Love the vast choice available & it was super filling for a reasonable price. They speak minimal English but enough to get what you want. Can choose from spicy or non-spicy soup base, with additional condiments (shallots, coriander, garlic, chilli, sesame sauce, soy sauce) that can be added at the end. Overall, delicious.
Pretty authentic Szechuan food! Ordered a good variety of dishes from beef brisket, to 2 different fish dishes, chicken, prawn, pork. Was a great feast! And of course it was HOT! So be careful when you come here, ready for some serious spiciness!
Great food, generous portions and decent presentation. We came here on a Sunday night and it was surprisingly still busy. My friends ordered the huge pot of fish soup which was only $23. We also had noodles, eggplant, steamed veges. I would say you get good value for your money and everything is fresh and delicious.
A delicious meal and would come back. The spicy cucumber and fried corn coated with salted eggs were the standout dishes, very tasty. Sadly the fish wasn’t fresh.
Wasn't expecting much from Chungking but we were pleasantly surprised. It was a random pick for dinner as we saw a short queue outside. Put our names down on the waitlist and were seated in about 15 mins. Nice interior with plenty of space between tables; if anything, I thought they could have fit more seating! Food was tasty and I really liked the barramundi that was braised in a slightly spicy black bean based sauce. By far, the most popular dish here seems to be the fish soup with pickled vegetables which seemed to be on every other table. Regretfully we didn't try it this time but it looked great. Service was efficient and I'd return.
The best under -rated dish in the menu is actually "deep fried corn with salted egg yolk"
Guys, you should try this!
You know, the sweetness from the corn and the saltiness from egg yolk was a really great combo.
Tried the jelly fish ( cold dish ) over ice bowl with cucumber and wood ear mushroom, with some vinegar dipping by sauce.
The rest of the dish were good too.
I've been here many times and have not ever been disappointing. It's very reasonable priced and tasted fricken amazing. Highly recommend the fish soup, pig trotters, pork hock, and clams.
Really enjoyed my visit to Chungking. The restaurant has a very good selection of Spicy Sichuan and Shanghai food. All dishes we ordered were very authentic and exceeds my expectation. We end up paying only $23 pp but the food is really $40+ pp quality @ quantity. This included two fish dishes and some alcohol. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Very tasty food, simple and comfortable setting. Very friendly stuff. Strongly recommend. The food tastes very typical Chongqing flavour which made me homesick. I would like to go there again and again and invite my friends to go there.
Menu has loads of traditional items like feet, necks, innards and gizzards.
We had the chefs recommended fish maw soup with cabbage. It's a huge serving (enough for 2-3) with that Szechuan pepper spice which if you like is quite good.
Also had the cabbage with pork crackling - definitely oily and very tasty.
Finally had the shallot pancake which was cut into little triangles and great for sharing.
Love the ambience of this place.
Approximately $40ish for what we had price is good for the quality. We will be back.
Delicious food here, big portions and price not too expensive! We ordered this fish in soup thing and didn't realise it was gonna be HUGE! Spicy dishes are actually really spicy, which I love! Definitely will come back :)
Environment 4/5
Other than the long queue for about 45 minutes, is all good, try to go in a group of 4 and max 5, or it could be quite difficult to get a table.
Service 5/5
Staff is quite helpful and cheerful.
Apple/ citron sake 3/5
Not the one that we want, can’t find grape or grapefruit. Tried these 2 but not a fan of it. Still prefer apple and citron sake.
Fish with pickle vegetable soup 5/5
Good portion, good amount of fish. One of the best I have ever tasted so far. Sufficient for 3-4 people.
Grill fish 5/5
I like they deep fried the fish before grilling. The fish is quite savoury and well cooked. We ordered mild spiciness, it goes well with rice. We added bean sprouts, luncheon meat, intestine and duck gizzard. The portion is enough for 3-4 people.
Will I come back again? 5/5
Yes definitely, but gotta come earlier before the dinner hour as the queue could be quite long.
Really good food. The serving sizes are extremely generous. I think we ordered four dishes and it was too much for the two of us hahah. Highly recommend the kung pao chicken - was slightly spicy (had some chillis in it), but really liked the sauce and the chicken was nice and soft. The veggies and nuts were also a nice addition to add taste and texture. The eggplant was also very very good (but also a bit spicy). We also got the sliced beef and tripe (I didn’t eat it but apparently it was very nice) and wagyu (?) skewers.
The restaurant itself was also very nice and well presented. Clean and kept to a high standard. Only thing was that it seemed like there weren’t enough staff, as a lot of the tables were waiting on being cleared.
Would recommend for a family feed or maybe a decent group of friends!
Helpful staff when ordering.
Food delivery was quick.
Modern menu with big servings.
We enjoyed all the dishes with good flavor.
Thanks for having us
Friends reunion.
A lovely night out. Good flavour dishes, authentic taste.
Recommended for group of friends and family.
A very busy restaurant.
Mostly great tasting dishes.
Recommend the fish fillet in homemade pickled green soup. Roasted squash with vegetables vermicelli.
The pagoda pork belly is average. Looks pretty, average taste. Won’t recommend it.
Do not get the Beef/Tripe slices in chilli (Fu Qi Fei Pian), has a sour tangy taste, not the usual chilli seasoning.
Have to say, overall really nice restaurant when it comes to the taste and portions of the food options. If you can overlook the slow service and bad decor, then it is a 5/5 place.
The good:
Majority of dishes served come in large portions and tastes pretty good. Nothing overpowering when it comes to spices of MSG. Although most dishes are spicy so be warned.
The bad:
Service was pretty slow. Ideally you will need to book a few days in advance or at least visit off peak as it is quite popular. The decoration of the place is pretty abysmal I must say. Whoever did the renovation should be ashamed of themselves.
Pro tip:
The colour menu with pictures do not contain all menu options. Refer to text only order form for full menu options.
Also be warned that the English text only menu is not always clear. The salted fish option is fried, however there is no mentioning of this.
