The place is both authentic and good value for money. Every time we visit Chef Rasa Sayang we have had a great meal.

I don't know why I have never actually stopped & eaten here despite walking pass it almost on a weekly basis. This time I was on a mission, after a recent Zom review of a Buk Kut Teh in Melbourne, I was inspired to find one in Sydney. In fact I couldn't even recall ever seeing it on a menu in Sydney. So we went to hunt one down. Went through many of the prominent Malaysian restaurant's website and came up empty handed. Finally we found one & it was close by! The decor is "rustic" at best, we got seated upstairs, there were flys hovering around the water station. The food though were great. The Buk Kut Teh did not disappoint, sweet broth, the pork ribs were soft & slipped off the bones. Plenty of other additions in the pot, tofu puff, mushrooms, cabbage. Served with fried doughs, who doesn't like fried doughs! The curry chee cheong fun was also a pleaser, for those who can stand the heat! The nasi lemak was ok, more of a filler.

After trying their few dishes for few times, I would rated their Mee goreng and Wa Tan hor are the best in Sydney!! We are the original malaysian and now this is our recently go-to place to fix the crave!! Price was ok if you don’t order their other single dish.. will definitely back again!!

So far I have eaten twice from here and will definitely be coming back!
Their laksa has the best balance of hearty with a good amount of heat.
Their Wat Tan Hor was also very enjoyable. The stir fried flat rice noodles had a lovely deep aroma from the wok which heightened the dish.
The Hainan chicken was quite good especially the ginger and shallot sauce as well as their chili. Their chicken oily rice is a must too.

Go to place for Malaysian. Friendly attentive service and pretty decent spread on the menu.
Typical go to are the Char Koay Teow, Pork tripe soup, fried radish cake, Wah Tan Hor, curry puff, pork dumpling (Bak Chang), curry Yong Tau Foo and Kolo Mee (dried egg noodle).

That’s a big list and I’m guilty of not trying other stuff and I tend to work my way thru that list each time I am back.

Only thing not so great- the price went up since the Reno some time back. But what you get a big decent portions with lots of extra; e.g. the CKT has 4-5 big prawns!

See you there every 4th weekend!

Big bowls of Yong tau Fu laksa and wat tan hor. At $15.90 each, they were great value. Packed full of ingredients in both and both tasty which is also important. Yong tau Fu had the expected stuffed tofu but also stuffed chilli, okra and bitter melon. Wat tan hor had pork, prawns, fish cake and greens.

Last time I was dine here, probably 3 years ago.
Shop having renovations, have a second floor now ( can’t remember actually from last visit 😁)

Anyway:

Vege:
‘4 Heavenly’ $17.90
Stir fried consist of ( few ) carrots, beans, okra and eggplant.
Super greasy but taste heavenly!

Protein:

Ginger Wine Chicken $ $22.90
Super tasty especially on cold winter night.
Consist of chicken wings, ginger, wood ear mushroom and Chinese cooking wine.
Chicken meat was falling of the bones. 👍

Beef Rendang $20.9
This dish was spicy and yummy.
Cooked Malaysian style.
The only criticism was need to braised longer, because still have resistant when you chew the meat!

Good dishes all around!

First time eating at this place, food was really good and well priced for such big serving! Ordered the wat tan hor and vegetarian fried rice. However, got told off rudely by the waitress for not eating the mushroom on my fried rice, saying "next time if you don't eat the mushroom let the kitchen know"?!
I didn't know the vegetarian fried rice would have mushroom if it is not stated on the menu? Weird experience.

Good Malaysian restaurant, located on a busy street in Chatswood.
Laksa is good, but quite spicy. Chicken wings were freshly fried, nice and crispy. The seating area is quite cramped, but they also have an upstairs section which has a bit more room.
The service is good and efficient, I had a problem with one of my items, and they were happy to replace without any fuss.

I had the Yong Tau Foo Laksa, big serving, delicious and the yong tau foo is stuffed to the brim. Great recommendation by a colleague. Also tried the curry puff which had half a boiled egg inside. Don't think I've had one like this before quite cool!

I always seem to find my way back to Chef Rasa when I get cravings for authentic Malaysian food. Looooove their wat dan hor - it's almost a guarantee I will order one once I'm there. Other dishes I would recommend ordering is their hainan chicken rice, tofu pot and preserve vegetable and pork belly ❤️

From all the times I've been to chef rasa, the only dish I would not recommend getting is the stuffed crab.

Such an awesome place, they have moved from Victoria Ave in Chatswood to Willoughby. This is take away only now so please keep that in mind. They offer a great variety of Indonesian and south east Asian food. You would want to eat it while its hot, there is a park across the road if you want to eat immediately

Great Malaysian restaurant. Decent pricing and large portions. They have a varity of dishes, and most dishes taste great, so highly recommend trying out different a couple of their signatures. The place is quite busy and crowded. Seats are not spacious and not that comfortable. They didn't turn on the aircon or fan when we visited and it was quite hot and stuffy.

The portions are huge! I'm a big eater and I struggled. Also their drinks come in round take away containers, so they're massive too! On the day we went noodle dishes were pretty popular and given their value proposition I can see why. Quality is not bad but I prefer some other Malaysian eateries. It's a place you want to go with a big to share with.

One of the authentic Malaysia restuarant in Chatswood. Not many tables and is always crowded. Foods are freshly served and taste are really good. Will definitely go back again.
