour but also potential new ones!

On a final note, like I said, not only are the flavours PRETTY cool, but actually the place itself matches with the level of coolness - literally 🙌 the origin of the name Beku comes from the Indonesian word for ‘frozen’ ❄️
And it may be cold, but it will sure warm your heart 😍 plus... it’s almost spring! And, come one, we all know it’s never too cold for icecream. No, my friend, it’s never too cold 😏

This place has the best flavours in town. So unique and constantly evolving. The popcorn flavour and the tea Tarek were my faves! Definitely be back again soon.

Gelato shop serving unique Asian and South East Asian flavours. We tested most of the flavours (because they all sound so good) and decided to go with the Black Glutinous Rice and houjicha. The BGR is creamy and have the rice chunks in it for added texture. The houjicha have deep strong roasted tea flavour
