We called into La Maison Patisserie in Cheltenham shops on our way to drop in on family for afternoon tea. They had a good range of cakes, pies, tarts, slices, biscuits and pastries. All looked delicious so it was hard to choose. I am somewhat of a custard fiend so that helped shape our decision. We chose a chocolate eclair which, while it wasn't as elegant as I've seen before, was a perfect lite choux pastry. The mille feuille pastry was still crunchy and tasted fresh while the custards was full of vanilla flavour. The lemon tart had a pleasant lemon taste (you would hope it would) but lacked the "pucker worthy" rating I give to only a few curds out there. We finally agreed on the tri level mousse which was easier to cut up than I anticipated so perhaps a little more gelatinous than moussey. I would have purchased a lemon meringue had they not sold out... a popular item we were told.

La Maison also sold coffee and had pies and sausage rolls in a pie warmer or to take home cold for later. A great little find.

I’ve tried a couple of cakes now! The lemon Meringue cake was absolutely amazing!!!!!!!! Handmade too! Kevin, I think the owner, was friendly and very helpful. I would definitely recommend you trying this place!
