Visit Silo Bakery and Cafe for some of the best breads and pastries around. Located about ten mins drive from Canberra CBD in the trendy little area of Kingston, it’s worth the trip. Their Artisan bread and pastries are made in store and are pretty popular, so be sure to get there early. It’s a small spot with minimal decor and only a few tables to eat at, so it’s best to grab what you want as takeaway.

This bakery is located on Giles Street and a short walk away from our accommodation in Kingston. There was quite a queue to buy the baked goods but it moved quite quickly. I had looked online already to see what was available and there was quite a range to choose from. The service is friendly and efficient. There are tables and chairs both inside and out if you wish to consume your goods immediately especially if you wanted a coffee too.

Although I would’ve loved to try a savoury item I knew we were going out for breakfast later in the day so stuck to the sweet items. I chose a couple of the individual tarts. The Vanilla Brûlée had a lovely custard filling in a great pastry shell. Apple & Almond had slices of apple on top of an almond frangipane filling. Again the pastry was short and delicious. The Pear Galette has crisp pastry and nice glazed pear on top.

Worth a visit here but better to get here early so you don’t miss out on your favourites!

Even the cold pain au chocolat had impressively flaky pastry, while the sourdough baguette seemed heavy enough to fell a horse but was quite fluffy even the next day. I heard the coffee was also good but I won’t believe that in Canberra unless I try it myself.

Very popular cafe in Canberra
Went there on Saturday morning with friends
The food was great. They have special items on the menu which you don’t normally see at other cafes.
Their pastries and sourdough were popular as well.

Absolutely had to check it out as have heard great things. Lovely display of treats and baked goods. Sit down cooked meal of piperade omelette with chorizo and eggs Florentine weren’t anything to shout about but the raisin bread with labneh and the breads for both savoury meals were divine.

Great atmosphere at Silo, a busy hive of activity in warm surroundings, lovely for a winters afternoon. Really interesting menu, well presented and tasty. Don't go in expecting your normal listing of pies and quiches.Appreciated the acoustic treatment on the upper walls to keep the reverberation down so we could chat comfortably.

Had lovely Eggs Florentine at this bakery. The spinach was well seasoned without being too soggy. Service was efficient. They had a great selection of tarts and quiches. Tarts are rather generous portion sizes. Rating: Food: 8/10 Ambience: 5/10 - The place seems a little dark inside and gives the impression of being cramped. Doesn't appear to be friendly for large groups. I will still return to try out their tarts.

Really tasty food and good coffee. The staff were so helpful and friendly even though it was really busy. Bit of a wait for coffee but gives you more time to decide what treat you want.
