Seafood was very fresh! Battered items came out nice and light and not greasy. You can tell that care was taken into preparing the items. Staff are awesome and owners are super friendly too! Sucks that it’s really far away though.
I’m on holiday from New Zealand and have had two great meals from here really enjoyed the snapper it’s so good fresh and crunchy really good meal nice and light also the chicken burger was great too highly recommend this place.
This has been my go to place in Cleveland for takeaway fish and chips for sometime now. It may have it's faults but it runs rings around it's competitors in the area in my opinion.
So my standard order is crumbed cod, calamari, and beer battered chips with a tub of aioli. I have never been able to fault what I have received. The fish is beautiful and white and thick, not like some other places where it is tasteless and looks so thin like the fillet has been sliced in half! The beer battered chips are amazing and worth the bit extra. Overall I think the pricing for most items is standard and the dune in meal deals look to be of a good size from what I have seen. I am yet to try one though.
I have read on here several complaints about the staff. I personally haven't experienced anything negative but have also had no reason to date to return to them with an issue. I wouldn't say the service is great - it's just mediocre which sadly is what we can usually expect these days it would seem.
On the downside:
1) Last night I wanted to order a burger for each of my children but at $13.95 I found the price exorbitant. On the menu it came with chips which I didn't want. On asking I was told that the price would be the same with or without chips. WHY? I really can't understand why? It's not an order from their meal deals so why should I expect to pay the same without chips. Why can there or be some flexibility? I find this unreasonable and just plain greedy.
2) Parking. Samson's is located at Raby Bay Harbour within a dining precinct but it is also surrounded by apartments making competition for parking tough. It doesn't matter what time of the day you go there it is near impossible to get a park. At night - you've got buckleys of snaring a spot. Even the underground parking is full. It really is off putting when you want to grab a quick takeaway and you have to drive around for a park, or else park further afield and walk back.
