Super delicious homemade authentic laksa! Recommended by foodie friends. Did not disappoint. Very happy to support this local business and lovely staff.
Amazing authentic Malaysian cuisine with super friendly staff. Couldn’t ask more for the delicious laksa! I can taste that it is using real ingredients instead of premix.
It is a bit of drive from Brisbane city but it is worth the travel. Highly recommended the laksa and the tetarik drink.
I also ordered the pandas cake and other snacks. They are all very fresh and delicious. There are not much restaurants around the area, so you won’t miss it. There are lots of parking spaces in front of the café. Don’t bother ask for the menu, try their daily special!
It's not the most obvious place for it, but Bay Breeze Café Cleveland actually has some pretty decent Malaysian food. It's a fairly typical Western café in most respects, given a Malaysian boost with the owners/chefs bringing some flavours from home to the menu. I've had the venue bookmarked since hearing about it through a local Malaysian FB group, and went for a drive on a day off to check it out.
We ordered:
* assam (tamarind) barramundi with rice $14.90
* curry chicken with rice $12.90
* curry puff $3.50
* medium latte $4
There's a regular Malaysian food menu, plus rotating weekly specials. Wifey's first choice of chicken rendang was not available, so went with the second choice of chicken curry. It was just manageable for her low spice tolerance, and the portion got the better of her.
I chose the weekly special with assam fish, and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. It's a taste profile you won't easily find here, even amongst Malaysian restaurants, so best to get it as and when available.
The curry puff was a spur of the moment decision cos I saw some on display at the counter while ordering. It was pretty big, but didn't rise much above average for us.
We got chatting to Jenny (one of the owners), and found out that we have a common friend (small world!). Jenny gave us some complimentary acar (vegetable pickle) to accompany our mains, and then treated us to a sample of their Japanese cotton cake for dessert. The cotton cake was quite nice, and is one of a few cakes options available if you're looking for something on the sweeter side.
I don't come out this way very much, but next time I feel like going for a drive to the bayside area, I know where I'll be going for lunch!
